It was at dusk that Seras would have felt revived. But this night the blonde vampire lay motionless. She didn't have the strength to move anymore. Somehow she could sense that the end was coming. She had no strength to fight it. Alucard was not far away from the building where she was being held. He was hiding in an alley where no one could see him. The sun couldn't reach him where he was. He lifted his head and cocked an ear. He could hear voices, male voices.
"Sir, maybe we should try one more time. With the end coming she may finally give up the location of Hellsing." One of Sarlis’s comrades said.
"I have told you already she won't talk. There's no sense in putting it off. The vampire is of no use to us so we might as well destroy her and get it over with." Sarlis replied.
Alucard needed to hear only two words, Hellsing and vampire. But there was another word that made his blood run cold...destroy. "Destroy her? Over my undead body." Alucard growled. He realized he was hiding behind the very building where he heard the voices. He vanished and reappeared inside the building.
Alucard heard several voices. He could hear their footsteps. He transformed into a mist and followed them. He watched them stop at a door. Sarlis motioned to two guards. One had a huge knife and the other carried a can of gasoline and a box of matches.
"All right, get this done with and be quick about it. I don't want this taking too long. And be careful when you burn the body. I don't want you two burning the entire building down." Sarlis said.
"Yes sir." The men said. They unlocked the door while Sarlis and his men left. Alucard wanted to render the entire group limb from limb, but he had to get to Seras before the guards destroyed her. Closing the door was no hindrance. He simply slipped under the crack of the door still in his mist form. The guards stood over Victoria. She lay motionless on the floor.
"She may be dead already for all we know. Maybe we should just torch the bitch." One guard said.
Before he could do anything he suddenly found a white-gloved hand sticking out of his chest. He just stood there with a rather shocked look on his face as blood spurted from the now huge open wound. His insides were ripped out of his chest and he fell to the floor dead. The other guard didn't know whether to scream or shoot. He tried to flee but found that same hand, now bloodied grip his throat very tightly. The last thing he saw was a pair of glowing red eyes. The last thing he felt was pair of sharp fangs rip his throat apart. Alucard fed upon the guard with reckless abandon.
When he'd finished feasting upon his victim he looked over and his eyes widened. There was Seras. Her clothes were torn and bloodied. She was covered in dirt from having to lie on the floor for so long. She wasn't moving. Alucard rushed over to her and scooped her up in his arms.
"Police girl, say something." He said.
"Police girl, talk to me. Talk to me! Your master commands you!" He demanded shaking her. Still there was no sound from her.
"No. You cannot be gone. I made you. I forbid you to leave me this way." He said shaking Seras's motionless body fiercely. He looked over to the guards he'd killed.
"She needs blood. She's starving." He thought.
He carried Seras over to where one of the dead guards lay. He dipped his fingers in the gathering pool of blood. Then he gently rubbed it on her lips. The scarlet liquid began to seep into her mouth. There was nothing for a moment, but then one of Seras's hands began to move slightly. Seeing reaction he grabbed the guard's wrist and bit into it causing it to bleed. Alucard grabbed the bleeding wrist and held it to her mouth. The blood began to drop onto her lips and slowly her mouth opened. The blood dripped into her mouth and she began to feel her strength slowly beginning to return. She opened her eyes. She saw the red eyes of Alucard.
"Master?" She whispered wearily.
"Police girl. Keep feeding." Alucard said.
After a few moments Seras was strong enough to move. "Master, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone on my own. They..." She stammered.
"Be still police girl. I will look into your mind and find out what I want to know." Alucard said.
He concentrated and looked into her mind. He saw her being attacked. He saw them stick needles into her draining most of her blood. He saw her being whipped repeatedly and being struck in the face. His blood boiled with rage. He wanted to find them all and kill them. He knew the others were still in the building. He could kill them all and be gone with Seras before anyone noticed anything, but he didn't want to kill them too quickly. And Seras needed to be taken back to Hellsing where she could recover. But he would return. He would track them down. He'd find them and make them know what true suffering was. He was going to put the HELL in Hellsing. Alucard held Seras tightly in his arms and disappeared.
