Week 2
Day 11 without Eiri
Shuichi paced the length of the living room as he thought about the last few days. At work he had been pretty productive, but Bad Luck had only a couple songs left before he would be forced to pop out the remaining ones to fill the album. He had managed to write one song since Eiri had left, but he hadn’t shown it to anyone yet. Truth was he wasn’t confident that it was even very good. It seemed to pour out of him due to his loneliness, and, as far as any of his songs went, this was the saddest one he had ever created.
He sighed loudly as he crossed the living room again. He was thankful he had worked only half a day and even more so that company was coming. The morning had been full of pleading from their producer to have the next songs ready within the week. Shuichi had explained that he would try, but at the moment, he didn’t feel too inspired. Right now he just wanted his company to show up.
Tatsuha had called the night before. He had announced when he would arrive after five and that he would spend the evening at the apartment. He had even informed Shuichi they would take in dinner and watch Nittle Grasper videos.
Shuichi had been excited for the first time in two weeks. He thought that this would be a welcome distraction. One which he needed very badly at the moment.
Shuichi also knew that he could give Tatsuha the eleven letters he’d written, to forward to Eiri. In a small way, Shuichi felt that once the letters were sent off, he would be that much closer to Eiri. He knew it really wasn’t a connection, just a one sided conversation.
A knock on the door threw him from his thoughts. He raced to answer down the hall, throwing the door open; in the front of him stood Tatsuha, looking a little grumpy.
Shuichi grinned widely. Though he knew Tatsuha wasn’t Eiri, the brother’s resemblance eased him a little. “Tatsuha!” he stated obviously.
Tatsuha half smiled to the pink haired man. “Are you going to let me in or just stare at me all evening?”
“Oh sorry.” Shuichi blushed. “Come on in.” Shuichi stepped aside, letting Tatsuha enter.
“I got dinner,” he stated, holding up a bag full of take out from a local restaurant.
Shuichi grinned, “Oh, I have the videos all ready. We can eat in the living room if you like. Eiri’s not here so…” Shuichi paused, frozen by his own words. He Tatsuha knew Eiri was gone, but he still had not meant to bring the writer up. The pain from his own sentence hit him. For a moment the singer’s face went dull.
“I know. Don’t worry. I’m not going to tell him.” Tatsuha smiled and winked.
Shuichi faked a smile and led them to the living room. He switched on the TV and took the remote, sitting with his back against the couch.
Tatsuha sat down next to him. “How are you holding up?”
“I dunno. I suppose there are good days and bad. I just miss him so much.”
Tatsuha nodded. “Well, I saw him the other day and he’s doing well. He said he’s been getting a lot of work done and he’s keeping busy. He wouldn’t go into too much detail, but did ask me how you are and how things are going with you.”
Shuichi looked at the Tatsuha with wide eyes. “He really asked about me?”
“Don’t be stupid; of course he did. I know he’s worried about you, even if he won’t admit it. I think he wanted me to visit more, but I have a lot stuff at the temple that keeps me busy so I can’t keep coming here all the time. I can only come when I have a spare day.”
“That’s ok, I understand. I’m thankful for what you’re doing. I’m so glad you’re here now, and to know Eiri asked about me. He really does love me,” Shuichi sighed happily.
The younger man rolled his eyes. “Give me a break will you? Besides, you can visit me at the temple, you know, if things get really bad.”
“Thank you so much, Tatsuha.”
“Whatever,” the younger man shrugged it off.
Shuichi smiled as he watched his lover’s brother take the food out of the bag. He had planned for them to sit in the living room and had prepared the table there with plates and chopsticks. “Man, I’m hungry. I feel like I could eat a house.”
“You look like you’ve lost a little weight. You’ve been eating haven’t you?” Tatsuha asked, his eyes studied the singer who had already stuffed his mouth full of food.
“I eat,” Shuichi mumbled through his dinner.
“Oh yeah? How much?” Tatsuha challenged.
