3. Reflection Divine
“Goodbye Matsuda.” L flipped the cell shut and
looked up at Light whose hands were currently decorating his
shoulders and all he could do was grin.
“He has an inkling.” L said, mainly because he
had nothing else to say, that and Light was violating his personal
space with a sappy grin. His thumb ran over the shell of his phone as
he permitted his pocket to swallow it.
“Doesn’t he always?“ Knuckles kneaded gently
along L’s shoulders as L’s suspicious eyes hid behind
long lashes while he listened to Light breath. “You plan on
going out tonight?” Soft eyelashes fluttered against Light’s
shirt as he looked up at the teen questioningly. “I only say
that because you were looking out the window.” L’s smile
was faint and he nodded. Light would have made an excellent profiler,
his observational skills were horrifyingly faultless.
“Yes, I thought we might go out together, but now with
Matsuda and the others questioning your death I don’t think it
would be the brightest idea.” Light placed a sturdy finger
beneath L’s chin and shifted his head sideways as he leaned in.
What had brought about the sudden change in the teen’s
behaviour? Sometimes it seemed as if he were dealing with an entirely
different being than the one before him. He wasn’t sure who
would play this act more, Light or Kira. Whatever the answer he felt
the two were split beings fighting for control of one body. Light’s
mouth fell against L’s ear as he whispered, “I can kill
those detectives. I can make them leave you alone.”
L whispered back, "So can I." He scarcely felt the smirk
that lit up against his ear.
-Two days later-
L did not employ the most brilliant of people, Light thought as
the snatched freshly printed papers from the fax machine. Sure they
did what they were hired to do, in fact they did it better than
anyone else in their field. That was why L had employed them, but
they all tunnel vision, motivated by money and that was one huge
downfall.
The young Yagami had secretly contacted Wedy speaking to her using
that stupid voice changer of L‘s. She asked no questions as to
why he was disguising his voice, but if she had he would have been
fully prepared and capable of supplying a believable answer. Her
concerns lay elsewhere, she wanted details on the job and how much
she would be paid. Wedy seemed to be the only one of L’s
contacts who could answer a few of the questions dangling in his
mind. Besides, who could resist the vast amount of money he was
offering, definitely not her.
The story was simple, L never knew his birth parents and he needed
to find out who they were for personal reasons. The reasons didn’t
matter to her she had one job and one job only. Light on the other
hand wanted to find out because he was sick of the detective having
an ace up his sleeve. He demanded she dig up any information she
could on his parents. Unfortunately the search did not yield much,
this he concluded while flipping through one measly page Wedy had
faxed and two from the hospital which were for later. There seemed to
be no traceable information on his father and his Mother’s
information was almost as useless.
“Whatcha’ got?” Ryuk asked looking over the
teens shoulder. Light twirled the chair around staring down at the
paper, then back to the shinigami.
“This is confidential information Ryuk.” Light
frowned. “Hospital papers concerning my death.” Ryuk
looked very bored and floated further away to escape any boring
explanation. He was halfway between the walls when Light threw an
apple his way and he disappeared completely.
“Lenore.” How nice, what a elegant name Light thought.
He read down farther only to discover nothing of interest. They had
no confirmed age for her or place of residence, but there was
something that sparked his curiosity and lit Kira‘s itchy
writing hand on fire. Lenore Lawliet lived outside the law, she was a
felon of the worse kind.
-o-
Standing there, head sloping lazily to the side, he eyed the
blurry reflection in his mirror trying to decipher if it was him or
Light as cryptic words echoed from it‘s surface. “I
won’t stop following you, now help me pray for the death of
everything new.” The distorted shape was electric like static
as it faded in and out of focus, extending a blurry hand to him. “If
you sting me I won’t mind.” The feeling was magnetic as
his arm pulled from his side connecting with the shadowy shape. He
felt the sides of his mouth stretch into a warped grin as the
reflection’s eyes before him ignited ruby red, and they crashed
together, infecting each other. “Now we’re the virus…”
1
Opaque eyes opened cautiously locking onto his reflection in the
computer screen. He parted chapped lips and licked across dull teeth,
examining everything he tried repress. The detective licked his dry
lips making them shine in the artificial light of the lamp then
flashed his teeth once again, tongue flicking back and forth over the
smooth enamel. “We’re the virus.” he said
tonelessly to his reflection and his reflection said it back to him.
