Chapter Three: The Southern Air Temple and the Jewel of Life
The next morning, the group set off for the Southern Air Temple and flew southeast until they came to a mountain range above the clouds, which is the Patola Mountain Range which is where the Southern Air Temple is. Soon enough, the Temple came into view, with its central tall tower along with smaller ones along with smaller buildings, a courtyard, and other parts of the temple. Arceus soon landed at the courtyard, along with Appa and the group as they got off. He is then told that it is there that Aang first went into his Avatar State after finding the skeletal remains of Monk Gyatso, so the group went to the area where the remains are and found Gyatso's remains as well as 199 other male Airbenders. He remarks, "So these are the remains of the Airbenders." Aang replies, "I spent my first 12 years here and I do miss them."
Arceus nods and glows as he uses his powers, which restored the remains to a fully-fleshed state, along with their internal organs. At first there was silence, but then there came multiple gasps as the Airbenders woke up, with Gyatso being the first to wake up. Aang went over to him, and helped the elderly monk up, while the others helped the other Airbenders to get their bearings. Gyatso felt his eyes widen when he saw Aang, and asks him, "Is that you, Aang? I thought something terrible had happened to you when you ran away from the temple, and how is it that we are alive again? If I recall, we were massacred by Fire Lord Sozin's men, in a bid to weed you out to prevent you from stopping his plans of territorial expansion."
Aang adds, "But he didn't find me. I froze myself into an iceberg, and 100 years had passed after this. I was found by a Waterbender named Katara, along with her younger brother, Sokka, who didn't quite trust me at first. That's when my adventures had truly begun. Just a month ago, I defeated Fire Lord Ozai by taking away his Firebending. Now his son, Zuko, who originally hunted me down, rules over the Fire Nation." At the part where he took Ozai's Firebending away, Gyatso nods, having heard legends of the art of Energybending.
Arceus smiles and goes over to to Aang and says as he takes out his plates, "Aang, to restore the rest of the Airbenders, Sky Bison, Lemurs, and all life at the temples, I will give you some of my strength. These plates are a part of my being and what keeps me alive. Without them, I would die, and the universe would fall apart. With the powers of Grass, Ground, Water, Fire, Flying, and with Electricity, they blend together, and with the power of dragons, they they are increased thus forming the Jewel of Life."
At that, the green and gold Jewel forms from the plates and lands in Aang's hands. Arceus continues as the remaining plates go back inside of him, "But, without that Jewel, my life is diminished and will make me vulnerable. Aang, I am trusting you with my life. When you finish resurrecting them, you are to return the Jewel to me on the day of the Fall Equinox, which is several weeks from now."
Aang nods, as Arceus leaves and heads back to his world for the time being. He advises, "We have to keep this Jewel safe. We wouldn't want Azula to get her hands on it and use it to cause untold destruction. Or worse yet, do something terrible to Arceus."
Meanwhile, with Azula, we see her fighting off a group of Firebenders attempting to capture her, but failing, as she soon defeats them with her blue Firebending. She cackles insanely, as she finds an airship and flies off to plot her next move... With Arceus, he sees a brief vision of the Jewel of Life getting stolen from Aang, and himself being tortured by the same person who steals the Jewel. After this, he remarks to himself, "I've got to be careful! I know all too well of a similar situation. It's now been almost three weeks. I better head to the observatory to check on how long until the Fall Equinox is on that world."
Arceus then heads upstairs until he got to the second floor of the palace, and entered the observatory before looking into his telescope which can view a planet on the surface, no matter how far away it is. He looks towards the eastern sky into space on the eastern border at the edge of the Exemplar Unus System and sees the solar system he was at, and notices a red comet reaching toward the edge of that system. He peers closer towards the Avatar's world, and saw its position in relation to its parent star. He finds that tommorrow is the Fall Equinox in that world, which is the same in his world. He remembers that back near the beginning, their were five worlds or more that were born at the same time, and the fact that the flow of time in all worlds of the Nintendo Galaxy flow at the same rate, and is constant, though time remains still in space so that nothing changes when someone travels between worlds without fear of not recognizing his or her homeworld. Arceus then leaves and flies to that world and heads towards the Southern Air Temple, only to hear a tune which is similar to the legendary Azure Flute and heads for the Si Wong Desert, only to be ambushed by Azula, who is holding the Jewel of Life. Azula cackles, "Oh, you thought you would be expecting the Avatar, but now I have you right where I want you. The Jewel of Life is mine! And now, Sandbenders, help claim this beast!"