Integra paced back and fourth in her office. Now both Alucard and Seras had both gone missing. "This is a bloody nightmare. Where could those two be?" Integra asked worriedly.
Walter rushed through the door. "Sir Integra! Alucard has returned with Miss Victoria!" He called.
"It's about damn time. Where are they?" Integra asked.
"Alucard has taken her to the lower levels. He didn't look very happy. He had her in his arms and wouldn't let anyone go near her." Walter answered.
"I'm going to see what's going on." Integra replied.
"Sir Integra, be careful. Alucard received the staff who tried to approach to see if she was all right very harshly. He made it very clear no one was to approach either him or Miss Victoria." Walter said.
"He won't pull that type of thing with me. He knows better than to step out of line in such a manner." Integra stated.
"Sir Integra, Alucard may not be himself. Please be careful." Walter responded.
"I will." Integra said. She left for the lower levels.
Alucard kept Seras very close to him. He held her in his arms. Though she'd started recovering physically, emotionally she was still very weak.
"Master, I should have listened to you. I should have taken my freedom from you when you offered it to me. I'm so sorry master..." She sobbed.
"Hush police girl. It's over now." Alucard said holding her tightly to him.
Her tears soaked through his shirt. His eyes were wide with both pain and anger. He couldn't believe how deeply this was affecting him. It ripped at his heart how she had been tortured repeatedly. It tore into his very core how she'd endured all the pain not just for the sake of Hellsing, but for him. She'd suffered for him.
Integra walked to the lower levels and found Alucard's chamber. The door was closed.
"Alucard, let me in. I want to know what's going on with you and Officer Seras. The staff was only concerned with her welfare. You had no right to behave toward them as you did." Integra said. For a moment there was no answer.
"Alucard, open this door!" Integra shouted.
The door opened by itself. Integra saw Alucard sitting on his bed clutching Seras tightly to him.
"Alucard, what's the meaning of this? I do not appreciate being ignored." Integra demanded.
Then she saw Alucard's face. She saw his eyes. They glowed with unnatural light. It was rare she saw such emotion in his eyes, both rage and sadness. She immediately eased her temper when she saw that look.
"What happened to her?" Integra asked.
"They drained her. They tortured her. They almost destroyed her. They tried to take her away from me." Alucard said cryptically.
Integra had never heard this kind of tone from Alucard. There was no hint of the usual cockiness and arrogance from him. Integra started to enter the chamber.
"Do not come near!" Alucard hissed.
"Alucard, I'm not going to hurt her. I know you are upset but, there's no cause for taking such a tone with me." Integra replied sternly.
"You do not know what I feel master. You've never known what it is to know this kind of pain." Alucard growled.
"I need to know why she was kidnapped. I need to know who kidnapped her." Integra insisted. Alucard only glared at Integra with his raging red eyes.
"All right, all right. I'll leave you alone for now. But when she recovers I want to know everything." Integra said and left.
"Master?" Seras asked wearily.
"It's all right police girl. I won't leave you. I won't leave you until you feel safe enough to be left alone." Alucard said. He kept her in his arms. He didn't want to let her go for fear of losing her again. While the sun was out he would stay with her. He would hold her, comfort her. He would make her feel safe.
"Go to sleep police girl. You need to regain your strength." Alucard replied.
"I'm afraid to sleep. I'm afraid of the nightmares." Seras said.
"The nightmares will not haunt you. Your master is with you now."
Integra walked back to her office. Walter was waiting for her.
"Sir Integra, are Alucard and Miss Victoria all right?" He asked.
"They are all right. But make word to the staff and troops no one is to disturb them right now. Seras Victoria was kidnapped and tortured. Alucard is not himself. Anyone who tries to approach may get killed. Right now if we don't bother him everything will be fine. Right now they just need time. He won't leave her until he feels she's safe. That is all we can do for now."
