CHAPTER 36
Takumi's voice was harsher than Keisuke had ever heard. "Mogi, I love the person I'm dating now. Sumimasen for being brutal, but I've tried to be nice so I wouldn't hurt your feelings. I understand that you did those things because of your okāsan's health problems. However, you need to stop trying to force me into taking you back. I'm not going to change my mind. I've tried to tell you nicely time and again so you wouldn't fall back into your old ways. I'm getting tired of you ignoring, or twisting everything I say."
Keisuke's jealous temper flared hotter as Mogi opened her mouth yet again to argue with his beloved. Takumi was his, and had stated that fact very clearly. The irate blond cut the whiny little bitch off before she could voice a new guilt trip. "You heard Fujiwara. He doesn't want you so get lost!" Keisuke noted Takumi's worried glance in his direction. "I'll put you back in that car to get rid of you if you continue making a scene!"
Keisuke stepped toward the object of his fury, ready to back his threat. He would not allow the self-absorbed little whore to hurt Takumi any longer. He refused to stand by while she unloaded any more sick, delusional demands on his boyfriend. Whether she liked it or not, Takumi had made his choice crystal clear.
Takumi got between them before it crossed Keisuke's mind that his lover might block his path to the one who posed a real threat. Mogi's expression reflected a deep, rabid hatred directed at him. Keisuke could feel Takumi's fingers shake as he pressed a hand to his chest as Takumi pleaded with him. "Matte, Keisuke san, calm down."
In a flash, Keisuke recalled how he had not understood where the true danger was when he had faced his own stalker. Keisuke's mistake had almost gotten him killed because he had not understood how dangerous Akiho was. He still bore the scar from a bullet that had missed its mark. Now, Takumi was making the same mistake. Keisuke felt a wave of panic. Tingles of alarm slid down his spine as Keisuke fought to keep a clear head. Mogi grabbed her purse and began to fumble inside it. A premonition morphed into certainty.
"You're the one that poisoned Takumi against me! You're probably the one who pushed Takumi kun into dating that new onna too! I can prove I've changed. Natsuki's the only one for Takumi. So stop interfering with us!"
Keisuke grabbed onto Takumi's upper arms as she reached into the bag. Something was in Mogi's hand as the street lamps, and flood lights from van two glinted off the dark metallic surface. He shoved Takumi hard away from him as he bellowed, "Get behind something, Takumi."
Keisuke glanced Takumi sliding across the asphalt. The blond lunged for the deranged woman before Mogi could turn the weapon on Takumi. A sharp crack rent the air. Keisuke's feet slipped backward because of a hard impact to his side. He knew this sensation. Memories of the last time he had been in this much danger surfaced with a vengeance.
'Akiho's angry face, "You bastard! You never loved me. I was just a damned doll you wanted on a string!" . . . . The hand gun wavered in trembling hands, as she sobbed, and screamed. Keisuke froze as he tried to figure out how to calm Akiho down. Words never affected Akiho. She tried to point the gun at his head but it continued to shift around so much that Keisuke found himself hoping she'd drop it.'
Keisuke still wondered if Akiho had pulled the trigger by blond gritted his teeth against the pain he knew to expect as he felt the bullet tear through his back when it exited his left side. He was determined to take Mogi down. She was not shaking as Akiho had, which increased Keisuke's determination to stop her. He sought to advance only to discover that he couldn't breathe. His lung erupted in flames as Keisuke tried to maintain his balance. His legs buckled without warning, pitching him forward onto his face.
Sick realization that Mogi had shot him in a vital area took hold. The blond tried to find the strength to get up. His hands grabbed his wounded side out of instinct. Keisuke tasted blood in his mouth as a bizarre bubbling bloomed within the damaged half of his chest. He heard the odd tone in his own gasped attempt to breathe. Keisuke tried to focus his eyes to find Takumi's position.
An eerie inhuman sound shot ripples of fear skating along Keisuke's spine. The bell like toned undulation split the panicked commotion all around Keisuke's position. Something primal, untamed, and proud echoed in the battle cry that overturned the bedlam of everyone else's shrieks of panic. Keisuke tried to force his body to cooperate with his will. The blond redoubled his mental command to move so he could find Takumi before Mogi.
