Kikumaru Eiji stared at the clock on the wall. Only five more minutes until he got to meet Tez. ‘Oh hurry up!’ He thought impatiently. Since last night, when they had finally brought their feelings out in the open, Eiji had been thinking about the captain. Their first kiss, their make-out session in Tezuka’s room, the stolen kiss this morning in the locker room. The promise of something more. He looked up at the clock again. The second hand seemed to go backwards. Four minutes. He looked out the window. Another beautiful day. A perfect day to sit with and just be together with the guy he was in love with. Two minutes. He put his books away and got ready to jump over everyone else and run outside. He looked again at the window, wondering if he could fit through them. Deciding on the door just to play it safe, he rocked on the balls of his feet, ready to take off. The second showed ten seconds. Eight. Five. Three. At last the bell rang. Eiji darted from his seat, pushed past the others and into the hall. He walked down the stairs and out the front door. He went to the bench and waited for Tezuka. He waved goodbye to people as they passed him, wishing him a good weekend. He looked to his left and saw Fuji Syusuke approaching. He smiled and waved. Fuji didn’t seem to see him. As Fuji was almost level with him, he waved again.
“Hey Fuji.” Eiji said lightly.
Fuji looked directly at him now, and instead of the light smiling face that Eiji was used to seeing outside the tennis court, he saw the piercing blue eyes and no trace of a smile. He was so enthralled with the eyes, that he didn’t see the backhand come up and smack him across the face. Eiji dropped to his knees, his hand went up to his cheek. He looked back at Fuji, his eyes tearing, but Fuji had already continued walking, like nothing had happened.
“Eiji?”
Eiji looked up and saw Tezuka standing above him.
“What are you doing down there? What happened?” Tezuka asked him concerned. He reached a hand down and grabbed Eiji’s pulling him to a standing position.
“Are you crying?” He asked, as Eiji looked at him.
“No, im alright. Its just allergies.” Eiji said. He didn’t know why he wasn’t telling Tezuka about what Fuji did, but he wanted to find out the reason behind it first.
“And is the red mark on your face from allergies too?” Tezuka asked. “Eiji, what is going on.” He grabbed Eiji’s shoulders gently and looked directly into his blue eyes.
Eiji looked down.
“Fuji slapped me.” He said, tears in his eyes again. “I don’t know why, he didn’t say a word.”
Tezuka looked at him, his brown eyes widening before closing into angry slits. He let go of Eiji’s shoulders and said in a whisper, “Wait here.”
Tezuka Kunimitsu was pissed. ‘What the hell was Fuji doing?’ He asked himself ‘ Why did he smack Eiji? Was it because of the note he had read? If so why wasn’t he being the same way with me?’ He caught up to Fuji and grabbed the prodigy’s arm, spinning him around to face him. He registered the anger on Fuji’s face for a split second before the smile returned.
“Well, hello Tezuka.” He said pleasantly.
“Don’t ‘hello Tezuka’ me Fuji!” Tezuka said, shaking with anger.
“What’s the matter Tezuka?” Fuji asked. Just a glint of his more dangerous side flashing in his eyes, before disappearing behind the smile again.
“What do you mean what’s the matter?” Tezuka asked incredulously. “Why did you smack Eiji?”
“Oh that, I had completely forgotten.” Fuji said. “I did that to knock him down where he belongs.”
“Where the hell do you get off thinking you need to do that?” Tezuka yelled. “He is perfect where he is, and if you have a problem with our relationship you need to bring it to me. If you are unable to do that, then you need to keep your ass out of my business. Do you understand me?”
“Tezuka, I have to say...” Fuji started.
Tezuka leaned in close. He eyes burned with anger. “Do you understand me?”
Fuji looked at the captain, blinked twice, and seemed to think about something.
“Yes. I understand.” He said finally.
Tezuka looked at him with confusion. Even though Fuji had just submitted to his will, he was smiling and speaking like he had won something.
“Good.” Tezuka said uncertainly. He turned to leave.
“Oh, Tezuka, one more thing.” Fuji said. He grabbed Tezuka’s wrist. Tezuka turned back and Fuji leaned forward and pressed his lips firmly against the captain’s. Tezuka stood there, Fuji’s lips against his own. His eyes wide, and his mind racing. Only when he felt Fuji’s tongue against his lips did he come back to himself. He pushed the other man away.
“What the hell Fuji?” He said.
“Just get used to that Tezuka, because I always get what I want.”
Fuji turned around and walked away, leaving Tezuka standing there confused. Fuji had feelings for him? What the hell was going on? He had never even thought of him in that way. They were too good of friends for something like that. He turned around, and looked right into the eyes of his love. The beautiful blue eyes, that were currently filled with tears of hurt.
“You kissed him?” Eiji said, tears running down his cheeks. “Why would you do that Tezuka?”
He pushed past the captain and started to walk quickly away. He was down to the street before Tezuka could catch up with him.
“Eiji, please stop and listen to me.” Tezuka said desperately. “I didn’t kiss him, he kissed me.”
“Oh sure, I have heard that in a thousand movies too Tezuka.”
“Eiji please believe me.”
“Just go away, I don’t want to see you right now.” Eiji said, and began to jog.
Tezuka jogged behind him, trying to keep up. ‘Dammit,’ He thought angrily, ‘I just got him, and I am not going to let him get away that easily. I cant let myself lose him.’
Tezuka broke out in a run and caught up to Eiji. He grabbed the redhead and turned him around. Tezuka held his wrist firmly, and when he was turned, he grabbed the other one.
“Let me go.” Eiji said, while the tears streamed down his face. “Just leave me alone.”
“I won’t!” Tezuka said, looking into Eiji’s eyes intensely. “I don’t ever want to leave you alone. Don’t you understand that yet?”
He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, Eiji was looking at him wearily.
“I love you Eiji, and I want to be with you.” He started. “I want to be with you more than I want to be alive. I want to be with you more than I want to breathe. If I can’t have you, I will never have anyone else.”
Eiji looked at him. His eyes wide, the wind gone from his lungs. He didn’t know what to say. He looked into Tezuka’s eyes and saw clearly that there was nothing but truth in them.
“Let me go Tezuka.” He said quietly.
Tezuka dropped his hands, releasing Eiji’s wrists. He felt a tear fall down his face. He had lost him already. Eiji stood there for a second. Then he moved a step closer and wrapped his arms around his captain’s waist, pulling him close and resting his head on Tezuka’s chest. Tezuka, stunned by this, wrapped his arms around his redheaded angel. He looked down and Eiji was looking up at him. He leaned his head down and kissed Eiji’s lips gently, his tongue parting the soft lips and exploring his love’s mouth. They stood that way for a few seconds. When they parted, Eiji smiled.
“I love you too.” He said quietly.
They walked up the street, Tezuka with his arm around Eiji’s shoulders, holding him close.
Fuji had seen the whole thing. He followed them as they walked up the street. They stopped, and Tezuka leaned down to kiss Eiji. Then he turned off the main street and Eiji continued to walk straight. When he was sure Tezuka couldn’t see them any more, Fuji continued to follow Eiji up the street. He closed the distance between them quickly, as Eiji seemed to be daydreaming.
Eiji walked home alone now, Tezuka having turned off. They were going to be meeting soon though, he was going home to change, then walk back to Tezuka’s. He thought of the beautiful words that Tezuka had said and smiled. He was so happy, knowing that Tezuka had finally said the three words Eiji had most wanted to hear from him.
“Oh Eiji.” He heard from behind him.
