Lessons That Stick

Chapter 4
Several weeks had passed since that unforgettable day in the Sinnoh cabin. The trio had parted ways, but the memory of their shared lesson lingered, a warm, secret ember in each of their minds. Cynthia, back in her champion's suite, had been feeling... different. A persistent, pleasant nausea in the mornings, a fatigue that went beyond battling, and a fullness in her breasts that was new and tender. She had a suspicion, a thrilling, terrifying hope that she needed to confirm.
She found Ash and Dawn in a bustling Pokémon Center, their faces alight with the glow of a recent victory. They were huddled over a Pokédex, arguing good-naturedly about the best strategy for a future gym battle.
"Cynthia!" Ash cried, spotting her first. He and Dawn scrambled to their feet, their faces breaking into wide, welcoming grins.
"Hey, you two," she said, her voice softer than her usual champion's tone. There was a new light in her eyes, a radiant, contented glow. "I have something I need to show you."
She led them to a quiet, secluded corner of the center, away from prying eyes and ears. She took a deep breath, her heart thrumming with a mix of excitement and nervousness. From her jacket pocket, she pulled out a small, white plastic stick.
Ash and Dawn stared at it, uncomprehending. "What's that, Cynthia?" Dawn asked, tilting her head. "A new kind of Pokémon candy?"
Cynthia laughed, a light, musical sound. "Not quite, sweetie." She held it out, turning it so they could see the small, digital window. On it, two clear, undeniable words were displayed: 'PREGNANT'.
The air went still. Ash's jaw dropped. Dawn's eyes widened to the size of saucers. For a moment, there was only silence.
"Does... does that mean...?" Ash started, his voice barely a whisper.
"It means I'm going to have a baby," Cynthia confirmed, her smile widening. She looked directly at Ash, her gaze full of a warmth and pride that made his chest feel tight. "And it means, my little man, that you are quite the early bloomer."
Dawn gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "You're... you're gonna have a baby? And... and it's Ash's?" She looked from the pregnancy test to Ash's stunned face and back again, her mind racing to connect the dots. "But... how?"
"The same way we learned about that day," Cynthia said gently. "His... well, his swimmers were already champions. Strong, fast, and ready for a battle." She winked at Ash. "That's so sexy, don't you think? A ten-year-old who's already potent enough to make a baby."
A slow, dawning comprehension spread across Ash's face. The shock melted away, replaced by a wave of something else—a swelling, powerful feeling of pride. He had done that. He, Ash Ketchum, had made a baby with the Champion of Sinnoh. A huge grin broke out on his face. "Wow," he breathed. "I'm gonna be a dad?"
"You're gonna be a dad," Cynthia affirmed, her voice thick with emotion.
Dawn, however, was the one who truly erupted with excitement. She bounced on the balls of her feet, her hair swinging. "This is the coolest thing ever!" she squealed, grabbing Ash's arm and shaking it. "Ash, you can already make babies! That's amazing! Most grown-ups can't even do that right away!"
She turned to Cynthia, her eyes sparkling. "Can we help name it? Can we help take care of it? Can we teach it how to battle when it's old enough? Oh, can we please?"
Cynthia's heart felt like it might burst. She had expected shock, maybe even fear, but this pure, unadulterated joy was more than she could have hoped for. "Of course you can," she said, reaching out to ruffle Dawn's hair. "You'll both be the best dad and honorary aunt a baby could ask for."
Ash was still staring at the positive test, a look of awe on his face. He looked up at Cynthia, his eyes shining. "A baby," he said again, as if testing the word. "Our baby."
" Our baby," Cynthia repeated, her voice a soft promise. She pulled him into a hug, and Dawn immediately joined in, wrapping her arms around both of them in a group embrace. In the middle of the busy Pokémon Center, the three of them stood locked together, a new, unconventional family, already dreaming of the tiny new trainer they would soon welcome into the world.
