Haru looked at Kyo with teary eyes and pulled up and uncomfortable hospital seat. After that he went back to clutching at Kyo’s hand praying and trying to force his own will to live into Kyo so that he would make it. As he laid there in the cold sterile room Haru whispered to him. “Why would you leave me alone?” He asked. “How could you do something like this when I love you so much?” The question was soft and feather light in the room.

Haru caressed Kyo’s hand and lapsed back into silence. Shigure and Hatori walked back into the room as Haru whispered his last question to the sleeping Kyo. Hatori felt his heart break at the simple yet heavy question. Kyo didn’t believe Haru. No matter what he said. His normal answer was “Why would you say something stupid like that?” and then walk away.

But in all truth he never had a reason to believe him. He was thrown away and made to feel smaller then dirty when he was so young it scared him for life. And it hurt to know he would more then likely never believe Haru no matter what he said and did. He stood there racking his brain for someway to alter Haru’s memories. He was stopped though when Haru questioned lightly. “Can I stay with him?”

Every part in his brain was screaming at him to say no and to drag him out of the room. But his heart was yelling louder at him to let Haru be and to watch over Kyo. Nodding he said “Yes.” Quietly.

Haru’s shoulders sagged slightly in relief before he looked over one at Hatori. “Thank you.” He turned back slowly to watch over Kyo again.
Lifting his left hand he rested it beside Kyo’s head and ran his fingers gently over his cheek. Quietly he started talking. “Did you know Kyo’s favorite book were classic novels. His favorite of them being DR. Jekyll and Mister Hyde. Every once in a while he’d sneak off with one of yours Shigure.” He said almost silently.

Shigure blinked and then smiled a little. “So that’s were they went.”

Haru nodded. “he liked the one you started in the beginning of last spring. I caught him reading it in your office.” Haru looked over at Shigure for a moment before looking back at Kyo. Still stroking his cheek. “Kyo really does like you. He thinks your really talented.”

“I never knew.” Shigure said looking rather surprised.

“There were small times that Kyo would talk to me. This was one of them. He liked how you knew what to say at any given moment. It made him a little jealous. He also liked the feeling that you have around you.” He said and gazed softly at Kyo with tears in his eyes.

“The feel I have?” He asked stepping forward wanting to offer some comfort to a heart broken Haru.

“Yes.” He said nodding. “He said it was gentle to him and relaxing. I suppose you never noticed how he would calm down if it was just you in a room?”
“No.” He answered honestly but started to look back.

He could see it so clearly now. Kyo just laying on the porch listening to him type. Or just hold a conversation with him once he even went so far as to ask what the new book was about.

“Why didn’t I notice? He asked himself.

“Because you never thought about it before.” Haru answered his quiet thoughts.

Hatori stood away from them and mentally cursed. So many things about Kyo were hidden and it seemed that only Haru had looked hard enough in the little orange cat to see them.

“He always felt badly for you Hatori-san.” He said keeping his gaze on Kyo. He ignored the tears that fell down his face.

“Why?” he asked because a part of him wanted to know. Though part of him didn’t.

“Because you had something special with Kana. Something worth fighting for and in one small moment you lost it all. In one day everything shattered and you couldn’t do anything about. You even had to give up those memories that meant so much to you.” He whispered. “To quote him. “I can’t blame Hatori-san for being like he is. Who wouldn’t have a broken heart after something like that.”

Hatori turned his face away to hide the tears that were brought to his eyes. Shigure stood quietly torn between comforting his friend or his dragon.

“You would have never known it but he studied everyone closely.” He looked at Shigure and gave a slight smile before looking back at Kyo. “He even studied Yuki. Though he could never understand him.

“Why couldn’t he understand him?” Shigure questioned Haru.

“Because Yuki didn’t want to be part of the family. When all Kyo wanted was to be part of it.” he shrugged. “Maybe when he waked up he’ll be better.”

Hatori held his breath and looked at the ground.

“Haru.” Shigure said softly. “There’s something I have to tell you.”

Haru looked up at him and waited. When Shigure looked down he was struck into silence. Haru’s big grey eyes were looking up into his wide and full of pain with tears flooding them and running down his young innocent eyes. He’d seen Haru looked like that only one other time in his life and that’s when had yelled at Yuki that he wasn’t stupid. Quietly he looked away and prayed he could get the words out of his mouth. “The chance.” He paused. “Chance that he will wake or even make it though the night is about 5%.” he looked back at Haru to see his eyes had widened a little. “He will never be Kyo that we knew ever again.” He finished and reached out wiping away the tears. “Do you understand Haru.”