Keisuke forced his body to shift enough to find the younger man he loved. Takumi was surging to his knees as a black shadow flashed between them, and out of Keisuke's constricted vision. His world began to shrink as a dark ring formed around the edge of his sight and began growing. Takumi had one foot on the pavement as a hand braced the ground. He still needed to get his other knee off the pavement. His younger lover sought to get his weight onto his planted foot to get up to run. Takumi pushed hard, surging upward. Another gun shot rang out, and Takumi's leg crumpled. The teen went down hard onto his stomach.
Keisuke closed his eyes as he sought to find enough reserves to get to his wounded partner. He heard the third gunshot, and his mind pictured Mogi putting a bullet into Takumi's head. Keisuke felt his heart stutter in an uneven rhythm. He had failed to protect Takumi from the twisted woman and it hurt like hell.
Keisuke heard Takumi scream his name through the haze of physical misery. Had his ears actually heard his darling? Or, had Takumi's voice only registered after the third blast penetrated his senses? Keisuke tried to speak. He had to confirm that he had heard Takumi. Was his lover still able to call out to him? How bad was Takumi injured? He knew A bullet probably had hit Takumi's leg, but Keisuke could not be certain about the third gunshot he had heard.
Keisuke forced his eyes open to see Takumi moving toward him, dragging his injured leg, terror etched into his face. Keisuke wanted to scream at Takumi to stay still for his own well being, but the words would not come. He closed his eyes again and tried to shore up his willpower to make himself heard. He had to get Takumi to be still.
Takumi's voice demanded his attention. "Keisuke? Answer me!"
Ryosuke's voice, closer to his ear, almost drowned out his lover's as it demanded, "Let me see how bad your wound is, Keisuke." He felt fingers trying to pry his hands away from the center of agony that maimed Keisuke's ability to move. Keisuke refused to release his side as he focused on how to make himself heard by Takumi. Keisuke felt hands that grabbed his arm and pushed to get him on his back. The blond kept his eyes closed with his teeth clenched when the pain intensified.
"Keisuke?!" Takumi's frightened voice demanded his attention. Keisuke refused to roll onto his back, because he was in agony.
Ryosuke's forceful words rang against Keisuke's ears. "Move, Fujiwara! . . . Keisuke, you have to let me see your side!" His brother barked the order as fingers attempted to wrench his hands away from his injured side.
Takumi bellowed, "Keisuke, you have to stop fighting! We have to help you!"
Keisuke felt someone shove hard against his shoulder, and push him onto his back. The pain increased beyond understanding as his body was forced to uncoil. Keisuke was certain that he smelled Takumi's scent through the blood smell that clogged his nose, and mouth as the weight of someone held him on his back. Keisuke wanted to scream but air could not get into his throat. His lungs could not force enough air to make the sound he was desperate to unleash. He felt his body spasm in reaction to the unbearable torment his nerves endured over being forced into the new position.
Keisuke felt his world shrinking as his awareness marched toward pitch black. Wetness on his cheek followed. Someone lifted and rested his head upon something. Keisuke forced his eyes open. He looked at Takumi's tear streaked face. The teen's lips moved as his hand held the side of Keisuke's face.
"Ta . . . k, . . ." Keisuke tried to tell him he loved him, but could not get the sentence out as his body began to jerk again.
He felt the warmth of Takumi's fingers brush across his lips and felt a deep resentment that he could not kiss the frightened man crying on him. Keisuke knew Takumi was speaking but heard nothing said. A loud ringing drone clogged his ears. The warmth of Takumi's fingers was the only sensation Keisuke felt other than pain. He wanted to tell Takumi he was grateful that he was alive.
Keisuke found enough strength to grab his younger lover's hand. He wanted to calm Takumi if possible. Keisuke felt Takumi's hand wrapping tightly around his. His vision was murkier as he tried to look at Takumi's anguished expression, Eyelids felt lead lined, yet Keisuke fought to keep them open. The warmth of Takumi's hands felt wonderful as his eyes blurred, vision darkening faster. Takumi's face blurred above him.
Movement close to Takumi's head came together in Keisuke's mind as his vision failed. Keisuke could not grasp details beyond distant sensations. Warmth seemed to slide across his upper body and then jerk away within the space of a heartbeat. Something had happened to Takumi, and Keisuke was positive. The certainty that Takumi was attacked registered while Keisuke spiraled into dark, pain tossed nothingness.
The darkness continued to shift, and change in texture as Keisuke fought to return to the surface. Discomfort came and went as Keisuke struggled to awaken. Some part of the blond's being could not tolerate his own ignorance. Had Takumi been attacked by Mogi again? What was the blur he had seen as his eyes failed?