Slipping in and out of the dream world had him questioning his
moments in consciousness. Were these things that in fact happened,
yet he didn’t remember? A finger brushed lightly over his lips.
Then again, before he welcomed the crazy in his head with open arms
he could welcome the truth. It was a dream nothing more, nothing
less. Truth was simple, of course he knew it had all been
false, an apparition inside his head, but the way the words crawled
over his skin made it feel all to real.
“Bad dream?” asked the shinigami that had unexpectedly
appeared behind him. Pale fingers played with the skin at his lip
mere moments before he started typing, eyes crawling over the words
on the screen. “Not talking to me, eh?” Ryuk laughed
floating closer to the detective. “I saw you last night.”
L did not react to the words instead he flipped open his phone
casually dialing a number. The death god took a bite out his apple as
he watched L put the phone to his ear.
“Do you have a location?” He asked the mysterious
person on the other end while accidentally biting through the skin of
the thumb on his lips. He pulled the appendage away staring at it
before closing his eyes and licking at the crimson liquid.
“Thank-you.” The phone clicked closed and disappeared
somewhere into his jeans.
“I followed you.” Ryuk continued as if he had
never been ignored, tossing the apple core next to L which the
detective abruptly flicked into the trash with a false smile.
“Why Ryuk, I’m flattered.” The shinigami hyuk-ed
throwing his head back as L continued his research.
“I saw you.” He said instead as if L had
misunderstood the first few times. The fingers currently stabbing at
the keyboard halted, his hands fell from the keys, one to the arm of
the chair, the other to his bent knee. Pallid fingers gripped
crushingly against jean clad skin and the pliant rubber arm of his
chair. In one swift motion his body turned facing Ryuk as he tried
breathing in controlled breaths when he spoke. “What is it that
you want?”
“You need to come clean, there are rules.” The
shinigami threatened and the detective glared upon the death god.
“Those rules do not apply to me.” He nearly hissed,
his eyes black as unseen earth.
“They apply to all humans.”
“As I said, they do not apply to me.”
The death god moved closer, peering into that infinite chasm of
darkness, L was right, there was nothing human there, oddly enough
Ryuk was impressed just as he was frustrated.
“There is something or someone that can kill you. No
one is invincible, not even gods of death.” L smiled the death
grip on his leg loosening.
“Really? Is there?” He paused inhaling a
breath. “Light told you this?” L knew it could be none
other than Light, the shinigami could have never come to this
conclusion on his own. “You’ve informed him about the
details of our deal?” There was a nod from Ryuk that could
barely be considered movement at all. They had no way to kill him,
Light was merely grasping at straws obviously perplexed by the
situation at hand.
“I think he will be even more interested to know what you
were doing last night.” Sharp nails clawed at his thighs as he
clenched long fingers closed in efforts to calm himself. Slowly he
stood to his feet stuffing his hands in his pockets as he leaned into
Ryuk’s space.
“Light may be your undoing after all.” Grinning
morosely he walked away from the speechless shinigami.
Not trusting his hands he kicked the door to his room open and was
not that taken aback to find Light sitting on his bed. Fitting oddly
perfect in L’s room, like a non-compliant missing puzzle piece
smashed into a foreign space. L noticed he was clutching a piece of
paper in his hand. “Did you get lost?” The young Yagami
looked up meeting L’s gaze and patted the space next to him. L
rolled his eyes but silently obeyed, sitting on the bed next to his
Light. His Light. He wanted nothing more than for that to be
true. Where the young Yagami was concerned he was often lead by his
heart but knew better than to dream foolishly as love often had
people do. His eyes flickered quickly over Light’s profile
noticing the little creases by his eyes and lips. Light was in a good
mood, possibly a non-Kira mood.
“It seems as though someone doesn't trust the great
detective.” Light’s eyes sparkled with eerie delight as
he placed the piece of paper on L’s bended knees. The detective
examined it with mild amusement. His fingers barely touching the
paper, eyes sifting through the words noticing it was received via
fax. "The results of the forensics test." Light smiled
handsomely. "I just got off the phone with one Bianna Adams. She
said the body of Yagami, Light was confirmed as none other than
Yagami, Light, DNA and all." L nodded handing the paper back. He
didn’t ask how he got that information from Miss Adams. He was
sure Light used L as his alias which would have been a sight
to behold. Light acting like him, or acting how he think he would
act. It was highly possible L would pay to witness something like
that.