She then shoots lightning towards Arceus, but he manages to move out of the way as he snarls, "So, you're Azula! I've heard much about you from your more sensible brother, Zuko. Just who do you think you are?" The former Fire Nation princess sneers as the Sandbenders appeared in a dust cloud as they quickly tied up, Arceus as Azula shot more lighting at the legendary, who screamed in pain, "Aaaarruugh!!! You vile witch! You decieved me!" Azula then takes Arceus away leaving a few clumps of white fur and drops of blood.
A month passed, and Star became increasingly worried and stressed out for Arceus, and decided to go to Aang's world to find him, and make sure he comes out alive. When she did arrive, Star went to the desert and found the clumps of white fur from her beloved mate. "He's been attacked here alright," thought Star, "Whoever is responsible for this will pay quite dearly, and the Jewel of Life will be returned to my beloved." Before she could go any further, she notices the gaang arriving with Appa and landed near her. Star thinks, "Yes! With our combined strength, we'll catch up to my mate's kidnapper and get the Jewel of Life back, too!"
Aang, recognizing the she-Arceus, asks her, "Arceus was here, wasn't he?" Star nods sadly, "He has been missing for a month. I assume you know who took him away?" The Airbender nods with a grim look, as he replies, "Our perpetrator is the former Fire Nation princess, Azula. She ambushed us, and took the Jewel of Life from us! My guess is that she lured Arceus here and took him away." Star then remarks, "Well, we cannot stand here and do nothing, we'll have to find a way to track down this Azula and get Arceus and the Jewel back."
Aang was about to reply, when a Sandbender appears, and surprisingly, hands him a scroll before leaving. He then unfurls the scroll, as Katara asks him, "Who is it from?" He replies with narrow eyes, "Azula." She asks again, "What did she write in it?" The Airbender successor to Avatar Roku replies, "She's challenging us for the fate of Arceus and the Jewel of Life. The battle will take place in a volcano somewhere in the Fire Nation northwest of here."
Star nods, as she and the group heads northwest to find Arceus. After about a few days of traveling to the northwest, they approached a volcano that is active and is on the verge of erupting as lava flows down from the crater, which is spewing volcanic ash. Star then noticed a stream of blue fire streaking towards them, and flew out of the way before noticing Arceus, chained in a cage and bleeding. His body is covered in numerous gashes, with burns around them and all over his body. His ribs are broken, and he is emaciated from having no food. He also fears humans, and now, he is in a cage which is hanging dangerously close to a lava pit. Arceus at the moment is curled in a tight ball, whimpering in fear of his life. She felt her heart break for Arceus, and her blood boil in anger at Azula's doing, as she then goes down to the edge of the crater to confront the insane former princess.
The she-Arceus then sees Azula smirking arrogantly, with the Jewel of Life in her hands, as she cackles, "Did you really think I intend to challenge you? I have the Jewel of Life, and if you dare attack, that beast will breath no more! This volcano is on the verge of erupting, and any move you make will cause this volcano to erupt. "
Star knew she had to do something to defeat Azula at her own demented game, and get her mate and the Jewel of Life back, but the former princess is cunning and it would not be easy. She subtly changed to Psychic-type in a way that would not be noticed by Azula, and snuck by her to quickly rescue her mate, who is whimpering more fearfully and cried, pleading for help. Star immediately broke the cage and quickly grabbed Arceus by the scruff of his neck with her strong jaws, but gently like a mother cat would her kitten. Azula notices this, and smugs, "Ah, no matter, I've still got the--Wait! Where is it?!" as she realized that she is no longer holding the Jewel of Life. She turns around to see Katara holding it, as the Waterbender asks in a stern tone, "Looking for this, princess?" before continuing, "We've beaten you at your own sick game!"
Azula snarls and hisses insanely, "Arrrgh! You damn filthy Water Tribe peasent, you all have not seen the last of me! I will remember this!" She then shoots a bolt of lightning at Arceus, attempting to knock him into the lava, but barely so, as he lets out a weak cry in pain and almost landed in the pit, though his fur caught on fire and Star caught her mate just in time, and teleported herself and the group to her world to get him medical attention.
