A/N: This is just a short chapter to show you that the story is not dead. I'm mentally working over the next chapter already; this is kind of a transitional section of the chapter. I will edit it later and add on the rest of it at a later time.
Awakening
Chapter Thirty-Six
Saying goodbye to Max as he started on his own Pokémon journey hadn't been as hard as you would have thought. You were sad that you wouldn't get to see him every week, sure, but the pain at knowing you might not see your friend for a long time wasn't as bad as you would have thought. Maybe it was because you knew that Ralts would look after him. Psychic pokemon could be very attentive after all; you knew that from experience.
Besides it wasn't like you would stay at home being reminded that you hadn't been able to maintain any other friends growing up. You had decided to take Max's advice and do the pokemon showcases. Which meant that you needed to head to Kalos. So you gathered your savings from all the work you had done on the ranch and headed off. The one way cruise line ticket had been expensive but being crowded on an airplane didn't feel like the right thing to do.
Thankfully once you'd gotten off at a port city it had been easy to catch a bus to the first city in the showcase circle. Lagoon town had very modern architecture with many of the public buildings having high sweeping ceilings and plenty of tall windows.
Once you'd gotten off of the bus and away from the crowd, you released all of the eeveelutions from their respective balls. They had been stuck inside for the whole bus ride. And like you were probably anxious to stretch their legs.
"Where to first?" Rorsh asked as he stretched out his back and yawned.
"Well we will need to find a hotel," you told them honestly. "But I doubt I'll find one that will let all of you be out at once if they saw you."
5 pokemon was a lot after all. And with the way that some of the people had slowed down to take pictures of the eeveelutions gathered near you in a sloppy half circle you had a feeling that your assortment was going to draw in a good amount of attention. Thankfully Jolteon had gotten nearly to his full height on the ship ride over. Otherwise having a Pygmy Jolteon probably would have gotten a lot of unwanted attention. As it was he just looked like a runt, undersized.
"We need to find a decent hotel first though," you commented as you shifted your weight from one foot to the other. "So I guess that means we need to explore the city."

It had taken a lot of effort to get your pokemon to the point that they agreed to let you walk around without them after finding the hotel. You wanted them to rest up in case you decided to enter the Showcase the next day. Ember wasn't as hard to convince. Rorsh and Nox had been the most stubborn. You'd gotten them to stay behind by promising to bring Eon with you. The yin yang eeveelutions weren't completely happy but you'd stayed firm on not bringing a whole litter of pokemon with you while you went out to get information about pokemon Showcases. It as actually surprising that they left you at all but you were very grateful for it at the same time. Even if you still had a pokemon walking around with you it was less stifling that way.
You needed some time away from them after the whole ship ride. Some time to just relax and let go of all the tension. Maybe digest some of the progress that you'd made shut away on a ship. Max had once jokingly called you an honorary pokemon; he might have been right. There were a lot of things that you could do that only pokemon seemed to have been able to do. And you'd tried practicing what you knew of on the ship. It had been exhausting. Not only physically but the shift in the paradigm that you'd been raised with was mentally exhausting. Getting away from it all, letting your mind relax and not being reminded of it every time they spoke, would be good for you. Or so you thought when you battled with your pokemon to let you out. Maybe that was why Rorsh hadn't fought you nearly that hard; you'd gotten off pretty slightly all things concerned.
"Ice-cream!"
So much for the quiet. You watched as Eon barked 'ice-cream' over and over again the closer you and he got to the ice-cream shop. You moved into the parlor and got him a scoop in a bowl.
"That's a beautiful Sylveon," The parlor attendant said as you licked on your own small cone. "He's a shiny right? I don't think I've ever seen a shiny Sylveon."
"He is," you acknowledged.
"He's gorgeous and it's so cute that he's eating ice-cream without getting messy."
"Tell her thank you."
And you almost did. You caught yourself midway through opening your mouth to express Eon's gratitude towards the compliment. You were able to stop before anything came out and you glanced down to see Eon continuing to eat. He looked up with an innocent expression as you stared at him pointedly.
"Do you know where I can find out about pokemon Showcases?" You asked the attendant instead of relaying Eon's words. "I'm new to the region but I wanted to try and participate."
"You've seen them on the TV right?"
You bit your lip and gave a guilty smile. "No."
"Oh wow. Well I'd suggest watching one first. They explain how it's all set up before each match. And you're in luck - the next one is tomorrow."
You nodded slightly. That was why you'd come scheduled everything the way you had. You wanted to compete in it but the ice-cream lady brought up a certain wisdom. You really should watch at least one of them before you tried to compete in one. It would give you a better insight into how they played out compared to simply reading about it. Words were dry imitations of the truth after all.
