Chapter 4
Eyes widening with fear Ryan listened at the sound of the hoofs pounding on the ground got louder. ’What should I do? Should I stay here and wait for them? Run and try to hide? Can I even hide?’ He thought wildly looking around. Hearing the howl again he threw out any Idea’s of trying to hide. He was sure he’d be found and once he was he’d only be punished even more… Running didn’t seem like much better an option either. Even if they’d been on foot he didn’t think he’d have been able to out run those after him. It never even occurred to him that it might not be Grapleomon or Mystimon.
Looking down at his shaking hands he closed his eyes. He didn’t regret trying to run but now that he was all but caught, he was beginning to wonder how he’d ever thought he’d be able to get away in the first place. He hadn’t thought to grab any supplies, or at least not when it mattered, was on foot and had a slave collar locked around his neck… Even if they hadn’t tracked him down, once he went into a town for supplies (he’d have to after a while) he’d likely have been questioned then detained. He knew word of a runaway slave would be sent out. With nowhere to really run to he’d had no real chance…
When the thundering of hooves seemed to be almost on him, he opened his eyes. It was getting dark but he could still see the shape of three riders on horses or horse like digimon. He couldn’t tell which yet. Running in front of them was a sleek large black and brown dog that was easily four feet tall. As they got closer he could see it had glowing red ‘eyes’ on its legs and a thick spiked collar around its neck.
Growing the dog circled him once then stopping behind him looking towards those on horseback. Ryan also looked at the three. He feared them more then the dog digimon. Both Grapleomon and Mystimon had come after him. The Third was Strikedramon. Grapleomon and Strikedramon were riding large, but normal horses. Mystimon on the other hand was riding a large purple horse with a thick white mane and tail that had to be a digimon. It had a red horn on its forehead and some gold armor on his chest and legs.
Hopping off the purple horse Mystimon strode over to him. One look at his face was enough to know the elf digimon was pissed. Not saying a word Mystimon stared down at the nervous teen. Anger dancing in his eyes he raised his arm back and struck the boy hard on the side of the head, knocking him to the ground. Before he’d fully hit the ground the elf digimon kicked him in the gut. Reaching down he grabbed a hand full of his light brown hair and pulled the teen, who was curling up in pain, to his knees. The angry digimon would have hit him again but Grapleomon had come over and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“It would be nice to know why he tried to run before you knock him senseless.” He growled out. He was upset that Ryan had decided to run for some reason, but he also didn’t really like seeing his lord beat him. Sure the boy should be punished but he didn’t need a concussion or worse.
Mystimon looked over at the humanoid lion with an annoyed look on his face. After a moment he dropped his arm though. “Fine…” He said in dangerously calm voice then looked back at the boy, who he was still hold by his hair and who had tears streaming down his face. “Why did you try running?”
“I… I… heard you two talking… I heard… Master Grapleomon agree to… sell me…” Ryan got out in a pain filled voice. His head was pounding and being held up by his hair wasn’t helping any.
“I see…” Mystimon said in the same dangerously calm voice as before. Looking up Ryan saw a fury in his eyes that made him fear for his life. “And just what’s so bad about having me as your master that you’d run?”
“Noth... noth--ing…” He got out stuttering in fear.
“Nothing? If there wasn’t a reason then why would you want to run?” He asked flinging the boy to the ground.
“I... I’m…”
“You’re what?” Grabbing Ryan by an arm this time he pulled him back up.
“I’m sorr… sorry… I… I… please… do… don’t… hur… me…”
With how scared he was Grapleomon was amazed Ryan was still getting anything understand able out. “I think he’s too afraid to say much more right know…” Shaking his head he looked between the teen and angry digimon. “Let’s just head back now that we’ve found him.”
Eyes narrowing he looked down at the terrified teen and nodded. Turning he started towards his mount, dragging Ryan along by the arm as he went.
Noise twitching the dog digimon turned and started growling. Stopping Mystimon dropped the teen and turned to eye the dark landscape a little to the right of the way Ryan had been going. “Who’s out there!? Show yourself!” He demanded as he considered lighting up the area with his magic orb, but decided against it for the time being. No need to ruin his night vision if he didn’t need to.
