Awakening
Chapter Thirty-Five
By Arceus, Jolteon grew so quickly. It had been a month since you had...given birth to him and yet he had already tripled in size. He was about as large as a normal eevee now. Which, considering the fact that he'd fit inside of a sac the size of a grapefruit was quite the growth. And it was so strange to see too - like all of the other eeveelutions, normal Jolteons were in the three foot range from hunches to ground. That's just the size that they evolved into straight from being an eevee. Heck, even eevees were already at their max size when they hatched.
This little guy did not follow any of the rules. Not to mention you had the hardest time trying to keep everything a secret with him trying to root around for the first two weeks. If he'd been eating normal pokefood that wouldn't have been a problem. It was the fact that you had been lactating since the moment he'd been born like any human mother would for their child. And he had the instinct to suckle like any baby even though he had been able to walk just a few minutes after he was born. You had never even seen a pokemon with mammary glands outside of milktanks. It was so strange and it had created quite a few embarrassing situations over the last month.
Thankfully your pokemon (other than Jolteon himself) were good at trying to help you keep things hidden. They might not understand your embarrassment and shame but they understood that the day to day was a lot easier when they helped you out. Like pointing out when you were leaking through your bra the first week so that you could either make an excuse to get up or so you could spill something on yourself. You'd learned to wear full cupped bras with stuff to hide the leaks after that first week. They were also like a guard whenever you fed Jolteon which was quite often.
There was also the blessing that none of your pokemon put any pressure on you as far as sex went either. Anytime Ember even started to hint at something, Rorsh and Nox shut him up pretty quickly. You pretended you heard nothing when that happened. Which was why more than once you were thankful that no one else seemed to be able to understand pokemon the way you did. If normal humans understood anything, like when they start to talk about their child suckling from you, you weren't sure what you would do. Maybe die of embarrassment and shame. Or maybe you really would be thrown in jail...or used as a science experiment. There were so many things that could go wrong that it kept you up at night more often than not. One of the main nightmares that kept you from relaxing was the later of those options. If some mad scientist found out that you could not only understand Pokémon but you could breed with them that really would be a nightmare. You didn't want to imagine all of the combinations that could happen as they tried to repopulate a rare species. But you did. And each coupling you imagined seemed to get worse and worse. Just because a pokemon was rare did not necessarily mean there had to be more of them at your expense.
"You look worried."
Your body sort of jumped as Max took a seat near by. It was an exceptional day for the season so you had chosen to be outside for a bit. Your pokemon were a little bit away in the brush playing hide and seek with Jolteon. Every once in a while he would forget he was hiding and dart out to tackle anyone who was near. Ember and Eon seemed to be the easier targets compared to Rorsh and Nox. Though it was distracting enough on its own, that wasn't why Max found you so lost in thought. You were worried about what some greedy humans would do if they found out about you and your...baby.
But you couldn't tell Max that. So you came up with something else quickly. "Just worried about Jolteon. I've never seen an egg evolve."
While that was still true, it wasn't your biggest concern. Max nodded in understanding as he caught sight of the miniature pokemon.
"You're right. I've never seen that either. But I've never seen a lot of stuff that happens with you and your pokemon before."
He didn't know the half of it. Max most likely took your blush to be one borne from modesty rather than the severe embarrassment that caused it.
"So I think it's all about you. I think it's connected to what you can do. You're practically an honorary pokemon!"
Well you had mothered one. That was more information than he needed to know though. He also didn't need to know that most of your pokemon had been inside of you before they were ever inside a pokeball. Because you were still trying to digest what happened during those times. What, how, and why; those were the main questions you kept trying to come up with and understand an answer for.
That hadn't happened yet. You doubted it would happen as you watched a game of hide and go seek. Though at that point the game was more like hide and pounce as the others subtly started to train Jolteon.
"Why are you dodging your parents' calls?" Max asked after five minutes of quiet.
It was almost like he couldn't enjoy the peace that came with silence. You on the other hand valued it more than you used to. As you figured out what to tell him without sounding like a spoiled child, you watched as Nox walked towards you and Max. He looked tired. Which was no wonder - he was meant to be more of a nocturnal pokemon after all. He was the one who tended to guard everyone at night while you were camping.
You brushed your hand through his fur on refer flex as he came to lay down for a nap. The weight of his head over your legs was familiar and the feeling of his fur was calming.
"They want me to compete and battle with my pokemon to bring attention to the farm. That's why they gave me Ember, my Flareon," You began to speak towards Max. Even though you were speaking in possessive terms that made you feel a little guilty. It only propagated the concept that pokemon were slaves. "They trained him to fight because they knew I wouldn't and then they gave him to me."
"Okay. But plenty of people do that. Actually I'd say everyone but you battles their pokemon. You're the strange one because you won't."
Gee, just what you wanted to hear.
"I'm strange because I don't want to treat them like slaves? Because I don't want to order them to get hurt or hurt others for the purpose of my own glory?" You tossed back at him. "Ralts is now staying with you. I want you to imagine his voice. Now imagine hearing him in pain inside of your head. Maybe desperate to win the fight despite being in pain because he thinks...knows that's what you want."
This time it was Max's turn to go quiet. What you said resonated through his head. You could see a cornucopia of emotions run over his face as he thought about what you said.
"In Kalos they have performances where you don't have to battle pokemon," Max offered as though the thought never struck him before. "If your parents just want you to get out there and practice commanding your pokemon around, a pokemon showcase would be perfect!"
He was missing one big thing though. "In Kalos? How would that help our farm if I perform all the way over there?"
To that quickly returned question, Max had no answer. He looked like you had popped his balloon. Oops. You hadn't meant to do that. He did give you something to think about after all.
