Chapter 4

TD: back with a new chapter!

Naru had arrived in her room to find that Mei wasn’t there. She continued her search throughout the apartments checking all the possible areas she could find Mei. Eventually the only place left that she could be was the roof. Naru climbed the stairs to the rooftop and as she expected, Mei was there staring of into the distance. As Naru approached she could tell that Mei was crying.

“Mei? Is something wrong?”

Mei ignored her. She had decided that she needed to stay away from Naru after what she had witnesses earlier. She didn’t want to be anywhere near Naru right now. She walked right past her and went back inside. Naru went after her, wanting to know what the problem was.
Naru followed Mei asking her why she was crying and each times she was ignored. Mei began to walk faster, trying to get away from Naru. She walked until she found an empty room and went inside, shutting the door behind her. When Naru opened the door, she found the room to be empty. Mei had used one of the many secret passageways that ran throughout the inn.
Naru would have followed, but the passageways were a twisting maze, and odds were that she wouldn’t catch up to Mei. Her heart felt as though it were three times heavier than it should be. She could tell there was something wrong with Mei and part of her knew it was her fault.

-Later that week-

It had been three days since Mei began to ignore Naru, and three days since the two had even seen each other. Each day Mei would avoid Naru like the plague and she had not been sleeping in Naru’s room nor eating dinner with the others.
Naru was growing more concerned about Mei as time went on. Each day Naru tried to find Mei so that she could talk with her about what was wrong, but was unsuccessful so far. She knew Mei hadn’t left the apartments because the other girls had told Naru that they had seen her around.
It was getting late and Naru still hadn’t found Mei. She sighed as she decided to give up and hoped she would just be lucky enough to see her before she went to bed. She felt that a bath would help her to relax. As she entered the hot springs she bumped right into Mei who was leaving. Acting on instinct, Naru grabbed Mei by her good arm so she couldn’t run off again.

“Mei what the hell? Why have you been avoiding me?”
Mei gave no answer. She looked away, clearly not wanting to talk. Naru let out a frustrated sigh and decided to let it go. If Mei didn’t want to talk about it then she wasn’t going to force her to. Instead she focused on the reason she had been trying to find Mei. To tell her what she had wanted to tell her three days ago. That she loved her.

“Fine! Don’t answer me. I need to tell you something important anyway. So at least listen to me for a minute.”

Mei knew what was coming. She remembered all to well what Naru had said in her conversation with Keitaro. And she really didn’t want to hear it again. She struggled to escape from Naru’s grip, but Naru would not let her go. Knowing she could not out strength her, Mei gave up. Satisfied that Mei was done trying to resist, Naru spoke.

“If you’re finished, there is something I need to tell you.”

“I already know!”

Naru was a little shocked at that comment. But this would make things easier for her. Right?

“You already know?”

Mei started to cry, tears flowing freely from her eyes. She looked so sad, and really upset. But why was she upset? Naru had a sinking feeling she knew why.

“How much did you hear?”

“I heard enough. You said that me loving you is wrong and that you don’t want to see me as your little sister anymore!”

Mei fell to her knees, she was crying almost uncontrollably now. Naru got down on her knees and embraced her crying sibling. She cradled Mei in her arms and rocked her gently back and forth until Mei had calmed down. Then Naru pulled Mei into a short but loving kiss. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but it was enough to get Mei’s heart racing. Naru looked into Mei’s eyes lovingly.

“Dummy, you obviously didn’t hear what I said after that. I can’t see you as my sister anymore because I love as something more than my sister.”

“Something more?”

Naru nodded, “That’s right.”

“But you said that this kind of relationship is wrong”

“I know. And it is. But I don’t care.”
Mei gave her sister a big hug, nuzzling her chest.

“Nee-san, you made me so happy!”

Naru returned the hug happily. The two separated and got up off the ground. Naru nudged me in the direction of the door.

“I’m going to take a quick bath and then go to bed. I expect you to be there. And …”

Naru leaned over so that she was whispering into Mei’s ear.

“…I expect you to be dressed exactly as you are now.”

Mei’s face nearly invented a new shade of red upon hearing those words. She did as her sister requested and hurried inside and up to Naru’s room, receiving an odd look from Motoko who was on her way to the bath at the time. She removed her clothes, wrapped her body with a towel and entered the hot springs.
