Takeru entered the bedroom and saw his brother sitting at the desk. He noticed the serious face that his brother wore and it unsettled the young blonde. Takeru nervously walked further into the room. “Everything alright Yamato?”
Yamato let out a slight sigh, “Sit down Takeru, we need to talk.”
“If this is about what I said to Taichi, I’ll go apologize.” Takeru said still standing in the middle of the room.
“Actually Takeru, that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about.” Yamato gestured to the bed, “Sit down.”
Even though it was only a few feet, the walk to the bed felt like forever as Takeru’s mind began racing about what made Yamato so serious all of a sudden. He sat down on the bed and looked at his brother, “If you don’t want to talk about Taichi, than what do you want to talk about?”
Yamato didn’t bother to beat around the bush, “You’ve been acting really strange the past few weeks.”
Takeru hunched an eyebrow, “What makes you say that?”
“You haven’t been sleeping well, you’ve been confrontational, and most importantly you’ve been totally avoiding Ken.” Yamato explained.
Takeru was silent.
“I understand that you being so confrontational is from the lack of sleep. But I don’t know why you’ve haven’t been sleeping well and why you won’t even talk to one of your best friends.”
Takeru remained silent. What was the answer supposed to be? I dreamt my friend was an evil slave master and that’s why I don’t want to be around him? If he answered with that, Yamato would have his head examined. So instead of answering, Takeru just stared down at the floor.
Yamato stared at his brother. If he thought silence would make him give up he was wrong. He was truly worried about his little brother. It was then that thoughts of the previous mornings came to the forefront of Yamato’s mind. “It’s because you are having bad dreams again isn’t it?” He paused briefly to see if any answer came. It didn’t. “Takeru I know you’ve been having bad dreams again. So it’s no use trying to pretend that you haven’t.”
Takeru looked up slightly from the floor. “How did you know?”
Yamato shook his head, “I sleep with you remember. I feel when you toss and turn. I hear you cry out in your sleep. I can see your face distort in pain and anger.”
Takeru returned to his silence. What could he say, Yamato was right.
“So it is still the same dream you had months ago?” Yamato asked.
Takeru shook his head.
Yamato stood up and walked over to his brother and sat beside him. Yamato wrapped a protective arm around his little brother’s shoulders. “Whatever it is that you’ve been dreaming you can tell me Takeru. I’m here to help you.”
Takeru looked in the opposite direction of his brother.
“Hey.” Yamato reached and gently turned his brother’s head towards him. He leaned forward and place a reassuring kiss on his brother’s forehead like he had when they were younger. “I’m you’re older brother, and I love you Takeru. You can tell me anything.”
“It’s Ken.” Takeru said quietly.
“What about Ken?” Yamato questioned.
“The dream, it’s about Ken.” Takeru said. He paused and looked down at his feet again, feeling awkward about looking at his brother when describing such an unusual dream. He then proceeded to tell his brother about the dream. About Ken’s aura of evil, how he was condescending, and how every word he spoke dripped with malice. He told him about how he felt a strong anger towards him and how he felt he needed to be disposed of. He described the fight and how blood would be drawn in every fight.
If Takeru had indeed looked at his brother when he began telling the tale of his dream, he would have seen the surprise on his face when he first heard, followed by a look of deep thought. Have you had any other new dreams about the angel in your earlier dreams?”
Takeru shook his head. And turned away from his brother, while he may not of meant to, Yamato’s question made him feel crazy, dreaming of nonexistent angels and imaginary monsters. And it was once again that by not looking at his brother Takeru was missing something, as Yamato’s thoughts deepened and now he looked as if weighing two great possibilities.
Takeru let out a deep sigh, “I just wish I knew what these dreams meant.”
Yamato’s eyes sparkled as an idea flashed through his mind and a decision was made. “I think I know someone that could help you with that?”
Now Takeru turned towards his brother, excited at the possibility that someone could help him make heads or tails of the dreams he had had. “Who?”
“Yutaka. He’s helped me figure out my dreams before.” Yamato said
“You’ve had strange dreams before?” Takeru asked.
Yamato nodded. “Yeah, before we got together I had really strange dreams about us that he figured out.”
