Tōya doesn't particularly want to let go of his soulmate—Izuku, his name is Izuku—but it's not like he can fix his arms through sheer force of will, so he begrudgingly lets the hospital staff take Izuku away and finds a seat to sit in and wait. And wait. And wait some more.
He doesn't keep track of the time, if only because he doesn't want to know how long it's been and because it'll drive him crazy, but Eraserhead shows up at some point, accompanied by the familiar figure of Detective Tsukauchi Naomasa and what looks to be the entirety of 1-A. Tōya pointedly ignores the weight of Shōto's gaze on him—he doesn't want to get into it with the brat right now—and straightens up from his slouched over position as Eraserhead and Tsukauchi start to come over to him.
A woman wearing a lab coat and wielding a clipboard makes it to him first, her voice curt as she asks him, "You brought in Midoriya Izuku, correct?"
"Yes," Tōya answers as patiently as possible though his tone comes off as a little clipped.
"I was able to request his medical charts from U.A. and I don't see anything indicating that he has a soulmate, so until he wakes up to verify that you are, in fact, his soulmate, I'm afraid I won't be able to let you back to see him." The woman sounds contrite enough, and Tōya can understand why they're being so cautious but it's still irritating.
"Actually, I can verify that he's Midoriya Izuku's soulmate for you," the Detective says after a cursory glance at Eraserhead, who gives a subtle nod, and the woman partially turns to look at him. "I'm Detective Tsukauchi." The Detective holds out his badge for the woman to check, after which she nods slightly then steps back, giving him more direct access to Tōya. "Just so that you're aware, my Quirk lets me determine if someone is telling the truth or not."
Tōya stares at the Detective for a moment then looks beyond him and Eraserhead to see that some of 1-A has wandered closer, and Shōto is among the students that he assumes are attempting to eavesdrop. "You have some overly curious students, Eraserhead," he drawls out, fully annoyed, and his gaze lands on Shōto who is among them. "One of whom should know better."
Eraserhead groans in frustration and pivots on his heel to scold the prying students while Tsukauchi glances at them with a frown. "We can take this somewhere more private if you'd like…?"
"Call me Sōen for now, Detective, and I'd appreciate the discretion. My identity is a touchy subject for me," Tōya answers as he follows the retreating students with a glare. "And while that's part of why you've probably been brought in, I'm not willing to discuss that until I can talk with my soulmate, which is Midoriya Izuku."
"He's telling the truth," Tsukauchi declares after a few beats of silence, and the woman with the lab coat and clipboard nods as she writes something down on the papers she's carrying.
"Midoriya-san is currently knocked out right now due to the pain he's suffered from his injuries but I can take you back to stay with him," the woman explains candidly, and it's all Tōya needs to hear.
He's up on his feet in a matter of seconds, everything around him practically fading away as his focus latches on to the fact that they're letting him see Izuku. "Please take me to him." He doesn't care if he sounds desperate at this point, and he doesn't care if he looks it either. He's been on edge the entire time and now he's finally being granted a modicum of relief.
"Right this way then, Sōen-san." The woman—Dr. Kureha the name tag on her lab coat reads—motions for him to follow after her, which he does without even sparing a glance to Tsukauchi or Eraserhead.
"How bad are his arms?" Tōya tries to keep his voice level but even he can hear the way it jumps and cracks slightly with worry.
"I'm still going over his medical charts from U.A. but from my initial x-rays of his arms, it's pretty bad." Dr. Kureha's tone is softer now but it doesn't make her answer any easier to accept.
Tōya frowns but gives a faint nod of acknowledgment and he tries to not think of what pretty bad can mean right now. He needs to think positively. Izuku is alive, for one, and that's all he has to cling to right now. Damn, this is going to be hard.
"I did have to call for Recovery Girl to come in and treat him, so we'll have to see how he heals up before I can say anything more definitively on the state of his arms," Dr. Kureha adds as she comes to a stop outside of a closed door. "He's in here."
"Thank you," Tōya just barely manages to whisper to Dr. Kureha and he steps forward to open the door.
The room is on the larger side even though Izuku is its only occupant, and Tōya's heart catches in his throat at the sight of Izuku laid out, both arms fully covered with casts. He looks far more fragile like this, his complexion washed out and almost sickly in the harsh hospital lighting, and for a second Tōya contemplates hunting down and murdering the asshole responsible for landing Izuku here.
He slowly makes his way across the room to the bedside chair, which he drags as close to the bed as he can get it, and sinks into it. Leaning forwards, he folds his arms on the edge of the bed and rests his chin on top of them so that he can watch Izuku for however long it'll take for him to wake up. He knows that it won't be any time soon but it's not like he has anywhere to be.
