8018 - Final

It was raining quite heavily. Yamamoto looked at the sky and sighed. When it was raining this heavy and he couldn’t play baseball, he felt a bit down. He took his umbrella out of his bag and opened it. When he was about to step out the shelter at the school’s main entrance, a voice stopped him.

“Yamamoto Takeshi, can I have a word?”

Yamamoto looked at Hibari who was standing at the door with his usual expression. He smiled, “Sure… What is it, Hiba--” His line was cut off when Hibari pushed him suddenly and kissed him.

Yamamoto was shocked at the sudden kiss he dropped his opened umbrella down to the mud. The rain was wetting them both very quickly. Yamamoto kissed him back, deep and full of raw emotions. He held Hibari’s back of the head to deepen the kiss and his other hand was on Hibari’s back. Hibari put his hands on Yamamoto’s shoulder and pulled him even closer.

All their bottled emotions flew out on that single action. It was the first time Hibari showed affection to Yamamoto, and Yamamoto didn’t want it to end quickly. He didn’t want to let it go. If only they didn’t need to breathe…

When they broke the kiss, they looked at each other’s eyes. Even though the rain covered it very well, Yamamoto could see trail of tears running down Hibari’s cheeks. He cupped Hibari’s face in both hands and kissed him again, “I’m sorry, Hibari… I’m sorry…”

Yamamoto hugged Hibari tightly. Hibari nuzzled his face into Yamamoto’s wet clothes and let himself be taken in Yamamoto’s embrace. “Hibari… What’s with Sasagawa’s brother?” “We broke up. What about you and the other herbivore?” “Ahaha… We broke up.”

Hibari pulled back and stared at Yamamoto in disbelief. Yamamoto grinned sheepishly, “I still love you, Hibari…” Hibari bowed his head so that Yamamoto couldn’t see his expression, but Yamamoto could still see the blush to the ears. Hibari muttered something in low voice. “Eh, what’s that, Hibari? I can’t hear you…” The wind was also getting stronger, making it harder for Yamamoto to hear it as well.

“I said I love you too, you idiot!” Hibari shouted and looked away in embarrassment. Yamamoto was silent for a second before he hugged Hibari again, “Hibari… this time, I will definitely never let you gooooo!!!”

Hibari closed his eyes and just relaxed at Yamamoto’s hug. He recalled when he was with Ryouhei this morning. “Hey, Hibari… What do you think of me?” asked Ryouhei. Hibari was confused how to answer that question.

Ryouhei scratched his head, “I mean… I’m just a substitute, right?” Hibari didn’t answer it. Ryouhei continued, “And you don’t look extremely happy when you’re with me… Sure you could stand living next to me… but that’s not really what you want, right?”

Hibari frowned, “Ryouhei, what exactly do you want to say?” Ryouhei inhaled deeply, “If you have to choose between me and him, what will you do?” Hibari was going to answer Ryouhei’s name, but Ryouhei continued again, “Don’t pick the one whom you can live with… Pick with the one whom you extremely can’t live without…” and Hbari’s eyes widened in realization. The name that appeared in his mind when Ryouhei said those words was not Ryouhei. It was Yamamoto.

Hibari smiled sadly, “I’m sorry Ryouhei…” Ryouhei patted his shoulder, “Don’t worry… I already know it all along to the extreme…” “And you were there for me all along…” “Don’t mind it… I told you I love you to the extreme… even though now I feel like broken hearted to the extreme…” Ryouhei just laughed and patted his shoulder again.

“I’m sorry, Ryouhei… and thank you…” Hibari felt a new resolution now. He didn’t care whether Yamamoto already had Gokudera or anyone else, he was going to knock some sense into the baseball freak’s head. And what would happen later he could worry about it later.

He smiled in Yamamoto’s arms. He was glad he took the initiative. Being in love really changed him so much. He never thought he would become the kind of man he used to dislike. A man in love.

Yamamoto held Hibari and thought about what happened with him and Gokudera. Gokudera called him into an empty classroom yesterday. He said he had something important to say. And Yamamoto was ready to hear it.

“I was just playing with you, baseball idiot! What? Do you think I’ll be in a serious relationship with you? You’ve got to be kidding me!” Gokudera said harshly. Yamamoto was shocked to hear those words coming out of Gokudera’s mouth. “Besides… Who is it that you’re thinking whenever we have sex?”

The last question came to him like a slap. How did Gokudera know? “Tch. Of course I know everything. Now go… Just go somewhere already…” Gokudera pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and lighted it.

Yamamoto hugged Gokudera tightly, “Gokudera… Thank you…” “Are you stupid or what? I just dumped you, idiot!” “Yup, I know… I’ll treat you to sushi buffet later…” “Alright, alright, whatever… Now just get out of my sight…” Gokudera pushed Yamamoto to the door and kicked him.

And Gokudera slammed the door. Yamamoto scratched his head, “I’m sorry, Gokudera… But I really thank you…” “I know… so shut up…”

Gokudera bit his cigarette and tried to keep his tears for not falling down. Not that Yamamoto could see them anyway…

The rain was slowly fading into a clear sky. Yamamoto lifted Hibari’s wet tresses from the forehead and kissed the wet forehead. He grinned ear to ear and Hibari just shrugged it. “Look, Hibari… a rainbow…” “What’s so special about a rainbow?” “It’s special… Because beyond that rainbow lies the greatest treasure…” Hibari rolled his eyes, “You still believe in that stupid tale?” “Of course… Because now I have the greatest treasure of all in my arms…” He leaned in to kiss Hibari’s lips once again.

Sasagawa Ryouhei just passed Gokudera Hayato in the corridor. They stared at each other with red eyes. They kept staring for a while before Ryouhei said, “I won’t comfort your broken heart, octopus head… I don’t love you that way…” Gokudera scoffed, “That’s my line to say, turf head…” They glared at each other before they burst out laughing together.
