Late into the evening, two days after his grand self-appellation, Hiro was awakened from his restoration cycle by an amber alert beacon flashing brilliantly through his mind. He reached up sleepily to his circlet and somehow found the will to concentrate on the message that was streaming across the holo-screen in front of his face.
Evidently the information cycle had at last finished imprinting data into his young charge's brain and the pod he was in, following standard protocol, had relinquished it's control of the boy's consciousness.
In other words, he was awake.
What Hiro didn't understand was why he was receiving an amber alert simply because the boy was no longer sedated.
He scanned the message once more for information he might possibly have missed the first time, but found nothing of note. Suddenly worried over the boys condition, he rose swiftly from his sleeping platform and headed at a brisk yet appropriate pace down to the healing quadrant.
When he grew near his charge's pod he noticed a small crowd had gathered outside of it. The group seemed to be made up of young attendants and several exotic pets-in-training, all no doubt anxious to get a peak at the newest and most highly valued arrival to the ship.
Marching with authority, head held high, Hiro approached them. Several of the throng breathed audible sighs of reprieve when they saw him coming.
“Headmaster!” One of them gasped in relief, and the group began to part to let him through. A small wave of Hiro's hand toward the pod raised the lights inside back up to full spectrum. He could hear muffled sounds coming from within and his pulse quickened with worry.
He turned swiftly to address the group of young attendants which had gravitated around him like small puppies.
“Lord Tatsuha has made it abundantly clear that no one is to disturb this newest acquisition without express permission from either himself or myself. Presently, you are all violating operative command and I have every mind to report each and every one of you. This new slave is very fragile at the moment and I shudder to think about what would be done to the attendant or pet that is caught furthering his stress by gawking and making a spectacle of him. If you do not wish to be reported I suggest you take your charge’s back to their rooms or to an alternate location outside the proximity of this pod's quadrant. Immediately.”
As soon as he finished talking Hiro received several swift bows and a few apologetic remarks before the crowd promptly dispersed. He could hear several pets complaining to each other as they were dragged unwillingly away by their attendants, but he ignored them, his concern for his charge mounting.
Another hand gesture opened the familiar arched doorway, which allowed even his impressive height to pass comfortably into the room.
The second he stepped into the pod Shuichi sprung on him, feebly pounding at him with clenched fists. Hiro was shocked by this violent behaviour at first but, noticing the tears streaming uncontrollably down the boy’s face, his surprise quickly turned to concern for the poor creature. Obviously he had woke to find that he was still in the setting of his last dream, thus realizing that he was not, nor had he ever been, dreaming at all. Hiro could see now what had caused the amber alert; Emotional distress.
“What's going on here!?” Shu cried at the top of his lungs. “Where am I!? I want to go home! I want to go HOME!”
Hiro made low crooning noises and brought his warm arms around the boy's bare shoulders to quiet him.
Shuichi wanted none of it, but he was tired. Tired of being in the strange room with no furniture, tired of never eating and yet never getting hungry, and tired of this stranger having such a strong effect on his emotions. He fought and struggled against his desire to do as Hiro asked, but it was no use. Fighting it only seemed to relax him further.
When he felt the boy finally give in, Hiro pulled him closer.
“Shh, shh, it's okay little one, there's no need to cry. I'm here now, just be still.”
Shuichi's sobbing slowly quieted as he huddled, trembling, into Hiro's embrace. It wasn't that he cared for Hiro specifically, he was merely the only person Shu had come into contact with since arriving. In his emotional state he craved the comfort of positive human contact, which he had consistently gotten from the towering lilac skinned man. While he was a source of stress, for the time being, he was also a source of comfort.
Though slightly surprised by the sudden display of trust and affection, Hiro smiled. “That's it, there's a good boy,” he encouraged.
Gently, Hiro lifted him up and put him properly back into bed.
When the boy was tucked back under the covers, Hiro stood back up as if to leave.
“Don't leave me alone again,” The boy whispered, sitting up to get back out of bed.
Hiro turned back quickly to calm him.
“Do not worry little one, I'm not going far.”
This explanation was apparently not good enough.
“Where are you going?” Shu asked, his voice on edge.
Hiro walked back to the boy and placed a gentle hand on his head, sending calming thoughts to reassure him.
“I must speak with the healing quadrants head physician, to get permission to remove you from the room. I won't be but a minute, I promise.”
Shuichi didn't really understand, but he nodded, his eyes still burning from the tears.
When Hiro returned less than ten minutes later, he was carrying a shimmering blue bag and a dark, square, wooden box.
A quick jerk upwards with his open palm caused a table to spring seamlessly out of the floor so fast that it made Shuichi jump. Hiro set the box down on the newly formed table and began to open the bag.
“You still haven't answered my questions you know!” Shuichi voiced loudly, still just as upset as he was when he'd woke up to find the familiar space from his assumed dream world still enclosing him.
