Chapter Three: The Return of His Nightmares
“Impmon, why do you always leave us? Don’t you like us? Are we not your friends?”
A red dinosaur popped his head into Beelzemon’s line of sight. He sighed. After all this time of training to regain his mega form, Guilamon insisted in calling him Impmon. It wasn’t like he didn’t like being his rookie form, it was just he felt weak. And when he felt weak, well, the last time he went on his power rage a good friend was lost. But for once, he wished they would see how much he’d become. The only one who ever addressed him as Beelzemon was-
“Hmmph. It doesn’t matter if he comes to eat with us or not. Beelzemon, why don’t you go train—you look like you’re annoyed with us. Oh, wait, that’s right. You’re always annoyed with us. And you’re always training!” A fox-like digimon came out of a small hut. Renemon, of course. She was still pissed at him. He had swiped away Lopmon and Terriermon after they had kept on pouncing on him. He wouldn’t have gotten so annoyed, but then Cyberdramon decided to join in. Gods, he was one heavy fucker. So he let out a small blast of energy, just enough to let everyone know to stop being such idiots. Of course Terriermon and Lopmon were a little more hurt than Cyberdramon, so Renemon went on the defensive and unleashed her attack— non-stop yelling and screaming. Which was highly unlike her, since she was always so calm and collected. Perhaps she was losing some of that finesse since Rika was still in the real world.
“You know what, why don’t you just let it go? I said I was sorry, and that’s that. If Cyberdramon would just learn a little more restraint...”
“Well why don’t you go take him training with you? Fuck, we’ve been teaching him control since Rio isn’t here. Gods, you’re such a inconsiderate prick sometimes. If you would just take some time to work with us here, then maybe you wouldn’t feel such hostility from all of us.”
“What’s hos-tily? And what’s a prick?” Guilamon asked, thoroughly confused. Renamon let out a big sigh. She always tried to make sure that all the more so or less “mature” digimon used \'appropriate language\', and here she was cussing up a storm.
“Look, how about this,” began Beelzemon, “I’ll take Cyberdramon with me for some training. We’ll bring extra food back. I’ll try to be more....social. All in exchange for”-
“Oh great. A deal with the devil.”
“Heh heh, yeah. You explain that colorful language to pineapple head over there. Oh, and how about the lil’ bunnies too? Oh, and the clunker and the angel”-
“Alright, I get it. Fine. Go train Cyberdramon. Now!” she said exasperatedly.
Cyberdramon immediately got up and headed towards Beelzemon so they could set off for his training grounds. Ten minutes later and they were in a large field, craters here and there from large impacts, raised earth from serious attacks. It held no foliage, just an expanse of desert and rocks, and with the sun setting, it was dyed blood red. Above, data streams flowed and crossed each other, and every now and then, Beelzemon could have sworn that he saw the real world. It was so close. Why not just take the risk? Maybe the after effects of the D-reaper were gone, and he could visit his tamers. Or maybe he would just evaporate, his data being torn to shreds as his being was erased. A very painful way to die. An annoyed grunt woke him from his wandering thoughts.
“Yeah yeah. Keep your head on, I’m here. Alrighty then, the first thing we need to do before training is some meditation.” Another annoyed huff was emitted as Cyberdramon let his disapproval become known.
“Hey, do you want to learn some control? You know, once you find out how to control your mind and soul, you can control your body and power. You become more powerful and capable of defeating those who oppose you. Everything around you has meaning, and if you understand it’s meaning, you can use it to help you in battle.” The larger digimon looked at the more human formed one, a quizzical look at the least. He cocked his head, questioning Beelzemon’s new found wisdom.
“Look, I’ve just had some time to think about things. I don’t wander off from you guys just for shits and giggles ya know. I’ve found purpose and peace and......stuff. Sheesh, look. Just sit on the ground like me,” he grunts as he crosses his legs, “ and feel everything around you with your mind. Instead of using brawn, use some brain.”
Cyberdramon sits down, and with some difficulty, crosses his legs. He closes his eyes like Beelzemon, peeking only when he thinks the human like digimon is just playing around with him. But no, he’s still sitting there, and at the same time, is somewhere else. Somewhere he wants to be.
Beelzemon breathes deeply, and thinks of his tamers. He chuckles lightly— if only they could see how much he’d “grown up”. Truthfully he was the same size as always. But he matured and became more aware of himself. More aware of the parts of him that didn’t belong. Parts like.......
Leomon.
Yeah, he could still feel him. Could still hear his wisdom and him shouting for Beelzemon to stop. He could still hear Jeri screaming at him, hear her say........
“You’re not Leomon.”
He wondered if he would ever truly forgive himself.
Sometime along the meditation, Cyberdramon left, apparently bored. He sighed. Some people simply didn’t get the idea of the power of the mind. He got up, frustrated that Cyberdramon left, that he couldn’t see Ai and Maiko, and that Leomon was still inside of him. If only he could change that one day, everything would be so much different.
“Leomon, I know you can’t here me, but if I could do anything for you, I’d give you back your life. Then Jeri would still have you. And she wouldn’t be so, different.”
He opened his eyes.
And he couldn’t breathe.
It was Leomon.
---- and with that, I leave you a cliffe. Hmmm, I think I always do that. Oh well.
