Chapter 3/5

The following Saturday went on like Friday had ended. Sakuraba got up early and made his way through Tokyo –on train again – to that dreaded photo studio where he once again had to pose for Star Burger, since they did not manage to make all of the photos needed the day before. After that he was happy to have a lunch break, but Miracle Itoh hang on his back the whole time, telling him just how much he had to do that day. Doing his best to ignore the small man, Sakuraba hoped that day was going to be better than the last one and he would be out early, well, at least earlier than before. All the time he glanced over nervously to his mobile, wondering when carpenters had off on a weekend day. Judging the way Musashi talked about his job though, he guessed that he would keep on working until the job was done. And that could be… any time.

Sakuraba sighed heavily and chewed unenthusiastically on some ramen, while Itoh kept rambling on and on behind him. His own schedule seemed to be really tight today, so that he probably had no spare time either. Maybe he had to cancel his date anyways… but he was so looking forward to it… Finally an evening that he did not spend at home alone, frantically trying to keep up with the stuff they had at school or falling into his bed, totally exhausted, respectively.

He resolved to be a good boy for the rest of the day, working quickly and effectively with the photographers and not complain at all – not even inwardly – in hopes that he would be able to get off early that day.

Thus it happened. He was all smiles for the rest of the day, adapting quickly to the photographers wishes, making Miracle Itoh see Dollar Signs all over, until he saw that he had one message on his mobile.

Meet me at Deimon Station at 7p.m. if you're free. I'll wait for half an hour. Gen

Sakuraba's stomach did a flip-over, his heart beating very fast all of a sudden and he looked around frantically for a clock, found none and then realized that his mobile also showed him the time. Quickly he snapped it shut, and stared at the numbers displayed.

6:43.

And Deimon was at a whole different part of Tokyo. He needed at least 45 minutes to get there.

'Damn.'

Without any second thought he grabbed his back, checked that everything he needed was in there, yelled some apology into his manager's direction on his way outside and was gone before he could hear the other's complaints. Sakuraba knew that there would be hell to pay the next time they met, but right now, he just wanted some much needed time off.

He tried to map out the fastest way to Deimon, but he had to change trains more than once and he knew that he would not be able to be there on time. So he just hoped that Musashi looked on his cell phone.

I'll be late, please wait another 10 minutes. I'll make up for it, I promise. Haruto

He hit Send as he plopped down in a seat next to an old lady. Then he sighed and closed his eyes for a moment, just to reopen them a moment after, counting the stations he had to travel until he had to change trains.

"…are you late for a date?" he suddenly heard the lady ask beside him, smiling up at him with a toothless smile, as if she knew his darkest secrets.

He promptly blushed and laughed sheepishly. "Ahahaha, you got me there. My date's waiting for me on the other side of the city and is only staying there half an hour... I hope my message arrives."

"Ah, technology is a great thing… When I was young, mobile phones didn't exist… but we still managed to meet each other on time," she told him dreamily. "You know boy, life has become so hectic these days, it's really confusing. When you're old one day, you will know what I mean."

Sakuraba thought of Shin and his inability to use any technical device without breaking it and almost told her that there were still people that were unable to use these handy things, but he just laughed politely and kept staring at the display of his mobile.

Suddenly, he felt it vibrate in his hands and Sakuraba quickly flipped it open, just to see that it was a message from Miracle Itoh who complained about his rude behavior. With a disappointed sigh he flipped the device shut, not even bothering to read the message now. He was in a too good mood to let it be spoiled by that man's complaints.

The old lady kept on telling him about her first love, a sturdy young soldier who died in the ambush at Pearl Harbor in World War 2 and she vowed to stay single afterwards, loving that man so much. He asked her if she really kept her promise then, his curiosity peaked, and she laughed softly.

"Of course not. My husband swept me off my feet so fast that I don't even remember how long we had been going until I was pregnant with his child," she kept on telling her story, smiling almost serenely to herself.

Sakuraba was caught off guard though and he was unable to hold back a gasp. "Really?!"

"Yes," she chuckled. "Now I am on the way to my granddaughter's child, she's turning 3 today. Such a lovely little girl… And so intelligent. She already knows some very complicated Kanji… When I was her age, I wasn't even able to read…"

"That's, interesting," Sakuraba said, really intrigued, but the train was already pulling into the station where he had to get off, so he quickly excused himself and told the old lady to wish her grand-granddaughter a happy birthday from him. The lady thanked him warmly and he waved until the doors closed, then dashed off as fast as he could walk to the next train.

He was lucky, the doors were almost closing when he arrived at the platform, but he managed to slip inside just before the train took off. With another sigh he slipped into the nearest seat and was finally able to check his mobile again.

To his great surprise he found that he had a new message.

Don't worry. I'm a little late myself. Packing up took a little longer than expected. See you then! Gen

A weight so heavy was lifted from Sakuraba's chest that he was sure everybody in the car could hear it. He closed his eyes for a moment and tried to calm his wildly beating heart. This was just a date, nothing more and he should definitely not act like a teenage schoolgirl, even if the man that he was dating was probably the sexiest man alive. (If you did not count Shin…)

Sakuraba sighed again. Just another 30 minutes and he would be at Deimon Station, then he would see just how much this was really going to be.

Musashi already awaited his arrival. He looked different, his hair was longer than Sakuraba remembered it from the time Deimon had challenged Ohjo to a practice match, wilder also though. He was wearing very comfortable looking clothes, completely different to his own stylish ones that he had to wear thanks to that photo shooting from before.

He felt a little awkward at first, but something about that confident smile from the other and the warmth of his voice made his knees go weak when he greeted him.

"Sorry I made you rush over here like that," Musashi apologized with a sheepish gesture, but Sakuraba quickly shook his head.

"You have no idea how much I wanted to get out of photo shooting," he admitted, laughing.

"You had another one today?" Musashi asked, sounding surprised.

"Yes, we weren't able to finish the job yesterday, and there some new ones today, too."

"Although you worked so late yesterday?"

"Well, yes," Sakuraba sighed a little uncomfortably. "I bet you can imagine just how perfectionist some artist are-"

"Yes, I can," Musashi snorted. "…Definitely."

He looked like he wanted to say something else, but then said with a grin, "Let's go, before the couples take away the best spots in the Café I'd like you to take me out to."

Sakuraba blinked, a little confused, but then remembered what Musashi meant and chuckled in response. "It better be good, I haven't eaten anything good the whole day."

"They have the best sandwiches you can imagine… and the best coffee I've ever tasted," Musashi smirked as he started to lead the way.

"I don't like coffee that much," Sakuraba admitted sheepishly as he started to follow the smaller but older looking man. "I like tea better…"

"Well, they have that as well, you will like it, it's a cozy little place," Musashi smiled and Sakuraba believed him everything, only because of that smile. The place could have been totally filthy, but the blond would have followed him everywhere, just because of that smile.

Maybe he was really more than just attracted to this man. Maybe it was… love?
