Chapter 2
Nakago explained his dream to the emperor, hoping that he would have some idea as to what it meant. The emperor didn’t have any idea about it, so he just dismissed Nakago. Nakago stormed out. So much for the emperor helping.
Nakago joined the emperor once more during his lunch, and Nakago brought up the idea of an alliance with the south. The emperor spit his food out, and began laughing at the idea. “Nakago, we are meant to be fighting, not this childish belief that an alliance will last.”
Nakago became angry. “It is not childish, your highness! It could work, and with the south’s strength, we would be unstoppable.” He shouted it, his anger rising. Nakago waited for a reply from emp emperor, but he just stared. Nakago turned on his heel and left the room, heading for the stables. The emperor came out of his stupor, and followed.
“Wait, Nakago!” Nakago paused, but didn’t turn around to face him. “I am willing to try it. You make an interesting point, and it just might be crazy enough to work.” The emperor patted him on the back. “I like the way your mind works.”
“I will be ing ing now. I will propose the idea to Suzaku no Miko tonight. Farewell.” Nakago began walking once more and mounted his horse. “I’m co... ... Suzaku no Miko.” His horse began to speed through the forest- heading south.
He arrived later than he expected. He had to stop and rest overnight, so he arrived the next morning. He walked to the palace entrance, and experienced resistance. “I wish to speak to the emperor. Let me through.” The guards wouldn’t let him though, under order of the emperor Hotohori. Nakago sighed and dis-mounted his horse. “I will wait here. Go and get the emperor. NOW!” One guard turned and ran into the palace. The other guard kept an eye on him, while looking out for his partner.
The other guard came running after about ten minutes. “Emperor Hotohori will see you.” Nakago began walking past. “On oondiondition.” The guard finished. Nakago glared and raised an eyebrow, but nodded. “Proceed.”
“Yust ust leave your weapons here with us.”
Nakago took all of his weapons off, and brushed past the guards.
“What do you want, Nakago?” All 7 of Suzaku’s warriors were pnt. nt. Miaka stood to the left of Hotohori, encouraging him.
“I come proposing an offer.” He said icily. ‘Keep it upkagokago. Just make them believe you were forced to do this...’ He encouraged himself, for he did not have a beautiful woman for that... ‘Oh, Seriyuu, where did that come from?’
“And that offer would be...?” Hotohori urgem tom to continue.
“An alliance. Our countries are tired of fighting, and we want it to end. No more fighting, no more bloodshed.” Nakago said it, but his cold face melted away, almost pleading with the emporer. All of the warriors watched this happen, but none believed it. Chichiri tried to detect any dishonesty radiating off this man, but found none. He side-stepped over to the emperor and told him.
“Give us one day, and we will decide.” Hotohori announced. He wasn’t sure if the Seriyuu warrior was lying or not, but he trusted Chichiri. Nakago bowed, and Hotohori nodded. Nakago began to walk out, but Miaka spoke up.
“Nakago,” She called, hand reaching out to his retreating form. “You shouldn’t have to leave and come back once more...” She gulped. ‘What am I doing? He tried to rape me once... Suzaku knows what he would do this time.’
“Will you stay here?” Everyone gasped. Tamahome ran up to her, feeling her forehead. “Miaka, are you alright? ” He turned and glared at his arch nemesis. “You can’t be serious!” He screamed. “Lookhim!him! He would probably try to murder us in our sleep.”
Chichiri stepped up in Miaka’s defense. “She is right, no da. It is a long journey to the Seriyuu lands. Miaka is just saving him the trouble of going there and back, no da.” Miaka smiled at him, grateful that someone understood.
“If he wanted to kill us, he would have done so already.” She stated calmly. Nakago piped up in his defense. “I have no intention of killing any one. I assure you.” He raised his hands in a sign of peace. “I am grateful to the priestess for giving me a chance, but I am afraid it would cause too much trouble if I stayed here for a day.”
Tamahome glared at the warrior. “No shit. Damn straight it would. Now get out before I decide to assist you.” He said between clenched teeth. Nakago turned and left.
Everyonestiestioned Miaka, but they didn’t understand Miaka’s motives. ‘I saw something in his eyes... Maybe he’s not the Nakago everyone thinks he is...’
Back akagakago...
‘The miko knows.’ He could tell. He saw it in her eyes. And she saw it in his. He knew she knew. She was wise beyond her years... He chuckled to himself. He wondered if her chipper personality was just a facade. He doubted she could be wise and still be as innocent as she portrayed herself to be. Nakago thought back to the past couple of days...
The miko has been in his thoughts constantly. He wanted to know more about her. He wanted her to know more about him. ‘I can’t believe I’m thinking such things...’ He sighed. Maybe this war was taking his toll on him. He looked up to the sky, a determined look on his face. The miko is the only one who can end it. He was convinced now. She could obviously read him like a book... He nodded to himself. The miko would help. He juad tad to convince her that he was not the man she thought he was. Hopefully, it wouldn't be as hard as it sounded.
