Disclaimer: I do not own Wolfs Rain, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
All righty... So I have no updated this in quite sometime. My voice in writing has changed a bit, so I hope it is appreciated. I had no clue at all as to what was my original story because I lost most of these earlier stories a while ago and couldn't recover them. I have begun writing this one in attempt to finish it. I'm hoping I can because I've put together a new outline to get it finished up. Now I just need the drive! I know people have lost interest and for that if there are any of you still around... I do apologize!
Here's the next chapter and I'm hoping to get more typed out over the week. Thanks...Oh yeah and of course I don't own Wolf's Rain or its concepts... I just own Lessa. (L-eh-ssa) Would be the pronunciation.**********************A lone howl released out into the night, one that chilled Tsume to his very core as he watched the moonlit wolf bay up to the full moon in all of her regal splendor. No larger than Toboe in form, her very presence seemed to take up more area than the four of them put together. “Is that her?” He heard Toboe ask from somewhere in the near distance, though the young wolf sat just beside him, just as awe stricken as he was. A single nod was all he could manage to salute the boy with as the majestic wolf’s mournful howl crying out to the heavens ripped one from his own throat.Head thrown back and heavy dense fur whipping in the cold winter wind, she was a lonely spector crying out to the heavens, entrancing the very earth around her with her presence. Tsume had never felt anything more…Real. Unable to stop himself he ventured out of the cave’s gaping mouth and braved the blasting air to settle at the base of the hill. Once there he joined up her song and cried out to the moon in chorus with the female wolf. The moonlit wolf continued her baleful song to the moon where she could feel her master and mother watching patiently as she went on this terrifying journey into the world to heed the call of the final moon flower. The frigid cold had burned through her thick fur and deep into her very heart as she realized with a wicked shudder that she was no longer home. Paradise and its warmth couldn’t be felt in her veins any longer, just this bitter inhumane frozen wind.Calling up to the moon where the answers lay within her warm depths, Lessa found her answers.“I have found them mother…” “Good child… Now your journey begins. You must guide them and prepare them for the transition. You have been called my beloved Lessa…”“I’m afraid mother…”A deep sigh came from the other side, one that shook Lessa to her core as it thundered through her senses. The sensation of tender fingers moved through her fur just like when she rested beside her mother at home brought her some peace but the young woman knew it was to steel her resolve for the upcoming journey. The youngest of her twelve daughters, Lessa was the most coveted by all of the wolves in the beautiful paradise, her sisters before her having all come to the earth and returned when they were ready. All of them changed by the experience for the better despite the trials they encountered. Lessa had waited for so long to receive her own call and at long last it had come to her. The nagging started at first as a small tick along the base of her spine until days passed and then years where she could hear the voices. Four of them, but one more than the others. Oh that voice. Deep and rich, it tickled her senses with its rough grit when he spoke of his passions though the gold eyed wolf was convinced he had none, deep down he did. She had learned them through her dreams, and Lessa knew it was her job to find him and let him rise out of this hell to make the journey to the eternal resting place of the wolf pack. Wolves were not lone creatures. They had a family to belong to. These wolves had finally realized they were not meant to suffer through humanity’s cruelty to their kind, it was their time to come home. And she was their guide to return to it.“Fear is natural my little one. But whatever pains you encounter in this world, they will be washed from your mind the moment you return my beautiful wolf. Take solace in my voice when you are lost in the darkness for I shall follow you across the sky. Turn to the moon for there you will find me.”Tsume fell to silence as the sound cut off in the wind from above, and as he turned his head he watched in shocked silence to see the wolf’s paws give out sending her plummeting in a rush to the densely packed snow beneath her. “Toboe!” Tsume howled, already sprinting up the mountain side to reach the fallen wolf.Toboe was at Tsume’s heels and as they reached the top of the plateau his young eyes took in the sight of the fallen wolf now in her human form. She glowed like the light of the moon with skin the very color of the celestial anchor above them in the sky. “It’s like she’s made from the moon itself.” The boy whispered in awe coloring his tone and bright eyes. “Yeah…” Tsume half growled, the cold now cutting through him since his haze was lost upon the female falling into the snow. He knew he needed to get her into the cave for warmth, but he couldn’t seem to move. She was holding him in thrall. There was a connection, a piece of him he had felt missing since he was a small child now beginning to inflate with her presence and he had yet to know her name. How could a being he didn’t even know reach inside of him with such little effort and blossom to life the old dried up heart he had within his chest? Was this how Kiba had felt when he first met Cheza? Full of hope and more than that… life.Kiba had awoken when a lonesome howl reared up in the near distance. Sprinting toward the mouth of the cave he watched the new wolf with apprehension and some fear even as he stood unmoving while Toboe and Tsume moved out to her as though they were in a trance. Upon their own responding howl’s he finally shook free of the moment and snarled. Who was that?“That must be who Cheza was talking about.” Hige murmured coming to stand beside Kiba who growled lightly at him. Turning toward the white wolf, he took the anger in stride and shrugged. “She knew someone was coming…”“She was our guide.” Kiba bit off, running jagged nails deep down his scalp as he shrugged his shoulders back. Catching the husky wolf watching him sadly it was all Kiba could do to not lash out at his companion. Cheza’s loss still was rebounding through him and the thought of some outsider who was supposedly going to lead them to paradise charred that raw aching pain and setting his insides to burning.Hige merely nodded solemnly to the other wolf, knowing deep down inside that Cheza was meant to guide them and that path had not been completed the way she had wanted it. However she had been steadfast in ensuring that another guide found them and now she was here ready to lead them. At least he hoped. With wide eyes, Hige watched in silent horror as the female wolf slumped forward until she fully collapsed into the heavy snow beneath her. Thankfully Tsume and Toboe were there.