Toboe Wolf headed up to his dorm room with a few feelings about earlier. He was exhausted from high emotions and nervous about whether the confession, truth, and interview at all would air. They could just write him off as a terrified, and terrorized, Stockholm case and continue to slander Tsume.
He smelled something synthetic in the air; absentmindedly looking about as he passed through the hall, he spotted a plug-in in the living room wall outlet. Someone must have grown restless with the reek of the place. Go live with four men and not enough cleaning days. It seemed everyone was in class right now. He was about to shout "Hello" when the door opened behind him. He smiled seeing his friend enter. He removed his coat, tossed it towards the hook. It made contact but doesn't stay on. Gasper left it on the floor. It would either be hooked up later or ignored until the next need of use.
"Hey," Toboe greeted Gasper cheerily. "Good day in class?"
"Yeah, great." He replied dryly.
"Oookaaay," Toboe headed up to the bathroom. Once he was done with relieving himself, he walked out and entered the room he shared. "Are you all right?" He asked when seeing Gasper flop onto his bed, looking peeved.
"Dwayne left the group. He told me he's got bigger dreams than being somebody's backup dancer." He crossed his arms. "He's gonna focus on his studies and become a businessman like his father."
"Well... It's not a big deal, I mean, it stinks that your friend is bailing; but, he's got his own passions. You are a talented group.. you'll find someone else with the same passion as you to take his place."
He frowned further. "Maybe.. I guess."
Toboe smiled kindly.
"How 'bout you? Are you ok?"
"Ok?" His brow furrowed. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"It was on the news for a bit; you went to Tsume's place?" His eyes followed his roommate around the room. "What are you looking for?"
"The remote."
Gasper got up from his bed and turned on the television. He then laughed when Toboe rolled his eyes. "If you could have done that then why didn't you?"
"Can the smart aleck butler go to Channel 6?" He asked his friend. He was glad Gasper was complying but he still searched for the remote. He found it too, under the mini dresser. "So, what? Oh, right, um, nothing happened."
"Something happened. Tsume took you into his home. Then what?"
"He protected me from the mob," he sat on his bed. "We fought. Fought some more, then I left when the creeps cleared out."
He doesn't know why he felt the need to lie. He just did. It's precious his getting back together with Tsume. He doesn't want negative vibes harshing on that. And honestly... Tsume might not even really want to get back with him. It could have been a cave of weakness on both of their part. A comfortable slide back. Then.. Then things could be awkward. They'll always have this odd blip between them. And all things considered with the connections in their past, the very root of their relationship. Tsume could decide to just let him go. He may still love him, but Tsume won't want to be with him.
Gasper nodded. "Good. It's wrong of him to take advantage of the situation."
"Take advantage?"
"Yeah. I mean, you broke up with him." He picks at the threading in the hole at the knee of his jeans. "When better than to swoop in when you're in need to have you get back together."
"That's not gonna happen. And it wasn't planned. He didn't know I'd go over there." He watched the soaps for a bit. The news would be on in a couple hours. He has a class to occupy his churning stomach for 45 minutes in the twenty minutes. For now, he's just waiting for a commercial that'll provide information that his interview would air. "What?" He asked when he noticed he was being looked at.
"I.. Nothing. Just... forget it."
"No. It's something. What?"
Gasper let out a breath. "Would you.. You can say no, but, would you fill in for Dwayne? I can teach you the choreography. It's easy." He placed his hands together in prayer for a positive response.
Toboe blinked. He wondered if it would have been an easy reply, if not for the previous dance lesson. He can still feel Gasper's close proximity. Haunting him at random times when they're alone together. It's probably because he hadn't asked him for an explanation. He felt uncomfortable, and a bit ashamed for letting the odd moment slide. But, he also would have felt like a creep for making a big deal out of something that for pro dancers is quite common. He's seen paid professionals doing some pretty scandalous stuff on the dance floor. To his friend grinding and body-rolls were just blinking.
He felt his ears heat, and his mouth dry. He licked his bottom lip fruitlessly.
"Nevermind. I can find someone."
"No. It's... is their gonna be like acro or a lot of touching in the routine?"
"Touching?" Gasper snickered. "Since I'm usually the one making it, I'll leave out acrobatics and touching, unless one of the other guys gets a solo."
