I think that all went down last night
Finally- Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Kana awoke to a rattling of dishes, looking up groggily she saw a young girl setting a tray on the table by the bed.
“Oh I’m so sorry did I wake you?” She questioned.
“No, no I probably should have gotten up earlier.” Kana whispered sitting up.
“Well here is your breakfast, I must go now.” She bowed before turning to leave.
“Wait, do you work here?” Kana called after her.
“Hai.” The girl nodded.
“Well I’d like someone to talk to.” She whispered before the girl turned to face her. “What’s your name?”
“Naomi.” She whispered solemnly.
“Naomi huh? That’s a pretty name, my name’s Kana.” Kana introduced herself in return.
“Aren’t you the other girl that came from another world?” Naomi questioned enthusiastically.
“So you’ve heard of me.”
“Yeah well nobody can ever keep a secret around here so everything always gets around especially since that harem Nuriko showed up.” Naomi rolled her eyes.
“You think she’s a pain in the ass too huh?” Kana huffed throwing her legs over the side of her bed so they touched the ground.
“Please if you wouldn’t mind would you tell me about your world?” Naomi whispered.
“Well what would you like to hear about it?”
“The sunsets.”
“Well… there’s this one tower, it faces the west and looks over the ocean and if you’re up there on the longest day of the year and the temperature is just right the sunset is beautiful. It’s like standing in the middle of a golden shower with droplets of red and bright orange everywhere. One of the most beautiful things you could ever see.” Kana sighed as Naomi took on a daydreamy look and shut her eyes.
“Wow, the way you describe it, it sounds so wonderful.”
“It is, you know what…” Kana got up and grabbed her purse off of the chair by the door. Searching through it for a moment she finally came across what she was looking for and pulled a postcard out of her purse. “Here.” She handed it to Naomi and she gasped.
“It’s even more beautiful than I imagined.” She sighed. Kana smiled at her.
“Why don’t you keep it, I don’t need it.”
“No, I couldn’t it’s far to beautiful.” Naomi shook her head.
“I insist.”
“Thank you, thank you so much!” Naomi squealed before leaving.
“Okay I’ve done my good deed of the day, time to go back to being a sarcastic little bitch.” She sighed before eating her breakfast in peace, which was delicious. Afterwards she wandered around the veranda for a little while before retiring to the gazebo for some quality time alone. “Okay it’s too quite around here what’s going on?” She wondered getting up and searching for some form of life, finally she found a guard standing outside of Miaka’s room. “Hey you, where are Hotohori and Miaka?” She questioned.
“The priestess of Suzaku has fallen ill, his majesty, Nuriko and Tamahome are all in sitting with her inside.” He whispered.
“Thanks.” She gave a half smile before walking in. ‘Naomi was right nobody can keep a secret in this place.’ She thought walking up next to Tamahome just before Miaka mumbled in her sleep.
“Mother, Keisuke.”
“You do want to go back…” Hotohori whispered.
“To your own world.” Tamahome finished. Hotohori looked up at the three.
“Nuriko, Tamahome.” He listed.
“Sire.” Tamahome and Nuriko said in unison as Kana just looked at him.
“I must speak with you at once.” The four disappeared into a back office. “We’ve got to do something otherwise Miaka may get even worse.” Hotohori whispered.
“Under the circumstances I think we should send her back to wherever she came from your highness.” Nuriko added her not needed two sense.
“You would.” Tamahome retorted.
“However who knows how to accomplish such a feet?” Hotohori propped his elbows up on the desk and rested his hands in front of his mouth. “Ah, Taiitsukun.” He gasped.
“The Taiitsukun?” Tamahome and Nuriko questioned in unison.
“That’s correct, Taiitsukun is the great master whose hermitage is lodged in Mount Tikyoku. It was Taiitsukun who bestowed upon us the book of “The Universe of the Four Gods” and who might know how to send Miaka home back to her own world. Attendants! Heed! Bring me the Universe of the four gods at once!” Hotohori yelled.
“Yes sire!” Two guards responded.
“Sire, what about her?” Nuriko questioned nodding at Kana who was sitting in the corner with her eyes closed, at the mention of her name she opened her eyes but didn’t look up.
“Kana? She’s a warrior now like us.” Hotohori whispered remembering what she had said the night before.
“SHE’S A WHAT???!!!” Tamahome and Nuriko yelled at the same time.
“You heard him I’m a warrior, just because I’m not one of the Suzaku seven doesn’t mean I’m useless you know.” She cocked her head before standing and facing them.
“I didn’t apply that.” Nuriko snapped defensively.
“Whether you want to admit it or not you did. Hotohori can you send someone for me before you leave?” She questioned rhetorically before leaving.
