It was nine a.m. the time Elodie and Hakkai had set for their coffee date that morning. Yet, she was nowhere to be found. When Hakkai had awoken early that morning, a cloud of worry seemed to be hovering overhead. No matter what he did, he couldn’t shake the foreboding feeling.
Now with Elodie not showing up he knew something was incredibly wrong. He ran as fast has his legs would carry him towards her quaint little cottage. In less than five minutes he was standing in front of the white gate. His heart sunk into his stomach when he saw that the front blue door had been basically torn off its hinges. Walking slowly past the door and into the dark house anger and fear began to seep into Hakkai’s soul. With every step he felt his emotions grow stronger and stronger.
This would be the second time a woman he held feeling for had been kidnapped by demons. In this situation however, Hakkai had the chance to be thankful for the first time in his life for being a demon. He would make sure that this time he would find his woman before an atrocity was acted out upon her.
Reaching up to his left ear he began to remove his limiters. He had only removed his limiters three times in the past and in these tragic circumstances he knew he had no other choice. Only with his full demon abilities would he be able to track the monster who took what belonged to him.
The transformation happened quickly. His ears became pointed, his long hands became claws, his once mesmerizing right eye turned golden and slitted like a cat and black vines swirled around on his skin, marking him as the demon he was.
Instantly he picked up on Elodie’s sent. The smell of hers intoxicated him. Never had he smelled something as sweet or spicy as her. With it ingrained in his memory he took off into the forest hot on the trail of his missing love.
He ran late into the night before he needed to rest. Exhaustion was deep in his bones but his anger egged him on. He stopped only for a short while by a small stream to drink water and rest his tired limbs. Without wasting another crucial minute he was off again.
Her smell was faint, barely any of it remained. He ran faster and harder. If anything had happened to her he would never forgive himself.
He thought of her continuously to fuel his emotions and his drive. He thought of how attentive she had been to him when he first awoke from his partial coma; her beautiful bright smile that lit up any room, her deep golden mesmerizing eyes and he thought of what he would do to make her happy and to one day claim her as his woman.
The realization that he was almost completely head over heels in love with her stopped him in his tracks. Breathing hard he used one arm to learn up against a tree. ‘I love her and I wasn’t there to protect her.’ The guilt that abashed him at that moment was very similar to the guilt he felt when he failed Kanon, yet different. The guilt he felt now was stronger. He was going to find her and he was never going to let anything hurt her again.
Instead of dwelling on how he should have been there to stop the abduction, he once again took to the trail of Elodie and her abductor.
Hours passed and her sent grew stronger. Dawn was near and with the early morning light, Hakkai notice the trees thinning in the upcoming distance. As he neared he saw a clearing, and in that clearing stood a small cabin. Elodie’s sent was now overpowering.