That was relieving. "Ok. I'll do it." He glanced at the TV when another set of commercials came up. "When is the next performance."
"The weekend."
Phew. He can learn a quick routine in that amount of time. "As long as I don't look stupid."
"You'll look fine."
There it was! Channel 6 announced the interview. Yes! He emotionally grabbed his phone to tell Tsume, but he stopped himself.
"I wonder what they're talking about?" Inquired Lee. "I'll bet they did find kiddy porn at Tsume's place."
"I doubt it." Toboe defended. "He's just a typical guy. He's not a pedo."
Gasper shook his head. "I hope you're right. I hate people like that - - especially famous ones. They always get away with it."
"You sound like you're speaking from personal experience."
Gasper looked slapped. "No." He retorted with. "You sound like someone who's known the guy longer than portion of a year."
Toboe took that hand across the face suddenly. "No. I just think I'm a good judge of character."
Why is it every time Tsume comes up, they end up fighting? They get along 24/7 unless Tsume's name is brought up. Why does he have to be so disagreeable about Tsume. He doesn't know him. He hadn't even tried to get to know him.
"Let's just drop it. Ok?" Toboe got up. "I'm going to class; we can learn the dance right afterwards, if you're free."
Gasper nodded. "Toboe," he stopped him from walking out to say. "Thank you, for your help. And... sorry, for always upsetting you."
"It's fine." He walked out.
...
Toboe Wolf looked like he was assisting in sending letters through telegram with the way he continually tapped his foot on the floor, waiting for class to end. He's paying attention, answered and asked questions. But time was being a cheeky bastard by dragging along. Any other day he would already be back at the dorm eating a snack and griping about the work load.
Salina tapped him on the shoulder, dragging him out of the anxiety tunnel. "Hey, what happened yesterday with you and that actor?"
"It was nothing. Tsume helped me out when that mob was attacking me," he shrugged. "He used to be my boyfriend, what do you think happened?"
"I don't know. I mean, all that stuff on the news about him." She, like everyone else being nosy, replied. "Maybe he was never your boyfriend but a predator."
"I'm nineteen." He growled through his teeth.
"I know, I know. But to guys like him.."
He cut her off. "There is no "guys like him" when you're talking about Tsume! He's a great guy! And before we broke up, and any of this started, all you assholes were into it and constantly asking questions." He reminded. "So which is it? Are you jealous of me or disgusted by him?"
"Jesus, calm down drama queen. I was just asking." She sniped. "You're the one who trashed him first. So maybe you need the which is," She muttered a snide curse at him, then went back to listening to the lesson.
Toboe glared at her, until he realized that everyone, including the instructor was giving both of them a stern look for being disruptive. He apologized and settled in his seat, gaze and all, then resumed class with the others. They'd all regret their embarrassing behavior. They'll see the interview and know the truth. Tsume can begin working again, and all will be well for his boyfriend. He doesn't care who forgives him for somewhat starting it, neither does he care what people think about him for getting back with Tsume. No. That's not for him to decide. Whether out or in private, Tsume can choose how they'll exist where outsiders are concerned.
His decision to flaunt them turned into an awkward shit-show. He looked at the clock. Almost time.
When he was free, Toboe sprinted at full speed towards the dormitory. He was up in his room with a "Hi" said so quickly he barely sounded like he said anything. He closed the door of his room, then cranked up the volume on the television.
He watched on pins and needles waiting for a jump, shift, or any other editing trick. But so far, it was the same. What's his name? How'd he meet Tsume? Wasn't it weird dating someone famous, and an older man. She had asked him lame questions akin to the magazine journalist.
"Don't just show the boring part, show them when I talked about the tweets." He mumbled.
"Hey," Gasper greeted upon entering the room.
"Hey."
"Oh, you're on TV." He beamed. Getting shushed, he then shrugged a response. "What's the interview about?"
"Just watch." The guy sure could talk too much. Sheesh.
"What made you break up with Tsume Keina? Did he abuse you in some way?"
"No. Not at all. He was always kind and sweet." Toboe glanced at the camera. "I was just upset over a personal matter; Tsume had only wanted to help me, but I felt like I was being overprotected."