“Why do I have the feeling I was just insulted?” Nuriko muttered under her breath.
*****
Tamahome walked away from the room he had just been in solemnly.
THUD
A table hit Tamahome in the back of the head.
“What’s the big idea acting so upset this whole thing’s your fault for rejecting Miaka!” Nuriko yelled with her foot on the table, which was still on top of Tamahome.
“But out banshee! Who asked you anyways? It’s none of your business!” Tamahome yelled back after springing back to his feet.
“What do you mean none of my business? I have to do something or the emperor will never notice me ever. Listen wise guy you better apologize to her! And than I’ll make the emperor fall in love with me.” Nuriko struck a pose as hearts floated in her eyes.
“AHA! So now the truth comes out!”
“So what you’re no better than me. Was it manly of you to hurt her feelings? And you love Miaka don’t you Tamahome? You should be ashamed of yourself for being jealous of your own emperor.” Nuriko crossed her arms satisfied.
“Jealous huh? Right ha-ha! I haven’t even known Miaka that long so how could I possibly be in love with her? Besides what I happen to love most of all is cold, hard, cash. So you can keep your jealousy all to yourself.” Tamahome turned and walked away as Nuriko looked after him scornfully. Suddenly a small giggle came from behind Nuriko and she turned to see Kana sitting on the railing behind her.
“And what do you find so amusing?” Nuriko raised an eyebrow before Kana looked up at her.
“Nuriko, Nuriko, Nuriko…” She shook her head, “will you ever learn? Boys will be boys…” She looked her up and down. “Well in most cases.”
“What do you mean by that?” Nuriko raised an eyebrow and felt a feeling of dislike towards the girl growing in the pit of her stomach.
“Nothing, Mrs. Doubtfire.” Kana mumbled.
“What was that?” She gritted through her teeth getting annoyed.
“English deary, don’t hurt yourself trying to figure it out.” Kana patted Nuriko on the head before getting up and starting to walk away. Nuriko began to fume and pulled another table out of hammer-space before chucking it at Kana but to her surprise Kana did a roundhouse and kicked the table in two before continuing on her way.
“How did she…” Nuriko pointed a finger at Kana before turning pale.
*****
A little while later outside of the palace the now group of five; Hotohori, Nuriko, Miaka, Tamahome, and Kana all bid farewell to the minister before starting their voyage to Mt. Tikyoku. Soon nighttime fell and Kana watched from a tree as Nuriko tricked Miaka and Tamahome than followed them to watch the show.
“Well so far so good, Miaka’s about to flash Tamahome and find out that Nuriko’s a man but still going good.” Kana mumbled to herself as she watched Hotohori poke at the fire to keep it going. “*Sigh* might as well relax.” She sighed before leaning back but forgot which way she was facing and fell out of the tree and crashed to the ground. “*Ooof* *THUD* OWE!!” Kana moaned as she struggled in the bushes.
“Hey, are you okay?” Hotohori questioned approaching the bush as Kana stood up.
“Oh yeah just perfect thanks for the help… asshole.” She mumbled the last part before taking a seat by the fire and poking it with a stick. “Well they haven’t figured out what courtesy is so I’m amazed they know what fire is.” She grumbled setting the twig down and pulling her knees to her chest and sighing heavily.
“Is something bothering you Kana?” Hotohori questioned reclaiming his spot next to the fire adjacent to Kana.
“No… well yes, ugh I don’t know.” She rolled her eyes.
“Well do you want to talk about it?” He questioned.
“Do you really want to hear about my dreary little life?” She eyed him.
“Well I am interested as to why you don’t want to go back.” Hotohori propped his head up with his elbows on his knees.
“Well in my “world” as you put it I was a loner I took from life what I needed nothing more and nothing less. Everyone shunned me because I was different, I guess they thought because I dressed the way I felt comfortable and spoke the way I felt necessary I was psychotic or something. I moved to Tokyo when I was 15 and met a guy named Dani, he turned into my best friend, took me in off of the streets and helped me get my first book published If Roses Could Sing It was a great hit and made it into the top five two weeks after it was published. I made so much money that I moved into my own place and Dani became my publicist along with being my best friend, well my only friend. I published my second book Hunting Heartache one year later; it too was a great hit. Red Eyes and Dying Cries was the last book I published, last I checked it was at number two out of one-hundred.” She summed before taking a deep breath.
“That doesn’t sound so bad.” Hotohori whispered.
“The whole reason I moved to Japan was to get away from my heartbreak and than the day I came here, before I arrived Dani told me that, that he loved me.”
“What do you mean get away from your heartbreak?”
