Chapter 3
Wally listened intently as Nimh told him all about his journeys. “So we’re not the only ones dealing with gangs?”
“Nope. Team Rocket was the reason I had to leave... Some kid caused them to disband a few years ago, but they made a comeback. I still can’t believe a Gym Leader was their boss... But at least without him, there’s no way they’ll reorganize to what they once were. They’ll be a joke.”
The younger boy smiled. Nimh was really brave to have taken on someone so powerful, someone who wouldn’t have given a second thought to just shooting him dead. Team Aqua and Team Magma, at least, tried not to kill if they could help it. Their mission was to help keep life going, even if the means were a little twisted.
“Oh that reminds me, Team Aqua and Team Magma have joined forces. They’re working on making life better for those less fortunate. I guess they finally realized their mistakes.”
Nimh grinned. “That’s good to hear. Hopefully they won’t try stealing anything again; it was such a pain to retrieve all the stuff they’d taken.”
Wally nodded and started fidgeting, feeling a little nervous. Nimh hadn’t really changed too much, he was still the Nimh Wally remembered, but not having seen him in six years... “You want something to drink?”
“Water’s fine.” The younger trainer nodded and left the room.
Nimh leaned back in the chair, watching as Wally walked out. He too had not changed very much; he was still the shy yet determined boy Nimh met in his dad’s gym. Still really cute too. He grinned to himself.
He’d always liked Wally, in one way or another. The boy was strong, as a person and as a trainer. He learned from his mistakes, and did his best to make himself better. Not at all like those other trainers that made some sort of excuse when he beat them. God, how he hated that...
Nimh was pulled from his thoughts as Wally entered the room carrying two glasses of water. “Ah, thank you.” He accepted his and sipped at it.
“Did you mean it when you said you’d take me with you?”
Nimh frowned at his uncertainty. “Of course I did. I had wanted to travel with you before, but since we were sort of rivals, it would have been really odd. But now you’re the Champion, so I’m no longer your rival. So now I have the chance to travel with you as your friend.”
Wally smiled. “So when do we leave?”
The older trainer laughed. “I’m always ready to move on, so we’ll leave when you’re settled. But we’re going to Littleroot first so I can visit my folks.”
“Oh... Alright, but I don’t want to leave yet. I want to spend some time with my family, especially if I’m never going to see them again...”
Nimh smiled sheepishly. “You’re not gonna forgive me for that, are you? We’ll definitely keep in touch, I promise.”
