September 7.
Sailor Moon clutched her scepter to her breast and stared in shock at the scene before her.
She had destroyed the daimohn as usual, but something unusual had happened. Two beams of light had shot out, aimed at Sailor Uranus and Sailor Sol. Sailor Neptune and Kishi Saturn had attempted to intercept the beams, but they had only been knocked out.
They were being tended by Kishi Neptune and Kishi Uranus, but there was no sign of either Uranus or Sol.
“Haruka?” Sailor Moon whispered. “Aster?”
After a few moments, Sailor Moon realized who else was not there: Kishi Pluto, Sailor Saturn, and Sailor Mini Moon were gone.

Sailor Uranus picked herself up off of the ice-encrusted ground she had landed on. She was bruised and abraded, and already feeling the chill from the sleet-laden wind that whipped around her. It was a new experience for her, being made cold by wind, and she didn’t like it.
She looked around, and came to the conclusion that she was not only no longer in autumnal Tokyo where she started, but she was no longer anywhere she recognized. She looked up to see if she could find stars, only to stare at sullen clouds, obscuring any stars that might have existed.
As she stood there, trying to figure out where she was and what had happened, she saw a flare of light in the distance. The flare repeated a few moments later, and then again. She started walking in the direction of the flares, which continued more-or-less regularly. Even if the flares were from some kind of volcanic activity, it would be warmer.
The journey seemed to take forever. When Uranus reached the source of the flares, they had stopped, but there was a wall of heavy ice deflecting the wind away from a small area.
On the sheltered side of the wall, Uranus found Sailor Sol, slumped in exhaustion. Her normally buoyant curls were limp and soaked with sweat. She looked up as Uranus’ footsteps crunched on the ice underfoot.
“Uranus,” she said, panting. “Thank the gods. I thought I might be alone.”
“I thought so, too, Sun-Face,” Uranus answered. “How are we going to get out of here?”
“Sailor Teleport,” Sol gasped.
“It takes more than two Senshi to do that,” Uranus objected.
“Not if it’s me and either you or Venus,” Sol told her. “We have a special connection, and our combined power is greater than the sum of the parts. We can get anywhere that you and I know collectively.”
“Where to, then?” Uranus asked.
“We don’t know what’s happening in Tokyo,” Sol told her. “I gave Kishi Pluto some very specific instructions. I told him that if something ever took out me, you, Venus, or Terra, that he was to grab Sailor Saturn and Mini Moon and get to the house that you and I set up in Akita.
“You and I picked the house,” Sol continued. “We checked the security systems and the layout, and arranged for the helipad to be put in. We know that house as well as we know Chiba House. We can go there, and then we can find out what happened after we got sent here.”
“You rest first,” Uranus said. “You look like you’re exhausted.”
“Then come here and help me get warmed up,” Sol said, smiling at her.
“Let’s get out of here,” Uranus said, holding out one hand.
Sol smiled up at her, took her hand, and rose to her feet.
The two Senshi stood back to back. They clasped hands and leaned their heads back so that they rested on the other’s shoulder. Sol closed her eyes against the fear that gripped her heart and tightened her hands on Uranus’ so that the other Senshi would know she was ready.
Softly at first, and then louder, the two Senshi started humming. As the sound built, so did their power, spiraling around them in gold, blue, and red sparkles. When they were completely surrounded by sparkling spirals, Uranus tightened her hands on Sol’s, and the two of them invoked the power at the same time.
“Sailor Teleport!”