“Something had happened to my boyfriend back where I was from, but I don’t want to get in to that. But when Dani told me he loved me I couldn’t face him anymore so I left the café we were at and than the next thing I knew I was here.” Kana finished as Hotohori looked at her saddened.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to upset you.” He apologized.
“That’s okay really.” She sat a hand on his shoulder and kneeled next to him.
“Scars upon a time trail cannot be reopened. Anyways thanks for listening goodnight Hotohori.” Swiftly she placed a kiss on his cheek before going to make up her bed. Hotohori placed a hand over his cheek where she had kissed him and watched her as she settled herself.
“Hearts of such a sweet nature should not be hidden under such bitter shadows.” He sighed to himself.
“I heard that!” Kana moaned sleepily.
“I… uh… *heh, gulp* you did?” He stuttered.
“Goodnight Hotohori.” Kana sighed before drifting into a peaceful slumber.
*****
The next day the five continued on their voyage and soon found themselves in the middle of a heavy fog spell. Tamahome and Miaka had been ahead of Nuriko, Hotohori and Kana when Tamahome came walking back towards the three by himself.
“Tamahome where is Miaka?” Hotohori questioned the blue haired man as he looked at them guiltily.
“The fog got thick and she…uh… disappeared.” He stuttered.
“Disappeared? Now that’s original.” Kana rolled her eyes.
“Do you know something we don’t?” Nuriko questioned.
“Well moron child here pulled a no brainer.” Kana nodded at Tamahome.
“What, uh what do you mean?” He questioned sweating.
“Let me see, oh yeah now I remember tell me if I get this right Tamahome. Well maybe if you had bigger breasts and looked more like a woman I would have noticed.” She took a deeper tone to her voice so she could imitate Tamahome.
“You said that to her???” Nuriko growled.
“Well… I, uh you see it… um you know she kind of… but she and I uh… oh shit.” He stuttered before hanging his head.
“Not only does he have no common decency he’s illiterate too.” Kana mocked.
“You two can continue this later but for now we have to find Miaka.” Hotohori demanded before some bushes rattled and Miaka came walking out calm as can be.
“Oh look there’s precious.” Kana muttered before walking off. Kana watched as Miaka made Nuriko run off and led Hotohori away from Tamahome. “Oh shit.” She whispered realizing that she wasn’t Miaka.
“Who are you and where is the real Miaka?” Hotohori demanded with his sword drawn.
“*Cackle* why she’s right here.” Miaka, quote unquote held a mirror out towards Hotohori and Tamahome who had joined Hotohori as a bright light engulfed them. Kana sat in a tree above watching and willing herself not to interfere.
”I can’t, I know I shouldn’t… ah but I can’t stand by and watch him get hurt. She whispered to herself before jumping from the tree and landing in a crouch next to the monster. Pulling a round house she knocked the monster on its back sending the mirror flying through the air, Kana went to kick it so it would crash into a tree but Miaka’s hidden half grabbed her ankle and knocked her to the ground on her stomach. “Let *kick* go of *kick* me *kick*” She spat kicking the monster in the face before it let go. She rolled on her shoulder and landed in a squat picking up the mirror along the way. “Looking for this?” Kana mocked holding it up as the monster stood. At Kana’s touch of the mirror the spell that had been holding Hotohori and Tamahome in place was lifted.
“Give that back to me you little wench!”
“Oooh, wrong answer, hey Hotohori catch.” She threw the mirror to Hotohori and he caught it before looking at her confused.
“What am I supposed to do with it?” He questioned.
“Smash it you… ah.” Kana gasped as the monster grabbed her tightly by her throat and suspended her in mid-air.
“Put it down or I’ll kill her.” It demanded.
“Kana.” Hotohori whispered faintly before throwing it on the ground.
“Good now back away…” Hotohori and Tamahome backed up. “Good you obeyed so I won’t kill her.” The monster threw Kana into a tree. The next thing anybody knew a large boulder landed on top of the monster killing it, taking the advantage Tamahome stepped on the mirror and smashed it.
“I knew something fishy was going on.” Nuriko claimed jumping off of the cliff he had been standing on and joining the others on the ground.
“Kana.” Hotohori gasped at seeing the large laceration on the side of the girls’ neck that was bleeding horribly. A moment later Miaka appeared in front of the others on her knees the broken piece of a plate in her hands ready to stab herself with it.
“Miaka what are you doing?” Tamahome demanded taking the plate chunk from Miaka and kneeling in front of her.
“Well I figured if she was me than if I killed myself you guys wouldn’t get hurt anymore.” She whispered before Tamahome gathered her in his arms.
“Never try anything like that again, promise me.” He whispered.
“I promise, I’m sorry.” Miaka apologized.