Haru pulled his face away and looked down at Kyo for a moment before he said. “5% is better then zero isn’t it?” He asked.

“Will you still love him the same?” Shigure asked. “After all of this. If he wakes and isn’t the same will you still love him?”

Haru lapsed into silence again raising his hand to Kyo’s face before nodding. “Yes.”

“What if he doesn’t love you back?” Shigure asked seriously.

“Then everything would be normal now wouldn’t it.” Haru said looking at Shigure for a moment.

Shigure looked down at him and smiled slightly nodding. “You have a point there.”

Haru nodded and looked at Kyo’s still face.

“I’m sorry Haru.” he said earnestly suddenly

Haru shook his head. “You didn’t do it.” He answered with all honesty.

“But we should have seen it.” He answered lamely.

Haru shook his head again calmly saying. “You wouldn’t have. No one’s suppose to know.” He said.

Shigure nodded and set a hand on his shoulder. Haru hummed softly. It was a song he heard often coming from Kyo’s room when he spent a long time in there. “What is that called?” he asked of Haru.

“Room of angel.” he said simply. “Hatori-san?” He asked.

“Yes?”

“What about female nurses?” Haru asked.

“No one is allowed in the room but me and us.” Hatori said. “They know me well enough to know I won’t play around if I find one of them in here.” He answered.

Shigure looked at him for a moment before whispering. “I’m sorry.”

“No one could have stopped him.” Haru answered blandly.

“But we could have tried. Something anything.” Shigure said sadly.

“He wouldn’t have listened.” Haru said back to him. “You know that as well as I do.”

Shigure pulled his hand from Haru’s shoulder and looked down at the ground before looking to Hatori. He nodded his head and watched Shigure walk over to him.

“I’m going to take Shigure home now.” He said in a soft voice. “I’ll be back.”

Haru nodded never taking his eyes from Kyo’s face. they walked of the room and in a heavy silence they drove home. Shigure looked at Hatori who looked away from him and stared hard at the road. Shigure nodded and looked down at his lap as they pulled into the driveway and got out. Walking in he stood quietly in the doorway listening to Tohru and Yuki come into the hall.

“Shigure?” Yuki questioned.

Shigure looked up before looking down again. “Do you want the watered down version of it?” He questioned not looking up.

“The truth.” Yuki said. “Nothing more or less then that.”

“Kyo will never be himself again.” He answered. “I all reality he.” Shigure choked on the words as the brought a flood of tears to his eyes. “He will be brain damaged, blind, and never be able to walk ever again.” He paused to catch his voice again. “The chances he’ll make it through the night is about 5%” He looked up and looked at Yuki. “Kyo will never exists again. I hope that makes you happy Yuki considering it’s what you’ve always wanted.”

Stunned Yuki staggered back and landed on his butt. Tohru couldn’t hold back her tears and was crying hard into her hands.

“Haru’s with him.” Hatori said trying to offer the something.

“Kyo will never be Kyo again?” Yuki asked looking up at Shigure.

“No.” He said and looked down again to cover the tears.

“No more fights?” Yuki asked. “No more taunting him with Leeks?” Yuki continued to look stunned. Kyo would never be the same again. He would never fight with him, challenge him, race him, hate his with such passion. As this knowledge flooded his brain tears rolled down his face.

Shigure looked at him silently before bending down and wrapping him up in a tight hug. Yuki held on tightly to him and rested his head on his shoulder. “I didn’t want it that way.” He said brokenly. “I never wanted him to be like this. The last thing I said to him was Baka neko.” He whispered into Shigure’s shoulder. “This is worse then death.”

Shigure nodded. “For Kyo yes. This will be worse then death. If this happens to him. Foreverly broken and in a body that he can’t escape more so then he is now.” he answered softly. “Think about how Haru feels. He watched Kyo jump and tried to grab his hand but he slipped on the mud.”

Yuki sucked in a sharp breath. “Oh god.” He whispered. Pulling back he looked up at Shigure. “Why would Kyo do something like this?”

Shigure was quiet for a moment before he stood up and looked down at Yuki. “What reason did he have to live?” He questioned him quietly. “What was so important here that he couldn’t leave it behind?”

Yuki looked at him in silence before Shigure and Hatori parted and Shigure went quietly upstairs and Hatori when back to the hospital. All the while Tohru stood there Wide eyed and crying staring into nothing, not making a sound.