“Hiro?”
The man fussed with what he was removing from the bag, pretending not to hear the boy's questioning tone.
“Dammit, answer me!”
Hiro sighed. There was no point in avoiding the topic, especially now that the training was officially about to begin.
He walked over to Shuichi's bedside and sat down, a chair springing silently up out of the floor to catch him. It did so in the same manner that the table had earlier, springing up and out exactly where Hiro needed it.
“I have already tried to explain this to you before, but I am fairly certain you believed you were dreaming so--”
“So I'm not dreaming…” Shu whispered mournfully. He stared with blank eyes --looking past the man at his bedside-- at the bag and box on the table. The aura exuded by those two seemingly inconspicuous items was suddenly ominous and foreboding. Though he had no idea what was in them, Shuichi guessed that the items they contained had something to do with what Hiro was trying to tell him.
“I will not enjoy this conversation. I can guarantee you won't receive any enjoyment from it either and given your intense level of interest in the subject it appears I have little choice in sparing us from it. But before we begin…”
Hiro stood up and went to retrieve the wooden box off the table.
Sitting down again he lifted the lid so that Shuichi could see what was inside. There, nestled around a spherical velvet form, was some sort of necklace-- a metallic black circle, encrusted with several simply cut crystals that sparkled in the bright glow of the room. Shu was mesmerized by the beauty of the jewellery and he reached out as if to touch it. He paused, fingers poised in mid air as he shot a glance at Hiro.
“What is it?” he asked.
Hiro took the piece out of the box and held it out to the boy so he could examine it. Shuichi hesitated, not wanting to hold something that looked to be worth more than his own life, but Hiro gave a reassuring nod and placed it in the boys hands before he could object.
“It's a training collar.” Hiro Explained. “It's for you to wear around your neck. Here--” He took the collar from his charge and, after lifting the boy's hair out of the way, secured it around his neck. At once the metal ring fit itself to it's new owner, shrinking snugly into place and emitting three high pitched beeps.
Shuichi reached a hand up to see where the clasp was and found the entire ring to be smooth and united. There was no seam, as though it were forged from one solid piece of metal.
“How does it come off?”
Hiro smiled. He wasn't happy he'd had to resort to trickery to get the collar in place, but he was relieve that it was finally on all the same.
“Only myself or your master may remove it.” He stated simply, knowing that this answer was only going to spark more questions.
Shuichi stared, confusion and disbelief sweeping across his face like wild fire across an open field.
“Little one, I--”
“I'm not little!” Shuichi interrupted, “A-and I have a name! You'd know what it was if you'd been bothered enough to ask.”
Hiro opened his mouth to retort defensively, but he knew the boy was right. Sheepishly, he shrugged his shoulders in defeat.
“Forgive me little one, it was not my intention to forget something so important. Your arrival was unexpectedly hectic, but…that is no excuse.” He gave a curt bow of his head and smiled. “What is your name?”
He'd been so preoccupied with the boys precarious state of health upon his arrival that he'd neglected to ask him the most basic of questions when things had finally calmed down. Perhaps his age was affecting his performance, as a few of the haughtier young pupils at the Attendants Academy often suggested.
“It's Shuichi, though I prefer Shu if you're asking in earnest.”
“Shuichi,” Hiro repeated to himself, “How very interesting.”
Shu tilted his head to one side. “What's interesting about it?” He had always found his name to be so boringly provincial.
“Oh, well I am just shocked by how close your name is to the name of Lord Tatsuha's favourite pet, Ryuichi. It's quite interesting. I wonder if his name came from your planet’s language…”
“His pet?” Shuichi asked, suddenly a lot more interested in the conversation. “What kind of animal is it? A dog or cat or something?”
He'd always had a great fondness for animals.
Hiro laughed, flashing his fangs. “An animal he might be in some areas, but certainly not the four legged variety you are thinking of. No, little one he is of human origin, like yourself.”
Shuichi couldn't make sense of what he'd heard. How could you keep a person as a pet? How was something so terrible even allowed?
After a moments thought, a nauseous feeling started to grow in the pit of his stomach. His mind began fitting the pieces of past conversations together, parts that had confused him, creating the most horrifying picture imaginable.
It suddenly all made sense.
The strange men he'd met in the capital, the light that had enveloped him as he lay bleeding on the ship, Hiro's sudden appearance at his side and the collar fastened around his neck.
He was to be someone's pet.
Someone's property.
A slave.
It was the only explanation he could come up with.
Shock overwhelmed him and for a moment he didn't feel anything at all. Not anger, or sadness. Nothing.
He felt empty inside, as though someone had stolen his soul.
Hiro watched with fascination as the new pet's mind worked to reach a conclusion. It had been some time since he'd seen a pet figure things out so quickly, and with such limited aid.
