Aspirations
Chapter 29
“How are the kids doing?”
Aizawa looked up from his desk in the teachers’ lounge. You leaned back against the side of the desk, turning your torso to look at him. When you did you could practically see the stress rolling off of him in waves. You pushed yourself away from the desk to stand behind him. Before he even had a chance to answer your original question, you were rubbing some of the knotted up muscles in his neck.
“I’m not a therapist but if you want to unload, I can still listen,” you leaned down and whispered into his ear.
A small sound of acknowledgement left his throat. You felt when he gently pulled your hand around to his jaw and just held it there as though the heat of yours and his combined hand was the best stress relief in the world. Gently as he let out a deep breath, you used your free hand to massage the underside of his jaw and around his ear on the other side.
“They’re doing fine,” he finally mumbled.
As he spoke you could feel his unshaven whiskers brushing up against your fingers. You did your best not to wiggle or giggle under such a tickling sensation. You slowly moved your free hand down to his neck to knead there, trying to make the connection area less tense. You had tried to move your other hand but Aizawa seemed really content with it splashed out over his jaw and lower cheek.
“They’ve set up the call center and patrol times. Nabu island is giving them experience with the mundane chores that beginning heroes are expected to take up.”
“In other words, Bakugou hates it there,” you said with an amused smile.
“Hm,” Aizawa made a sound of agreement.
Once you’d relaxed the back of his neck as best you could with one hand, you gently slid your hand around towards his upper pectoral muscles. You stopped when you heard him take in a sharper breath but when he gave no indication to stop, you continued moving your hand under the V neck of his shirt. Though when you felt his lips on the tips of your finders, you froze in place. He brushed his lips against your fingertips once more before moving towards the palm. You felt him actually kiss there; no way to mistake that as an accident. You weren’t really sure what to do other than stand there with a rising flush spreading out over your face.
“Keep going.”
You shifted for a moment, confused over the whole situation. You moved in closer so that you had more slack. Tentatively you started massaging the rest of his chest. Your own was dangerously close to becoming a set of pillows for the man in front of you. That became a reality when Aizawa let go of your hand and leaned his head back against you with his eyes closed.
He didn’t say anything else as you pulled the tension out of his body. Though when you started to withdraw, Aizawa grabbed your wrists. He opened a single eye as he turned around in the chair. At which point there was no way to disguise the blush that had taken over your face. He said nothing about it as he placed his forehead against your lower chest and moved your hands back onto his neck once more. Through the embarrassment and decidedly not school appropriate tension, you managed to keep massaging. Though as you felt him cautiously moving his hands up your covered legs, spreading shivers, you had the sudden realization that you might not be standing up for long.
“Hey if you're giving out massages in the lounge, sign me up!”
The silence was broken when you heard President Mic call out. You quickly pulled your hands away and backed up a half step. Though you noticed that Aizawa was a lot slower to move his hands away. In fact you actually felt him grip at the fabric on your hips before he dropped his hands. You took a deep breath, squeezing your eyes closed, before nodding. It was more to yourself as though that action would help restart your brain.
“Sure,” you responded the moment you felt like you could use your voice again. “Have a seat at your desk, take off the support item, and I’ll be right there.”
Though you didn’t see it, as you were trying to ignore the whole situation in favor of remaining professional, Aizawa sent his friend the most anger-filled glare of their entire relationship. Once he knew that his silent message had been received loud and clear, the pro-hero turned back around in his desk. Aizawa contemplated leaving the room but that plan was quickly vetoed. It wouldn’t be logical to go around others until he calmed back down. Instead he plopped his head down onto his arms as he hid his lower half under the table as best as he could manage.
On the other side of the room, after realizing what he really had really just interrupted, President Mic grinned widely.
You had a gut feeling why the glares and grins were being exchanged but you did your best to ignore it all. It wouldn’t be the first time a guy hardened up during a massage and it wouldn’t be the last time. You just did your best to remain professionally neutral each time. Though there was something about this time that was making it hard to ignore, even though you were moving away from him. Maybe it had been the sound of his deep breathing or the way he’d taken one of your hands hostage for a while. Or perhaps the fact that you had let him kiss your palm and move you about as he’d wanted. Or maybe it was the idea that if President Mic hadn’t come into the room, you would have been on his lap…possibly giving him a different kind of rub down all together.
