Chapter Three
Chapter Three
“That was fun wasn\'t it?” Ash asked as he and Misty came through the front door of their beautiful small home.
“Yeah that lady at the library with the Jumpluff was funny.” Misty giggled. “And the waiter at the diner, I think he needs to start hiring Machoke instead of Machamp, they\'re to big to just sit there washing dishes all day, I mean they do have that extra set of arms but they only help in breaking dishes, not washing them.”
The young couple sat down at their kitchen table, the library books and bags were scattered around them, waiting to be read and unpacked. They playfully continued their conversation, while resting from their long afternoon walk. The day had been wonderful, despite the overly humid August weather, but it was a rare treat indeed for them to enjoy the time together without Misty going through her mood swings, not that they were entirely her fault mind you. Now hopefully the pleasantness would continue into their evening together as well.
“Yup.” Ash said with a smirk, recollecting their fun filled day. “Hey, and remember that blind guy in the isle with the Seeing Eye Houndour? What\'s he doing at the library if he can\'t see to read?”
“Ash that\'s not funny! He reads brail!” Misty yelled and glared at her husband in horror; honestly, some of things that boy said were simply unbelievable!
“Oh sorry…” Ash sighed, meanwhile praying to the Gods that Misty wouldn\'t start crying. These last nine months had been a nightmare; he didn\'t know a woman was capable of producing so many tears. “I guess I wasn\'t thinking straight. You\'re right, it wasn\'t funny.”
“Ash what am I going to do with you?” The red head sighed shaking her head.
“Love me till death do us part like that judge guy who married us said… You know I don\'t get it, why do they say till death do us part, that doesn\'t…”
“Ash cut it while you\'re ahead.” With a smirk, Misty rubbed her pregnant tummy with both hands and again shook her head at the teen\'s antics.
“No I was going to say, that I\'ll still love you if you died, I would never love another girl. I couldn\'t.”
“Oh Ash… that\'s so sweet.” Misty giggled. “Extremely morbid… but sweet nonetheless.”
“Well, um, yeah… uh, so you want to start skimming through these books. We have a week left before the baby is due, might as well brush up on everything we read and see if we missed anything.”
“Ok, lets see, this one\'s called “Modern Parents”.” The red head shuffled around the books that were on the table to find the one she was looking for.
Misty happily flipped through the book\'s pages stopping to read every now and then when something caught her eye. Soon she came to a chapter entitled “Delivery”. However after a few minutes her interest turned to fear, and she abruptly closed the book hid her face in her hands and began to cry. Ash looked up from the book that he was reading on teenage pregnancy, and wondered what had made his wife so upset.
“Mist, what\'s wrong?” The adolescent asked as he stood up and put his hand on her shoulder. He kissed her forehead and grabbed a tissue from the box on the counter to wipe her eyes.
“Ash… I\'m, I\'m scared… what if something happens? What if… something goes wrong?”
Ash opened the book to the page that Misty was reading. He quickly skimmed through a few pages and a weird half smile half frown stretched across his face. He then closed the book and put it to the side away from the others.
“Don\'t cry Mist, nothings going to go wrong and nothing bad will happen. Remember how the doctor explained everything to us? I\'ll be there every step of the way and I\'ll never leave your side. And if I have to, I\'ll deliver our baby by myself.” Ash said with pride. As he spoke he noticed that Pikachu and Togepi had walked into the room, they must have been in the bedroom playing with their toys.
(I\'m gonna help too!) Yelled the electric rodent while throwing up a little yellow fist into the air above him.
“That\'s right Pikachu, we won\'t let Misty down!” Ash was apparently trying to be as cheerful as possible, even though he was scared as all hell. He had unfortunately read the part in the book where it explained how childbirth was very painful and that some woman did not make it through alive. He also unfortunately stopped reading after that, so he missed the part where it described how that only happened in the past. The book then went on to discuss new medical techniques and procedures in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries developed by leading doctors in the field to ensure a healthy mommy and baby. He certainly did not remember Misty\'s doctor eliciting anything of that nature to the young couple.
(I\'m gonna help too mommy!) Shouted Togepi who didn\'t fully understand the situation.
“Thanks Togepi.” Misty said as she lifted her tear-drenched face from the table. Both Ash and Pikachu gave her those looks of “hey what about us?” So Misty smiled and thanked them too. “Oh, you guys too.”
“So, um Misty… how are you feeling anyway?” Ash inquired, he was now somewhat nervous.
“Fine…” Misty mumbled, and then suddenly she yelled out in pain. “Aahh owww! … Ok maybe I\'m not fine.”
“Oh my God, what happened?” Ash shouted in alarm, as he quickly grabbed hold of Misty\'s hand.