Keisuke's need to check on Takumi kept him focused on getting his eyes open. Fear raged through the part of himself that clung to existence. Keisuke felt reduced to an ember as the stubborn blond battled the impression of drowning within darkness. The wheat-haired racer found himself in twilight dreams where Takumi's voice called out for him. He tried to find the teenager within erratically shifting environments.
Keisuke found Takumi as the landscape slid into a parking lot. He charged toward his beloved who sat on his car hood with sorrow etched upon his features. The amber-haired youth's eyes reflected the depth of his hurt in blue-gray, murky hues. Keisuke wrapped an arm around Takumi's waist from the side as the teen jumped. Takumi looked embarrassed as he snapped at him. Keisuke knew something was wrong with the way the teen was acting. He tried to get an answer from his beloved as he wrapped him inside his arms. He felt the other man relax within his hold. Keisuke knew he was about to win over the confused younger man he could not lose.
A barrier rose between Keisuke and his wounded lover. The invisible barrier forced him away from Takumi. The youth continued reclining on his car's hood with a hurt expression. Takumi and the hachi roku dissipated into mist. Fighting the boundary, Keisuke was flung back yet again. Keisuke tried to reach the sad eyed youth that he wanted to console with every fiber of his being.
Takumi's hand had his wrist in a locked grasp to prevent him from running his hands across his crotch again. Keisuke smiled at Takumi as the teen got increasingly flustered. The younger man leaned against his hachi roku's fender, fidgeting from being kissed into arousal. "Keisuke, I'm not sure what this is going to turn out to be."
"Gay relationships are a lot like other relationships, Takumi. There are couples that stick to masturbation and foreplay because that's what they like the most. Others like full-blown sex. I don't care which way we go if you're happy being with me." Keisuke was amused as he nipped Takumi's neck, and felt the teen's grip loosen slightly. "I want to see your face when you cum. Is that so bad?" The blond whispered in Takumi's ear as he slid his hand across the hard ridge of his younger lover's pants. He heard Takumi's hiss as he unsnapped his pants. "Let me get you off, lover."
Another scene rose.
"You want to know what happens next?" Keisuke pulled his shirt off with a grin. 'I'll get you to make love with me. I know why you panic now. Trust me, Takumi. I'm not going to leave you ever,' raced through Keisuke's mind. The sound of the small falls thrummed in the background as he watched Takumi hesitate. Keisuke knew he had Takumi's curiosity roused. "Then again if you can't trust me, you can say iie."
During the seven weeks they had been dating, Keisuke had wormed his way under the younger man's defenses too often to be concerned that he would fail to get his way. Takumi was very competitive, and that was an easily exploited weakness. Takumi sat up and pulled his own T-shirt over his head with a shy smile. Keisuke pounced as his thoughts turned into a gloat of victory.
'I've got you hooked now, Takumi. I'm going to prove that I won't abandon you. I'll make certain you never want anyone but me after today. Let's find out just how many ways I can turn you on, and blow your mind. I know you're worried about being forced into things you aren't ready for, but that's not going to happen.'
Keisuke delighted in every surprised or blatantly turned on noise he drew from Takumi's throat while exploring his inexperienced lover's body. A hiss from Takumi as Keisuke licked a nipple sent a devious thrill through the blond's mind as he decided to see how horny he could make Takumi.
The landscape shifted with another unexpected lurch that tossed Keisuke back into the dark nothingness. Struggling hard, Keisuke found himself in another familiar place.
Takumi's eyes closed as his body arched in ecstacy. His hands clamped around Keisuke's upper arms in a painful vice grip as his nails caught against his skin and dug in. Keisuke fought his eyes' partial closure with a flash of resentment as he lost the battle to prevent himself from orgasming. Rapture interrupted his delight with his lover's newest discovered ecstacy. Takumi's rippling muscles sucked Keisuke into orgasm. Flowing pulses of release separated him from his enjoyment of his beloved's experience. Takumi's displays of trust and love were everything Keisuke craved as he sought to bind the shy man he held even closer to him.
"I'll never let you go, Takumi." Keisuke wondered if he spoke out loud while shuddering in Takumi's arms.
