“Good morning.” Yamato said. He had been awake for a few minutes. In those few minutes he found himself at peace as he was able to simply lay there and watch the person he loved rest peacefully. He had watched as the sun came in and spotlighted his brother. It lit the bedroom enough that Yamato could watch the covers rise and lower with every breath the thin blonde took. It was as if the Sun itself was smitten with his brother, and Yamato knew the feeling.
The younger blonde started to stir as if having yet another bad dream. Yamato watched, hoping that he would settle down, but he didn’t. Yamato reached out and pulled his brother next to him.
Takeru soon calmed down and then slowly his eyes cracked up. The first he saw was his brother’s icey blue eyes watching him, Takeru smiled, “Good morning Onii-chan.” He stretched out and found his brother’s hand. “This is always my favorite way of waking up in the morning.”
“Mine too.” Yamato said returning his younger brother’s smile.
The two brothers laid in their bed for while. Content to just lay next to one another and stare into each other’s eyes and feel the warmth shared between themselves. They reluctantly got out of bed to head to the kitchen. As they entered the hallway however they could hear a commotion around the corner in the kitchen. As they entered the kitchen they saw Taichi scrambling around the kitchen. The two brothers exchanged a surprised look.
“Taichi, what are doing up so early?” Takeru asked.
“It’s barely nine, did you just get in?” Yamato added.
Taichi turned around. A slice of toast hung from his mouth. “eh cooged breffest ef ou awnt fum.”
Yamato rolled his eyes, while he understood his friend, Yamato had been trying desperately to break Taichi of the horrid habit of speaking with a full mouth, regardless if it was all in vain. “Remember what we’ve talked about Taichi. You can’t talk with your mouthful and expect us to understand.”
Taichi tore the toast from his mouth and hurriedly ate it. “I said, I cooked breakfast if you want some.”
“Thanks, smells good.” Takeru said as he walked over to dish up.
“Still doesn’t answer what you’re doing up so early.” Yamato observed.
“A team dropped out of a small soccer tournament, so my Warriors fan club was picked up as a replacement team. We just got informed about it late last night.” Taichi explained.
“goof fo ou. Goof luf” Takeru mumbled through a piece of toast.
Yamato responded to his brother with a huff, while Taichi gave the young blonde a smile, “Thanks Takeru, I have a feeling we’ll need it. We weren’t expecting to play, so we may be a bit rusty.”
“I’m sure you’ll do fine Taichi.” Yamato calmly assured his friend.
Takeru swallowed before speaking this time, “Yamato’s right. If everyone else on your team has a quarter of the talent you do, you’ll win for sure.”
“You’re right. What was I thinking, with all the talent we have and with me leading us there’s no way we can lose” exclaimed Taichi said followed by a joyful laugh.
The two blonde brothers grinned. As Taichi left to fetch his gym bag out of his bedroom Takeru turned to his brother. “Taichi is a really good soccer player, right?”
Yamato nodded, “Yeah, he is. His soccer skills are one of the few things he doesn’t stretch the truth on.”
Takeru smiled, and with a laugh said, “I won’t worry about giving him too much false confidence then.”
Taichi soon departed for his soccer match and the brothers found themselves with an open weekend in front of them. But for Yamato there was a more pressing issue of deciding what to do for the weekend, He had to figure out what was bugging his little brother. “Is there anything you would like to talk about?”
Takeru looked up towards the ceiling, “Not that I know of.”
“Are you sure? There isn’t anything different going on in your life right now? There isn’t something that’s bugging you?”
Takeru got what his brother was talking about, but that didn’t mean he had to talk about. “Nothing too big Yamato, just the normal hassle.”
Yamato looked at his brother for a moment, “And you’re sure about that?”
Takeru nodded, “Yes, I’m sure. Now how about we go out and do something today?”
“Like what?” asked Yamato.
“I don’t know. Shop, eat, maybe catch a movie.” Takeru said.
“Sounds fine to me. Let’s get dressed and head out.” Yamato said, as he cleared the table of the dish.
As the two lovers started getting dress a quiet melody filled the room. Takeru picked up his cell phone and started at it briefly. He then hung up the phone and tossed it back on the bed.
“Who was that?” Asked Yamato.
“Oh…it was no one. I didn’t recognize the number.” Takeru said plainly.
The day itself was rather uneventful. The bus ran on time, the businesses weren’t too crowded, and their simple lunch of steamed buns were just as uneventful as everything else. However it was during each of these that Takeru’s cell phone would ring. Each time Takeru would glance at the number and for a few brief moments signs of contemplation appeared, but it always ended with Takeru simply hanging up or just not answering. It was that afternoon before the movie started that it rang again.
Yamato looked at his brother as he began looking at the cellphone, “Why don’t you just answer the phone already Takeru?”
“I…The movie’s about to start.” Takeru said before quickly hanging up and putting his phone away.
“So who has been calling you all day anyway?” Asked Yamato.
Takeru looked up at the movie screen, “I don’t know, it’s some number I don’t know.”
“I’ve told you before that lying doesn’t suit you.” Yamato pointed out.