“I don\'t know… it felt like this stabbing pain in my back… I think… Ash… I think my water just broke.”
“Holly shit…” Ash murmured as he looked down at the floor underneath the chair that his wife was sitting on. There was a puddle of liquid around it and some was still dripping down the chair and Misty\'s legs. “Pikachu call 911 and get an ambulance!”
(I can\'t speak human dumb ass!) Pikachu erupted in a fit of “pika\'s”.
“Fuck! I forgot. Damn it, where the fuck is Brock when we need his fucking ass!”
(Mommmmmmyyyy!) Togepi began to cry. She was really upset at the fact that her “mommy” was in such tremendous pain.
Misty was meanwhile holding her stomach and taking huge deep breaths or more like panicked gulps of oxygen. Tears were forming in her bright blue eyes, as Ash looked at her, he gradually became lost in reflection. He knew what was going on but how on Earth was he going to handle the situation? His mind was racing like the Pokémon Grand Pre, images, feelings and thoughts zipped through his confused brain as if a Girafarig had just used a psychic attack on him. Nothing could bring him out of his current state; Ash had lost the capability to focus. Then he heard it… like a distant cry for help in the shadows of Dark Cave, yet the voice wasn\'t so distant and the cave he was traveling through was only his conscious.
“Ash…” Misty whimpered looking straight into his dark brown eyes. “I don\'t think I\'m gonna… make it to the hospital… Ash I…”
Poor Misty cried in agony she had never experienced so much bitter pain in all her life. Upon hearing his true loves cries, Ash shook his head to rid his mind of the thoughts that had invaded his being. Then and there he became fully aware of the circumstances that lay at hand, yet he still had not realized that he could simply call for an ambulance himself.
“That bastard! Of all the fucking days for him not to be here!” He suddenly cursed.
“Ash please…” Misty whispered through gritted teeth.
“Pikaaaa…” Pikachu mumbled, even he did not know what to do.
“Uh… I… jeez… I know! I choose everyone! Come out!” Ash shouted as he tossed out all his Poké Balls. Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Noctowl, Totodile, and Cindaquil all appeared in flashes of different colored lights. “Ok, we have to get Misty to the bedroom, so um… Bulbasaur, use your vines to carry Misty. But you have to be careful, hold her above her waist.”
“Bulba!” The grass Pokémon quickly agreed. As gently as he could Bulbasaur lifted Misty up and carefully carried her to the bedroom, where he gently laid her down.
Ash then fixed the pillows on the bed to make her more comfortable, however Misty was still in a remarkable amount of pain.
“Noctowl, use your Hypnosis on Misty so she\'s still awake, but can\'t feel any thing.” Ash ordered. “…um…” He thought about what else he needed to do and get. He had never been in this situation before. “Bulbasaur… uh, go get me some towels…hmm, what else… Chikorita, get me a blanket… it has to be really soft for the baby.”
“Toge, toge, toge!” Togepi was jumping up and down on the bed next to Misty in excitement, everything was happening so fast; it was like being in a Pokémon battle… but not quite.
“Cindaquil, keep Togepi away from Misty… Pikachu, you stay here… damn Totodile, wash my hands. Where are the towels?” Ash looked down at the foot of the bed and a few of them were already neatly placed on top of the blanket that Chikorita had brought. Ash quickly put a towel under Misty; he obviously didn\'t want the bed to get dirty from… well… you know.
“Ash hurry!” Misty shrieked, even though it didn\'t necessarily hurt, she could still feel the baby moving around inside her, and to top it all off there was that really strange feeling between her legs.
“Um… alright… everyone in place!” Ash ordered the Pokémon around him, who evidently merely stared at him not knowing what to do. “Uh… now Misty, I um… want you to push.” In fact he had heard that line so many times that he thought it was the only thing he was sure of… sort of. “I\'m right here, don\'t worry… this\'ll all be over in a sec…I hope…” The last part he muttered under his breath.
Well, now Ash was ready… or so he thought; the trainer had never done anything remotely similar to this, hell he never even had to administer first aid before in his life! Delivering a baby? That was like skipping learning how to train a level five Bulbasaur and going straight to battling a level seventy-five Raiku then trying to capture it with a regular old Poké Ball! Nonetheless, he thought… “There\'s a first time for everything right?” However he apparently didn\'t know what to expect, not to mention had no clue as to what to do. Meanwhile Misty was screaming at Ash… actually… it was more like cursing at him, the Pokémon were running wildly around him making ungodly amounts of noise, and Brock was still not home from the Gods only knew where. Damn it, he should have asked one of the Pokémon to bring him earplugs, two aspirins and a bottle of Corona… this was definitely not working out too well.