“Come on.” Hige demanded as his feet sprang into action gathering up the old blanket Cheza had used. Just as his hand reached for it, a firm grasp latched onto his wrist.“That was Cheza’s.” Kiba growled. Hige’s eyes narrowed at the refusal of his comrade to see past what had happened and with a sharp movement the huskier wolf was up in his leader’s face. “She’s gone Kiba. And this is our chance for your paradise. This wolf will not freeze because you refuse to part with Cheza.” Barking out his irritation, Hige snatched his hand back and away with the blanket intact before departing for the mouth of the cave where Tsume and Toboe already were with the wolf.Tsume gruffly thanked Hige for the blanket even as he let Toboe carefully wrap the smaller woman in it. Larger than he anticipated for her wolf form, she was still butterfly small in his arms. Well under his height, as her head would probably only come to the middle of his chest, while she resembled a young girl in height, in body she was all full grown female. Flared hips that led up into a well fed stomach that had never seen starvation, she was still fit like any wolf should be with lean muscle that allowed her to run wild and free. Her breasts were well sized for her weight and should he ever have cause to test their pliancy they would snug into the palm of his hands while only slightly running over. But those eyes…Everything about her physically was appreciative in terms of how a male should be attracted to a female he would wish to mate with, but it was her eyes that called to the creature in him and stirred its blood. Grey with flecks of white they were twin moons in and of themselves and when Tsume glanced them that first time it felt as though he were staring up into the majestic celestial being in the sky like he had many nights prior for all of his life. The wisdom and innocence mingling within those fantastic gems flowed an invigorating light into all of this creature’s body that told the grey wolf she was the creature who would lead them to paradise. He had felt her call even before Cheza made mention of it. It had been her voice whispering to him to follow Kiba… to follow Cheza.“Tsume?” Hige urged quietly, the girl now wrapped up carefully in the terry cloth blanket that had calmed her quivering, trying to get the other wolf to get her out of the cave entry. “What’s up with him?” The larger wolf asked, turning toward Toboe who was just as confused.Shrugging at the stricken look on the older wolf’s face, Toboe felt as though he were at a complete loss as to what was happening. The boy merely stood in the opening along with Tsume shivering as the wind’s chill began to seep into his bones. Weary and exhausted from the travel and now the death of Cheza, this new wolf’s presence had merely exacerbated the feelings for the wolves and Toboe was ready to curl into a warm corner and sleep off the trauma.Hige could see that the young boy’s patience was dwindling. “Tsume. We need to lay her down. She needs to warm up.” He tried again, this time coaxing the other wolf into the small cavern with his hand on a single scarred arm. Guiding Tsume to the corner he got the two wolves settled down before urging Toboe to settle next to the grey wolf. He would take the other side. “Kiba… you should come rest.”Kiba’s eyes roamed over the windy countryside, watching the wind whip up the snow around them to make it dance along the backdrop of blackened sky before it fell back to the earth. Cold. And unmoving. When Hige called for him it took every ounce of control not to growl at the other wolf. “I’ll keep watch.” Was all he said, hugging his thin jacket tighter. This girl was not their salvation. Cheza had been! Sooner or later they would all know it too.Hige just shook his head. Turning away from the leader of the group, he huddled in beside Tsume on the opposite side as Toboe so that they would all be warm. “Stupid.”“Hige?” Toboe murmured in concern, his head jerking up toward Kiba who had heard but wasn’t paying the small group any mind. Catching the blond’s eye he hunkered back down when all he was given in response was silence. They all knew Cheza’s death would shake the group, but none of them wanted to deal with it now that it was here, and what was worse, they could still smell her. With tears behind his eyes, the rusty haired wolf curled his nose beneath his paws and silently whimpered out in the quiet den through his tears. Cheza was really gone.“Don’t cry Toboe.” Hige picked his head up when he heard the sniffles. It hadn’t really sunk in until now for any of them what had happened until now. Alone in the cave, without the sweet scent permeating through the room, now all the wolves were left with were the remnants. A fleeting memory. And it hurt.Feeling the tears prick at his own eyes, Hige silenced himself though nudged forward and rested his muzzle to Toboe’s so that the young one would know he wasn’t alone.Silence took over the cave even past poor Toboe’s murmured cries of sorrow that Hige attempted to soothe. All that could be felt besides the pain was the anger radiating out of Kiba, but the overstated emotion was still dread and an ache so deep, nothing but despair could grow within. The wolves had each listened to Cheza when she promised a savior, but some days, especially in the darkness after great loss, it was hard to see the positive in any situation. And that’s what three of the wolves were grappling with. But not all. Because one knew that the creature he held snugged tight against his chest, letting her soak in his warmth, that this was their real glimpse of paradise. “I’ll protect you.” His gruff voice whispered to her in promise. Gold stayed trained on the impassive face swept up with short, wild silver locks all the night through until the sun began to break through the horizon and for the first time those hypnotic eyes pulled open and a single word was whispered out to him.“Rest.” The word echoed through the cavern, prompting each gaze to fall to the being speaking until all four wolves bade the command and fell to the earth in a deep, restful sleep.***Slow start I know but the initial ideas I have coming I'm hoping will be good. You'll get to know Lessa a bit more in the next few chapters. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