Takeru grinned, breaking the seriousness of the conversation. “What kind of dreams were you having about us?”
Yamato blushed deeply causing his brother to giggle. Yamato had to act quickly to change the subject. “Get ready, we’ll head over and see him.”
Takeru shook his head. “I don’t know Yamato. Akira said that he hasn’t been doing well since his fight with Koushiro. Shouldn’t we wait until he’s doing better?”
“He’s fine. Besides, if anything this will just help to keep his mind on other things.” Yamato assured.
“Actually Yamato, if I ask him about my dreams, I prefer to do it by myself.” Takeru said.
Yamato face became serious, “Alright then. Be safe.”
Takeru sat across from Yutaka. He looked at his friend as he laid on the couch, the light green of his hair matched the greenness in his cheeks. A wet cloth was draped over Yutaka’s eyes. His friend looked pale and his clothes were a mess.
Yutaka groaned out, “They sent you here to babysit me didn’t they?”
Takeru smiled, but shook his head. He knew that Yutaka had been in a perpetual state of drunkenness since his fight with Koushiro, but it honestly wasn’t why he was there, this realization caused pain to shoot through Takeru’s heart. He hadn’t come to his friend in his time of need. He had instead come to his friend in the time of his own need. “Actually, I needed to talk to you.”
“Oh, so they sent you here to torture me.” Yutaka said while rubbing his head, seeking relief from his head splitting headache.
“I know you’re hung over but I need to talk to you. I heard that you’re good with interpreting dreams. So I was hoping you could help me.” Takeru explained.
Yutaka began to grumble, “You know that dreams are just random shit your brain makes up while you sleep right?”
“But…”
“And since it is just random shit, you can’t interpret a dream. No matter how much you look at it, it’s still just shit, just like any other dream.” Yutaka snapped.
Silence fell over the living room.
Yutaka sighed, “Listen, get me a bottle of Tylenol and a big cup of tea and I’ll do whatever you want.”
Takeru smiled and within a few minutes he returned with the requested items. Yutaka sat up long enough to take the handful of pills and drink the tea before laying back down, placing the cloth over his entire face. “Alrighty then, fire away.”
Takeru began to describe his dream of Ken to Yutaka. Yutaka didn’t move, as he listened. In fact Takeru paused a few times to check to see if his friend was even still awake. He was. After Takeru was done explaining the last detail of his dream Yutaka took the cloth off of his face.
“Sounds like quite the dream you’ve been having.” Yutaka said.
Takeru just nodded.
“Well it sounds rather detailed, I’m rather surprised you remembered so much detail.” Yutaka said.
Takeru shrugged his shoulders, “I’ve had it a lot.”
“Which makes it even more interesting than the typical dream.” Yutaka pointed out. “Now firstly I need to ask if there is anything between you and Ken. Is there some rivalry? Jealousy? Do you feel inadequate around him?”
“Not that I know of. He was one of my best friends, why would he be my rival. And sure sometimes I do feel inadequate around him, but who doesn’t; he’s one of the smartest kids on the planet.”
“Well then, do you ever feel like he controls various situations? That he is too bossy?”
Takeru shook his head, “please, Ken? Controlling? He’s one of the most passive people I know.”
Yutaka let out a deep sigh and grabbed his head, “I think I could do this better if I didn’t feel like my head was splitting open.”
It was then Takeru’s turn to sigh, “Don’t worry about it. I’ll just ask you again later.”
“Are there any other dreams that have been repeating themselves, that I could use to maybe get a better understanding of your brain?”
Takeru paused a few moments. Unsure if he should mention his other dreams. The dreams that were dark, and made him feel crazy talking about. The dreams of his guardian angel and the demon. The dreams of the clown and his brother. “Actually there are.” Takeru began to describe his previous dreams. And as he explained to the drummer he could see his eyes widen as he began telling him about the guardian angel. Yutaka’s hand went up and stopped the blonde.
“Have you talked to your brother about this?” Yutaka asked hurriedly.
“Sort of. They’re not that easy to talk about.” Takeru said. “He told me that you could help me interpret my dreams.”
Yutaka’s eyes narrowed in thought, “Did he now?”
Takeru nodded.
