Disaster

Sorry, gang. Totally brain dead. Thanks for the reviews.

********Abel took a swing at the hologram, knowing it would do absolutely no good but he felt the need to do *something*. He caught a red flash from the corner of his eye and turned in time to see Circe almost hit the ground. Fortunately, Hugue had excellent reflexes and caught her before she crashed into the cement.

“What’s wrong with her?” Hugue asked, his eyes wide and worried.

“Most likely overload from the carnage. She did this during the wars as well,” Gun explained.

//Goddess, I hate to push you but we need you in Rome. Now! Too much fire for Circe to handle alone. Plus I think the empathics from everyone panicking are causing her to have a meltdown.//

//On my way. Can you hard shield her?//

//Not very well at the moment as I’m trying to block the panic around us enough to keep myself from collapsing.//

//I’ll get her.// said Oracle’s smooth, deep voice through the common link they all held. Within seconds the three men around Circe saw someone moving toward them. Hugue looked from the man walking toward them to the woman cradled in his arms and without being told who the other man was he stood and started to walk to him, carrying Circe with him.

“Probleme est?” Oracle asked, one eyebrow raised slightly as he reached to take Circe from Hugue’s arms.

“Aucun problème. Elle est sûre avec son père.”

“Vrai.”

//Got her, Brad?// came the anxious question from Circe’s other father.

//Of course. Don’t fuss. You know she hates it.//

//Mein gott, that’s like asking me not to breathe.//

One of Circe’s eyes cracked open a little. “Dad?”

“Yes?”

“You know I didn’t really mean it.”

“Didn’t really mean what?”

“That you and Mater needed to get over being so concerned about me.”

Oracle grinned a little. “As though we would,” he said, shifting her in his arms. “Can you stand now?”

“I think so. It just hit me hard because I wasn’t really expecting it.” She stood, supported by her father for a minute then shifted her own weight to stand alone. “Thanks.”

“Anything for my girl. Do you need help with anything else?”

“I really don’t think you can help with the other things we have to do, Dad,” Circe said honestly. “I feel Blaze in the area so the fire should be at very least controlled soon if not extinguished entirely. All of the perpetrators are gone from the area, so there isn’t any threat there. But there are *many* who need a healer and more who need the blessings of a priest,” she said, glancing back at Abel and Hugue.

Blaze shook her head sadly as she hovered over the rapidly burning buildings of Rome. The smell of burned skin and hair was nearly enough to send her higher and out of the smoke. But she had been in similar circumstances before and knew what needed to be done. Her red and gold wings unfolded and she consciously tapped into her power and control over flame.

“Cuibheas,” she said, stretching her hands out before her. The fire seemed to pause in mid flicker as though it had been frozen in place. “Bàsaich.” The flames diminished and died without so much as another flare. She flew down and settled carefully on one of the crumbling parapets of what had been the Vatican. “There are times when I sincerely wish I were a healer,” she said to herself.

//Skye, Star, Jeirn, you’re needed here in a healer capacity. There isn’t anything else we can fight just now.//

//On our way, Goddess. Do you have a damage estimate?// Skye asked.

//Only what I can feel without doing a real body count.//

//Dead?//

Blaze sighed and pressed the heels of her hands into her closed eyes. //Thousands dead. Probably just as many injured, half of those won’t last out the night.//

//We’ll do what we can, Goddess.//

//That’s all anyone can do.//