"It is good that we successfully acquired the surveillance
tapes then, isn‘t it?" Light stared blankly at L and L
stood moving to one of his drawers in the absurdly barren room, but
when two minutes passed and Light was still staring, the detective
had to raise a thumb to his mouth. “Did you need something?”
Light’s eyes tapered dangerously low as if trying to hide the
violent images playing behind those eyes but L saw them just as
easily as he saw Light before him. If he was supposed to be disturbed
he was not.
“That’s all you have to say?”
“That is all, yes.” L pulled produced a shirt and
jeans from his drawer.
“Someone’s on to you- to us… and you‘re
pleased enough to know you have some surveillance tapes?” L
tossed the clothes onto his bed and stared up at the ceiling for a
second before looking back to Light.
“We’ve crossed one bridge, now you expect me to burn
it?” He shook his head making a face that easily read: don’t
you get it.
“What bridge? The Tota Matsuda bridge?” The sarcasm
was draped beautifully with the matching of upturned lips that was
supposed to represent something pleasant but only served to be
unnerving. “Is that even possible, is he even capable?”
“Apparently he is capable enough. I do doubt he is behind
this. In fact I believe someone tipped him off.”
“Oh! That doesn’t raise a huge red flag in your mind?
Kira is confirmed dead yet someone is desperately out to prove you
wrong. Who would want to do something like that?” L shrugged
and Light grit his teeth. “That is why I think we need to
figure out who is behind this and stop them.” L knew stop
them was actually code for find out their names and write them in
the death note. He was not disillusioned L understood the man in
front of him was Kira, and Light. There was no changing that, not
now, not with the notebook in his possession and possibly not ever.
“That is the difference between you and I.” Light sat
there his arms crossing as he waited for L to continue. “You
inject yourself far more than need be.” L ran a hand through
his messy hair. “The body was found to be a match. For me to
care anymore than that is suspicious.” The young Yagami eased a
hand through his own hair hiding a disgruntled look.
“Maybe so, but it seems as though you‘ve slipped up
some place.” They looked at each other for far to long a time
and when Light was just about to lose it L held his hands up.
“I’m afraid Light-kun has caught me. My head is not at
all in this game.” Not in the game? Where would the detectives
head be? It was always in the game, always on the case. What could be
so important it would drag his mind away from that? L translated all
of that through Light’s features, the way he looked at L said
it all.
“What have you been working on this whole time?”
“Not the Kira case, that is closed.” The teen made an
exasperated face and tried not to frown. L‘s features softened
as he tried again. “I am a detective. I have many cases to work
on.”
“Is that so?” Light threaded his fingers. “Then
you don’t mind sharing some details. I could help you.”
The spindly creature, perched on his chair donned his serious face,
which was a lot like his normal face.
“I am sorry that is confidential. You are still Kira.”
“And you allowed me to be.” It felt so good
when Light stroked his ego.
“I did.” L said simply his hands moving to the ends of
his shirt. The detective licked his lips as he rolled the end of the
fabric around his fingers.
“Are you that bored you need to catch me again.” L
paused for a moment fingers still swimming in his clothes and his
head slipping to the side slightly.
“I can not catch what I already have.” He smirked and
Light’s cheeks flushed. “Are you finished interrogated me
now? May I change?” The teen shrugged and leaned back on the
bed catching his head with his hands.
“What is it that you are changing for?” Light’s
arm snaked over the comforter to L’s shirt and he fisted it.
“I’m going out.” L said pulling the shirt up and
flipping it off. He held out his hand and Light tossed him the clean
shirt.
“Out?” He smiled his free hand seizing L’s
jeans. “Can I come?” It sounded so much like the Light
before Kira, so innocent.
“Light is playing a game with me.” He was unbuttoning
his pants now, unzipping them slowly, then using both hands to spread
them open. He stopped and stared at Light who was still holding his
jeans.
“You go out every night.” He said sitting up and
staring straight at L‘s crotch. L’s fingers playing with
the opening of his jeans as he watched Light watch him.
