Chapter 5

He was flying as fast as he could and still he felt he m not not
be in time. He had made a promise and he wouldn't fail him, again.

"Please God. Don't let it happen again, not to him"

He was dressed completely in white, from head to toe. Tight pants
and a long sleeve shirt, white shoes and the white cloack that
covered him completely, flapped with the high speed.

"Hold on Shuichi, I promised he wouldn't do it again and I
won't fail you"

Soon he spotted the place he was flying to and he was glad for
what he saw.

"Thank you God"

The man stopped in the air to catch his breath. He saw the four
men inside the flat; all of them were already with their wings
out which meant that, at least, part of the danger was out.

Shuichi looked at his koi with worried eyes; he wanted to explain
him everything but he knew better than doing it. The future of
the world and their own depended of his silence.

"Shuichi, please tell me..."

"He can't... Not yet"

Thank God for small favors. Ryuichi saved him of explaining; he
knew that if he started talking he wouldn't stop until he had
told him everything. Yuki narrowed his eyes; they were hiding
something and he didn't like it.

"Why?"

"Because it's not the right moment. Follow the rules and
nothing will happen... You might not remember, but even you know
better than breaking the rules... He's just protecting you"

"That's enough Ryuichi... Stop now before things gets to a
point of no return"

The look Shuichi was giving him was enough to make him shut up
and to make Yuki stop asking. It was the first time they had seen
him that serious and, why not saying it, dangerous.

"We can't say anything yet... just wait"

They didn't have to wait that much because Shuichi's cell phone
started to ring some minutes later. He went to the bedroom and
took the said phone. He recognized the number on the screen and
sighed; soon they would have to meet them and he felt scared.
Shuichi walked back to the living room where the rest was still
standing up waiting for him.

"Aha... yes. We were waiting for your call anyway"

Shuichi listened to whoever was talking to him quietly; the other
three who were in the room looked at him expectantly.

"No, he never called or sent any kind of message"

He listened again and his face went pale.

"He what?!"

He was obviously afraid, and what he heard next almost made him
fall to the floor, if it wasn't for a pair of strong arms
catching him before he did.

"But why he would want to do something like that?! That's
just stupid!"

Yuki helped him to stand up and lead him to the couch. Shuichi
took seat and Yuki sat next to him; Tatsuha and Ryuichi decided
to remain standing there. Yuki was worried, and he hood ood
reasons; whoever his lover was talking with was making him get
upset and he didn't like it.

"Shuichi-"

But Shuichi made him shut up; what ever he was being told was
important.

"I see... We need to gather as soon as possible. Did he gave
you any kind of clue of where he could have gone?"

He waited and the spoke again.

"Damn... Heh, sorry. Anyway, wait for us at NG... yes, we'll
be there in ten minutes"

The only one who wasn't wondering about whom was the one in the
other side of the phone was Ryuichi.

"You should know better... I have enough stamina to do it"

They heard a small chuckle coming of course from the pink-haired
singer.

"Baka! I wasn't talking about that! And I'll tell hLet'Let's
see if you'll be able to 'perform' after that! Bye now!"

And with that he hung up. Shuichi turned his head to look at
Ryuichi and shook his head; that was all he needed to know the
seriousness of the problem. Shuichi turned his head to Yuki once
again; he kissed him lightly on the nose and stood up.

"It's time to go guys. We need to go to NG, someone is
waiting for us there... Something really bad will happen if we
don't act fast"

Ryuichi looked at him almost afraid.

"It is really that bad?"

Shuichi lowered his head and shook it. He then raised it once
again and his eyes were determined.

"Even worst Ryuichi... Yuki, Tatsuha, we have to go now or
really bad things will happen"

Both brothers looked at each other without understanding.

"There's no time to explain, besides I can't do it either.
Please just follows us and soon you will know"

Shuichi and Ryuichi walked to the balcony and extended their
wings as a wide as they could go; with a soft movement they were
flying outside the said balcony. They extended their hands to
their respective lovers.

"Shuichi I don't know if I-"

"Don't worry Yuki, it's like riding a bike, once you know
you never forget it"

Yuki looked at him with a worried expression.

"I never learned to ride a bike..."

Tatsuha laughed openly, but Shuihid hid his laugh before Yuki
noticed. He really didn't need a mad Yuki right now, especially
because they had more important things to worry about.

"Ok, ok... Then give me your hand and I'll help you... And
don't look at me like that, I'm not going to let you fall!"