At first, they weren’t certain that they had made it. The air around them was still cold, and the ground crunched under their feet when they shifted.
Finally, Sol gathered her courage and opened her eyes.
They were standing on a stretch of bare ground just outside of a two-story house. She looked around at the small yard, and the six-foot wall that enclosed the property. Lights were on inside the house, illuminating the yard in the twilight.
Sol released Uranus’ hands and stepped away from her. She turned to look at the other Senshi while Uranus looked around.
“We made it,” Uranus said quietly.
“Yes,” Sol said. “It looks like Kishi Pluto made it, too. Now it’s time to see what happened in Tokyo.”
“He won’t know,” Uranus said.
“I know,” Sol responded. She reached up and pressed the medallion at her throat.
“This is Sol,” she said. “How are things? What happened?”
“Sol?” Usagi’s voice was tinged with hysteria. “Where are you? Are you alright? Do you know where Uranus is?”
“She’s with me, Sailor Moon,” Sol replied. “We’re safe, and we’ll be home tomorrow.”
“What about Pluto?” Mamoru’s voice cut in. “He disappeared with Mini Moon and Sailor Saturn.”
“He was following my orders, Endymion,” Sol said. “I told him to take them away if something happened. We’ll be bringing them with us. Kishi Moon, don’t worry about Saturn. She’s fine.”
“You’ll explain your choices to us, Sol,” Mamoru said.
“If you think you’ll understand it, Endymion,” Sol responded. “We’ll get some sleep, and then we’ll come back in the morning. Don’t worry.”
“That’s easy for you to say, lass,” Sean’s voice cut in. “Neptune an’ me were knocked flat by that blast that sent the two of you away.”
“We’re fine, Saturn,” Sol said. “Uranus, say something so they will let us get some rest. I’m exhausted.”
“I’m right here,” Sailor Uranus’s voice cut over any objections. “She’s right, we’ll be back in the morning. Get some rest. I promise that at least two of you won’t get much when we get home.”
“As long as you’re safe,” Usagi told them. “I was so worried.”
“We’re fine, Neko-chan,” Uranus said. “Uranus out.”
“Sol out,” Sol said, and then she released the communicator, cutting it off. She looked over at Uranus, and then reached for her tiara.
The transformation back to Aster and Haruka was just completed when the door to the house opened, and ChibiUsa stood in the opening, a scowl creasing her face.
“That was mean,” she declared. “You didn’t need to have Pluto kidnap us, Aster.”
“I had my reasons,” Aster replied. “Let us come in, and I’ll tell you what they were.”
“This better be good,” ChibiUsa declared. She moved aside so that the two of them could enter the building, and closed the door behind them.
Inside, the table held the remnants of a meal for three, and Hotaru was in the kitchen, making more food.
“We were eating when you arrived,” Hotaru explained. “When I finish this, I’ll heat up what we haven’t eaten yet.”
“Let me help,” Aster said. “Two can work faster than one.”
“No you don’t,” ChibiUsa declared. “You’re gonna tell me why you did that.”
“I can talk and work at the same time,” Aster said. “’Ruka, find out where Takagi is. I only want to explain this once, and I never explained to him.”
Haruka nodded and left the room, looking around for the missing person.
She turned a corner into the cozy den that Aster had liked the most about the house, and ran into Takagi coming in from the side porch.
“I wanted to get the bath heated for you,” he said. “I was worried I wouldn’t see you until Crystal Tokyo.”
“You and Sean would just have had to console Michiru,” Haruka said. “I wasn’t really worried, though. I knew I was in Crystal Tokyo. As soon as I found Aster, I knew she was going to be there, as well.”
“The bath is heated,” Takagi said. “Can I welcome you home?”
“Not without Aster,” Haruka said. “She said she wants to explain why she gave you the orders she did.”
“This I have to hear,” Takagi said. “Lead on, my dear.”
He followed Haruka into the kitchen area to find Aster putting steaming dishes on the table while Hotaru pulled reheated food out of the microwave.
“I hear you have an explanation,” Takagi said. “What is it?”
“Simplicity itself,” Aster said. “ChibiUsa is our assurance of the future. Of all of the Senshi, Sailor Saturn is the one most capable of destroying an opponent with the least damage to the surrounding area. I had you take them away to safeguard our future. Sailor Saturn can take care of ChibiUsa while you and Setsuna open a time gate.”
“I wanted to fight!” ChibiUsa declared, a frown on her pretty face.
“Aren’t you tired of squishing bugs?” Aster asked her. “This is getting to be a boring exercise, after over a year.”
“I’ll never get tired of them!” ChibiUsa declared. “Do I get to fight more?”
“Yes, Hime-chan,” Aster said tiredly. “You get to fight more. We’ll return to Tokyo tomorrow.”
“How?” Takagi asked. “I brought them here the fast way.”
“We could do that,” Aster said. “It would cause less comment than if we had a rental car delivered, or a helicopter.”
“Why wait until tomorrow, then?” Takagi asked. “We could go home tonight.”
“I think we should stay here, tonight,” Aster said. “We should give Michiru and Sean some time to themselves.”
“Not to mention Usagi and Mamoru,” Takagi said, smiling.
“That’s not what I mean, Korio,” Aster corrected. “Mamoru and Usagi actually could probably use more quality time with their partners. Michiru and Sean have never had the alone time that she and Takagi did, or that Sean and Haruka and I did. Their soul bond is the least developed of the five of us. I think they need this time.”
“As you wish, Hoshiko,” Takagi said, bowing a bit.
“What are we gonna do?” ChibiUsa asked, frowning.
“We have satellite,” Aster told her, gesturing to the other room. “Go watch TV.”

