Uncertain Responsibilities

Chapter 3

I sat on the lounge between Satoshi and Riku silently as we waiting for Risa to return from the kitchen.
“What do you suppose she wants to talk to us about?” Riku asked
“Like you I also have no idea” he raised from his seat, walking over to the window
“Must be something important” I added to the conversation
“What makes you say that Niwa?” his gaze never leaving the window
“Well Miss Harada has invited us all here and well has been acting strangely all day”
As if on cue Risa entered the lounge room carrying a try of steaming hot chocolate ‘hmm trust Risa to sweeten the moment’ I thought as I watched her place the tray on the coffee table.
“Well what is the reason you’ve dragged us all up here?” Satoshi spoke stoically “I don’t have all day to sit here and play, I have exams I have to study for” he continued
“Well if you would come and sit down I will explain everything” She replied not letting his stoic mood sway herself.
She walked over to where he was standing gently took hold of his hand as she then lead him over to the lounge where she seated him beside her. She looked over all of us as if trying to gain some sort of composure for what she was about to say.
“Well as you are all aware Satoshi and I broke up about a month ago, whilst we may still appear to be close friends still. Well that is because of a selfish reason on my behalf as I need for us to at least have a civil relationship still”
“Well you two do seem quite close” I added as Satoshi gave me a brief glance
“I wouldn’t say that we are as close as before” he replied turning his attention back to Risa.
She took his hand into hers hesitating for a moment as a look of guilt came into her eyes, she briefly looked over to both Riku and I for support before bringing her attention back to Satoshi.
“Well I have some news that will hopefully shed some light on my reasons” she paused
“And what would that be Risa?” he replied in a stoic tone as he watched her struggle with her emotions
“Because I … Satoshi I’m pregnant with your child” she stammered
The small amount of colour that graced Satoshi’s face disappeared in an instance as he mouthed unspoken words to himself.
“You’re what! But how can that be?” he violently snatched his hands away quickly standing causing her to stumble out of her chair
“No way” Risa exclaimed
“But I can’t…” he gave a desperate look over to me before looking back at Risa
“You can’t be” he whispered as he suddenly left the room
I sat in silent shock my stomach turning as I began to feel queasy, after a moment I could hear the sound of his Vesper which were quickly muffled by Risa’s sudden sobbing.
“What have I done? He’ll never speak to me again” she sobbed the look of heartache spreading across her face
“I’ll go after him” I quickly got up and sprinted out the door after Satoshi
As I came bursting out the door I could see just inside the gate the figure of Satoshi sitting on his bike staring off into no-where.
“Niwa …” as I approached I could see a single tear drop down as he spoke
“Hiwatari you don’t have to run away by yourself” I replied softly as I tenderly wiped away his sole tear
“Let me at least make sure you get home safely” I spoke softly
Satoshi moved forward slightly as I climbed on behind him wrapping my arms around his waist, he body tensing up slightly as our bodies touched.
“Niwa you don’t have to come with me”
“I know but I want to, you’re still one of my closest friends remember” he gave a soft nod as her maneuvered the bike to ride off.
“Thank you Niwa” he replied as we rode off away from the Harada mansion down the winding driveway.