Yuki felt guilty; he actually trusted Shuichi, but he still felt
scared of jumping from the balcony. He had never 'flied' before
and gravity was still a physic law. Yuki sighed, then taking a
big breath he extended his wings and jumped... to his surprise he
didn't fell. Shuichi was looking at him with a face that clearly
said 'I told you so'. He noticed that his brother was already
flying and that made him felt even worst; damn his brother whom
didn't have any sense of precaution.

"Yuki don't curse"

Yuki opened his eyes wide and stared at his lover.

"Since when 'you' forbid 'me' from cursing?!"

"Since the moment you remembered... You're an angel, you
can't curse"

Yuki narrowed his eyes.

"Damn..."

He said it in a low voice but when it was him, Shuichi could hear
even the softest whisper.

"Yuki..."

Warning voice, and when it came from someone like Shuichi people
got scared. Yuki felt like wanting to hit something or someone
and since he had nothing to hit and hitting his boyfriend was out
of the question he felt frustrated.

"Well, you'll have to get used to it. I've been cursing
since I was born and you can't make me stop just like that"

He smirked, with a retort like that he was sure he had won, but
Murphy's laws seemed to think it was a good moment to appear.

"Maybe I can't but there's two other who can and they will...
No, sorry they're not two, they're three"

He smiled to his lover and the writer slump his shoulders and
resigned himself to his fate. Ryuichi looked at him oddly and
Shuichi leaned and whispered something in his ear. Ryuichi almost
bursts laughing like a maniac if it wasn't because they had
something more important to do.

"Well, we better go now"

The four angels went flying at top speed, well more like Ryuichi
and Shuichi dragging their lovers a top speed towards NG.

The man was standing at the highest part of Tokyo tower; he was
looking at the moon thinking about the future. Traces of tears
covered his cheeks and the pain in his heart was eating him
inside.

'This is the best. I won't be a burden to you all, and now you'll
be happy forever'

The wind played with his hair and made the new tears fly away
from his eyes.

'I'm sorry... I never wanted to hurt any of you, but I can't
control my heart''

He was waiting at the top of NG; his long blonde hair flaying
around his face and the trace of smoke following the direction of
the wind. He looked at his watch once again and sighing raised
his head.

'Of course, leave it to Shuichi to be always late. He'll have to
answer to my magnum'

'Wouldn't be the first time, besides you never shoot'

He jumped at the voice in his mind and turned his head just to
see four men standing behind him. he shook his head and walked
towards them.

"One of these days I'll shoot and you'll regret it for a
long, loooooong time Shuichi"

The pink-haired man just grinned and made the V sign; Ryuichi had
the same grin and the other two men couldn't say anything since
their surprise was too much.

"Y-you?!"

Tatsuha was the first one to react, of all possible persons he
knew, K was the last he could have thought of being an angel. And
to make it worst his boss.

"Of course me! I have the looks and the guns"

K grinned, he just loved his job, both of them. Yuki had already
recovered from the chock and was now looking at him suspiciously.
Then he recognized the man and his eyes opened wide, but before
he could say anything Shuichi poked him on the ribs and shook his
head.

'Don't Yuki, we still have to meet another person'

Yuki stayed in silence; he had noticed then that Tatsuha still
couldn't recognize the man standing in front of them. K turned
serious again and looked at Shuichi and Ryuichi. He knew they
were talking telepathically, he didn't like it and so he made
them know it.

"I would prefer if the three of you wouldn't keep more
secrets from my brother and myself"

K looked at him with defiant eyes.

"Don't ask when you alreknowknow we can't tell you yet"

Yuki bit his tongue and just because of the look Shuichi was
giving him, and for some reason K felt like thanking the singer.
They all knew Yuki's temperament, and the fact that he could go
berserk if provoked. With all except Shuichi of course. Shuichi
took Yuki's hand in his and turned to look at K.

"I think we better get going. We're wasting too much time"

"Do you have any idea of where he could have gone?"

"He's at the Tokyo tower"

"How can you be so sure?"

K looked at Ryuichi sadly.

"Because I feel it here"

He put his hand over his chest.

"My heart is telling me"

"I see"

It wasn't that he doubted K, but Ryuichi didn't know which was
the state of K's heart after what had happened so many years ago.

"Now, come on... lets go"

And without saying anything else K flapped his white wings and
floated in the air; soon the other four followed him and they
went away flying to wards the Tokyo tower as fast as they could
go. By now both, Yuki and Tatsuha could control their wings and
the speed of fly easily.