Aster woke at dawn, as usual, with Haruka on one side of her, and Takagi on the other side. Some part of her that had always felt lacking was gone. She felt more complete than she had in ages.
She slithered out of between her lovers and padded into the adjoining bathroom, intent on having breakfast ready and cleaning up before anyone else rose.
She paused at the closets that lined the short hall leading to the bathroom and pulled out clean clothes. She decided that she would collect their soiled clothing and take it back to Tokyo for cleaning. She and Haruka could come back up and return the clothing they would use today.
She turned on the shower and waited while it heated up. She was about to step into the large enclosure when two arms wrapped themselves around her waist and a familiar form pressed into her, accompanied with the scent of musk and spice that always seemed to surround Haruka.
“You weren’t going to leave without me, were you, Sun-Face?” she asked softly.
“Never,” Aster promised. “I just wanted to get a head start on breakfast and what little cleaning needs to be done, before we leave.”
“We need a car here,” Haruka told her. “We were always thinking about it, but we never did it.”
“We will,” Aster said. “We need a car, and a couple of motorcycles. We also need an account at the Akita airport so we can get a helicopter or a small plane when we need one.”
“’Ruka, I’m dirty,” Aster said. “I want a shower. We don’t have time for a bath this morning.”
“Besides, I turned the heat off last night,” Haruka said. “I didn’t think we needed it on all the time.”
“No,” Aster said, stepping into the shower. “Don’t forget to drain it before we leave.”
“Right after breakfast,” Haruka promised as she followed her lover and closed the glass door behind them.

The five of them were nearly finished eating breakfast when they heard the sound of an approaching helicopter. They looked at one another in concern, and then Aster nodded to Takagi. She and Haruka rose from their seats and headed towards the door, intending to find out who was flying so close to their semi-isolated house.
ChibiUsa got up to follow them, and was intercepted by Hotaru.
“No, ChibiUsa,” Aster heard Hotaru tell her friend. “There’s more than supernatural threats. Let Haruka-Papa and Aster find out what’s going on, first. They’ll let us know if it’s safe.”
“It’s safe,” ChibiUsa said. “I bet it’s some of the others, in Sean’s helicopter.”
“We’ll see, Small Lady,” Takagi said.
Aster and Haruka walked outside and shielded their eyes from the flying dust kicked up by the silvery helicopter that was landing on their helipad. Aster recognized Eduard in the pilot’s seat, and Nathan next to him.
She reached up and pressed her transmitter.
“Mini Moon was right,” she said. “It’s Kishi Mars and Kishi Uranus, with a ride home for us.”
The two of them waited while the helicopter wound down. Aster felt ChibiUsa come up next to her, and put a hand on the girl’s shoulder.
“We’ll go home as soon as we get things cleaned up,” Aster said. “Go finish your breakfast.”
“Okay,” ChibiUsa said. She and Hotaru both returned to the house while Nathan and Eduard shut down the engines and exited the helicopter.
No one was more surprised than Aster when Lucinda, Vincent, and Thomas climbed out of the back of the helicopter.
“What are you doing here?” Aster asked.
“We needed to see you,” Lucinda said. “We wanted to see this safe house of yours, too.”
“It’s kind of funny,” Thomas said, looking around. “I could swear that I saw Sailor Pluto standing on the roof, when we arrived.”
“Setsuna hasn’t been here,” Aster said. “I think I would have known. She doesn’t even know where this place is.”
“We would like to take you home, Aster,” Lucinda said.
“As soon as we finish breakfast,” Aster told her. “Then we have to clean up a bit, and we’ll be ready to go.”
“We have already eaten breakfast,” Lucinda said. “Taiyono and I will clean up while you eat. Then, we can be on our way more quickly.”
“Okay,” Aster said, smiling. “Haruka and I have come to the conclusion that our preparations are a bit lacking, though.”
“Why’s that?” Vincent asked. “Did y’all forget the caviar in the pantry, or somethin’?”
“Funny, Taiyono,” Aster said. “No, Haruka and I realized that we didn’t put any modes of transportation on the property, aside from a couple of rickety bicycles that were here when we bought the place.”
“What are you gonna do?” Vincent asked.
“We’ll get a sedan, and a couple of motorcycles,” Aster said. “Complete tools, and some gas storage. We’ll have to keep them empty, but we should have fuel on the premesis. Other than that, I had a thought that we needed an account at the airport for helicopters or planes, if we need them.”
“Well, you can do that sometime later,” Vincent said. “Let’s get you back to your food, and then we can get you home.”
“No sooner said than done,” Aster said. “Why don’t you come in and take a look around?”

Their return to Chiba house was almost anticlimactic.
They arrived at the house just after noon. Everyone waited at the edge of the helipad, anxious to see them, despite the short time period they had been gone. It was the circumstances that made it imperative that the rest of the Senshi and Kishi see them and know that they were unharmed.
When they climbed out of the helicopter, just before her entire attention was occupied by the welcome home, Aster saw someone standing on the deck of Chiba House.
Sailor Pluto.