“I…I'm to be the same as this Ryuichi…aren't I? I'm to be somebody's…pet?” Shu choked out the last word as his voice began to fail him.
Hiro always had difficulty with this part of the training process, at least with exotics. He had never been one to question his lot in life, and he supposed his being born into a life of captivity and servitude provided him the luxury of never having to lose his freedom. He'd never had to experience what Shuichi was going through, what all wild caught pets experienced. He was not genetically engineered to empathize particularly well, but what approximation to empathy time had granted him went out to the boy in that moment. Losing one's freedom, he surmised, would surely be a difficult ordeal to overcome.
Experience taught him that most pets of Shuichi's persuasion needed time to grieve the loss of their former lives before submitting to their new realities as pets. With an uncharacteristic glance towards the future, Hiro imagined how his charge would one day look back on his first days of training and laugh at what he had once been. Hiro hoped that day came sooner rather than later, because the crushed look on the boy’s face was causing him to feel an unusual amount of pain in a place that, for years, he had not felt much of anything; In his heart.
After several minutes of silence, Hiro determined that the best course of action for the boy now was to move forward, rather than wallow in the past. He touched the boy’s arm, a brief comforting gesture, and then went to get the silk bag off the table.
“Come now, let's get you dressed. Sitting around moping about thing's you cannot change will not do you any good.”
Shuichi blinked back the tears that threatened to fall as he looked at Hiro and the long silver robe he held out. Slowly, he forced his body to get out of bed and walk over to the man. Head hung, he let himself be dressed like a doll. What other choice did he have? His thoughts drifted home, back to his family and friends. To the people he would, in all likelihood, never set eyes on again. His mother's face lingered in his mind, her bright smile serving to darken his thoughts, because in his heart he knew it was a smile he'd never see again. The mother inside his mind started to cry, as if she knew something was wrong. Resisting the urge to cry with her was suddenly too big a thing to ask of his already shattered strength. Abruptly, he disintegrated into tears, collapsing to the floor in a sobbing heap at Hiro's feet.
“Oh come now, that isn't going to change anything.” Hiro bent and scooped the weeping young man back onto his feet. Shuichi shot him a defiant glare as he wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his new outfit.
Not wanting him to soil his new clothes, Hiro swatted the boys hand away from his face, perhaps a little harder than was necessary. Instantly he regretted it as the boy shrunk away from him in fear. He took a deep breath and centered himself. Shuichi was proving to be more of a challenge for him to stay detached from than any pet he'd trained before. He was both perturbed and intrigued by the emotional flood the boy had him wading through.
Shuichi stiffened his arms at his sides, his glaring violet eyes now revealing his sorrow and anxiety clearer than ever.
Hiro gave an apologetic sigh.
“Forgive me little one, that was…uncalled for.”
Shu did not respond. He reached into his pocket and retrieved a loop of leather that had a small metal ball holding the two ends together firmly.
“I am not supposed to form emotional attachments to your kind,” he clarified as he brought the loop up to Shuichi's collar.
“You, however, are--” he hummed as he searched for the correct word-- “An anomaly, and an enigmatic one at that. It is frustrating to want to comfort you and protect you, when duty also has me playing the roll of your antagonist.” He touched the metal ball to Shu's collar and pulled his hand back. A long blue line of light stretched between the loop in Hiro's hand and the collar.
Shuichi stared at the new link between them with wide eyes. He stepped backwards curiously and watched with something akin to horror as the blue line lengthened to maintain the connection. The boy kept backing up until, after he was about six feet from Hiro, his collar beeped, the line stopped extending and he felt resistance on his neck. He knew it. It was a leash.
In his anger, he tugged a bit harder to test the strength of the almost invisible tether. Hiro's hand jumped a bit, but the line held firm it's connection. His collar beeped again, this time using a much more insistent warning tone.
“I apologize for this as well.” Hiro offered as he gestured to the leash. “I knew you would not be happy with it, though unfortunately it is mandatory for all pets in training to be leashed when not in quarters or inside a designated and appropriately marked off-leash zone.”
Ignoring Hiro's explanation, ignoring his collar's beeps of warning, Shuichi planted his feet firmly on the floor and jerked backwards with all his strength. Hiro let go of the leash and Shuichi stumbled forward, coughing as his collar tightened around his neck.
“For pity's sake, get back over here or you'll strangle yourself!”
Shuichi, now gagging and gasping for breath walked back towards Hiro and, once he was inside the invisible six foot safety ring, his collar relented it's grip.
Hiro moved to put a hand on the boys shoulder as he took up the leash once again. The new pet gulped in a huge lungful of air.
“If I have you leashed you must stay within the boundary zone that the leash allows. Move outside of it, or cause me to drop the leash and the collar's escape prevention mechanism, the choking sensation you experienced, is going to activate. Is that understood?”