“Did you know you can tell a lot about a person by how he treats those below him?” A voice asked from the darkness.
“Oh? Is that so?” Mystimon responded sounded annoyed. He was already in a bad mood and not knowing who was out there wasn’t helping. “And what does hiding in the shadows say about you?”
A light chuckle could be heard then the voice replied in a light tone, “I could have many reasons for not wishing to be seen, but your right. It is rude of me.” A moment later a dark shape came into view in the darkness, slowly coming closer.
As the elf digimon’s attention was no longer on him, Ryan had calmed down a bit after being dropped. Turning so he could see better he looked towards the figured walking towards them. The tall lean dark form seemed to have horns or at least a horned helm on his head and was wearing various pieces of armor he thought was red in color. He had a breast plate with a bat engraved on it and around his waist a belt with metal triangular shaped loin cloth like plates hanging for it on the front, back and sides. He had on shoulder, arm, and leg guards on as well.
As he got even closer he realized the reason he seemed so dark was he had black skin. Blinking he looked closer and saw that his hands and feet were clawed, that he had a single black feathered wing on his left side and along tail with blades near the tip.
“I’m KnightDemon.” He said then bowed in a way that seemed to mock Mystimon. “I’d say I was pleased to finally meet you Lord Mystimon, as I’d been wanting too for a while now, but after seeing how you where ready to knock that human boy senseless I’m not sure now.”
“What does seeing me punishing my runaway slave have to do with you being happy to meet me?” He asked sending a glare in Ryan’s direction, which made the teen look away, before he looked back the demon digimon.
“Everything.” The demon said simply. “I’d heard that while you allowed slavery, you’ve been fair and just to humans and digimon alike for the most part. I hadn’t realized you keep slaves you’re self. I thought you may be someone I may wish to ally with, but now I’m sure that wouldn’t work. Not while I wish to see humans freed and governing themselves without us overseeing them.”
“You sound like that dame werewolf and birdwoman.” Mystimon stated, eyeing the demon wondering if he may be with them. He’d never heard of the wolf having a demon with him, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t. Reaching into a pocket on the inside of his cloak and wrapped his fingers around the orb he always kept with him.
“Hmm… WereGarurumon and Zephyrmon… I’ve heard of them. If you really think we’ll share the same ideals then maybe I should go find them.” KnightDemon said as a slight grin appeared on his face. “Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think I’ll be going now as I doubt we’ll find anything we have in common that’s worth talking about.”
“I’m afraid not. If you really do mean to go meet up with WereGarurumon I can’t let you leave.” Mistymon said pulling out his orb, which started to glow, then rose off his hand to float before him. GrapLeomon, who had remained silent and in the background till know moved to his Lords side. He didn’t have his unique armor on, but even so was ready to fight.
From where he was laying on the ground still, Ryan turned his head and closed his eyes. He didn’t want to see this... If the demon really was speaking the truth he about how he felt he wished he’d kept quiet about it and left before it had come to this. Or was he trying to provoke Mystimon into fighting?
Seemingly unconcerned that the two wished to attack him, KnightDemon flexed his wing and folded his arms. “As much as I’d like to spar with you, I think I’ll pass this time. I’m really not in the mood right now.”
“I don’t give a dame whether or not you’re in the mood.” Mystimon growled out and a wave of tiny darts of energy shot out of the orb and flew towards KnightDemon.
To the two watching him it almost appeared that the black skinned demon sighed before he moved almost too fast for their eyes to keep up with. He’d dashed a few feet to the left to avoid the attack.
“Last chance to walk away.” He said holding his right hand before him. The space before his hand seemed to warp and tendrils of dark energy could be seen snaking around his hand. The shape of a sword with a red wavy blade and black bat like guard appeared moments later and he clasped his hand around the red hilt as it solidified.
Mystimon eyed the weapon warily then glanced over at Grapleomon. While it was two on one… well five on one if Strikedramon, Dobermon and Andalusamon joined. Only the horse and humanoid reptilian adult digimon were fully armed (well just armored in Andalusamon’s case). Both he and Grapleomon were in their casual clothing and not prepared to fight a fully armed Perfect. While he thought they may do just fine if they all attacked, he worried the most about Dobermon as he was a tracker not a fighter. Also it didn’t help any that he had no clue what the demon was capable of. Did he want to risk someone getting hurt?
