"We did," Izuku confirms, and he takes a moment to look around for a more secluded spot so they can sit Shōto down and lay everything out for him. It probably isn't a good idea to do it here, considering it will take time and it is getting late. He is also starting to get hungry, and if he is hungry, then it is almost certain that Tōya and Shōto will want to eat soon too. "Let's grab a bite to eat and find a place where we can talk."
"There's a soba shop back that way," Tōya suggests, motioning in the direction they had come from prior to the clothing store fiasco, and Shōto perks up at the mention of soba. "We can grab a booth and talk while we eat."
"That sounds good," Izuku concedes, and he lets Tōya lead them to the soba shop. It is packed and noisy enough that no one will be able to hear them accidentally. They still manage to find a booth they can all squeeze into after placing their orders and receiving them. "So…" He starts filling Shōto in on everything he and Tōya have done the past couple of days, with Tōya's help.
It takes about as long as Izuku expected it would, and it is definitely dark out by the time they are done, but at least they are all on the same page now. And Shōto is positively thrilled with the efforts they have made towards getting Rei released from the hospital. Not to mention the verbal lashing Izuku had given Enji that first night.
"We should head back," Tōya remarks after the conversation lulls, and Izuku checks the time on his new phone.
"I should call Fuyumi-nee so she doesn't worry," Shōto half-mumbles as they slide out of the booth and head for the register by the door so they can pay for their food.
"And I should call my mom to let her know that we're fine and getting ready to head back." Izuku starts dialing his mother's number from memory while Shōto gets out his new phone to call Fuyumi from it.
The line rings a couple of times before his mother picks up and gives a very tentative, "Hello?"
"Hey, mom!" Izuku says brightly, and his mother sighs in relief on the other end.
"I'm glad to hear from you, Izuku," his mom responds after a beat, her tone calm and collected. "Is this the number for your new phone?"
"Yeah, it is, and I'll text you Tōya's number so you can have his too," Izuku answers and looks towards Tōya as he finishes paying for their food with Enji's card. "We just finished eating dinner, and we're leaving to head to the station now so we can come home." He just barely, because it is still a bit noisy, hears some faint murmuring on the other end of the line, but he thinks nothing of it.
Not until his mother says, "Bring Shōto-kun with you to the apartment, okay, Izuku?"
"I, uh, okay," Izuku responds, utterly baffled as he looks from Tōya to Shōto. Shōto has an equally perplexed look on his face as he speaks into his own phone, and Izuku is starting to suspect that Fuyumi is currently at his apartment.
"We'll see you when you get here, sweetie." It is as much of a confirmation as Izuku needs, at least, he hopes that he is right, but his mother hangs up before he can truly confirm what he already believes.
"So, uh, we're supposed to bring Shōto back to the apartment with us," Izuku says as he pockets his phone. "I think Fuyumi-nee is there," he adds as Tōya looks at both of them, his expression becoming thoughtful.
"Not just Fuyumi-nee," Shōto remarks as he finishes his call to Fuyumi and puts away his phone.
"I wonder…" Tōya trails off, his mouth twisting into a frown, and then he gives a shake of his head. "Let's just head back for now."
They make their way back to the station in a pensive sort of silence and cram into the next available train heading towards Musutafu. Izuku spends the ride contemplating what awaits them at the apartment, while Tōya and Shōto seem content enough to listen to him mutter his way through several scenarios. They cannot even begin to compare to what they actually find when they reach the block for the apartment building.
Izuku eyes the pair—yes, there's two—of moving trucks—why are there two?—parked in the street, and then he blinks when Toshinori comes from behind one of them. Followed by Natsuo. And Hizashi. And they are all chatting amongst themselves, at least until Toshinori notices them.
"Midoriya-shōnen!" Toshinori waves at them, which inevitably draws Hizashi and Natsuo's attention to them, and they slowly make their way over to them.
"Tōya-nii?" Natsuo asks a bit hesitantly as he stares at Tōya, his expression filled with uncertainty. "Is it really you?"