Keisuke felt a strange, nebulous warmth that he could not quite pinpoint on the edge of his existence. It swept the pleasure of Takumi's passionate embrace away. Keisuke tried to break through the heavy weight trapping him when the image of his beloved disintegrated. He fought to get to the warm connection he felt. It had to be Takumi's hand. Keisuke heard a faint voice tell him that Takumi wanted to talk to him, but he had to wake up for that to happen. It sounded like Aniki's voice echoing from a great distance. Worse, Aniki sounded very upset about Takumi. Keisuke had to get to Takumi to insure he was safe. If Takumi wanted to talk, it meant that he was alive. Mogi had failed to kill him.
Keisuke felt a wave of pain that rocked him to his foundations. The unpleasant rhythmic sensation almost caused him to cave to the desire to let himself sink back into his dreams. The cyclical torture was ignorable while it hovered on the edge of his awareness. Keisuke had been focused on images and memories of Takumi so the pain was inconsequential.
Now the pain demanded Keisuke's full attention. It threatened to tear his determination to awaken apart. Frustration ate at the temperamental blond as the tenuous contact with that warmth withdrew. He needed the gossamer anchor to swim through the haze clouding his mind with waves of misery.
'Takumi wants to talk to me. I'm not going to let him down. Not now. I've got to wake up like Aniki said.'
The blond railed at the intangible wall pushing him back toward the pitch blackness. Keisuke fought hard against each wave of agony as he focused his anger into a battering ram against the obstruction keeping him away from the most important part of his life.
Sounds began to pierce Keisuke's awareness. Beeps, and a strange noise reminiscent of a turbo's blow-off valve began alternating in his mind. Something connected the blow-off valve sound to the waves of pain Keisuke felt. Part of Keisuke recoiled from the hell his nerves relayed. Keisuke's nerves begged for a full retreat from the agony to which the noise seemed attached. An image of Takumi's tear-covered face rose. Without heed for the pain, Keisuke bent his entire being into the task of clawing his way to the surface.
Keisuke's eyes opened. Brilliant blue-white light drove twin lances into his skull. The blond almost caved to the desire to close his eyes so he could stop the additional discomfort. The blow off noise again whistled close by his head. The agony that lanced though the left side of his chest made the previous dark trap seem a welcome haven.
'Where's Takumi?'
The moment the thought formed, Keisuke narrowed his eyes and tried to move his head. He found that he could not move. His throat hurt, and Keisuke felt like gagging. The blond felt nauseous which made matters worse. Blinking, the exhausted man focused on the source of the bleeping tones he heard to the right. His vision began clearing. A large ridged tube was the first thing Keisuke recognized. He let his eyes move down his nose and contemplated the obstruction.
'Is that in the way of my throat?'
Keisuke tried to lift his arm to remove the tube once thought prompted that it was the object gagging him. His arm was too heavy to move. He noted a twitch, yet his fingers did not obey the mental command. He tried to understand where he was. Someone had suspended a bag on a metal rod. A tube dropped and vanished from his sight. White walls and a glimmer of several blinking lights at the edge of his eyesight confused him.
"Welcome back, Takahashi san." A distinctive male voice spoke from somewhere near his feet.
A man in a white coat, face mask, and cap stepped into view. Keisuke's mind clicked. He was in a hospital. His lung was on fire, and he wanted to puke. The blond tried to recall why he was there. Images began to surface as Keisuke looked up at the man who busied himself with something that beeped near his head.
"You will be fine in a few days. We have you on a ventilator in case you're wondering about the tube in your mouth. Please refrain from attempting to remove it, or biting down. Your lung might collapse if it's removed too soon. You needed extensive surgery to repair your left lung."
'Where's Takumi?' Keisuke's mind screamed. 'I don't care how long it took to put my lung together. Damn you say something about Takumi. I need to know that he's safe, baka!'
Keisuke's temper ignited as he listened to the stranger's useless prattle. "Your family will be relieved that you're awake, Takahashi san. I know you must be in considerable pain, but we can't give you a strong pain killer until you can awaken easily when I check on you. I'll make sure you get something to help you cope. We can't have you slide into a coma because we gave you something too strong."
Keisuke tried to make a fist. His fingers twitched, but would not obey. The blond wondered how long he'd have to wait until someone had enough sense to tell him about Takumi's welfare.
'Please, Kami sama, let Takumi be alive and safe. Damn it, Aniki, get your ass in here and tell me how Takumi is already. I'll go insane until I get some answers. I need to know what was happening when I was blacking out. Something happened to my baby, and I know it! Would someone tell me how Takumi is doing already?'
Keisuke's eyes drooped as his ferocious battle to regain consciousness took its toll. He slid back into sleep as his mind grumbled questions he could not get answered.