“I do?”
“Now who is playing a game?”
“Certainly not I.” L smiled holding a hand out for the
jeans.
“No. You have to remove those first before you get new
ones.”
“Light is being difficult.” L pushed his pants down
and kicked them off. Revealing the same pale skinny legs Light had
seen not that long ago when they were chained together.
“I am no-” The young Yagami paused then stood to his
feet, walking closer to the now suspicious detective, his eyes
zeroing in on L’s right leg. “What happened?” L
looked down with raised eyebrows, but the look faded when he saw the
huge bruise forming around the upper thigh and knee area. “You’re
bleeding.” He examined closer and noticed that indeed he was,
although it was not a lot of blood and it was barely visible at that.
Then, out of nowhere, like a bullet to the head there was a foreign
feeling exploding through him. Light’s fingers were gently
tracing the bruise, touching with genuine interest. “We should
get this cleaned up.”
L shook his head and strode quickly to the bed where his jeans
were abandoned and slipped them on. “I’m fine.”
“You obviously don’t know what fine is.” Light
was moving closer to L now he placed a hand on the detectives
shoulder and L did nothing. “You didn’t answer me. How
did it happen?” The pale one shook his head. “Did Ryuk do
that?” L looked up completely shocked. Would the shinigami
dare, did Light think it was possible? If he asked then he obviously
did think so. Had the death god said something about hurting him to
Light? Most importantly was that anger and concern in his eyes? Anger
at Ryuk and concern for him? L eventually shook his head and
reluctantly opened his mouth to speak, wishing for a brief moment he
could say yes Ryuk did this just so he could see Light’s
reaction. But that was too dangerous a game to play, so he didn’t.
“I did it.”
“Why?”
“I was angry.”
“About?”
“It no longer matters. Now if you will release my shoulder I
would like to leave.” Light removed his hand and scooted out of
L’s way still looking very concerned.
“Where are you going?”
“For a walk.”
“Don’t forget your shoes.” He could hear the
smile in Light’s voice as he left his room. He slipped on his
shoes feeling more perplexed than ever, he and Light had such
explosive moments together he wasn't sure how they always seemed to
be starting over from the same point.
-o-
Light closed his room door, flinging himself into the chair before
his desk, the death note was blinding as the sun engulfing his
vision, and clouding his mind. Long fingers traced the edges of the
black book as he clicked the television on, gathered a pen in one
hand and opened the book. His fingers twitched with an excitement he
hadn’t felt in weeks and he licked his lips. There was a list
of criminals stored in his head from the past week, but at the top of
that list was one Lenore Lawliet. He craved for nothing more than his
pen bleeding her name on the instrument of her untimely death, but as
pen touched paper he faulted, the pads of his fingers assaulting his
scalp in frustration. “Fuck!” He could not be so hasty,
she wasn’t to be used like this, not yet. Light had to play
this game right, reveal his findings with an element of surprise. “L,
you fucking bastard, keeping me here like some trophy. Kira is no
one’s prisoner. God will not be stopped!” How much longer
must he wait to begin ? How much longer until he achieved his goals
and sat upon a throne that would rightfully be his? He shook his
head. “It’s too soon.” The words were like a dull
knife in his heart. Not being able to execute his role as God felt
crippling. He had to put it into perspective, Kira had died only a
couple of weeks ago, how would it look for the heart attacks to start
up again? Those bothersome cops with the bumbling Matsuda leading the
way would only investigate L further, which meant he would be
compromised. Besides that, someone was clinging to the belief he
never died. Killing criminals with Kira’s methods would only
prove them correct… but when he found out who they were
all it would do in the end is prove them dead.
He would kill everyone who had been on the investigation team if
they continued to interfere with his plans. Even if they didn’t
he would kill them anyway. This time around no one would get in his
way. He lay his head down on the desk, hair partially covering the
note. Fucking stupid moronic cops, always ruining his plans. They
would see in time how much Kira was needed. How safe he made the
people of the world feel. Light closed his eyes as he imagined
writing the names Tota Matsuda, Shuichi Aizawa and, Kanzo Mogi in his
notebook and smiled as he fell deeper into sleep.