“I think I know what you’re dreams are about Takeru. But it’s really not my place to talk about them with you. Ask your brother again, he can help explain it better than I could anyways.”
Takeru thanked his ill friend and after making him another cup of tea left him to his recovery. Takeru had the whole walk back to his brother’s apartment to decide what he would do.
He didn’t know what to do, as it seemed like Yamato wasn’t being honest about how much he knew about his dreams. But if Yamato wasn’t going to tell him for whatever reason, and Yutaka wasn’t going to tell him to make sure that he didn’t step on anyone’s toes, then who could he talk to in order to find the truth? Who he needed was someone that would tell him what his dreams meant while not fearing if they offended Yamato by telling him. A thought came to him, he knew this person, and where to find them. He just didn’t know that he would be comfortable enough to talk with them.
Takeru opened his brother’s front door and heard his brother talking to someone. “Damn it Yutaka, stop being a fucking hypocrite! You have no right to yell at me after all the bullshit you fed Koushiro.” “No Yutaka, they are different!” “They’re different because I’m doing it to protect him, not myself.” “They were the worst times of his life; he shouldn’t have to remember them.” “You don’t have any siblings Yutaka so of course you wouldn’t understand why I can’t tell him.” Yamato sighed, “Yutaka…I didn’t mean it like that.” “Sorry…” “I know he’s like a brother to…”
Takeru had heard enough, he closed the door loud enough for his brother to know he was home.
Yamato’s voice got suddenly peppy, “Listen Yutaka, Takeru just got in so I’ll talk to you later ok. Take it easy man.”
“Yamato?” Takeru called out.
“In here Teeks.” Yamato responded.
Takeru walked into the living room and saw his brother sitting on the couch. Yamato looked at his little brother and smiled, “So? Get that brain of yours straightened out?”
Takeru shook his head, “Nope Yutaka couldn’t really make heads or tails of it. He said that you could probably help me out more than he could.” Yamato’s eye twitch in response didn’t go unnoticed by the younger blonde. “So think you could help me?”
Yamato scratched his head, “Sorry Takeru, but I don’t know if I could help you more than I already have. I’m not good at the whole dream interpretation thing. That’s why I thought Yutaka could have helped you.”
“That’s ok Yamato. I’m sure we’ll figure something out.” Takeru now knew that Yamato was in fact keeping something from him. And his dreams were the key to it. If only he could understand his dreams, then he could figure out whatever it was that his older brother was keeping from him. Takeru had a plan to find the information needed but he didn’t know how he could ask the one person that would tell him. It was while thinking that Takeru’s stomach growled.
Yamato’s eyes fell to his brother’s stomach “Well there’s something I know I can you help you with. How about I scrounge us up some food? ”
As the two brothers walked into the kitchen Takeru saw textbooks peeking out from piles of paper that were strung about the kitchen table. Yamato looked down at the full table. “Sorry about the mess, I figured while you were gone I’d work on my homework.”
A light bulb went off in Takeru’s head. He had an idea now how he could get a break from his brother. “Speaking of homework Yamato, I talked with Iori on the way here and he said if I met him at the library that he would help me with my homework.”
Yamato sighed with relief. “Good, mine alone almost makes my head explode.”
An hour and a half later Takeru stood in front of a door. His stomach was in large knot. He was nervous about what was to come. He knocked on the door. His heart began beating faster. Thoughts of all the terrible consequences for his actions fled through his head, but it was too late to leave as he heard a voice on the other side. As he listened to the sounds of the door being unlocked a shiver went up his spine, had he done the right thing?

Author's Note: Another chapter up! YAY! Hope everyone is enjoy the holidays, I know I have been. It's a shame that I won't have anything to eat after all the holiday junk food is gone, but by that point I'll probably be able to make it a few months just burning off all the weight it added. Oh well it only comes once a year right? Anyways, back to story related stuff. As has obviously been seen is my lack of sticking to deadlines, what perhaps only I can see is I also have wavered from outlines and so the stories may be longer than I said a few months ago.
That all being said, I just want to thank all the people that take the time to read my stories and leave reviews. They are always the highlight of my day and very often my week. So THANK YOU SO MUCH!
