Chapter 3
TD: next chapter!
The sun rose and bathed the land in its warm light. The morning could only be described as beautiful. Unfortunately for Naru, she was too preoccupied to enjoy it. When she wasn’t able to fall asleep, she had gone to the roof and sat there, trying to understand the sudden feelings she was experiencing as the sun climbed into the sky. Knowing that she couldn’t just sit there all day, Naru got up and went back inside. As she descended the stairs numerous thoughts crossed her mind. Each one countered by another thought.
‘Do I really love Mei?’
‘Of course I love her, but I just didn’t think I loved her that way. Besides, we aren’t related by blood.’
‘How will I tell mom and dad about this?’
‘Just tell them. They’re my parents. They will always love Mei and I no matter what.’
‘What with the others think? Will they still like me?’
‘If they really are my friends then they should be happy for me.’
‘What do I tell Keitaro?’
Naru froze. The thought of how Keitaro would react to this scared her. She knew all too well that he liked her as more than a friend. But how would he react to her rejecting him so she could go off with her own sister? As she saw it there were three possible scenarios.
Scenario #1) Keitaro and Naru are standing face to face. Naru has just told Keitaro that she loves Mei. A look of disgust is on Keitaro’s face.
“You can’t be serious. You’re sick. I mean she’s your little sister! And you call me a pervert!”
Scenario #2) Keitaro and Naru are standing face to face. Naru has just told Keitaro that she loves Mei. He forces a smile even though he is clearly hurt inside.
“Oh. I see. Well I hope you two can live together happily”
Keitaro then walks away; anyone looking at him could swear that there was a dark cloud floating over his head.
Scenario #3) Keitaro and Naru are standing face to face. Naru has just told Keitaro that she loves Mei. Keitaro gives her a genuine smile, like it doesn’t matter to him that he just got dumped.
“Naru, I really care about you and I only want you to be happy. So if that means I can’t have you then so be it. I’ll support the two of you no matter what. If the two of you ever need anything, feel free to ask me.”
With that he gave her a loving hug. Then the two went back inside and shared the news with the others.
Naru snapped back into reality. Knowing Keitaro, scenario 2 was the most likely to happen. She knew he would be hurt when she told him so she just decided to get it over with. She climbed the stairs and walked down the hall to Keitaro’s room. She knew he was probably still asleep so she just opened the door and went in. She walked over to his bed and woke him up. It took a few minutes for him to fully wake up, but once he was, she told him everything.
The silence that filled the room would be uncomfortable for anyone, but it was even more so for poor Naru. Keitaro had said nothing since she had finished speaking, nor had he moved from the spot he was sitting in. He was unsure of what to say. This hadn’t been how he planned on starting his day. He loved Naru with all his heart, but was he willing to let her go? Was he ok with letting the woman he loved run off with her own sister? He tried to tell himself that he wasn’t, but failed. He looked into her eyes.
“Naru, do you really mean that? Do you love her that way?”
Naru had expected this question and was prepared to answer it. But her throat felt dry, and it felt as though she had lost her voice. But the words came out loud and clear.
“Keitaro, I know that a lot of people find the idea of incest disgusting and feel that the type of relationship my sister wants with me is wrong. And to be honest, I feel that way too.”
Unknown to both Naru and Keitaro, Mei, having awoken to find the spot in bed next to her empty, went looking for her sister. Having acted on instinct, she found herself outside of Keitaro’s room and eavesdropping on the two within. Upon hearing Naru’s words, she felt as though an ice cold knife had penetrated her heart. But it was what Naru said next that truly hurt.
“Also, I can no longer bring myself to see Mei as my sister anymore. It just doesn’t seem right.”
Mei didn’t want to hear anymore. She ran, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Back in the room, Naru continued.
“I want her to be more to me than my sister. I… I want her to be with me…like two people who love each other should be.”
Keitaro sighed. He still couldn’t believe what was going on. But he knew what the right thing to do was.
“Naru, it’ll take me some time to adjust to this. But if you’re really sure about it, then I have no right to stop you. I … I just want you to be happy.”
Naru was so happy she pulled him into a hug and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this mean to me. I can’t thank you enough for this.”
Naru got up and left. She planned on going straight back to her room and giving a certain someone a ‘good morning’ she wouldn’t soon forget.