The walls were falling apart, crumbling like children’s
blocks…or broken dreams. Dreams fallen captive to nightmares.
He walked down a dank depressing corridor, through a door, to an
empty room. He stood there for a moment before walking through
another door, then another, and another. In the last room there was a
man in a suit facing wall length cracked windows, his back to Light.
“ I am absolute power, absolute death, absolute hunger,
absolute breath.” The man turned slowly greeting Light with a
superlative smile and the young Yagami saw he was staring at himself.
The creature lured him with red eyes, deadly and intense, kidnapping
his attention with his own face. Light was in awe. The man before him
was destruction in a suit, moving without motion, words bleeding from
perfect lips. “My Light…” The teen stiffened at
the words.
“I want you,” spoke his reflection as he moved
closer with hands outstretched. Fingers greeted his face with a
caress and a kiss. Light was frozen beneath the touches of his own
hand. His double moved closer yet, his face breathing Light’s
breath as noses touched. “Only you.” Without permission
his double’s tongue flicked over his lips, kissing him.
“...devour you.” The hot words melted in his mouth as the
floor beneath him began to collapse and he felt his knees buckle.
“You’re too weak.” Laughed his reflection as he
fell in the darkness pages of the death note flitting across his
vision and with every sheet of paper that flipped, his name: Yagami,
Light was written neatly in rubescent ink across the bleached white
surface. He was being stripped of himself being left with nothing but
Kira. As the book closed he hit the ground with a sick crack. The
teen groaned to himself as he rolled onto his back.
He was not weak!
Pulling himself to his feet he stared up into the hole from
which he fell as rage seized him. He felt invaded, betrayed, not
weak. Catching a frightening glance of himself in a piece of broken
glass, eyes as red as blood he realized no, he wasn’t weak, not
at all. He stretched his arms above himself as he grabbed on to loose
pieces of the wall and climbed his way back to his reflection. When
his feet finally hit broken ground his reflection was gone, replaced
by L. The detective turned and eyed him with such unique fascination,
an addictive fascination only L’s eyes could create. They
created it only for him. “My Kira, I want you.” L said
his back slouched as he walked closer. “Only you.” Light
closed his eyes and shook his head and when he opened them again he
was staring at himself. “I will devour you.”
Light’s door was like the slit of a attenuated eyelid,
parted enough for light from the television to spill through onto his
toes. He uncurled the fist that was seemingly glued to the doorknob,
extending long fingers and pushing the door open fully. Light was at
his desk, back bent much like L’s as he was slumped over in
sleep. L watched, standing there in the doorway, eyes admiring the
rise and fall of the teen’s shoulders. His head was tossing and
turning, incoherent words leaving his mouth as the side of his face
found the shelter of the ever-present death note. The detective
loosely pondered what it would be like for Light if he, L did not
exist, but quickly realized it was a useless thought as the end
result was him standing in this room, thinking this very thought
because he did in fact exist.
Leisurely, he walked into the room stopping at the foot of the
bed, one of his hands falling to the comforter below as he pulled the
thick blankets down. The flash of yellow from the corner caught his
attention for only a moment before looking away. Ryuk was watching
over Light like some demented angel. L ignored him, walking over to
the teen his hand gliding up his back to reach that distressed face.
Pale fingers swam carefully through Light’s hair moving it out
of the teen’s face and eyes. He briefly wondered if it was him
or Kira causing Light’s nightmares. L let his pale fingers
caress the soft skin of Light’s cheek gliding smoothly over his
lips. Without warning Light’s hand shot up and wrapped around
L’s wrist his eyes snapping open as he gasped for breath,
sitting upright. “Wake up.” Light said to L and
the eyes staring back at him were blank almost without guilt
and the raven haired man shook his head.
“I’m not asleep.” L stated matter of fact-like
as he watched the teen before him slump forward falling back into the
desk and L pushed him against the back of the chair all the while
Ryuk watched him with round unblinking eyes. He put his arms
underneath Light’s wrapping them around his back as he pulled
the sleeping teen from the chair and into his arms. “Light-kun
is very heavy.” He said to no one in particular while carrying
Light to his bed and flicking the television off along the way. L
placed the young Yagami on his mattress pulling the blankets up and
over Light. The teen curled into himself falling back into his fitful
slumber. The detective moved his face closer to the teen’s
whispering, “I dreamt we were on one accord, it was terrifying
and I wanted it.” In that dream Light had loved him, wanted
him, and corrupted him. In return he corrupted Light. L’s hand
swept through Light’s hair one last time before he stood to his
feet and left the room.
