The Sailor Senshi and their counterparts landed in the midst of a cavernous room.
Sailor Sol immediately turned to where Mini Moon was still clinging to Sailor Moon.
“You agreed to stay!” Sol berated her. “How could you do this?”
“I had to!” Mini Moon declared. “My mother told me, that when you teleported, I had to go! She said I was necessary!”
Sol turned away from her at a quiet word from Sailor Uranus.
They could only vaguely sense the walls that logic said must be there, but something far more vital had caught their attention.
Encased in crystals, Sailor and Kishi Mercury, Kishi Jupiter, Tuxedo Kamen, and Kishi Moon were lined up in front of another crystal, one that pulsed darkly with stolen life-energy. Beyond the six crystals was a dais and a throne of some kind. A mostly human form was visible in the dim light.
"You trespass here," a voice intoned. It echoed through the cavernous space, making it impossible to tell where it came from.
"We are here for our friends," Sailor Moon called out, facing the figure on the throne for lack of a better location. "We are also here to stop the attacks on our world."
"Your world!" the voice spat out. The figure on the throne rose and descended the dais. It resolved itself into a man in long robes wielding a staff. On his chest was a symbol that matched the one that glowed on Aster's forehead when she transformed.
"It is not your world, interlopers!" he said. "It is our world! We are the Dark Millennium! Your kind exiled us to the dark like this We have spent many millennia gathering the power we need to reclaim what is ours. We have an ally who can help us defeat you. You are in our world now, and we reign supreme!"
"Let us take their energy, Solus," another figure came out of the shadows. "With the energy they carry, taking our kingdom back will be child's play."
"Yes," another voice joined the conversation as many more figures materialized out of the shadows. The Senshi and Kishi stood their ground.
As the Senshi watched, a roiling black cloud materialized over the sixth crystal. It did not resolve itself into any one shape, but the new voice issued from it.
"Yes," it said. "Take their energy. With that much power, and with them out of the way, the whole planet will fall into your hands like ripe fruit!"
With a hiss of hate, Sailor Saturn shouldered her way to the front.
"I know you," she called out. "I know you well, Pharaoh Ninety, ancient enemy. I defeated you once, by myself. I can defeat you again. One way or another, this stops here." She slammed the butt of her glaive down on the ground beneath her feet in emphasis.
Behind them, both Sailor Moon and Kishi Saturn moaned in denial, but they both as quickly stifled it, knowing that wishing would not change the situation.
"Solus," Sailor Sol stepped forward, nearly glowing with power. The sorcerers of the Dark Millennium shrank back from her, covering their eyes, except for Solus. He gazed at her, unflinching.
"Solus," she repeated. "That creature will destroy you. It exists only to spread chaos. You can't trust it, you can't deal with it. It was held in check for thousands of years, and now it's gotten loose. If you help it destroy us, it will destroy you."
"Don't listen to her!" the cloud shrieked. "She is here to win, Solus! She is trying to deceive you! She has been depriving you of the power you need so badly! She must be destroyed!"
"Solus," Sol pleaded. "By the star we both draw life from, I am not lying to you." She stepped forward, away from the others,
She glanced behind her to see that Uranus and Neptune had backed to where they were near their planetary partners. As if they had discussed it before, and despite the pledge they had all made, they understood as well as she did that if she and Saturn failed to either turn the Dark Millennium against Pharaoh Ninety or to destroy him, then a Final Strike was their only hope. They had to stop them and him before all was lost.
Sol looked over her shoulder at the Plutos, catching Takagi's eye and wishing she could tell him, just once more, that she had never stopped loving him. Instead, she saw his mouth form the words and she knew he understood that her choice was the only one possible. He began edging towards Mini Moon, who watched the whole situation from the rear.
"I can prove the truth of my words, Solus," she said, stepping closer to him. "You have nothing to fear from me. If you think I am lying, then take my life-energy. You have nothing to fear from the power of the Sun." She held out her hands to him, holding his eyes with hers, silently willing him to believe her.
"Don't listen to her!" Pharaoh Ninety cried. "Destroy her! Without her, the others will be easy! She is lying to you! You can't do this!"
Almost as if bespelled, Solus stepped up to Sailor Sol and took her hands. He drew her closer to him until they were up against one another. The longer he touched her, the more he began to glow. It was little points in one place or another at first, and then larger spots, then the edges of his robes and the tip of his staff. He drew Sol up against him, embracing her, as information and power passed together between them. Only Kishi Sol knew how dangerous this gamble of hers truly was.
"Yes!" Pharaoh Ninety cried. "Yes! Take her power! Drain them all! They won't stop me again!"
Fearful that Solus was listening, Kishi Sol stepped up behind his partner and put one hand on her shoulder, slipping the other around her waist to support her. A glow sprang up around him, as well, and the drain from her to Solus stopped.
Seeing a possible way to success, Sailor Saturn turned to one of the sorcerers, clad from head to toe in purple with silver accents.