Shuichi, breath nearly back to normal, just looked at his attendant wearily and nodded.
“Good Boy.” Hiro exclaimed happily and gave a soft experimental tug on the lead. Shuichi practically jumped to stand by his side, wanting to avoid the choking punishment of the collar at all costs.
Looking down, Hiro saw that the boy was watching him very closely, tears quivering at the edges of his eyes. He looked absolutely terrified.
“Oh little pet,” Hiro sighed remorsefully as he pulled the boy into his arms. Shuichi started to sob and murmur weakly into the taller man's robes as he let himself be coddled.
“What am I going to do with you?” Hiro whispered softly as he stroked the boy's long pink hair.
“I'm sorry,” Shuichi cried quietly against Hiro's warm chest. “I'm so scared. I just…I don't know what's happening. One minute there's an explosion and my friend is dieing in my arms and the next thing I know I'm waking up here, in a place where nothing makes sense, and I've got a strange purple man telling me I'm somebody's possession.”
While Hiro didn't fully understand the scope of what his young charge was going through, he did know that it was causing the boy a considerable amount of stress. He needed to tell him something to help him get over his former life and nothing that came to his mind was very pleasant.
“I know this is going to sound cruel little one, but this is simply the way things are for you now. While your life may not be what it was, it is in no way over. In fact you were nearly dead when we transported you here. You would have bled to death if we'd left you on your planet. We saved you.”
Shuichi hunted through his jumbled memories. He remembered the explosion, and the burning wet pain in his shoulder where the shrapnel had hit him. He brought a hand up to pull down the shoulder of his robe. There was a round pink scar where the wound had been.
He'd been so confused and had had so much thrown at him that he'd completely forgotten his injury and it was already healed over. How long had he been asleep?
Hiro squeezed him tight again.
“Your old life ended on that ship Shuichi. You have a new life to live now and I know this may be hard to hear, but the best thing you can do is forget your old life. Forget everything and everyone, it is the only way you will ever truly come to accept your new existence.”
“I can't!” Shu sobbed repeatedly as he shook his head.
“You must!” Hiro cried, his heart breaking as the small body in his arms began to shake.
“Fighting it will do you no good. This life is yours now and you will be forced to live it, day after day, whether you want to or not. It will be so much easier for you to endure it if you learn to accept it for what it is.”
Shuichi pushed out of Hiro's grasp.
“How can I accept a life that is chosen for me?! A life I have no control over?! How?!”
Hiro held the boy by his shoulders.
“You will not be ill cared for little one, and I will be with you wherever you go until you send me away. Don't you realize how rare and special a thing you are?”
Shuichi stared at him in disbelief. He was special?
“Oh you silly boy you have no idea do you? Don't you see? People pay tens of thousands of Riyals for pets who are common when compared to such a rare thing as yourself. You are going to spend the rest of your life surrounded by pleasure, decadence, and luxuries that you can't yet even begin to imagine! Is complete freedom really so much to trade for such a life?”
Shuichi looked away, one hand toying absently with his new collar. The emotional weight carried by that single strip of decorated metal felt like it was going to crush him.
“I wish that you'd just left me to die.” he whispered.
Hiro gave a gentle tug on the leash and the boy turned to look at him. “You might wish it now, but come with me. Let me teach you all there is to know about your new life, let me show you who you are and what you can become. Perhaps you will realise what a gift you have been given.”
Shuichi did not reply. He followed, wordlessly, behind Hiro, eyes glued to the floor as he allowed the leash to guide him to their destination.
Everything he saw was both completely new and yet totally familiar to him at the same time, as though his head were filled with somebody else's memories. He knew how the elevators worked, he knew what powered the light that glowed softly from behind the walls, floors and ceilings of the corridors they walked down. And yet he had no memory of ever seeing these places himself, with his own eyes. The knowledge was simply there for him to retrieve.
If he hadn't already been accustomed to strangers staring at him in awe as he passed, the stares coming from the other occupants of the ship's hallways might have unnerved him.
Hiro glanced back at the boy from time to time, and every time he looked his young charge had his eyes plastered to the floor, his head hung solemnly as though he were a condemned man walking toward the gallows.
After walking for what seemed like an eternity, the pair finally arrived at their destination.
Shuichi's quarters.
Broad double doors with no handles slid opened as Hiro swiped his hand over a sensor on one of them.
As upset as he was, Shuichi could not help but stare at the lush room that spread out on the other side of the doors.
Thick red carpets and gleaming white tile floors covered the expanse of the cavernous room. The walls, he noted with delight, were covered in a moving, shimmering tapestry of a forest, so realistic looking that he'd swear the walls were made of glass and he was looking out on the scene in real life. He watched with astonishment as deer-like creatures he had never seen before frolicked together across the smooth glassy surface of the walls. He put his hand out tentatively to touch the wall and one of the spotted fawnlings stopped playing for a moment to take a step towards his hand. It gazed curiously at him before darting away to a place further into the living tapestry where, Shuichi assumed, it thought it was safe.
