Chapter Three: The Big Bang Part 1

Chapter Three: The Big Bang Part 1

A/N: I am making the names for these chapters based off names for Case Closed episodes, in case you didn’t notice. Houndoom Attacks! was Jack Attacks! and The Big Bang was The Big Sting. Some Pokémon in my story are from Black and White, so you will have to look them up.

I forgot to mention that Akira has only beaten the Elite Four in the first 4 regions. He has not traveled to Unova region to challenge the Elite Four there.

Akira glanced up at the glaring sun and squinted his eyes. He then surveyed the surroundings with a frown. There was a massive hole in the street, debris littered the sidewalk and road. There were a few bodies and a fainted Electrode in the center of the hole. Akira hummed in confusion and headed over to where Jenny was talking to some of the survivors - this was by far his worst birthday ever. “Let me take it over Jenny.” He said, taking out a note book. “Can you tell me what happened here?” He had a sinking feeling that this was the work of a terrorist group.

The girl, maybe 14 years of age, was sniffling and nodded as a paramedic bandaged her arm. “I was watching a fight. It was my friend Ryan and some guy. He didn’t say his name. Just stated to make fun of Ryan. So, Ryan challenged him. Ryan won the first two fights, and then, the guy was supposed to send out a Ninetails, but instead, there was an explosion.”

Akira frowned and stopped taking notes. “A Ninetails? How do you know?”

She sniffled again. “He had been bragging about it, saying it was a ‘shiny’. I don’t know what that means, but Ryan did. The guy threw the Pokéball and said ‘Go, Ninetails’. Then…boom.”

Smiling, he nodded to her. “Ok. Thank you.” He led Jenny away, the frown returning to his face. “I think…that this was a terrorist attack. The person engaged into battle by egging the boy on, bragging about a rare Pokémon. I think it was a suicide bomb - ” Akira was cut off by the nose of Jenny’s radio.

“Come again?” She called.

The voice was slightly staticy, but both heard him loud and clear. “Three more Electrode bombs just went off. I’m sending the addresses to your patrol car.”

The ride to the next site was tense - and only 3 miles away. The same scene this time: car horns honked loudly, people laying dead on the street, there was a massive hole in the middle of a side walk with a fainted Electrode in the middle. The paramedics were helping several people. One of police officers ran over to the group, panting. “One of the trainers survived. His Pokémon was quick enough to use protect when it felt the electricity. I have to warn you though, the blast was powerful enough to throw him several feet so he is kind of out of it.”

“Jenny…could you wait with Houndour?…I don’t…want him in the middle of this case.”

The puppy Pokémon growled and protested, but Jenny nodded. “I understand.” She said softly. “Come on, Houndour, let’s go to the next scene and gather some information.”

Akira watched the two leave and felt a clench in his chest. Shaking his head, he followed the officer over to the injured trainer. “Sir, if I could ask you a few questions - ”

“Where is my Torkoal!?” The trainer yelled, tears falling from his eyes with his sobs, “Where is she!?”

He didn’t know. He turned to the officer, “Can you find out for him?”

The officer nodded in surprise - the thought had obviously not occurred to him. He grabbed his radio, “I need an APB on a Torkoal injured during a bombing. Can anyone hear me?”

If was a minute before they got a reply, “This is Nurse Joy at the Sector 5 Pokécenter. She was brought to us with a major skull fracture and many broken bones and lacerations. She is stabilizing though. I think she will make it. I am not sure how her mental state is though. She needs her trainer right now.”

Akira found he was holding back tears. He reached down and grabbed the mans hand as his eyes drifted closed from his concussion. “Did you hear that?” He asked, his voice hoarse. “She’s going to be ok. I just want to know what happened so I can catch these people. Then this officer is going to take you to see her.”

This time, the man sobbed in relief. “I raised her. Since she was just a baby. God…I love her so much.” He choked up, tears falling once more. “It was a man. He was bragging about his rare Pokémon - a Tyranitar - he was saying how easy it could beat Torkoal. See, I don’t keep her in a Pokéball - she doesn’t like them. We were about to battle, and he was releasing his Tyranitar - I know, because he said it’s name - and then the next thing I remember is Torkoal on me, glowing green around us, then someone asking me if I could move. When I opened my eyes, Torkoal was gone.”

Akira commanded the officer to take him to see his Pokémon. Once again, just like at the last scene, a trainer approached someone, bragging and making fun of the victim, claiming to have a rare Pokémon. It had to be the work of terrorists. ‘But why not just release the Electrodes into a mass crowd. Hardly anyone is getting hurt this way. If they wanted to hurt people and commit suicide, it would be simpler to go to a mall, or a Pokémart and release the explosion. Something just isn’t adding up.’ He thought to himself, confused. He grabbed a near by office. “I need to get to Police Chief Jenny.” He spoke in a harsh voice.

Ten minutes later, he was at the next site. But this site made even less sense. There were only two - well three including the trainer who released the deadly Pokémon - victims. They were in the middle of the woods, no by standers, no large crowds to harm.