"You see?" she said to him, reaching out her own hand. "He fooled you. He only thinks of himself. When we are gone and the planet is taken over, do you think he will have any use for you?"
"'They won't stop you?' Don't you mean 'us,' dark one?" the man asked, taking Sailor Saturn's hand and directing his question at the black cloud.
"Of course I meant 'us,'" the voice said, sounding irritated. "What else would I mean?"
"You lie," another sorcerer, one wearing the symbol for earth, said. "Terrayne told the truth. You are the evil here, not them."
"You must be Gaius," Sailor Terra said, stepping forward to him. "I heard her murmur your name just before she regained consciousness. She spoke the truth. We are not the enemy." She held out her hands, as Sol had, offering him information that no one could question the truth of.
As if knowing the end result, each Senshi sought out the corresponding sorcerer of the Dark Millennium, and supported by their planet partner other than Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Moon, fed them the information they needed, along a stream of power. It weakened each Senshi somewhat, but convincing the Dark Millennium of the truth of their words was worth the loss of power. Finally, only one sorcerer, wearing the symbol of Mercury, was left uninformed. He approached Solus and laid a hand on his shoulder, gaining access to the information that way.
Finally, Solus broke away from Sailor Sol, who sagged in her partner's embrace.
"You lied to us!" he cried, facing the roiling black cloud. "We trusted you!"
"Fool!" Pharaoh Ninety hissed. "You would have regained your rightful kingdom, and you never would have known what hit you. Now, you will all die in pain." The sixth crystal started humming and pulsing with a light that somehow made the surrounding area look darker.
Solus aimed his staff at the other five crystals. A short burst of power came from it, bursting the crystals and freeing the four Kishi and Sailor Mercury.
"Take your people and go," Solus said to Sailor Sol. "We brought this creature here. We will send it back where it came from." He turned away from her and aimed his staff at the remaining crystal, firing a yellow-white beam of energy into it.
Sol hesitated barely a second, then beckoned the others over as the sorcerers joined their leader. The Senshi retreated as far as they could, dragging the semiconscious forms of those who had been prisoners, then formed a ring to teleport everyone. Thanks to her disobedience, Sailor Mini Moon was able to lend her power to the Sailor Teleport that would take them all home.
Just before the Teleport became active, Sol, next to Uranus at the far end of the circle, was horrified to see the crystal fracture and shatter, releasing its energy in a burst of annihilation that wiped out the sorcerers first, and then headed towards the Senshi at lethal speeds.
Abruptly, the rush of energy slowed, and then seemed to stop entirely. Sol could see both Plutos, their hair rippling in a wind she could not feel, the teeth of their time keys glowing.
Finally, the Teleport activated with the expected feeling of vertigo. Then something seemed to hit them like a wall, tearing their clasped hands apart and making Sol feel like she had been dipped in a vat of acid.

Sailor Sol came to consciousness slowly. Something prickly was under her, and the sounds from cicadas were giving her a headache.
She rolled over and promptly fell off of the bushes she was laying on and onto the hard ground. She grunted as the breath was knocked out of her body.
Above her, something large shifted in a tree.
“Who’s there?” Sailor Uranus’ voice was cold enough to chill anyone else, but Sol nearly burst into tears of relief.
“Uranus, it’s me,” she said, leveraging herself to her hands and knees, and then to her feet.
“Sol?” the other Senshi queried as she dropped from the tree. The two of them embraced tightly for a long moment, cherishing each other’s presence.
“We have to find the others,” Sol said finally. Uranus released her, and Sol reached for her transmitter at her throat.
“This is Sol,” she said. “Everybody sound off. I want to know where you are.”
Silence met her transmission. Both of them could hear a bit of white noise in their earcuffs.
Sol looked to Uranus, fear blossoming over her face.
“There’s no answer!” she said. “What if … we’re the only ones that made it?”
“Don’t talk like that,” Uranus said gruffly, although her eyes betrayed her own fears. “The others were in Crystal Tokyo. Maybe we just got scattered.”
“This transmitter has a global reach,” Sol said. “They should hear me, no matter where they are?”
“The Plutos were slowing down time,” Uranus pointed out. “What if it’s not where they are, but when?”
“When?” Sol asked, biting her lower lip. “You mean they might show up later?”
“Yes,” Uranus said. “For now, let’s find out where we are, and get home. Everyone will try to get home, and if they need help, we need to be able to give them that help.”
“Right,” Sol said. “First things first, where are we?”
The two Senshi separated, looking for something that would tell them where they were. Sol had just found a plaque with an inscription in Japanese, when she heard Uranus call her.
She followed the soft voice through the night until she came across the other Senshi, holding a crumpled newspaper next to a trash container.
“We’re in Japan,” Uranus said. She showed the paper to Sol. The date was only two days from the last date they remembered.