Takeru gave his brother a confused look, “No you haven’t.”
It then dawned on Yamato that, all the times he had told his brother that were all the times before Takeru’s accident. “I’m pretty sure I have, you just don’t remember it.”
Takeru’s confusion gave way to annoyance. He didn’t like the fact that he still couldn’t remember anything before his accident. Instead he just scowled and turned to the screen.
Yamato continued his questioning, “So who’s been calling you?”
“What are you jealous?” answered Takeru with a smirk.
Yamato shook his head, “No. How could I be jealous of the person who you are avoiding?”
“Then why are you getting so offensive over these phone calls?” Takeru pointed out.
Yamato stammered, “Well…uhh…you see…”
Takeru cut-in, “what I see is that I haven’t taken a single call today because I wanted to spend it with you. And only you. But if you want me to take these calls and talk to them instead of you…”
Yamato sat there, taken aback by Takeru’s sudden ferociousness. “Whatever.” Was all Yamato said before he turned to face the screen. He then began to shovel hands of popcorn to his mouth.
Takeru let out a quiet sigh. He knew he had just been rather harsh to his brother, but he did it for his own good. If he told Yamato about his problems then he would be more distracted and bothersome trying to fix them than if he just stayed out of it and focused on his own problems. And the only way Yamato could remain focused on his own problems, was if he didn’t even know his brother’s problems in the first place.
After the movie neither brother had said anything to each other, making the walk and bus ride home filled with large levels of awkwardness. However once they stepped into the elevator at the apartment building the tension was too much. “Listen Takeru…I’m sorry about earlier. I didn’t mean to hound you about all those calls. It’s just… you haven’t gotten much sleep this past week, and I didn’t know if these calls were part of it. I didn’t know if it was Nancy trying to call you, or what. I was just worried that’s all.”
“I know Yamato. I didn’t mean to snap at you like that either. I… As you’ve said I haven’t got much sleep this week. Tests are coming up and I’m just nervous about them is all.” Takeru said.
“Well then, we’ll go bed early tonight. And then tomorrow I can help you with your studying. If I can’t help you, I can call Jyou over and he can help you.” Yamato said with a smile.
“I’d like that.” Takeru said with a smile. He gave his brother a slight peck on the lips, then stepped out of the elevator as the doors opened.
Yamato quickly followed his brother to the apartment door and unlocked the door. They hung up their coats. Kicked off their shoes. Locked the door. And headed down the hall for their early retirement. Just as they were headed past the living room they heard something that made them stop in their tracks. It was the sound of moaning. And it was coming from the living room. The two brothers looked at each other.
Yamato nodded down the hall but Takeru shook his head. Yamato this time pointed down the hall but Takeru pointed to the living room. Yamato glared at his brother, and it was during that glare that he saw the unmistakable sparkle of mischief in his brother’s eyes. Yamato tried to grab his brother but it was too late, he was already tip-toeing into the living room.
Takeru looked down at the two brunettes on the couch. It was obvious that the man on top was Taichi, and with a closer look Takeru knew who the girl on the bottom was. It was the girl that had came over with Taichi the week before and had ruined a perfectly hot make out session with his brother. Takeru began to grin as thoughts of payback flowed through his head. He had just opened his mouth to surprise the two lovers on the couch but before even a peep could be made a strong hand was placed over his mouth, and an arm around his waist.
The arm began to drag him out of the living room but Takeru was going to have his revenge. He leaned against the arm and struggled to free himself. Takeru licked the hand, causing Yamato to jerk his hand away. Insults, and witty comments flowed through Takeru’s brain. “H…” was all Takeru was able to get out before he was spun around and warm lips were placed on his. Takeru mumbled a few more words into brother’s mouth before he got distracted. His lips were betraying his brain, wanting to focus on the warm contact from his brother instead of the chance of vengeance against Amaya & Taichi.
Takeru’s lips and tongue continued slide against his brother’s, suddenly finding value in the old saying ‘it is better to make love than war’. It was once the kiss broke however that Takeru was able to regain the use of his lips. He turned his head to say something to the oblivious lovers on the couch but instead he felt his brother’s warm breath on his neck. And an erotic voice whispers gently in his ear, “tomorrow, I promise.”
For whatever reason, whether it was Yamato’s promise he could attend to it tomorrow, the need to release tensions raised by the past week or the fact the bedroom now held a much greater joy than staying to embarrassing the two lovers, Takeru allowed himself to be dragged to his brother’s bedroom.
Takeru’s mind awoke itself in the middle of another fight with Ken. So it awoke into a predicament. He could spend more time in his nightmares, battling a cruel despicable evil version of one of his friends. Or he could awaken, and deal with the harsh reality that those same dreams had ruined a friendship. He kept his eyes closed, unsure of which path to choose. Both were terrible and caused the blonde unwanted distress. He had to pick a poison; and it would be easier to accept a tattered friendship in a dream than in real life. He was drifting back off to sleep when he felt warm fingers run along his cheek. All thoughts of falling back asleep left at the touch from his brother. All worries were washed away by the sudden burst of love he felt. This glimpse of light made him forget all the darkness that encircled the world he was returning to.