“I knew you would like this room. I chose it for you myself.” Hiro declared contentedly. He lead the boy further in and the doors shut silently behind them.
“How did you know I would like it?” Shuichi asked, now mesmerized by the ceiling, which he realised was part of the same tapestry as the walls. It displayed a bright blue sky filled with colourful birds darting and swooping through the clouds.
“Just a guess.” He smiled, flashing his brilliant white teeth.
Everywhere Shuichi looked there was something else to see, to admire. The furniture was simple, yet beautiful. Most of it was black or white or some other solid color. The simplicity of the furnishings really helped to bring out the color and life in the walls, which had enough to complement the entire space and then some. Shuichi hadn't known such a room could exist, and yet there it was. They walked through an ornately carved wooden archway into what was clearly the bed chamber. The carpeting was an earthen brown, the draperies along the walls were a deep green hue with a white pattern of milk-thistle and roses. In the center of the room on top of a raised platform was a gigantic, silver, four post bed with a canopy and drapes made of living, growing vines.
Hiro reached over to the boy and touched the leash handle to his collar. The lead flashed a dazzling white and then disappeared, freeing the new pet.
“You can go anywhere you want in your room, but the main door will only open if you are leashed and at my side.” Hiro explained as he pocketed the leash.
Shuichi murmured his acknowledgment and went to examine the vine curtains of the bed more closely. He ran his hands over them, relishing their lush velveteen smoothness.
When he turned back to ask Hiro where the vines where rooted he was shocked to see that his attendant was almost completely nude, and what was more he had a brilliantly striped, cougar-like tail which was twitching and curling itself lazily around one of his legs.
“What are you doing?!” he cried, blushing furiously as the last of Hiro's clothes hit the floor.
Hiro started to glide toward him, his movement very flowing and more cat-like than Shu remembered it being. His long, furred tail twitched from side to side countering the sway of his hips.
The boy wanted to back away, but he was frozen by the beauty of the strange, beautiful body exhibited before him. Hiro's luscious lilac skin moving and shifting over his sinuous, toned muscles was mesmerizing; Like moving art.
The white stripes with the purple accents decorating his cheek bones and shoulders had counterparts covering his sides down to mid thigh. The skin of his stomach was snow white from his navel to the middle of his chest and all of it glowing with the same faint light as the stripes. Shuichi's cheeks burned as he realised he was staring. Hiro was as much a man as he was --that much was now abundantly clear-- and yet the boy was starting to feel aroused by the strange man's exotic, yet familiar nakedness.
“I told you little one, that I would show you how you are different, how you are special. You have many unique features to be sure, but none so powerful or easily accessed as your skills as a lover. I am going to help you see what you are, what you were born to be.”
Hiro kept pacing, getting closer and closer. For his every step forward, Shuichi countered with a step in reverse.
Hiro grinned at the boy's coy behaviour. When Shu saw the flash of his attendant's fangs framed by his seductive smile, he felt something twitch low in his body. A soft gasp escaped his lips as an unfamiliar flame started to flicker and grow inside him.
Shu continued to back away until his legs bumped into the bed, causing him to fall backwards onto it. Groaning the boy scrambled to his knees --which was difficult to do in his lengthy silver robe-- and backed away as Hiro hopped lithely onto the bed and landed on all fours. His intense predatory gaze locked on the boy in front of him as if he were a jungle cat, and the boy a frightened animal.
“J-just stay there! I don't want you to come any closer.” Shuichi gasped, putting an arm out in an effort to keep Hiro away. The tiny flame inside him blazed angrily. He was aware now that his body was growing hard under his clothes, despite his anxiety.
“I think that you do want me to come closer, little one. Your arousal is palpable.” Hiro stuck out his tongue, licking his lips to accentuate his words, and Shuichi's hardness twitched in anticipation. A guttural, anxious chuff rumbled from deep in his throat as he watched the boy's body quake. Shuichi and Hiro both jumped at the animalistic noise. Both were startled momentarily by it, and Hiro shook his head in disbelief. He couldn't believe that such a primitive, desperate sound had come from his mouth. Was he really so in need that something so basic had been forced out of his body?
Hiro had not trained a new pet in some time, in fact, he had come out of retirement to take Shuichi at the behest of Lord Tatsuha, who claimed no other attendant would do. As an attendant, Hiro was not permitted to engage in sexual relations unless he was instructing a pet, and he had given up personal attending over one hundred years previous to take on the exalted position of Headmaster at the attendant's academy. It had been a long time since he had had the opportunity to engage any pet, much less a virgin, and he hated to admit that he was already much more excited than he should have allowed himself to become. He had missed seeing the flash of apprehension in a pet's eyes as he moved toward them. Their uncertainty and innocence was intoxicating.