“I found a plaque,” Sol said. “It was describing a plant in this park. The writing was in Japanese and English.”
“This paper is the Hokkaido Sentinel,” Uranus said. “We’re not even that far from home.”
“We could find a train,” Sol said. “We could get home that way, or we could just take a taxi to the airport.”
“Let’s find out exactly where on Hokkaido we are,” Uranus said. “First, we need to look normal.”
“Right,” Sol said. She reached up and removed her tiara. In a flash, Fushida Aster stood next to the trash container, her knapsack purse on her back.
“Good thing you never go anywhere without your purse, Sun Face,” Haruka said. “Otherwise, we’d have to make a collect call to your uncle.”
“That wouldn’t bother him,” Aster said. “I’ll call him when we know how we’re getting home. He must be worried.”
“I think I saw moving cars that way,” Haruka said, pointing. She led the way along the path to the nearby street.
The two Senshi read signs around them, which informed them that they were at Otaru Park, and that there was a train station close enough for directional signs to be posted.
“It’s just dawn,” Aster said quietly. “I wonder where Taiyono is.”
“He’ll be along, Sun Face,” Haruka said, putting an arm around Aster’s shoulders. “They all will.”
Aster nodded, and the two of them began walking in the direction that the sign indicated, looking for the train station.
The walk was only two blocks, and they caught a commuter train that took them to the main train station in Sapporo. From there, they took a taxi to the airport. Aster went to the ticket counter while Haruka approached the phone.
The first call was to the house. An anxious-sounding Hosyu answered the phone.
“Where are you?” he demanded. “What happened?”
“It’s a long story, oji-san,” Haruka said. “Aster is buying plane tickets. We found out on the train that our cell phones are fried.”
“You can get new ones when you get home,” Hosyu said. “Where is everyone?”
“We got separated,” Haruka said. “You’ll probably get all kinds of phone calls.”
“I hope so,” Hosyu said. “Call me when you know what time you’ll be in Tokyo. I’ll have Washino or Tori meet you at the airport.”
“Thanks,” Haruka said. “We’ll call, I promise.”
She turned back to see Aster coming over with a man in a uniform with her.
“There aren’t any flights for three hours,” Aster said. “However, this gentleman is from a charter service. They have a small plane that can leave in twenty minutes.”
“How small?” Haruka wanted to know.
“Six passenger,” the man responded. “Fushida-san has informed me that it is only the two of you, though. The plane can make it to Tokyo without stopping. You can be there in two and a half hours.”
“It sounds good,” Haruka said. “How expensive is it?”
“Not that it’s an issue,” Aster responded. “It’s not much more than two tickets. I told him that it was dependent on your agreement.”
“It sounds good enough,” Haruka said. “I’ll want to see the maintenance reports first, and a quick look under the hood of the plane.”
“Of course, Tenoh-san,” the man said. “Right this way.”
“One moment,” Haruka said. She turned to the phone again and called Hosyu back to give him their change of plans and estimated arrival.
While they walked towards the charter hanger, Haruka wondered why the man wasn’t asking about their lack of luggage.
“Fushida-san explained about your trip,” the man said. “It is a shame that your luggage was accidentally sent back to Tokyo. I am sure your next trip to Sapporo will be much better.”
“I’m sure,” Haruka said. She followed them to where the airplane stood, gleaming clean in the early morning light.
The pilot was waiting for them. At his superior’s word, he handed the maintenance log for the plane and opened the hatches that covered the engines.
Haruka looked over the book, and then looked inside both engine hatches before she turned to Aster and nodded.
“Everything looks fine,” she said. “Let’s go home.”
The two of them climbed into the plane and settled themselves, buckling the seatbelts while the pilot went through his preflight checks and got them ready for takeoff.
~*~*~*~*~
Aster reached over and shook Haruka awake. The taller woman had fallen asleep during the flight, and Aster had let her sleep, knowing that she would have very little rest until everyone was home.
Haruka looked out of the window next to her, and saw the familiar skyline of Tokyo as they taxied into Haneda Airport.
“I didn’t mean to fall asleep,” she said, sitting up.
“It’s okay, Odorikazu,” Aster said. “Your company is more than enough for me. I couldn’t sleep, so I figured that one of us should.”
“You need some rest, Sun Face,” Haruka said. “You’re going to drop if you don’t.”
“I’ll get some sun when we get home,” Aster said. “I’m hoping that my rest will be disturbed by some of the others calling and telling us where they are.”
“I understand,” Haruka said. She stayed quiet while they landed and disembarked from the plane.
Hosyu’s limousine was waiting. Washino was standing outside, next to Hosyu. Kenji was next to the open rear door. As they climbed out of the plane, Joben climbed out of the vehicle and stood at full height, his long hair whipping in the breeze.
They crossed the tarmac and Aster hugged her uncle first, and then her bodyguard. She greeted Joben with a heated embrace, and a deep kiss. They all got into the car and headed back to the Compound.