“Ugh, my neck.” Kana groaned sitting up. “Awe man.” She sighed looking at the blood on the hand that she had just taken from her neck before tearing off part of her shirt and wrapping it around her neck.
“Kana are you okay?” Hotohori questioned kneeling next to her.
“What were you thinking!?” She yelled standing up, Hotohori joined her on his feet and looked at her confused.
“What do you mean?” He questioned.
“Why didn’t you break the goddamn mirror like I told you too? God I knew I should have given the mirror to Tamahome at least he has a spine!” She threw her hands in the air.
“Really and I don’t?”
“No you don’t all you are is a… you know what I’m not even gonna go there you might cry.” She cocked her head and Hotohori raised an eyebrow.
“Please enlighten me.” He whispered.
“Alright I think you’re a spoiled little conceded jerk with no life. You live in the shadows of everyone else’s beliefs and have no thoughts of your own. You shun people out because you believe they are petty or simple minded but the only simple minded one is you Hotohori! You believe you love Miaka but you even told her that you don’t love her you love the priestess of Suzaku. You want a bird for your wife I bet the town would get a kick out of that! I bet you wouldn’t know real love if it bit you on the ass, let alone how to stop indulging yourself in your own goddamn reflection. Yep that’s definitely one glorious life you have there, Emperor of Konan the town full of rapists and slave sellers but don’t worry you can raise your kids safely here knowing they won’t be virgins by the time they’re ten. Well what does the emperor do about this you ask? Well he sits on the high and mighty stick up his ass staring at himself in the mirror complimenting himself because he’s too afraid of what people really think of him!” Kana yelled as Hotohori shrunk back as if the verbal assault had hit him physically.
“Is that really what people think of me?” Hotohori whispered.
“No I just said it for the hell of… it.” Kana whispered the last part when she noticed they were no longer in the woods.
“Miaka you have proven how much you care for these four of your guardians so I welcome you here priestess of Suzaku.” A shadow appeared in front of them on the steps before a haggish old woman came into focus.
“It’s king Tuts grandmummy.” Miaka whispered pointing at the woman.
“Do you want me to remove your ability to eat? Who do you think you’re calling King Tuts grandmummy?” The hag questioned getting in Miaka’s face.
“Are you Taiitsukun?” Nuriko questioned.
“Than this must be, Mt. Tikyoku.” Hotohori whispered.
“Yes, we will go to my palace.” Taiitsukun said before the five floated up on a small pink square.
“I hope we don’t fall off this rug.” Nuriko wined as they flew over the vast mountain.
“People with evil thoughts just see barren rock but you have my permission of passage, this is my home Mt. Tikyoku.” Taiitsukun stated before they landed in a large room. “Everyone sit around Miaka.” She demanded before Kana stepped foreword.
“Taiitsukun I want to help.” Kana insisted standing between Nuriko and Tamahome.
“You’re too weak to do anything.” Nuriko insisted referring to her wound.
“I don’t care Taiitsukun…” Kana looked at the hag determined.
“I shall permit this.” Taiitsukun nodded as Kana took a seat between Tamahome and Nuriko before they all focused their power on Miaka and she disappeared. The five sat there for a moment taking in what had just happened before Kana doubled over in pain.
“Sspt… owe.” She whispered leaning on her hand to stop herself from hitting the ground.
“Kana are you okay?” Tamahome questioned reaching to put a hand on her back.
“Don’t touch her!” Taiitsukun yelled before the small girl with green hair appeared.
“Get back, please get back.” Kana choked before screaming in agony. “My body, it’s burning.” She whispered before a demon appeared.
“What the hell is that thing?” “She’s been possessed by a demon!” Tamahome and Nuriko yelled at the same time.
“Lai-lai now!” Taiitsukun commanded before a bright light engulfed Kana, so bright it forced everyone else to cover their eyes. The light soon dimmed out and Kana floated in front of them in a white bubble type orb, her clothing was now a school uniform, a long blue skirt down to her knees, black nylons and brown shoes. A blue shirt that matched the skirt, a red sash tied under her collar that hung down in a knot and now her hair was braided in long pigtails.
“What happened?” Hotohori whispered.
“She was possessed by a demon, Lai-lai used her holy powers to save her.” Taiitsukun explained before the bubble popped and Hotohori caught Kana before she hit the ground.
“Kana?” He whispered before she looked up at him groggily.
“Hotohori? *SMACK* PERVERT!” She yelled before smacking him to make him let go, Hotohori went sailing across the room.
“Kanashimi.” Taiitsukun yelled before Kana turned to face the old haggish woman. “I have restored your life because you are required to find your place in this journey but you must do it on your own, take care everyone.” Taiitsukun’s voice echoed before the palace disappeared and the others found themselves back in the fore