He closed his eyes, centering himself in an attempt to regain his composure. It was his job to teach pets that sex was a wonderful, pleasurable, thing. If he let himself get lost in his own quest for gratification, he would not only be doing his duty improperly, but the pet's psyche and view of coition may possibly be affected in a negative way. The mere thought of such a thing happening, and worse, being his fault, caused him to feel great shame.
Hiro held a very prestigious station in life. He was well respected by his peers and his name and reputation preceded him among the members of Acceria's aristocracy, an impressive feat for a Bio-droid like himself who was created soley to serve humans. He thought himself mature enough to have put his desire for frivolous carnal pleasures securely behind him in his youth, but clearly he had been wrong.
He was bred and born in a human environment, he had human genes spliced into his DNA and humans had programmed the various organic microchips that resided in various key parts of his body, but he was and always would be a predator at his core. A sexually driven, acutely emotional hunter from the deep recesses of space.
A tiny part deep inside of him still longed to experience the thrill of the hunt and he often dreamt of running swiftly through jungles he had never set foot in, in pursuit of prey he had never seen, nor tasted, just as his wild ancestors had done before humans had colonized their planet.
“Hiro…you're scaring me.”
The attendant was now upon the boy, who had backed up into the headboard and had no place to go.
“Don't be afraid, little pet.” He purred softly, stroking the boy's hair. Hiro was delighted to find Shuichi unconsciously leaning into his caresses.
“Trust me, you are going to enjoy what is to come. I am here only to please you. To teach you.”
Hiro brought a hand up to caress the boy's face. Shuichi shuddered and moaned softly as he leaned into the inviting velvet touch. Despite wanting to resist Hiro's skilled advances, he was finding it increasingly difficult to do so. Before he knew it his robe was gone, and his supple, naked body and the warm erect hardness between his legs were on full display. Hiro adjusted the young pet on the bed, placing him in a lying position so he would be more comfortable. He began to kiss the boys neck and with every nip and caress of Hiro's lips on his skin, Shuichi shivered.
“Please…stop. Oh…” He moaned softly, and rolled his neck to allow Hiro better access to it. The older of the two obliged Shu's unspoken request and began kissing underneath his jaw. Shuichi's body shook as he panted sporadically.
Never had he done anything like this with anyone before and certainly not with another man. The idea alone, he thought, should have sickened him. But it didn't.
Part of him wanted this other man to keep touching him.
He had no idea what was happening to his body, or what was going to happen if he listened to the little voice in the back of his mind. It was the loudest one, that screamed at him to do something, anything, to put out the fire that was raging inside him.
“Shh…it's alright.” Hiro crooned as his hands slowly began to trace their way to the boy's groin.
He found it odd that the boy's instinctual sex drive had not kicked in and that his mind was still trying to resist what his body clearly wanted. In fact Hiro was surprised that he was the one still in control of their budding encounter. He had fully anticipated being ravished by the young pet, once his dormant talents had been fully awakened.
Males of the Angelis breed had not been known to be especially passive partners in bed, often aggressing and dominating the weaker partner completely with their impressive, inborn sexual skill. It was what made them so desirable to the men and women who could afford them.
Even if Shuichi was not a pure blooded Angelis, his hair and eye coloration --which were genetically linked to the breed's sexual abilities-- were indication enough that the genes were there. Perhaps the boy was just going to be a little slower on the uptake because he was coming to training at a much older age than was generally deemed acceptable? After all, Lord Tatsuha had personally over-ridden the pet registration systems maximum age limit, because the boy was such a rare find, but to what effect? Hiro prayed his charge would still take to the training regardless and he decided to take advantage of the boy's current state to give him his first and most important lesson.
“Pet, remember what I am about to tell you, because it is crucial to the foundation of your existence here, alright?”
Shuichi was grateful for the break in attention to his body. He nodded for Hiro to continue.
“When your master comes to solicit sex, you must always oblige him, no matter what. Regardless of how you are feeling, regardless of the hour, regardless of who is watching. Never refuse your master's advances for any reason. Is that understood?”
Shuichi gulped nervously and gave a brief nod.
“Very good. Now for a little test. Repeat what I just told you.”
Flustered, Shuichi repeated it. “I am never to refuse my master for any reason.”
“Excellent. Again.”
“I am never to refuse my master for any reason.”
“Again.”
Slightly annoyed, Shuichi repeated it a third time.
“Very well done. See that you remember those words. Now, for the practicum. Pretend I am your master. I have just returned home in a most elated mood. I enter the menagerie were you are resting. I begin to engage you, like this--”
He bent down and with no warning at all, captured the boy's mouth with his own. Shu struggled to get away for a few seconds, but then gave in as the strange new flame inside him blazed to life once again.
