The trip to Kiyashi Ward is mainly uneventful if a bit cramped and with them standing for the majority of the ride there, though Shōto is certain that Aizawa-sensei is tailing them. He hasn't seen any direct evidence to support it, but then Aizawa-sensei is just that good. Or maybe being sent back to his younger body has impacted the survival skills he has gained in that last year. It is something worth testing and maybe bringing up to Tōya and Izuku to see if they are similarly affected.
"What should we get first?" Izuku asks as they leave the crowded station, Shōto on his right and Tōya on his left, and they're holding his hand on their respective side. Mostly so they don't get separated. Definitely because they can.
"Phones," Tōya suggests, and Shōto finds himself nodding in agreement. Having the means to communicate is an absolute must, and he honestly misses having a phone. Granted, he has a phone in his possession right now, lent to him by Fuyumi-nee, but he should get one for himself too.
"Okay then," Izuku responds, his expression becoming thoughtful, and he slows his pace a little, which has Shōto and Tōya slowing down to match him. "DoCoMo has the better coverage but going with them, SoftBank or au means that it will be more difficult to leave in the future, whereas an MVNO using DoCoMo's network would be cheaper, but we would have to order the phones online and set everything up ourselves because the three major service providers will not offer in-store assistance for them, even if it is their own MVNO."
Shōto blinks once in response to the information, then glances at Tōya to find a frown marring his brother's face. "We'll go with DoCoMo for the coverage," he decides for them, drawing both of their gazes to him. "The rest doesn't really matter because we can just get new numbers down the road and our father can deal with DoCoMo, seeing as he's going to be paying for this," he adds, and Tōya's frown is immediately replaced with a sharp grin while Izuku considers the idea for a moment.
"Then we'll go all-out. Top of the line phones with unlimited call and data plans," Izuku finally says, and with the decision made, they pick up their pace.
It takes them several minutes to reach the mall and another several to find a tech store, which is coincidentally located in the central plaza where Shigaraki had held Izuku hostage. Shōto tries not to scowl as they pass by the bench where it happened, which honestly isn't the bench's fault, but it's a losing battle.
"You okay over there, otōto?"
"I'm fine, niisan," Shōto answers with his gaze still on the bench, but the abrupt tug on his hand has his attention snapping to Izuku, who is giving him a flat look.
"You were glaring at that bench like it had personally wronged you," Tōya points out, and Shōto opens his mouth to argue that it's not the bench but the memory attached to it, but Izuku squeezes his hand quite hard, and he shuts his mouth with an audible click.
"You weren't even there when it happened, Shōto," Izuku reminds him in a stern tone, his gaze almost steely, but after a beat or two, he sighs and loosens his grip on Shōto's hand. "And that's not the bench where Shigaraki threatened to kill me anyway."
Shōto is quite sure that it is, but he decides that it is not worth it to argue with Izuku about this. "I'm sure Uraraka was mistaken when she pointed it out to me," he concedes, and Tōya huffs impatiently.
"Can we go get phones now?" His brother gives him a rather pointed look as if to say that he should drop the conversation right this moment and never bring it up again.
"Yes," Izuku states with another squeeze to Shōto's hand, and then he tugs them forwards. "We still have lots of shopping to do, so we should get a move on."
Phone shopping is relatively painless, and they have new phones in their pockets some thirty minutes later. After that, they go to get Tōya and Shōto measured for fire-resistant clothes. It's more or less a disaster when the store clerk asks Tōya to show them how hot his flames can go, which leads to Shōto having to ice over the inside of the store while Izuku gives the store clerk the dirtiest look he can manage. Thankfully Tōya had the presence of mind to let Izuku hold on to his phone; otherwise, it would have ended up a melted chunk of plastic and glass, but his borrowed school uniform is absolutely ruined.
"That was my spare uniform!" Izuku laments, and Tōya scowls at the store clerk as they leave the store with promises of heavily discounted clothes for all three of them. All made from the highest quality fire-resistant cloth that exists, of course. And with a set of new clothes for Tōya to wear, on the house, seeing as he can't wear Izuku's spare uniform anymore.
"Does it cost anything to have it replaced?" Shōto quietly asks as they head away from the clothing store.
Izuku sighs at first, and then he looks at Shōto. "It cost around 30,000 yen to start with and will cost the same to replace it, which my mom can afford now, but it's still rather expensive."
"Ah." Shōto slows his pace as he frowns in thought. "Can't we just charge the cost of the replacement to our father's card?"
"We…could," Izuku answers slowly, and then he also frowns. "I don't want to take things too far, but I think mom and Fuyumi-nee would want us to."
Shōto blinks a couple of times in confusion over how Izuku refers to his sister, not even thinking to question who 'mom' might be, and comes to a complete stop. "Both of you promised to tell me everything after school," he reminds them as they both turn to look at him.