Shit.
Your imagination wasn’t helping. Which meant that you were once again grateful that women didn’t have such obvious signs as guys when fully clothed.
Half way through the massage, with President Mic commenting on how good you were at your job, Aizawa stood up from his desk and left the room. Though you couldn’t see it the blond smiled. You did feel and hear as he chuckled. Once Aizawa was out of the room you smacked the back of President Mic’s head.
“Ow! What was that for?!”
“Teasing him over something he can’t control is rude. Not cool,” you told him with a disapproving look on your face as you went back to doing your job.
Even as President Mic laid his head back onto the desk, he couldn’t help but continue his wide smile. You were trying to push it off as a natural reaction huh? Well President Mic decided right there and then that he was just going to have to call his friend out on everything until either Aizawa did something about it or you got the real point.

“You’re wasting your potential,” a deeper timbre rumbled from beneath you.
“Wasting is a harsh word,” you returned as you washed your hands.
Endeavor sat up behind you. As he pulled back on the top portion of his costume, he continued to speak.
“I had my sidekicks do research on your family.”
You clenched your jaw. That felt like such an invasion of privacy that you wanted to snap at him. It was one thing to connect the dots between you and Recovery Girl or even ask you about your parents. Actually investigating them was another thing entirely.
“Your mother was in the top three back in your home country.”
You nodded as you turned around to face the intense fire user.
“You inherited her quirk. You could have climbed the hero ranks when you graduated. Why didn’t you?”
“I inherited a combination of my mother’s and my father’s quirk,” you said as you tried to relax. “But I wasn’t as motivated to become a hero like my mom. I didn’t have the self dedication to train everyday and mom was okay with me having a normal childhood. So I didn’t enroll in a high school targeted at becoming a hero. I went to a high school more focused on science, medicine, and technology instead. I planned to become a doctor but after witnessing how many bullshit regulations are placed on Doctors who want to use their quirk to help people…I switched focus. This way I could help people before I turned 30 and not be swimming in a sea of student loans.”
“You could do a lot more with your quirk.”
It was something that your great aunt had told you in various different ways many times before. It was a message that had been delivered to you when U.A decided to hire you. Endeavor was just the latest messenger. One you were still irritated with given the fact that he had the nerve to investigate your past.
“You could surpass your mother if you trained with someone that has a comparable quirk.”
“Endeavor…look…Don’t get me wrong, what you do for people is amazing. But the world still needs people doing regular jobs too. We still need farmers and doctors, shopkeepers and teachers. And we especially need mothers and fathers;happy families are the building blocks of a better society. Pro-Heroes don’t always get to have happy families because of the life and death aspects of it all.”
Endeavor nodded in quiet contemplation. The silence didn’t last long as he asked: “You're planning on having a family soon?”
You shrugged. “I’m turning 22 soon; I still have plenty of time to figure out when or if I’m ready to raise a family.”
“It would be a shame if you did not procreate,” the large man said as he worked on the pieces of armor he wore now. “Your capacity for intellect and compassion as well as your quirk would strengthen the next generation.”
You took that as a compliment. Especially seeing as it had somehow made the air a little tense as though he realized that he’d just given you a compliment. You walked him to the door without drawing attention to the tense atmosphere. He somehow made it worse when he’d gotten to the door.
Endeavor stopped as he looked at you. “If we can’t ease people’s fears soon, there will be more groups fighting for power. If that happens you need to choose a partner with a strong quirk so that you and your future children stay safe.”
What…could you even say to that? Though you heard it directly from the source, you couldn’t believe that It had actually come out of Endeavor’s mouth. He had seemed so confident in his ability to step up into the spot that All Might had left behind at the billboard show. He had told everyone to “watch him” in a way that left no room for doubt. And yes, you had recently gone back to watch that as you’d gotten curious. Yet now he was accepting that society was going to change if they, if he, couldn’t help everyone feel secure in the new regime. It felt like you were missing something - something that would connect the two ideas to make them make more sense.
You nodded with a shocked look on your face. Your aunt…the Hero Public Safety Commission…Principal Nezu…and now Endeavor…all echoing similar messages. It was kind of terrifying. What did they all know that you didn’t?