-o-
Light stared at his computer screen jotting criminals names down
on a napkin, the death note only finger tips away from him. L admired
the fluidness of his writing arm. It was graceful and flawless. His
hand swept over the napkin with the kind blind ambition a person with
a god-complex would have. The pen practically sliced through the soft
imitation of paper with each dramatic stroke. There was also the way
his eyes never seemed to leave the screen as he wrote, those
beautiful lashes barely shut as they absorbed the names before them.
It was those entrancing deceitful eyes that nearly rendered him
brainless much of the time. "I wonder what it is like to see
what your eyes do." L marveled rhetorically. The teen stilled in
his writing for only a second before scribbling across the soft
surface again an amused smirk on his face.
"They see much like yours L." The pen went to his lips
as if to hide the smile behind it and then he spoke again. “I
won’t stop. I can‘t.” He confessed and L was
sure Light wasn’t saying this to absolve past sins, but
possibly to pave way for his future.
“You haven’t started.” He nodded toward Light‘s
makeshift paper, writing a persons name on a napkin wasn’t
exactly a crime.
“I will, when the time is right.”
“The time will never be right.” His eyes went from the
napkins to Light’s. “Starting today would be the same as
starting a year from now. If you are biding your time you bide it for
nothing.” “There is a difference in waiting today
than waiting a year from today, it isn’t the same.”
“It is. It always will be. People think Kira is dead now if
a mass wave of heart attacks suddenly hit’s the population what
will people think, even if it was months from now? Besides that
Light-kun I didn't give the notebook back so you could begin
murdering again.” Light gave L an odd almost knowing look that
tried to strip away his hidden layers.
“Then why did you give it back to a so-called megalomaniac?
Was it so I could keep a journal or maybe play hangman?” He
wrote another name on the napkin then another. “It seems
detective that you and I have a different perception of what murder
is.”
“You are killing people with your own form of justice to
bring about a world with you as God. Tell me where my perception went
astray.”
“These people are killing themselves. If they choose to
participate in criminal activity, then they have chosen their method
of death. They know Kira exists, it would be foolish to think they
were immune.” He shot L a jaded look. “Except of course
for you. You’re special.”
“Hmm.” He said ignoring the latter of Light’s
statement. “What of the innocent people who choose to oppose
Kira and his law?”
“You are hardly innocent.” Light winked and L picked
up a sugar cube pinching it between his fingers.
“I was not speaking of myself.” The cube of sugar was
inserted between his lips where it vanished. “I returned the
notebook to revive you.” There was swift intake of air as the
pen fell from rigid fingers and Light’s hands crumbled into
fists breaking painfully against the table’s splintered
surface. There were times it seemed when Light was lost to Kira, his
eyes became distant and dark allowing the cold dictator to take over.
There were times when he couldn't fight his way through all of the
evil, and now was slowly becoming one of them as he tried to sift
through his sanity to the surface. "You did this out of pity?”
He scoffed. “I lost nothing except my freedom.” L found
himself giving Light his full attention becoming sickly attracted to
his anger and those cold loveless eyes.
“No, you lost Kira.”
“Kira and I, we are one in the same." There was a hard
smack against L’s knee causing his leg to straighten and fall
into Light’s grasp as he was yanked closer to the psycho.
“I disagree.”
“You disagree?” Light asked his hand rubbing along L’s
thigh, pushing the baggy jeans up. A too warm hand connected with
cold skin his fingers lingering slowly over the spot where a bruise
should have been but was no longer there. Light said nothing just
looked at L, his eyebrow raised, and a small smile on his face. “L,
Kira is a name the internet world made up.” His thumb was
licking at his skin hungrily rubbing over that un-bruised knee.
“Yet you let it have power over you as if he exists
separately.”
"We are not two separate entities." Light’s
fingers searched L’s skin frantically for evidence of the
aborted bruise only to come up with nothing but more pale unblemished
skin.
