Yohji fell asleep sprawled out in
her bed, and when he kicked the blankets off, she gave up trying to sleep
herself. Wrapping her robe around her,
she slipped out into the hallway. As
she neared the bathroom, Aya stepped out of his room. “Brianna?”
She smiled,
leaning against the wall. “I didn’t
realize anyone else was up.”
Aya’s rare
smile flashed at her. “It’s only about
nine.”
“Oh.” Blushing, she crossed her arms. “I, uh, I didn’t realize it was that
early. I’m sorry.”
“Un.” He glanced from her to the bathroom. “Are you getting in the bath?”
Nodding, she
shifted from foot to foot, standing up straight. “I just want a quick shower.”
“Ah.” Taking her arm, he gently guided her into
the bathroom. Shutting the door behind
them, he stepped over and leaned down to start the water. Without a word, he turned back to her and
drew her robe off.
“What
–“ She clutched his arms as he grasped
her waist and lifted her into the tub.
The water was just shy of too hot, and she was forced to blink a few
times as drops clung to her eyelashes.
Aya
stripped his clothes off and stepped into the shower with her, guiding her into
the spray so that he could wet her hair.
“You looked like you could use someone being nice.” As he carefully massaged shampoo into her
hair, he continued. “Yohji was mad, so
I’m sure that he was…rough.”
“You sound
like you’ve been in my place before.”
“Once or
twice. Usually when I’d taken a risk
during a mission. He doesn’t deal well
with the idea of losing the people he’s let in.” Aya’s voice was soft, almost uncertain, not his normal bold
growl.
“He told me
that I have to be more careful, if I don’t know everything about the people
around me.” She tipped her head back to
let the water wash the soap out, Aya’s fingers combing through to rinse all of
it.
“He’s lost
people before, that he loved. I don’t
think he’ll survive it happening again.
And Schuldich was a dangerous opponent.
Because he can read minds, he knows exactly what you’re going to do,
almost before you know yourself.” Aya
smoothed conditioner into Brianna’s hair.
“He and the team he was on hurt us badly because of their powers.”
As she was
tilted back into the spray, she pursed her lips thoughtfully. “I could probably help.”
“With
what?” Aya reached for her body wash,
pouring a generous amount into the palm of his hand.
“I have the
ability to draw things that are true.
They can touch on the past, present, or future. If you can give me details about your
missions, I can try to use my power to tell you things that you might not
otherwise find out about until it was too late.” She caught his hand as he slicked soap across her skin. “I want to help you. I can’t just sit back and watch as you all go
out and risk your lives.”
Aya’s
lavender eyes darkened with worry.
“It’s too dangerous to get you involved.”
“Please,
Aya, please?” Wet hair straggled into
her face, soapsuds covered her body, and the pleading look that she was giving
him cut directly into his heart. As he
began to shake his head, she shifted her weight, bringing her body up against
his. “I need to be able to do something
to help you. Anything.”
“Anything.” He twirled her hair around his fingers,
drawing it away from her face and tucking it behind her ears. He could feel the brush of her silken skin
against his body, and he smiled, very slightly. “Anything?”
She wrapped
her arms around his waist. “I…I love
you. You, and Yohji, and Ken, and
Omi. I want to be a part of what you
have. I want to contribute. I…I need….”
“To feel
needed?” Aya’s voice was rough, and he
leaned down to kiss her delicately, licking drops of water off of her
lips. “We need you, Brianna. More than you realize.”
“Then take
what I can offer.” She rose up on
tiptoes, capturing his mouth more firmly.
“Don’t lock me out.” She ran her
hands through his damp hair, the metal of his earring a colder touch against
her skin. Aya skimmed his hands down
her sides, grasping her thighs and lifting her higher against him. He propped her back against the cold tile as
she locked her ankles around his waist.
He leaned
his forehead against hers, closing his eyes.
“It’s a frightening thought.
You’ve seen more of what we do than anyone else. You’d be the first we’d let in completely.”
“What about
your sister?” Brianna rested her arms
on his shoulders, resisting the urge to wriggle against him.
“Aya-chan…I
told her only as much as I had to. She
thinks that we’re florists, that we were only there to save her because it was her. She doesn’t know what I had to become for
her, and it’s better that way.”
“You
haven’t even told her about Yohji? Or
me?” The words were quiet, emotionless,
but they made Aya open his eyes to see her expression.
The pain
that Brianna saw in him stole her breath.
“I don’t know how to tell her.”
“Aya…where
is your sister?”
“At
school. For music.” His smile was beautiful, though bitter. “She plays the violin.”
“Invite her
home for a visit, Aya. Invite her to
see what we’ve made here. She needs
family as much as you do.” Brianna
kissed him, and could swear that she tasted salt.
“Thank
you,” Aya whispered against her lips.
Brianna merely kissed him harder, giving in to the need she had to take
away the pain in his eyes.
He slipped
his hand between her legs, gliding over slick flesh. Brianna shuddered at the sensation of his talented fingers, but
he moved quickly, to lift her, tip her hips, and slide inside of her. He held her up against the wall with nothing
more than the pressure of his hips, his hands gliding over her breasts. He was too tall to reach her for a kiss, so
he merely watched her silently, as she began to writhe in his arms.
“Aya,
please.” She clutched his shoulders,
pulling on him, arching her body to try to make him move.
“Yes.” He smiled, and began to move, his hands
going to her hips to give him more leverage as he pumped into her. “Brianna….”
“Please,
Aya, please.” She twisted her hips, her
breath beginning to sob. He nodded,
silently, and he seemed to focus in, every touch becoming more intense as he
allowed his control to begin to wane.
As she lost control of her body, breath catching in her throat and stars
bursting in the darkness of her closed eyes, she felt Aya’s release, and heard
his rough voice call her name.