"So he was controlling?"
"No. I have.." He doesn't think it was anyone's business. But, to clear Tsume it had to be shared. "I have a stalker, and he asked one of his bodyguards to watch out for me. I got upset because he did it without tell me - It was kinda immasculating. You would know if you were a guy. Girls like it, but guys.. we kinda feel dumb because we wanna look out for ourselves."
"Seems a bit extreme a reaction."
"Yeah, well, try being a babied baby brother. It's upsetting when you're finally a man to feel you're going down that road again." Toboe sighed. "So I broke up with him."
"And revealed all on Twitter? You started a cancel circulation,"
"I was mad and deeply regret it. I wanted him to know, I was happy with or without him. But," he showed her his phone. "Those Tweets aren't mine. Someone resembled my account to impersonate me. But this is my account. And as you can see, the tweets aren't mine."
"And who's to say this isn't a means to backpedal?"
"It's not. Believe me." He looked at the photo. "That's us, but we didn't pose for the picture. It was doctored." He points. "I can search through my photos and find where they got this from, but this never happened."
"Why now are you coming clean about this? Who are you that a person would impersonate you?"
"I'm nobody. But, to someone out there I've become a somebody. And they wanted Tsume and me apart." Pointing to the sheet of tweets he states. "How better to keep us that way than to not only have us broken up but angry at each other. I knew nothing about the fake account until Tsume's friend show them to me."
Toboe, presently, watched and mouthed along with himself. Nothing was wrong, nothing was taken out. It was the interview they had.
"So, everyone, please stop thinking bad things about Tsume because of me." He looked into the camera. "He's just a great guy, who got mixed up with a goofy nitwit, who wasn't ready for the spotlight and all that came with it."
"Toboe.. Are you really ok with this? What was the point of canceling him if you were gonna undo it?" Gasper asked. "You can't uncancel someone, it screws up the entire culture."
Toboe looked at Gasper. "...What are you talking about? We ruined an innocent man in one of the top three worst ways imaginable. I may be mad at Tsume, he may not be my boyfriend anymore, but ...I just don't wanna do that to him. Not anymore, and not from the start." He changed the channel. "I hope this fixes everything."
Gasper took a gulp, then approached his friend. "Toboe... please don't be with Tsume anymore."
"I'm not." He shook his head. "Why do you care so much?"
"Because.. It's because I like you, ok." He hurried over to his bed, lying down and turning himself so he's facing the wall.
Toboe could only stare. Was.. Was he serious? No way. He has to be joking. "Gasper, I.."
"Just forget it. It's awkward."
"What about Leara?" This was a lie. It had to be.
"I like her, but only as a friend... I wanted to go out with you, so I kinda 'Duff-ed' her, hoping to get close to you."
Toboe listened to the stuffy voice. Dear God, he's crying, or teary. "Gasper... I really don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything. It's too embarrassing to be pitied."
"I'm not, but.. You can't expect me to hear that and not respond to it."
The room grew silent. Toboe couldn't help but think that it made sense. That moment in his house. How Gasper just happened to be there so quickly when his stalker assaulted him. How thrilled he was when he broke up with Tsume. All because he liked him. Tsume, his stalker, his roommate. Why is he suddenly so popular. Tsume makes sense, he's his boyfriend. But the rest? He's just an average nobody.
"I guess you wanna change roommates now? Or dress in the bathroom..."
"No. Only cause I didn't think of it," he teased. "Look, it's weird that you like me. But, I'm not offended or want you away from me. I just.. I'm not ready to date anyone else. And since you're currently seeing one of my good friends, that makes you a least of prospect." He sighed. "Let's just forget about this. If you and Leara happen to break up, then we can talk, but until then.. Let's just stay friends. Ok?"
"And you won't be uncomfortable?"
"Maybe a little, what do you expect?"
"But, you'll still gonna dance with the crew?"
"Sure! That I'm fine with."
Gasper was quiet, taking all the responses and emotions in. Sitting up, he wiped his face. "Thanks."
Toboe smiled. Opening his arms to the baby, he said. "Bring it in, ya cryer."
Snickering, Gasper took the offer. And, moving back a bit from it, he took a little more. Leaning in, he kissed Toboe.