“Get out of my sight.” He said holding his hand up to the glowing sphere. The light faded as it fell into his hand.
Nodding slightly at the unsaid threat of what would happen next time they meet, KnightDemon spread his one wing and took off into the night sky.
Keeping any sign that he was impressed the demon could fly well with just one wing off his face, Mystimon watched him till he could no longer make out the dark form in the night sky, then turned and looked down at the light brown haired boy still laying on the ground behind him. He noted that while he was curled up in to a ball and facing away from them, he was no longer shaking. Bending down he grasped the boys arm, then pulled him to his feet. Pulling him along with him he walked over to the purple horse and mounted. Once he was settled in he pulled Ryan up to lie on his stomach before him, and then started back.
~~~
It was a little after midnight when the manor came into view. As he looked at it Ryan wasn’t sure whether to be happy the ride would soon be over or not. As much as it hurt to lie on his aching stomach before the Elf digimon on the horse, he feared what would happen once they were back.
As they road up the path to the stone building Mystimon waved Strikedramon closer and said something in a low voice that Ryan didn’t quite catch. Nodding the purple skinned dragon man left the group and headed down to the camp were the rest of Mystimon guards were, Dobermon tailing along after him.
Ryan wondered why he’d gone there, when before he’d stayed in the manor, but didn’t get a chance to think about it long as Mystimon suddenly pushed him off Andalusamon. Landing on his back he lay there slightly dazed, as the fall had knocked the wind out of him, while Mystimon dismounted and started to remove the saddle and bridle from Andalusamon. Absentmindedly he noted the bridle for the purple horse had no bit as he sat up. Looking over at GrapLeomon’s horse he saw that Greg was taking care of it while the stable master watched on. For a brief moment Greg’s eyes meant his. In the moment they were looking at each other, before the older man turned, Ryan could tell he wished to say something but didn’t dare with others around.
’Is he disappointed that I ran? Or angry that I was caught?’ He wondered for a moment before the sound of hooves drew his attention. Turning his head so he could see, he saw Strikedramon was returning alone. Leaving his horse near GrapLeomon’s he hoped off and went over to Mistymon who was finished with Andalusamon and had sent the purple horse digimon off to get some rest.
“Here.” Strikedramon held up what looked like a wrapped up length of thick chain to the elf digimon.
“Thank you.” Taking the chain Mystimon turned to look at the teen on the ground. As he got closer Ryan saw there as a heavy lock on one end of the chain and what look like manacles on the other. His expression never changing he took the teens arms one at a time locked the cuffs around his wrists behind his back.
“Stand up.”
Scrambling to do as he was told he awkwardly got to his feet and followed Mystimon toward the house. Pausing by the back door the elf digimon waited for GrapLeomon and Strikedramon to go inside. Once they were alone Mystimon turned back to look at Ryan. Taking his chin in his head he lifted his head so he could look at the purple and blue bruise spread across the boys left temple and cheek. He couldn’t see in the dark as well as some digimon but with the light from the half moon and the little light streaking out from the ajar door he could see well enough.
“Looks like it’s going to swell.” He whispered mostly to himself as he ran a slender but strong finger across the bruise. After a moment Mystimon’s hand dropped away from his face to reach down and pull up his shirt. Ignoring how the boy had gone stiff he knelt down to looked at the nasty black and yellow splotch spreading across his stomach. Reaching his fingers out again, he gently and lightly ran them across that bruise as well.
“You didn’t really think you get away did you?” The elf digimon asked looking up at the light brown haired boys face. “You had no food, nowhere to go, and not even something to keep you from freezing at night. It really was a stupid thing to do.”
“I know…” Ryan replied in a low voice as he returned the gaze, but avoided looking into the digi’s eyes.
“Then why’d you do it?” Mystimon prompted. Unlike before when he was questioning the boy, his angry wasn’t fueling his actions. He was still angry, but not to the point he wanted to beat the answers out.
Afraid of being hit again Ryan gaze dropped to the ground next to them. He opened his mouth to answer but nothing came out. Mystimon didn’t seem to get angry or impatient with him as the silent’s stretched on. Unlike before he seemed content to wait for the boy to find his voice.