He couldn't face them, not now... not ever. He felt guilty and
depressed. The feathers of his wings moving together with the
wind, playing with it foe lae last time.

'I caused their suffering before, if I stay I'll cause it again.
I can't do that again... I must disappear'

He looked down, it was so high. There was no way he could survive
a fall like that, not even being who he was.

'I deserve this punishment, I deserve to die like this. God
forgive me for what I'm about to do, but don't be gentle and
please give me the punishment I deserve'

He folded his wings and made them disappear, closing his eyes he
said a last good bye.

"Good bye my friends... Good bye my love, I wish you all the
happiness in the world and more"

With that he closed his eyes and let himself fall to the
emptiness.

'Good bye'

They were near their destination. K felt his heart tug, he knew
something was terribly wrong and his suspicions were confirmed
when he heard Shuichi scream.

"NOOOO"

The four angels saw the pink haired Shinigami flaying faster than
he had ever flied before; he was diving lightly in diagonal
towards a falling object, which happened to be none r thr than
the man they were looking for. K followed behind almost as fast
as Shuichi himself; he was scared, angry and worried to no end,
and so he expressed it.

"YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!"

If they had been paying attention they would have heard the small
thunder that sounded after K's sudden lack of angelic tact. He
usually was the one who scolded the others for cursing, but when
his life was falling down from the highest part of Tokyo tower,
he really didn't care a damn what he said.

He didn't heard the screams, neither feel the arms that caught
him in mid fall. His mind was in another place, in another time,
when their lives were easier and happier. When he hadn't screwed
it all and provoked the death of so many people, including
himself and his friends. Shuichi had him in his arms; he was
calling him but there was no answer.

"Tohma! Tohma come on answer me!!"

But the blonde didn't answer; he was cloto wto what was happening
outside his mind. K tried to take Tohma out of Shuichi's arms,
but the singer looked at him shaking his head; he flied upwards
and landed on the top platform of the tower. The other four
followed him, but they stayed silent; Ryuichi tightened his hug
in Tatsuha and Yuki only could stay there looking. Shuichi had
kneeled on the floor with the unresponsive Tohma in his embrace,
while K was kneeling at his side holding the small blonde's hands
in his. He raised his eyes to look at the singer.

"What happened?!"

Shuichi once again shook his head.

"I don't know..."

For once since he knew the man, Yuki was thankful of the way
Tohma acted with him; there was no way the man wouldn't react if
he called him. Tohma could have been dying and he would always
answer him, so he called his name.

"Tohma wake up"

But for first time since he knew the man, Tohma didn't answer.
Yuki frowned and went towards the three men, he kneeled and
grabbed Tohma by his chin and turned his head. He frowned even
more.

"He's blocked the outside world"

K turned his head to him.

"What do you mean?"

Yuki sighed and tried to explain something that he didn't
understand that well.

"His mind is somewhere else; probably in a place and a time
when he felt secure"

"I think I know where he is..."

They looked at Ryuioddloddly, but let him explain.

"He's in a time when he was happy, when nothing had happened
yet..."

Shuichi closed his eyes, now he knew where Tohma was, but he had
to bring him back. They needed the man with them.

"Oh Tohma... you never could forgive yourself... I'm sorry"

K grabbed his shoulder and shook his head.

"Don't say sorry, it wasn't your fault"

"I know but still..."

Yuki could recognize all of them except for Tohma; he couldn't
place who he had been in his past life and he didn't like it.


"K, Ryuichi... I think you have
a lot of explanation to do... And don't tell me it's not the time"

Shuichi felt scared, everything had a time and a place to happen.
If they changed that the results could be disastrous. It had
happened once aleady.

"Yuki please... y-you don't know what you're asking for"

He was terrified, and Yuki noticed. What he didn't understand is
why, why they couldn't tell him and why Shuichi was so damn
scared of telling him.

"At least tell me why you can't tell me"

Shuichi closed his eyes and embraced Tohma even more. The man was
sleeping, or at least that was it seemed.

"Because it can kill us... all of us"

When Yuki saw the tears in his lover's face he desisted, he just
embraced him and stayed silent. K finally could take Tohma from
Shuichi's arms, and as Yuki was doing with him, he embraced the
small blonde. It was then when he heard him, it was barely a
whisper but it was there, and K's eyes opened wide.