“I eat when I’m hungry.” Shuichi shrugged. “I have been eating a little less, but I’m okay, really. I promise. I think it’s just a little stress from recording.” Shuichi grinned though he saw Tatsuha eye him suspiciously.
“Fine,” he sighed. “Well tonight we’ll have some fun. We’ll watch Ryuichi and his sexy self dance and sing all night.”
Shuichi bounced. “Yes, tonight will be terrific.”
“That’s what I like about you, Shuichi. You know great talent when you see it. Just remember: Ryuichi is all mine, and we’ll get along great.”
“Oh don’t worry. Eiri is the only man for me,” he grinned as he suddenly remembered the envelopes sitting by the phone. “Oh before I forget, I have eleven letters for you to give to Eiri. Please don’t forget to take them. I don’t think I could wait until next time for you to send them.”
“Eleven? Wow you’ve kept busy. I’m sure he’ll appreciate them.”
“Well, it keeps me focused to write him. When I do it feels like he’s not so far away.” Shuichi paused a moment before continuing, “Did… did he …?”
Tatsuha shook his head. “No, he didn’t send me with anything.”
“Oh,” Shuichi replied disappointedly.
“Maybe next time. For now let’s watch some Ryuichi!” Tatsuha smiled diving into his food.
Shuichi smiled, once again he felt filled with hope. Tatsuha was right; maybe Eiri had been busy and would send him a letter next time. “Yes, let’s watch,” he said as he flipped the DVD player on and settled his back against the couch.
Within moments both men were glued to the TV, watching the singer of Nittle Grasper. Though Shuichi had met Sakuma-san many times, and was even his rival in music, to him; the older singer was still an idol. Shuichi was still in awe of him when he watched Ryuichi sing. Shuichi loved his music, and he was still a fan boy, no matter how close the two had become.
“Don’t you just love his voice? And the way he moves is just so beautiful. He’s like an angel,” Tatsuha said, as he drooled a little.
“He is and he’s a really great guy. He’s very generous and is always trying to make you happy,” Shuichi chimed in.
“I know. He’s the perfect man for me. He’s just so… so amazing.”
Shuichi turned to Tatsuha. The younger man’s eyes were still glued to the TV as he watched the imaged Sakuma-san belt out notes and sway his hips. Shuichi’s mind began to turn and a small smirk crossed his lips. “You should ask him out sometime.”
Tatsuha sighed, his eyes unable to tear away from the visions on the screen. “I keep asking Eiri to pull strings for me to see him again. He said I need to do it on my own, but I think he just likes seeing me suffer.”
“I could help.”
Tatsuha snapped his head to the side to stare at Shuichi. “You would? Why?”
“Well,” Shuichi started, as he fiddled with his own fingers, “You’re helping me with visiting and sending my letters to Eiri. Not to mention the fact you and Sakuma-san are both my friends, so it’s easy for me. Then, of course, there’s the fact that I don’t really have much else to do; so any excuse to have company is wonderful.”
Tatsuha’s eyes grew wide. “You mean it?”
Shuichi nodded. “Yeah, of course. Let me talk to him and I can set up a meeting here. When’s good for you?”
“Anytime. Just tell me when and I’ll make time to be here.”
“Great. I’ll talk to him as soon as I can.”
“You’re the best!” Tatsuha exclaimed with excitement throwing his arms around the pink haired singer.
Shuichi giggled. He already felt better than he had in days. He had company and he now had something to work on besides music. He grinned as he thought of convincing Sakuma-san to come over. He didn’t think it would take much. Shuichi would just have to find out when Sakuma-san’s nex day off from the studio was.
“Thank you! Thank you! This is the best thing ever,” the younger man said, squeezing Shuichi.
“You’re welcome,” Shuichi laughed.
“If you ever need anything, let me know. I’ll owe you big if you can do this.”
“I’ll let you know. For now, let’s just see if I can arrange it.” Shuichi smiled. This had turned out to be one of the good days.
