Oh, My Darling Gil
~Chapter 4
Laam took Gil's hand in his own and began leading him through the many corridors of the castle, making quite an effort to avoid any encounters with the other residents. They dodged in and out of the shadows whenever someone passed them. In the back of Gil's mind, he was aware that Nadil would know of their every move. This led him to wonder just how long the game would continue. Surely Shydeman would realize that something was out of order whenever his little pet failed to return after a period of time. But Gil was also hoping that by some miracle, he and Laam would actually manage to get away from them. So he kept his thoughts to himself.
Naturally, since the kitten had been kept contained only in certain areas of the castle, he did not know the layout or the location of any exits. But Laam seemed to know his way around quite well. They were moving fast, except when forced to avoid coming into contact with other demons. Every time a demon passed them, Gil's heart raced for fear of being caught. Every time they remained unnoticed, the slight amount of hope he had would grow a little. Perhaps there was a chance that the two of them would get out and be free. He just had to believe it would happen.
The pair came to the end of a hall which led into a large intersection. It appeared to be completely deserted. But suddenly, the hairs of the back of Gil's neck stood up. An evil, enraged aura filled the air around them. Laam felt it as well and quickly pressed Gil behind him, looking around for the aura's origin. But the half-breed knew exactly who it was. He felt his body shaking uncontrollably as his pissed-off-beyond-all-reason Master stepped out from an adjacent hallway.
"What the hell do you think you are doing with my pet, you pathetic exscuse for a demon?", Shydeman growled, making his way closer to them.
"Well, that is a brilliant question... But I should think that the answer would be painfully obvious. I'm taking him, and the child he now carries, away from you and away from this whole damn place.", Laam replied.
"You dare to incur my wrath, wretch!? Have you forgotten that I can mold your body into any form that I so please? Even into something that will be repulsive or harmful to Gil. If you hand him over now, then I might be inclined to show a ray of mercy and not alter you into anything too unrecognizable.", the demon spat.
Laam smirked. "No, I don't think I will. Gil's far too precious to be a prisoner to someone like you. Now, if you'll kindly move out of the way, we'll be going." He kept himself between Gil and Shydeman.
An expression of realization adorned Shydeman's face. “... Now I understand what's been going on.” He looked at Gil, the red of his eyes intensifying. “You little whore... How long have you been sleeping with this damned rogue? Long enough that there's a chance that baby you're carrying is his most likely. Not that it matters really. Laam will die and that child will be taken away and trained without ever knowing who it's parents are.”
Gil's golden eye widened at Shydeman's words. The thought of giving up on their escape and going back to his master in exchange for Laam being allowed to keep his life crossed his mind. There didn't seem to be any other way out of this. He began to gently push Laam aside so that he could confront Shydeman himself. But the outcast quickly put his arm around Gil, stopping the half-breed from moving. Gil then looked up into Laam's eyes.
“Gil, don't give up. Stay with me. We're going to make it out of here and we're going to be happy. Please, don't give up just yet...”, Laam pleaded, his eyes gentle and sincere.
Gil closed his eye, nuzzling against his mate. “Okay, Laam...”
“Excuse me, but how the hell do you think you're going to do that?”, Shydeman injected. “Surely you're not stupid enough to believe that I would just let you both walk out to here unharmed. I intend to have my pet back, and the child will still prove to be a valuable asset to our army with the proper training.”
The outcast smirked, releasing Gil and turning to face the demon officer. “Oh, do you now? Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubble. But Gil is coming with me. Right... Now!”
Before Shydeman could withdraw from their close proximity, Laam brought up his hand and summoned black lightning. He then quickly reached out and touched the demon officer. A highly intense shock flowed through Shydeman's entire body, making him scream out in agony. When Laam finally recoiled his hand, Shydeman fell to the stone floor, smoke rising from the scorched areas of his flesh and cloak. The outcast dispelled his lightning and turned around, taking Gil's hand. Before the half-breed could even spare a second glance at his 'former' master, the pair was running towards the nearest castle exit.
~5 Years Later~
Laamgarnas walked outside, onto the porch of his tiny cabin. Gil was sitting on the edge of the porch. The half-breed's gaze was focused on the small clearing out in front of the cabin. He was watching a small child at play among the flowers and plants. Said child was only about two feet tall and had a tiny frame. His skin was pale but not deathly pale. Long purple hair colored with streaks of red flowed down his back in a wave. Eyes the color of deep gold were set into a young, adorable face. The kitten giggled happily as a butterfly landed on his outstretched fingertip. Laam sat down beside Gil, wrapping an arm around him and smiling as they watched their son enjoy himself.
“I think I”ll give him a few more minutes before calling you both in for dinner.”, Laam said.
Gil nodded. “Israfel really likes the butterflies. Most of the time he'll chase them through the grass but when one lands on him, his eyes light up and he's the happiest kid in the world.”
A few moments passed before young Israfel looked over to the porch and saw both of his parents watching him. He shooed the butterfly back into the sky before running over to them, smiling. Reaching out his arms to Gil, the child waited to be picked up. Gil bent down and scooped his son up, placing him down on his lap. Laam leaned over and kissed Israfel's forehead gently. The kitten giggled and hugged them both. As the sun began to set behind the mountains, the parents ushered their child inside and kissed each other once before following him into their home. Love, happiness, and peace had finally blessed their lives.
