When Alyria left on her journey, she looked almost as beautiful as her mother, Rei was told by Anova, to give her the Suicune he bred the previous summer as her starter, since the two had grown quite close. Anova had since taken another Lucario as his mate, his mind broken and repressing much of the event that caused his mate’s death. He elected not to accompany his daughter, but gave her the Pokéballs containing Cinder’s pups, whom Rei had rescued a while back when they were being chased and the Mightyena had been injured. Wisdom also elected to go with Alyria, giving her a team of four Pokémon to start with. In the months after Kaitlin’s death, Rei had gained a specialty license in Breeding, and Rare Collecting, making him a dual licensed Rare Breeder.

Cinder, however, had passed away from old age by the time Alyria was old enough to have her own Pokémon. Fangsong, having just evolved when he mated, was still middle aged, but he wished to remain with Rei. Rei and Anova often looked on the local websites for news of their daughter, dreaming of the day when and if she would find out about her true heritage.
