Relief

Sorry it's so short. Ummmm, trying to figure out how to work in citrus for the next chapter.

**********

Those gathered in the clearing breathed an almost audible sigh of relief. All but Tres, who was looking at his sometimes partner in a completely different light. He was also processing some very strange things that had flashed through his circuitry during the healing ritual. He didn’t understand what it all meant but he resolved to take the time to process everything in detail at some point in time during night. At that moment he was more interested in watching Takara gather her siblings around her. Because no matter what was said about them being a team, the centuries that separated them or the differences in attitude and opinion, they were a family. He knew enough about blood ties through watching the interaction between Abel and Cain to know that just because you shared DNA it did not make a family. The Red Shaman group was fortunate in the fact that, aside from most of them being blood related, they truly enjoyed each other. It was an interesting thing and Tres resolved to study it further.

Abel opened his mouth to ask what had happened while he had been trying to recover only to find the wind knocked out of him when a small comet named Seth hit him. He still marveled at the strength held in such a small body as she squeezed him so hard he lost the capability to inhale.

“Seth, let him breathe,” Blaze chuckled. “That’s hardly fitting behavior for an Empress.”

Seth snorted into Abel’s shirt before letting go and stepping toward Blaze. “As though I care about that right now. There’s no one here from the Empire to see me being all mushy anyway.”

Abel’s expression turned from soft when looking down at his sister, to startled as a slow dawning horror crept into the edges of his consciousness then hit him full force. Other AX members had seen him. They had seen him go full Crusnik. Worse yet, the one person he would like to spend more time with had not only seen him at his absolute worst, he had been forced to draw on his own powers to get 02 to stand down. He glanced at Gun, who was getting his glorious emerald wings to settle back into his body at the moment, and suddenly had the strongest urge to hide from the other man.

Star rolled her eyes and walked over to take Abel’s face in her hands. “Shit, kiddo, the weird things that go through your head. Don’t worry about it. The members of AX and the Empire will never remember what they’ve seen and I doubt most heartily that Gun thinks any less of you,” she said, glancing at her nephew.

“But I’m a monster,” Abel choked, closing his eyes and trying to tamp down his horror at the situation.

“You’re magnificent,” Gun said quietly.

Abel’s eyes snapped open and he turned his head slightly in Star’s hold to look at the other man. “How can you say that?”

“I’ve dealt with real monsters, Abel. Which you, most certainly, are not.”

“Not to mention, I have yet to see a monster who’s so unutterably fuckable,” Circe said, leaning on Takara’s shoulder.

“Circe Aurora Schwarz!” Skye said, sounding scandalized.

“Sorry, Mama. I call things as I see them.”

Blaze shrugged. “She is Isa . . . Reicher’s daughter. The freak gene was bound to come out in her sooner or later.”

“Gives a whole new meaning to “I hope he bites”, doesn’t it?” Takara said, looking askance at her adopted sister.

“What happened to you “enjoying electronic devices”?” Circe asked.

“Oh, I fully intend to do that,” Takara said, grinning over her shoulder at Tres.

Abel turned a shocked look on his fellow AX member when Tres burst out laughing and said, “I look forward to that, Princess.”

“He’s been upgraded more than a little,” Star explained on seeing Abel’s expression.

“Okay, everyone. I think we need to get Abel into the house. Abel,” Blaze said, sensing his discomfort at everyone having seen him change to full Crusnik form. “They’ll never remember it. You know Star can alter the memories of even the strongest minds.”

“It’s more the fact that she had to do it in the first place,” he said morosely, hanging his head. “How am I ever supposed to look any of them in the face again?”

“Like this,” Gun said, taking Abel’s chin in one hand and levering his head up. “There’s no shame in being what you are. Look at those around you. Do you think for one instant that we haven’t all had doubts and fears concerning what any of us were capable of? Hunt, Uri and I are destroyer angels and that carries a heavy burden of responsibility with it. Especially for Hunt and Uri, who have far more intense duties than I do. Or Circe, who’s a full on witch with all the good and bad that comes with it. Or Taka and Blaze, who are the descendents of a trickster god. You would never and have never thought any less of them, why would you think less of yourself?”

“No. I would never think less of them,” Abel said, mulling over what had been said.

“We are all angels and demons. It’s part of existence. No one is ever wholly good or evil, it’s a balance.”

“Okay, everyone, enough philosophy. There are plenty of people who are anxious to talk to Abel,” Star said and immediately started herding everyone toward the house. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled lasciviously at Takara when she noticed that she and Tres were straggling behind the others.

//Coming, Taka?//

Takara smiled at Tres. //Not yet.//