Yamato’s fingers returned to his lover’s smooth cheek once he saw his eyes open. “Good morning”, Yamato said tenderly.
“Good morning Onii-chan.” Takeru replied as he scooted himself closer to his brother. He snuggled his head up gently against Yamato’s chest. “I love you.”
Yamato ran his slender fingers through the silkiness of his brother’s hair. Memories flooded Yamato’s mind of old dreams, and old memories. His hair may not be as long but it was still just as smooth. “I love you too Takeru.” He then tilted his head and kissed the top of his brother’s head.
The two lovers laid in bed, their warming arms wrapped around each other’s bare bodies as they laid exposed in the cool morning air. Their bodies laid still, their only movements were the expanding of their chests. Yamato wanted to stay like that forever, however a voice inside of him told him that Takeru needed a big brother again.
“Something bothering you Teeks?” Yamato asked.
There was a long pause before Takeru responded. “No, I’m fine.”
Yamato gave out a small huff, it wasn’t the answer he was looking for but he smiled anyways. “If you say so.” He then tilted his head and kissed the top of his brother’s head once more. First thing in the morning was not the most opportune time to push such an obvious touchy subject; it would just have to wait. “I’m off to make some breakfast.” As Yamato got dressed and made his way to the kitchen he knew now that there was something in fact bothering his brother. He just needed to find out what it was.
Yamato and Takeru had just sat down for breakfast when they heard Taichi’s door open and footsteps coming to the kitchen. Without looking up from his plate Yamato said, “There’s still some breakfast lift Taichi; help yourself.” Yamato then received a kick in the shin from his brother. When Yamato shot him a glare he realized that he was trying to get his attention. Yamato looked towards Taichi and saw him standing next to Amaya. Yamato cleared his throat. “Oh…well there should be enough breakfast left for two, if not I can make more.”
“I’m sure there’ll be enough.” Taichi reassured,” “Besides, Amaya and I have to get to warm ups so we just need a light breakfast.”
While Taichi and Amaya dished up their plates the kitchen was filled with an air of awkwardness. A type of awkwardness that could only had been created by previous actions and comments. Yamato decided to break the silence, “How did the games go yesterday?”
“Really good we won both our games yesterday, and made it into the finals today.” Taichi said.
“Taichi did outstanding yesterday. He scored three goals.” Amaya beamed.
“Congratulations Taichi! I knew you’d do well.” Takeru cheered.
Taichi shook his head, “It’s not as great as it sounds. All three goals were in the first game. I was shutout in the night game.”
Takeru grinned, “really Taichi? Looked like you scored last night on the couch.”
Taichi choked on the eggs. Amaya went bright red. Yamato spit out his tea. Takeru began to laugh hysterically.
Yamato jumped out of his chair and grabbed his brother. “Excuse us. I need to have a talk with my brother about PROPER breakfast conversations.”
Yamato dragged his brother to their bedroom, and once there he too began to join in on the laughter. While it was mainly coming from the younger blonde it was still loud and hearty. Once Yamato was done laughing however he let out a sigh and said, “You know you really shouldn’t have done that.”
Takeru just smiled at his brother, “I couldn’t resist it. I still don’t know why I didn’t do it last night.”
A smirk appeared on Yamato’s face as he looked at the bed, “I can’t believe you’ve forgotten already.”
Takeru couldn’t help but blush as memories from the previous night returned to his brain. It had been a wonderful evening. “Ah, but you said I could say something this morning, remember?”
The older blonde rolled his eyes, “Doesn’t mean you had to do it.”
More laughter filled the room, “And pass that opportunity up?” The laughter slowly died down after Takeru wiped his face with his hand “Excuse me while I go tidy up. Some crazy person spit tea on my face.”
Takeru had just closed the door behind him when a melody filled the air. Yamato looked around, and couldn’t find it. The melody continued to play. Yamato scoured the bed. It wasn’t there, and the melody got louder. Yamato finally found it in the pile of Takeru’s dirty clothes, “Hello?”
There was no answer.
Yamato pulled the phone away from his ear and began to look at the phone, making sure that he had made it in time as well as making sure that there was plenty of service. Finding no reason for silence Yamato returned the phone to his ear, “Hello?”
A shy sounding voice came over the phone, “Sorry.”
“Who is this?” Yamato asked, the voice sounded familiar but one word wasn’t enough to single the person out. “Sorry for what?”
“I’m sorry Yamato. I thought I called Takeru’s phone.”
“Oh. You did, sorry for the confusion. Takeru just slipped out for a minute, so I answered his phone. What do you need?”
“Well perhaps it’s best that I talked to you anyways. Is there a reason why Takeru has been avoiding me?” Ken asked.
Yamato’s mouth dropped slightly. His brother’s behavior had been different recently but he didn’t know that he had been avoiding one of their friends. Something was differently wrong with his brother, but he didn’t know what it was. How was he supposed to help his little brother, if he didn’t know what the problem was?