"Aoshi-sama"

K felt his heart break; he understood what was happening and he
knew that even when Tohma felt how he did for Yuki, the blonde
man felt something for him too. But no matter how much he knew
that truth he still felt like dying. He loved the man resting in
his arms and hearing him whisper the name of another hurt him
really bad.

"Tohma..."

The longhaired manager of Bad Luck leaned down and softly kissed
Tohma; his tears landed over the soft cheeks of the one he loved
and even if it appeared like an over used scene of a Disney
movie, Tohma actually woke up. He opened his eyes slowly trying
to settle his surroundings.

"Uh... where?"

The first one Tohma saw was of course K, and his eyes had a look
of guilt on them. He turned his head and looked at the ones
around him; he knew them, but called them by other names, past
names. By now Yuki had remembered the man from his other life,
and now he understood why he was so obsessed with him.

"'Hiko'..."

K didn't say a thing, he just tightened his embrace on the man.
Tohma looked away, just to find the eyes of Shuichi and by the
look on them he knew how the singer was feeling inside, and he
didn't like it.

"Don't feel like that Kenshin... it was never your fault. It
was mine, I never knew how to deal with my feelings"

"But Tohma..."

"No buts, I was just a girl back then. I didn't knew how to
handle my awakening..."

They fell silent; Tohma stood up and looked at Yuki and behind
him, at Tatsuha and Ryuichi. Now that they all were together
their memories came back; they all remembered what had happened
and why they had died so many years ago. Yuki looked at him and
for first time since they had known each other in this life he
smiled.

"I'm so sorry Aoshi-sama..."

"That doesn't matter anymore 'Misao'..."

But for Tohma it did matter; he had always protected Yuki because
of whom he had been, because he had never forgotten his love for
the man once known as Aoshi Shinomori.

"It does matter... I killed us and with that almost
destroyed the earth..."

"That is in the past, we had the chance to live again Misao...
No, Tohma"

"Yuki is right Tohma... I'm no longer Hiko Seijuro XIII, now
I'm K-"

"Crawd K. Winchester..."

He smiled, at least he was making jokes. Would that be good or
not he still didn't know, but it was something.

"And so I'm no longer Misao Makimachi, leader of the
Oniwabanshu? I feel as if I had lost part of my life... That's
not right"

Ryuichi looked at him and smiled.

"No Tohma, you hadn't lost part of your life... your
memories will always be there, but you lived a different life and
now you have different memories and you must lead your life by
that memories. I will never forget what I lived as Hajime Saito,
but I'm now Ryuichi Sakuma, lead singer of Nittle Grasper and I
live my life according to that. I haven't lost my past, it's
there and I will treasure its teachings and use them for the best
in this life. You should do the same"

Tohma felt tears in his eyes; he hadn't really cried since ng
ng
time ago and now it felt as if his eyes were burning.

"But my memories are full of pain... Now my heart is
confused, I don't know what I feel"

"As you said, you were just a girl back then and your heart
misunderstood a deep friendship and admiration for a love that
wasn't there. Before our awakening back then I thought I had
fallen in love with Kaoru-d and and then I understood I loved her
in a very different way. And now, when we all came back to earth
once again, it happened again... just that this time I could
understand sooner"

Tohma looked at him without understanding, even when he should
have known what he was talking about. The fact that he was trying
to sort out his own feelings had him to busy to understand.

"Remember Tohma, that those whom are close to us are
prospects of future angels..."

They all, except for a too disturbed Tohma, knew of whom he was
talking about.

"Kaoru always felt that need to be there for me, to protect
me. She's still doing it; she always had been next to me... Back
in my school days Hiro and I tried to have some kind of
relationship... It just didn't work. My own feelings for that
special one were so strong that my own heart told me it was wrong..."

Shuichi lowered his head, he had never told that to anyone. Not
even Yuki.

"Hiro..."

"At least now I understand why he always was threate me. me...
He is still the same, Kaoru could be frightening when she wanted
to and so is Hiro... I know he's a good man Shuichi, I've always
respected him"

"Thank you Yuki... I just"

Yuki shook his head and put a finger over Shuichi's lips, they
could always talk about it later.

"Tohma... I think it would be better if we fly back to my
flat. We still need to talk"

Tohma nodded; Yuki was right they had to sort what happened in
the past and confront the present which was formed by that past.
K was hopeful, maybe he still had a chance to recover his lover.
They had been together too many lives, their love had to be
strong enough to sort this obstacle.

Taking his lover's hand he turned towards the rest of the angels.

"Lets go now"