Shuichi yelped into Hiro's mouth when he felt the other man's tongue enter to touch his, but a reassuring hand came up to press lightly against the side of his jaw and neck. His eyes fluttered as the foreign sensation of having another tongue in his mouth besides his own began to stir things low in his body.
Hiro pulled away and Shuichi gasped for air.
“Now, what do you do?”
The boy could barely breathe, but he gasped out, “Don't…don't refuse, I guess?”
Hiro smirked.
“Wonderful, ” he laughed, “Though a more thorough course of action would be to start engaging him as well. Remember that a clever pet thinks not just of his own sexual needs, but of the needs of his master as well.”
“D-do pet's only belong to…men?” Shuichi asked bashfully.
Hiro beamed, incredibly delighted that the boy was taking the initiative to educate himself.
“No, men and women alike can own pets, as long as they can afford them, however it is far more common for a pet to have a master than a mistress. It is just the way of things in Acceria. Why do you ask, little one?”
Shu winced. He'd been afraid of that.
“I…well, that is, where I come from, men and…other men, don't…they don't…” he gestured with his hands as he bashfully struggled to say what he was thinking.
“They don't engage in coitus with one another on your planet?” Hiro filled in curiously.
Shuichi's breath whooshed out in relief. “No, of course not!”
Hiro cocked his head.
“Really? My, how very strange!” he exclaimed, perplexed. “Why ever not?”
Shuichi had to think for a moment. “Well, it's just…people think it's wrong I suppose. Nobody talks about it, and if you were ever found to have done such things…” he winced, not wanting to think about it.
He'd been to public hangings before and they were not pleasant.
“Ehs, Notu spa'nin desa mos ca'alim…ah, forgive me…so it is, how you would say, taboo?”
Shu was startled to hear Hiro speak in another language. His voice took on the same hypnotic lilt as Lord Tatsuha's did when he spoke and the boy decided it must be that they shared a native language.
“Exactly,” he replied quickly, “It's forbidden.”
Hiro pressed further, genuinely curious to hear of a planet where the inhabitants hindered the forms that their sexual pleasures could take.
“So the males do not do those things? At all? And the females don't either I would assume?”
“I-I'm sure somewhere some people do. In someplace very private perhaps, but they would never speak of it to anyone. They could be killed for doing such things.”
Hiro felt sorry for those that had to hide what most likely came naturally to them.
“That is very sad to hear.”
“Why? It's not like they couldn't have sex the normal way. It's not something worth getting killed over.”
Hiro sighed, wondering how to explain the beliefs of his planet to the boy. He reached out and took his hand gently.
“All pleasures are sacred, little one. They are magnificent gifts from the Great Mother, from Loka.”
“Loka?”
“It is said that all seeds of life in the universe came from the Great Mother. She took the seeds from her body and cast them into her garden. She watered them, tended them and loved them as they began to grow into many forms of life. Each was different from its brothers and sisters, but she loved them all the same.
One day, as Loka watched her children, she noticed that there seemed to be a great sadness among them. She studied them, trying to discover the source of their unhappiness.
She saw that her children had all that they needed; food, water, shelter, and the sun and rain. She decided to give them more of those things, to see if perhaps that would make them smile. It did for a time, the bountiful foods, the harmonious weather and a great many other small things made their lives easier, but they were still unhappy.
Finally, after taking pleasures with her consort one day she realized what her children were missing; Pleasures.
In her haste to give them all else, she had forgotten to give them pleasures. She tried at once to give the gift to her beloved ones, as she had given them rain, had given them animals to hunt and berries to eat, but nothing happened. She tried again and again, but her magic had been spent. So, in an act of utter selflessness, she gave up her own ability to have pleasures, and bestowed it upon her children.”
Shuichi stared, enthralled by the legend.
“All that Loka asked in return was that we share her gift with others. Our joy, she said, brings her joy, and so we pay homage to her for her great sacrifice, by sharing her gift with those around us. It does not matter who it is shared with, as long as those who take part enjoy it.”
Shu found this belief fascinating, if not a little strange, but that was not the most pertinent thing on his mind.
“O-oh…but…still, I just don't see how it's possible. How could two men…be together in… that way?”
Hiro started laughing uncontrollably. This new pet was so amusing it was criminal.
“You silly boy you really don't know?”
Shuichi blushed red again and looked away. He hated being laughed at.
Hiro rolled his eyes. “Oh come now, don't be upset. I am old, little one, far older than you, and your innocence is…refreshing, that's all. If there is something you do not know, or something you would like to know more about please don't ever hesitate to ask me. I will never turn away your questions so long as I am permitted to answer them.”
Shuichi kept his gaze averted, still pouting over being made fun of.
Hiro gently directed his face back towards his own so he could kiss him again. The boy was instantly like putty in his arms, soft and pliable.
“If you do not know how men can pleasure each other,” He whispered softly into the boy's ear, “then I shall teach you.”
