Oyasuminasai

Hot to Go

Summary: A man falls for another, but is this just a one sided infatuation?
Disclaimer: I haven’t sailed the Grand Line, so there’s no way I could own One Piece.
Warning: None for now
Author’s Note: This is my first One Piece fic! *cheers* I think what I really want to do is a fic praising Buggy Senshou for his honor and hilarity…^w^ Of course, Buggy Senshou is so much better in Japanese…

Oyasuminasai*

“BREAKFAST!” Sanji yelled, knowing he really didn’t need to say it that loud, but wanting to. He didn’t want it to be quiet and that’s why he’d been active all morning. He didn’t need quiet, not right now. He didn’t want to think about anything.

“Stupid samurai…”

Especially not that.

They came as a group, complimenting his skills and digging in, Luffy very appreciative of the large steak he received with his eggs.

“Dank woo Angee!”

Sanji laughed and bit into his toast. For once, he was actually sitting at the table. Usopp asked him for the butter and he handed it over, pouring himself and Nami some juice. Eating just a voraciously as everyone else, if not broodingly, was Zoro who kept looking at Sanji as if expecting something.

The cook just continued to dig into his omelet, artfully drawing ketchup over the top. Usopp took the bottle next and drew something, making the cook laugh. It was Usopp himself. Sanji grinned at this.

“So, answer me this Usopp! If you were an omelet and you were starving…would you eat yourself?”

Everyone laughed, Zoro giving a chuckle before he shoveled his bacon in his mouth.

When everything was said and done, there was a mountain of dishes and only one blond love cook.

He sighed and rolled up his sleeves. Better now than never.

At this rate, I won’t be done till lunch time!

As Sanji washed, he started to hum softly to himself. It was unfortunate that after last night’s rain they had to cast off on such a beautiful he couldn’t enjoy. He turned and looked out of the small window that was over the counter. It appeared Luffy and Usopp were certainly enjoying themselves.

He turned back to the dishes, stopping every now and then to tap ash from his cigarette. It was easy to get lost in the rhythm scrubbing and setting dishes in the other sink and for a while, he was alone.

Until he noticed the dishes in the empty sink were disappearing. And they were disappearing because someone was drying them.

Standing next to him, looking bored out of his mind, was Zoro, drying dishes. The man had come in and taken up dish drying without him even noticing. The cook damned himself and focused on his task, determined not to talk.

“When is all this going to be done?”

Damn you Zoro!

“When it gets done. You don’t like it, leave you shitty samurai.”

And so they fell into rhythm again until the door swung open.

“Here you are! I was looking for you!” Nami came into the kitchen, neither man really acknowledging her. So, she decided to speak up.

“When is lunch going to be done? We’re making good time on our way to the next port.”

Sanji bit down on his cigarette, refusing to answer and Zoro shrugged.

“Who knows, Luffy really ate a lot as usual so there’s lots of dishes.”

Nami lingered for a bit, staring. “Well…when you get done I need to talk to you.”

“Hn. I gotta train, no can do.”

“Just shut up and come talk to me later you Idiot geez!” Nami waved to them both and left the kitchen. When the door closed, Sanji blew out some smoke and made a whip crack noise with his mouth.

“Says you Love Cook.”

“Whatever. Least I realized what it was before it was too late.”

“Just hand me the damn plate.”

Sanji handed him the plate, smirking as shadows covered his eyes. “So…”

“So what?”

“What’s it like? Banging Nami? From what I hear Usopp and Luffy giggling about you two are at it pretty often. Do tell.”

Zoro dropped a plate with a loud smash. Sanji left the sink, shaking water off his hands and retrieved the broom and dust pan.

He swept up the shards with ease, knowing he’d hit a soft spot. A hint of a smile lingered on his and he would have laughed if he hadn’t looked up to see Zoro still drying plates, his whole back tense.

“Yo…sorry. Whatever, I was just teasing you know…that –Zoro?”

The swordsman left, job undone and the blond chef scratched his head. What’d I say?

Morning turned to afternoon and afternoon waned to dinner. Sanji carefully put away his clean tools, wondering what he’d said. At lunch, Zoro gave him glares and wouldn’t rise to his taunts and at dinner, the man had eaten his food without talking to anyone except for the occasional noncommittal grunt to Nami.

Hmph…Nami… He snorted and leaned against the wall, watching out of the window. Tonight Luffy and Usopp had watch. He scratched his chin and blew a smoke heart in the air.

Those two are together a lot more lately…or maybe I just noticed…

He leaned his head back and sighed, smoke billowing shapelessly into the cabin air.

What did I say Zoro…I’m sorry you asshole…

The blond had done the dishes alone tonight. It wasn’t as if this was unusual, but it was nice having company even if he didn’t feel like talking about that night in port.

Aside from the meal menus, that had been most present in his mind all day long.

He hadn’t been drunk or startled or high off adrenaline from the “almost” rape, he’d just been…angry, more upset than anything. He wasn’t about to admit to himself that as everyday went by he grew more and more jealous of Nami. Not to mention the fact that the green haired swordsman was always on his mind.

Hell, he’s been on my mind since I saw him jump the Baratie’s deck and take on that Mihawk guy…

The lean young man finished his cigarette and left the wall, deciding it was time to head downstairs and lay down for a while. Maybe he’d read a book or recount how many species of fish there were in All Blue by alphabetical order.

Sanji grinned as he went downstairs, skipping straight to the E’s.