"So you would have me think-"
"Why the fuck would I want you to think that?" L
snatched his leg out of Light’s grasp, grabbing the teen and
practically throwing him into his lap. His face pressed against
Light’s, L’s mouth messily climbing his cheek. "I
can not predict chaos."
“Kira is structure, not chaos.” Light turned his head
so their lips were touching now and he breathed out shakily as L
breathed in licking a trail from Light’s ear to his neck and
his mouth froze there, lips caressing a throbbing vein.
“What is Light? Because he just referred to Kira as
something separate to him again. Without Kira, without the
notebook, who are you? Light is just a one man army, losing a
battle." Light’s breath hitched in his throat as he let
his head fall back, the detectives mouth covering the jugular as he
sucked hard.
“Y- you… are one to talk, a man that does not die,
whose bruises heal in a matter of hours… I watch you L, closer
than you may think.” L’s teeth were scraping against the
teens skin one of his arms wrapped around Light’s waist keeping
him there.
“You want to understand?” he asked moving his head so
his eyes could meet Light’s his free hand tangling in the teens
hair then rubbing his ear between his forefinger and thumb.
“I want to understand.” He kissed Light’s ear
and smiled against it.
“You will.”
-o-
“Light-kun is bored.” The ’bored’ teen
flipped a pencil between his fingers unblinking, cold eyes moving to
L’s face. The detective was looking somewhere between his neck
and shoulder with those lingering dark eyes that absorbed everything
like a black hole. L smoothly averted his gaze, turning the computer
screen in Light’s direction, who eyed it with feigned
disinterest. Light dramatically tilted his head, hair falling to the
side pretending it such a chore for him to stare at a computer
screen. The truth was he desperately wanted to know what the
detective had been working on so diligently, but now… after
learning of Lenore, he had a clue. It made sense why he hadn’t
wanted Light to be a part of it, as the detective offered him every
other case he wasn’t working on. “This is the case I’ve
been working on-”
“I’ve noticed.” The teen said vaguely reading
through a few paragraphs. L unwrapped a piece of candy placing it in
his sweet deprived mouth.
“I wasn’t finished. That is the case I have been
working on for the past eleven years.” Another piece of candy
was inserted to the seemingly bottomless cavern of that mouth. Light
stared at him with wide eyes.
“Eleven years?” The detective nodded. “How old
were you eleven years ago?” L rolled the candies around in his
mouth then licked at his lips.
“I don’t see how that would matter one way or
another.” Light shook his head of course it mattered it would
tell him just how old the detective was now.
“It’s just- weren’t you young?”
“Fifteen.” He bit down on one of the treats in between
his teeth crunching on it loudly. “Are you concerned for me?
I‘m truly touched.”
“You would like me to be concerned for you, wouldn‘t
you?” L said nothing as Light skimmed through the paragraphs
noting L had suspected this killer of being a woman. The paler of the
two started talking again as Light continued skimming over the case.
“I believe it would be to my advantage if you were to join
me in solving this case. I would like to put it to rest.”
“Yes, of course, but you are going to have to be honest with
me.” L eyed him with a weary smile.
“Whatever do you mean?”
“This is not from the case files, this is something you
typed up, conveniently for me to read. Why?”
“Hmm. Nothing gets past Light-kun.” Such humorless
sarcasm. Light wanted to shove his face through the computer screen
sometimes. “I should have known better than to try and trick
him.”
“Yes, but the question still remains as to why you did it.”
“This case is very unusual-”
“How so?”
“The killer is my Mother.”

A/N - Again thanks to everyone who reviewed. I love you guys!
-Sorry for such choppy chapters but they needed to be written them
this way, lol. Srsly. Now that the secrets are being spilt things
shall begin to move much more smoothly. Right now their relationship
isn’t much of anything but clashes of anger but that will
change.
-To answer some of your questions this is not going to follow the
manga at all. It can't, I started with the last episode thus begins
their AU adventure. As for Matt, Mello, Near they are alive. Will we
get to see them, maybe... Without having to write chapters of
explanation this timeline of events ended much sooner than the
original that is why Light is still considered a teenager in my fic.
Also, Soichiro Yagami is deceased, and so is Amane Misa. Sorry. It
needed to be this way.
-As for Matsuda he is a guy who always happens to be in the right
place at the right time.
