Episode 18 - part 1
Chapter Five: Episode 18
“Nephrite, how are things going with the Sailor Senshi?”
“I believe that you entrusted that matter to me,” Nephrite replied, annoyed that she was even asking. He preferred to do things without being checked on, he wasn\'t a child. A familiar chuckle was heard behind him, he was growing tried of that sound.
“It seems that you are having some trouble with that task,” Zoisite commented. “I would be more than happy to help you out. The operations are bound to go better with two of us rather than one.” He turned his head towards his Queen his words practically dripping in sweetness, “don\'t you think so, Queen Beryl-sama?”
Her eyes brightened, “That is a good idea. Nephrite, I want you to work with Zoisite and...”
“I will not,” Nephrite interrupted. He was aware of his rudeness, but he would not stand for what she was asking.
“Oh my! You intend to defy Queen Beryl-sama?” Zoisite said, faining shock.
“I am not doing this for Beryl-sama, I am doing it for myself,” Nephrite replied, looking back at Zoisite. He turned back to his queen and saw that she was not pleased. “Excuse me,” he said curtly as he disappeared. He did not want to have to deal with an angry queen at that particular moment.
“Nephrite...” Beryl said as he vanished, her hands shaking in anger.
Zoisite held a hand up to his mouth, pretending to be in shock, when what he was really doing was hiding a smile. Everything went just as planned, he thought, Queen Beryl-sama has lost confidence in Nephrite.
Zoisite returned to Kunzite\'s castle. It was his castle as well, of course, but they had decided to keep their relationship a secret. “Queen Beryl-sama expects loyalty to her and her alone. She would not approve of... us.”
Kunzite\'s words echoed in Zoisite\'s mind. He held a gold picture frame, which contained the only thing in the Dark Kingdom that showed Kunzite and Zoisite\'s true relationship. “Kunzite, where did you go?” he asked out loud, lightly touching the picture.
It had been a full day now since Queen Beryl had summoned him away from Zoisite. He had been tempted to ask Beryl where Kunzite had gone, but couldn\'t think of a professional reason for the inquiry. It would only draw suspicion.
It was rare that Zoisite would be without his partner for any lengthy period of time. Missions pulled them apart, of course, but they were usually able to check back in with each other. Zoisite missed Kunzite deeply, but he was able to hide this should the need arise. Kunzite would be back, sooner or later.
He had started leaving the castle, but only for short periods of time. Enough time to taunt Nephrite, hope that Queen Beryl would mention Kunzite\'s absence (or even better, his return), and get back to the castle. He was not going to be absent when Kunzite returned, but he was also not going to disappoint Kunzite by not getting anything done.
He put the picture frame back on it\'s shelf and teleported out of the room, a few stray sakura petals falling to the floor.
Nephrite had already left when Zoisite arrived at his home. He tracked him to a high-class house, Nephrite was inside talking to the residents. Zoisite waited outside the home and listened to the conversation.
“I thought that Pierre Dumoe was the only one who could make such classic dolls, but this display has changed my mind,” Nephrite commented.
“My my, you are such a flatterer!” a woman replied.
“I see that your daughter is also very talented.”
“Her name is Mika.”
“The doll you recently entered in the contest was wonderful. I would love to see that doll.”
“Oh that doll is on loan to someone else at the moment. Mika, why don\'t you show him the doll you are currently working on?”
“Okay,”
These was a pause in the conversation, likely the young girl going to get her doll. Zoisite was getting annoyed by this. Take the kid\'s energy already! He thought. What was the point of this charade?
“Oh, this is wonderful work!” Nephrite exclaimed. “Her sad expression is just so... “
There was another pause and Zoisite felt a form of Dark Energy in the house. It\'s about time you did something, Nephrite. Zoisite was about to leave when he heard something that caught his attention.
“We are holding a private exhibition starting this Saturday. My daughter\'s work will be there as well. Please come to the exhibit.”
Nephrite smiled. “I will be looking forward to it.”
Zoisite was waiting on Nephrite\'s balcony when his car pulled in. Nephrite stepped out of the car and shot an annoyed expression up at his fellow Shitennou. He jumped up onto the balcony, changing back into his uniform before he landed. “Why are you here?”
“I need an excuse to pay a visit to a friend?” Zoisite asked innocently. He was sitting on the only chair on the balcony and had his feet propped up on the table. Nephrite folded his arms and waited patiently for Zoisite\'s real explanation.
Zoisite gracefully swung his feet off the table and stood up. He walked along the balcony passing Nephrite, but saying nothing. He stopped and leaned against the railing, pretending to be interested in his nails for a moment. “Saturday... that is quite a few days away. I wonder what Queen Beryl-sama would think of this waste of time?”
“Don\'t you have something else you should be doing? Searching for the Ginzuishou perhaps?”
Zoisite gave Nephrite a cocky smile. “I am searching for the Ginzuishou. I believe there is valuable information available on Earth, I just happened to be in the neighbourhood and thought I would stop by.”
Nephrite\'s eyes narrowed. “And when exactly were you going to report to me that you were going to be working on Earth?”
“I don\'t report to you.”
“Zoisite exactly which one of us is higher ranked here?” Nephrite asked smugly, taking a step towards the arrogant youth. Zoisite didn\'t respond, but his face showed signs that he was aware that this game had taken a more serious turn. Nephrite continued his approach. “And which one of us is currently in charge of missions on Earth?” he asked as he stopped in front of Zoisite and stared down at him.
Zoisite, deciding that he didn\'t need to take this, turned, and started to walk away from Nephrite, a mistake. Nephrite grabbed his wrist and threw him into the wall of the house, causing some damage to both the house and Zoisite. He was quickly behind Zoisite and wrenched his arm behind his back, causing Zoisite to cry out in pain.
“Let this be a warning to you,” Nephrite threatened, tightening his hold on Zoisite\'s wrist before releasing him. Zoisite turned himself around to face Nephrite. He held his sore arm with his good hand and a small trickle of blood came from a wound on his forehead and started to travel down his face. Pure hatred was written in his expression.
“You will regret this...” he said as he teleported away.