Hiro got off the bed and retrieved both their robes off of the floor.
He put his own on and held Shuichi's open for him, gesturing for him to come put it on.
Shuichi gave him a puzzled look. “But I thought you said--”
“Eager are we?” Hiro laughed.
Shuichi stuttered and tried to say no, but the cat-man cut him off.
“Relax, little one. Good things come to those who wait, and for now, I think a nice soothing bath is in order. Sound good to you?”
The boy, suddenly aware he hadn't bathed in days, or weeks, or however long he had been on the ship, nodded as he slid his arms into the extended robe.
“Very good. We have a private bath suite in this room, though in time you will need to get accustomed to bathing with other pets in the menagerie's communal pools. This way.”
Hiro lead them down the corridor that branched off from the bed chamber into a glittering masterpiece. The bath hall --for it was too large and grand to be called a room-- was decorated in rich, dark, granite. Gilded silver bath fixtures, glowing brown wall sconces and sculptures of beautiful winged beasts decorated the room along with a large glittering chandelier and numerous potted plants. In the center of it all, sunken down into the ground itself was a square stone tub which looked to be big enough for ten people. Shuichi breathed deeply, inhaling the scents of lavender and other exotic fragrances he couldn't give names to.
Gasping, he watched as a small flock of tiny, blue, dragon-like creatures fluttered lazily off the ceiling beams to glide gracefully around the chandelier. Hiro gently took the boy’s robe after removing his own, smiling at his rapt fascination with the petite beasts.
“What are they?” the boy asked as one of the creatures spewed a cloud of steam into the room. The exotic scent he couldn't place intensified with the little outburst from the animal above his head.
“They're Ambervescent Dwarf Cloudfins, though most people just call them Tu’lonnaa; “tiny steamer” or “steamling” in your language.” He replied as he motioned for Shuichi to get into the water.
“Very commonplace creatures in the more decorated bathhouses. You'll get used to seeing them.”
Shuichi stepped into the water; it felt heavenly on his skin.
“Why? What do they do?”
Hiro climbed in and sat next to his young charge, his tail twitching uncomfortably as he sank deeper into the water.
“As you can see they do have a rather unique feature, that is, the scented steam they exhale. That's their main purpose here, but I suppose people keep them for their beauty and company as well.”
“Company?”
Hiro reached under the water and grabbed the boy's hand.
“Hold your hand out and see for yourself.”
Shuichi did as the cat-man asked, raising his hand into the air. Immediately one of the tiny creatures dropped down silently, dragonfly-like leather wings cutting through the air, and landed on his outstretched palm. The tiny creature curled it's body gently, almost lovingly, against it's new perch atop the boy’s hand. Clearly it was content to be there, and it confirmed the fact by hissing out another small cloud of steam and peeping out a string of happy metallic sounding chirps. Hiro observed the scene intently, his eyes trained on the boy's gleeful expression.
“It think he likes me,” Shuichi cried happily, as the little dragon began arching it's back gently and rubbing it's head almost cat like against the finger Shu was petting it with.
“She, actually.” Hiro corrected. “The males aren't kept in homes, the scent that they emit is far too unpleasant.”
Shu smiled as the small being began flitting around his head, and pulling mischievously at bits of his hair, as if trying to get him to play.
He didn't want to admit it, but he was enjoying sitting there in the warmth of the water and playing with the little bath hall creatures.
Perhaps, Hiro was right about…
No!, his mind screamed, Don't you dare even think it. You aren't free here remember? you can't live your life like this. Like some caged animal. You need to get back home!
The steamling abruptly halted her playful behaviour and bolted for the ceiling, as if she could hear the screams inside Shu’s mind and did not like what she heard.
What was he to do? A part of him was enthralled by this new place, and the wonderful things he'd seen. He was intrigued to see what other marvels were awaiting him, and perhaps, he admitted, he was a tiny bit curious as to what life might actually be like living as Hiro had said; as a pet. Was being pampered and waited on really such a bad thing to consider?
The other voice in his head was shrieking, telling him to get up and run, somewhere, anywhere. Urging him to do whatever he could to get home to his family.
Now extremely confused, Shuichi blinked back a few stressed tears and slowly sank below the water until his aching head was completely, blissfully, submerged. He knew it was stupid, but he prayed with all his heart that the two voices in his mind would drown under the water and leave him in peace.
His prayer, as usual, went unanswered.

AN: Wow this chapter is long 0.o; I actually thought about cutting it down into two separate chapters, but really I couldn't find a decent enough place to break it off. And sorry about the little almost sexiness tease in there, but trust me there will be a lot more sexy and a lot more drama to come. This is only the tip or the pe…I mean… iceberg.
Do you think it flowed alright, or was it too long? Let me know where you think it should have been broken in two, if you think that would have been better.