Jenny walked over to him, his Houndour looking around suspiciously. “I have a different story this time. There was one witness, a older brother one of the victims; his name is Davis. He said that the two trainers were friends. His brother was Mark, the girl was Susie. Apparently Mark had just gotten a Milotic from another trainer in a trade three days ago. Susie wanted to see it and have a friendly battle. But, when Mark released the Pokémon, there was an explosion instead. They had just gotten back from a Pokécenter, having left the Pokémon there over night for a check up.” She explained reading back over the notes she had taken. “I had an officer take the brother to the station. There were three more explosions 5 minutes ago. What’s the next move?”

Akira sat down with his back against a tree thinking. ‘Seven explosions, the first three all rare Pokémon, all Electrodes, could…I wonder…no, maybe…but why would they…?’ He sighed in frustration. “Have an officer go to each one of the sites and radio in this information back to us: was a rare Pokémon involved, was the trainer who owned the rare Pokémon the unsub, and was the unsub belligerent or aggressive. We will go back to the station and await the information.”

He meditated the entire ride to the station. There was a clue, he just knew it. He had to think back to the crime scenes, think back and remember every detail, including every word that was uttered. Once they arrived at the station, he locked himself in a room with his Houndour to bounce ideas off of. Around him were his notes, pictures of the crime scenes, everything he needed was in the room with him. He growled in frustration and stood once there was a knock on the door. Throwing it open, he barked out a “What?”

Police Chief Jenny looked surprised. “I…We have the rest of the information.”

He winced, regretting snarling at her. “Bring everyone in here.” He said, leaving the door open and walking back to his spot on the floor in the middle of what looked like a twister of papers. He heard everyone shuffle into the room, one rookie was talking some trash and immediately got put down by one of the senior officers. He couldn’t tell who though, his eyes were closed. “What do we know about the fourth explosion?” He asked, still not opening his eyes.

The rookie was the one to answer. “The unsub approached a trainer named Hailey Vasquez. He ranted about his Shiny Absol for a few minutes and then challenged her to a fight. She agreed, but when he released his Absol, there was an explosion. She…didn’t make it. She was 10 years old. Her Pokémon also died in the explosion.”

Akira nodded. “How far from ground zero did this happen?”

“Um…” He could here the uncertainty in the rookie’s voice. “I didn’t write down the location…”

Jenny spoke up, saving him a tongue lashing, “It was less then 7 miles away.”

“And the fifth attack?” There was something pulling at the back of his mind. He just needed to remember it. Something very important to the whole case, extremely important - he cold just feel it in his mind, but he didn’t know what it was that was bothering him.

“The unsub approached a trainer name Zach Almon. He told Mr. Almon that he had gotten a new Pokémon and was wanting to try it out. It was reported to be a Zoroark from the Unova region. Mr. Almon agree, but as the unsub released his Zoroark, a Electrode appeared and exploded. Neither trainer survived. Luckily, Mr. Almon had not released his Pokémon yet and all six of his survived the blast inside their Pokéballs.” It was a different officer this time. “It was 4 miles south of ground zero.”

Then, a thought struck Akira. There were 12 Pokécenters in the city, each had a distinct sector. “Jenny, case number 3, they had just come from a Pokécenter, correct?” He opened his eyes and watched as the Police Chief nodded. “The Torkoal, it was taken to the closest Pokécenter, Sector 5. I want a map of the area sector five covers. How far was the last explosion from ground zero?”

“7 miles.” Someone spoke as Jenny left the room to get a map. She returned moments later wheeling in a board with a map of the city attached to it. Each sector was broken down according to the Pokécenters.

Akira took a marker off the desk in the room and plotted ground zero’s address. It was in sector five. He plotted the next six addresses and when he was done, he felt a cold take over his heart. All had been in Pokécenter fives sector. “Call all the families of the unsubs! Fund out if they had visited sector 5 Pokécenter last night and left their Pokémon over night.”

Jenny shook her head. “We should have gotten the prints back. I’ll go get them.”

Akira nodded. He waited in the room while everyone left and pet his Houndour’s head. “Hey boy…do you think…it’s time to get the Team out?” The Houndour was silent for a long time, then finally, he nodded, resting his head in his owner’s lap. “Alight. I’ll miss you for a while boy.” Akira pulled out his Pokéball and recalled his Pokémon. He then stood and walked over to the PC that was in the room. He retrieved his team of Pokémon he hadn’t seen in three years - the team he had beaten the Elite Four with.

“Akira?” Jenny spoke cautiously as she stepped into the room. “Is that…”

He smiled sadly as he turned to her, “Yeah. My first Pokémon team. The Team that beat the Elite four. What did you find?”

She shook her head, trying to clear the amazement from her face - she still had yet to see Akira in action with the Legendary Team, as everyone called it. “All Pokécenters offered a free full check up to look for terminals illnesses yesterday. The testing took all night and everyone had to leave their Pokémon over night. All the trainers were on the list.” Jenny handed him a piece of paper. “This is the full list. 23 people in section five alone. We have sent out a news cast telling trainers who went to this event to not release any Pokémon from their Pokéballs. We can’t be sure we reached everyone.”

Akira nodded. “Get a list of any trainer that had any type of semi to extremely rare Pokémon. We have to get to them first.” The hunt was on.