“Elephant Tuna, yeah…” he chuckled a little, not watching wear he was going and tripped.

Being a man who was good on his feet, he caught himself and recovered, turning to see who’d done him in. His eyes widened as he stumbled back a bit, regaining his balance.

It was Zoro’s sword.

What the fuck…he never takes that thing off him…unless…

He narrowed his eyes at the doorway it sat outside of. It was Nami’s room.

“Damn you Nami…” he growled, snatching up the sword.

He went to the sleeping cabin, where Nami made then sleep and threw himself into his hammock, clutching the sword to his chest and growling.

“Stupid Samurai…I bet their doing it right now…”

**

Zoro didn’t raise his voice but his tone certainly wasn’t that of a happy person’s.

“What the fuck? I don’t take orders from you, I take orders from Luffy! I’m not your personal body guard!”

“We talked about this earlier Zoro, I thought we’d reached an understanding?”

“No, you reached an understanding by yourself. I just sat there listening to you talk my afternoon away.”

“What’s so hard about working for me!”

“Luffy is the Captain here! If anything I’m already his body guard, not yours!”

The red head paced the room in her wood heels. “Well if you want money for those swords you will be! I’m sick of getting injured and left out while I go get treasure-”

“You mean so you can steal? The Straw Hat pirates aren’t even about that! Arlong is over why are you even still obsessed –”

“Money rules the world you broke nobody!” she yelled. “If you want to be with me you’d better get your priorities straight!”

That’s when the man stood, chair clattering to the floor beneath him. He looked at the woman, eyes cold and full of hate.

“Priorites? And what would those be?”

“Serving me, pleasing me, and obeying me! It’s not like I couldn’t do better, I just think Sanji smokes too much!”

“He smokes too much?! That’s why you’re doing all this?!”

Nami tossed her hair. “Why else? I couldn’t very well sleep with Usopp or Luffy. I mean…Luffy’s gay.”

Zoro blinked then clenched his fists. “How dare you.”

“What?” her eyes narrowed then widened. “Are you back talking me? If I can smack Arlong I think I can take you down a few notches!” She made as if to move and Zoro snatched up her wrists.

“You conniving, self serving bitch. You broke his heart.”

“So what? He’s just a stupid cook, he knows his place. He still gets me drinks. We all win!”

He shoved her back, the girl hitting the bed with a soft thud. “No…” he growled, starting to leave.

“You lose…”

**

Sanji sneezed for the fourth time and moved in his hammock, sword securely by his side. He settled back into sleep and was about to go back to a pleasant dream that involved beaches and bikinis until he got the feeling of someone standing over him.

“Give me my sword you shitty cook!”

The blond opened his eyes in time to see Zoro snatching back his sword and stalking across the room to sling himself into his hammock. Sanji looked over his shoulder briefly.

“Why did she make you leave it outside?”

“Shut up! You just shut up!”

The blond yawned and went back to sleep. Now that he was tired he could care less.

Moments passed and Sanji smiled. He was making barbeque for a lovely someone bereft of clothing when he felt someone watching him. Again.

He opened his eyes and saw Zoro. Or specifically, Zoro’s eyes boring into him. He blinked blue eyes and green eyes blinked back.

“…gomen…” came the whisper. Zoro bowed his head and looked at the sword laid across his lap. “Gomen nasai…”

Sanji sat up a little, or tried to, frowning sleepily as his elbow sunk into netting. “What? Why?” He yawned.

“I didn’t believe you. She was using me. She said…that you smoked too much and I disagree. It’s like saying Luffy smiles too much or Usopp lies too much. She said, ‘Who else would I sleep with’ as she said these things.”

“Luffy?”

“She said Luffy was gay.”

Sanji coughed and laughed, doubling up in the hammock, causing it to swing. “No way!”

Zoro nodded, the hilarity of the situation lost on him. “I can’t believe her. I told her I wouldn’t be her guard dog.”

“Is that what you were pissed off for at lunch and dinner? You didn’t even ask for any booze.”

The swordsman nodded and looked up. “I called her a conniving bitch and shoved her.”

“Great…” But why are you confessing to me… the blond wondered as Zoro talked on.

“Sure I knew somehow it was stress relief, but I dunno, I thought she liked me…”

“Hm.” Sanji laid back in his hammock and stared at the ceiling. He fumbled around in his shirt, then reached for his jacket. He retrieve a cigarette and lit it, taking the first drag then lifting the stick away from his mouth like he was blowing a kiss.

“Farewell Nami-san…”

“And now, I won’t have money to get new swords.”

“Hm.” He smoked, the lone lamp in the corner not giving off enough light to pull the two figures out of the darkness. A red-orange dot burned in the blackness, Zoro sitting at the hammocks side like a tired guard.

“I’m going to bed…” the swordsman got up then, but Sanji didn’t have his eyes open. He wouldn’t be so careless as to fall asleep this way, but he was still too tired to keep them open.

There was pressure on his forehead and a whispered goodnight and although intensity varied, there were two hot spots in the darkness now.

Sanji’s fingers faltered as he pulled the cigarette to his lips and ash fell onto his collar. He brushed it off and put the cigarette out, his breath now too quick for his lungs.

Goodnight?

His eyes ventured to the side of his head, fearing what could meet his gaze, and only found Zoro’s back, already moving with the easy pattern of sleep.

Sanji turned over and pressed his fingers to his forehead, then to his lips.

Good night Zoro-kun…