Gaining a little courage as he hadn’t been hit or anything yet, the teens eyes rose back up to Mystimon’s face. “I freaked out… when I heard you and grapleomon talking…”He said finally in a low voice as he watched the elf digimon’s face for the anger he’d seen before. Not seeing any sign of it yet he slowly went on, “I hate what you have me do… and I don’t know if I can stand you touching me like that again.” The last bit came out as barely a whisper and Mystimon’s pointy ears barely heard it.
“My touch…” Reaching up he took a hold of the boys chin again and made him meet his eyes. “Some of my slaves have come to love my touch. Some of them even started out just like you.” Looking into the boy’s light hazel eyes his tone became husky, and the hand not holding the teens chin started to lightly fondle him thought his clothes.“You may not like it now, but that can easily change if you let it. Not that I mind. Happily willing or not, I’ll still have you.”
Looking down at the ground Ryan nodded. He didn’t know what else to do. He didn’t want the digimon touching him, but that wasn’t going to change anything.
Letting go of the boy’s chin he gave his manhood a squeeze before moving away. Picking up the end to the chain he’d set down, he stood up. He walked over to one of the thick log support beams holding up balcony over the back door. It had two Large metal rings hanging from it, one near the top and one about halt way up. The elf digimon ran the chain though the lower of the two rings. After snapping lock closed he started toward the door, leaving the upset teen standing next to the post with his hands behind his back.
Halfway there a light breeze blew around his long hair and cloak a little. Stopping he looked back at the boy, who’d started to shiver in his light shirt and pants. “He’ll be frozen in the morning if I leave him in just that…” He muttered shaking his head lightly. Pulling his orb out off its pocket he keep held it in his left hand and untied his cloak. Walking back over to the boy he dropped it over him. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
Surprised by the gesture Ryan watched as the digimon left for the house for real this time. The indigo cloak had a soft interlining was warmer than any blanket he’d had since becoming a slave. Trying to forget whose cloak it was, he sat down with his side against beam and did his best to get comfortable with his hands behind his back.
Looking out at the night sky Mystimon’s words ran though his head, and he could almost fell his hands on him again… ’What am I going to do?’ Now that he was alone again his fears seemed to double and he couldn’t help but think of what the digimon would do now that he owned him. Hearing a sound to his right he jumped and turned glazing into the dark, trying to spot whatever had made it. His upset mind imagining it was the elf digimon coming back…
At first all he could make out was a dark shape in the dark, but as it got closer he realized it was Greg. ’I forgot he was seeing to the horses.’ He thought relaxing now he knew it wasn’t Mystimon or an animal of some kind.
“You stupid idiot…” The older man said as he knelt down at his side. “I’d smack you but I noticed earlier that someone already has. I’m guessing it was Mystimon right? I’ve never seen anyone as angry as he was when he realized you’d taken off. Why did you run anyway? If you’re having problems dealing with that… with Mystimon you know you could come to me and Kat.”
Realizing Greg didn’t know he’d been sold to the elf digimon he bit his lip. “It’s not that simple… You guys can’t help. Not anymore…” Trailing off he looked away from the man. “He talked Grapleomon into selling me to him.”
Hearing Greg swear worse then he’d even heard anyone ever before swear, he blinked and looked up as the older man wrapped his arms around him and proceeded to almost crush him in a hug. He’d likely have been able to handle it normally, but with the bruise over his stomach for being kicked, and having his arm behind his back it was agony. Hearing the boy’s pained gasp Greg quickly let go. “Sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you. Are you ok?”
“Yeah… Stomach’s just sore.” Ryan told him once he had his breath back.”Mystimon kicked me as well.” He admitted at the man’s questioning look. Shifting slightly to try and ease the pain he caused the chain links to clink together.
Hearing the sound Greg moved the cloak enough to see that Ryan had his hand bond behind his back. Shaking his head he pulled the cloak back around the boy, making sure he it was wrapped around him well. Getting to his feet he sighed, “I’d stay but…”
“I know… there’s no point in you getting in trouble too though.” Ryan told him. Greg nodded but stood there for a minute before heading inside. Once he was along again Ryan looked up at the moon. His arms already ached, ’This is going to be a long night…’
