Chapter 4
The next morning Kenneth woke
up and visited the nursery to check on Henry. "Well, good
morning my little chap. Sleep well?" He asked as he picked
Henry up. The infant cooed and waved his arms.
"Good morning Mr.
Hellsing. I've just finished changing him sir." Said the
nursemaid.
"Good. You can leave now
Anna. I'll take over from here." Kenneth replied.
"As you wish Mr.
Hellsing." Anna said and took her leave.
"Hehe. Only months old
and you're already a charming little bloke. You'll be quite the
heart breaker when you're all grown up. Hungry?"
Henry cooed and gurggled
signifying he was ready for breakfast. Kenneth carefully placed
him against his shoulder. "Well, let's get you some
breakfast shall we? I'm sure mum has some ready for you." He
said. Just as he spoke Integra entered the nursery. She looked
rather tired and in need of rest.
"I suppose he's ready to
be fed." She said wearily.
"Yes. You didn't sleep
very well last night." Kenneth commented.
"Last night was very
rough. I lost my temper with Alucard. The target he was supposed
to eliminate got the better of him, and in the process several
innocent people were killed by this monster terrorizing the city.
I suppose I was perhaps a bit harsh with him, but he let his
pride get the better of him." Integra replied dryly.
"Why don't you let me
feed Henry this morning? It will give you a little time to shake
off the cobwebs, and clear your head." Kenneth suggested.
"I suppose that would be
a good idea. I do need time to get myself together before getting
back to this assignment. " Integra said.
"I'll take care of Henry.
You just relax for a little while." Kenneth replied.
"There is never any time
for me to relax in this organization." Integra said with a
weary sigh and left the nursery.
"Your poor mother never
takes it easy. I think later on we're going to have to do
something about that won't we?"

Some ways away from the
Hellsing stronghold....
"So, there is another
vampire who claims this domain as his own." A man said to a
young man standing before him.
"Yes. My mistress says he
was very tall. He wears a long red coat and a dark gray suit with
knee length brown boots. He also wore a wide brimmed hat and
orange colored sun glasses. What she remembered most was he
carries unusually large guns, two of them. Both would have been
far too much for a human to handle. She said he was also very
powerful. He can manipulate the shadows and possibly has even
greater power than even she. There was one thing she noticed
about him."
"And what would that
be?" The older man asked the younger.
"The vampire she
encountered claimed this to be his territory, yet he is not
English. She did not smell British blood as his origion. He has
no doubt feasted upon locals here, but his blood is not
of this country." The young man answered.
"Interesting. I wonder
why with all his power he did not destroy her."
"She used her slaves to
create a distraction. He destroyed those, but she felt something
in him. He did not go immediately for her because at the same
time he heard humans being endangered. Yet he did not go for them
either. He felt cause for restraint for some reason. Some concern
that more humans might be killed, and that he may be
exposed."
"Very interesting indeed.
I will send her to learn exactly who this vampire is and what his
intentions are in this territory and concerning the humans who
inhabit it. Perhaps he is an enemy, or perhaps he is competition.
Either way, I want to know exactly what it is we are dealing
with. When the sun sets, go and fetch her to me."
"As you wish
master."

Back at the Hellsing mansion
Zoey was preparing for her daily duties. She heard a knock at her
door. "Miss Winifield, it's Walter. I've an assignment for
you from Sir Integra." Walter said.
Zoey hurriedly walked toward
the door and opened it. "What it is Walter?" She asked.
"Sir Integra wants you to
do some research into the familie's history concerning
werewolves. Seeing as she has so much on her plate as it were,
and a new baby to contend with, she wants you to go through the
family archives and see if you can find anything that might aid
us in the present mission. Are you up to the task?"
"Of course. Where are the
archives located?" Zoey asked.
"Well, the more
accessible archives are in the main library next to the study.
There is a more private family archives which is what you will be
going through. Normally Hellsing staff would not be allowed in
this private library because of the rarity of many of the items,
but you've been with Hellsing for a time now and you're a
trustworthy young lady so Integra is allowing you to view the
private archives for the sake of this mission. Several archives
have not been viewed by her as she has had little time and no
real need was appearent. There is need now. You have much more
time to do this needed research than she does. When you have
found anything that may be pertinent to this mission, contact me
immediately, and I will inform Sir Integra." Walter
explained.
"I'll get on it
immediately Walter." Zoey replied.
"Very good. I'll take you
to the private archives. Take as much time as needed, but try not
to take too long. There is no telling when this monster may
strike again."
"Yes sir."
Walter led Zoey through the
long winding halls of the mansion until they came to the main
study. Walter entered the library and ushered Zoey in behind him.
Once they were in the room Walter walked over to a shelf of
books. He pulled on one particular book and the shelf began to
move. The shelf revealed a corridor leading to the private
Hellsing family archives. Walter motioned for Zoey to follow him.
She stepped in as the shelf began to close. The moment it shut a
light came on illuminating a short hallway.
"Here is the private
collection of the Hellsing family history. Do as thourough an
investigation as you can, but please handle these documents with
care. Many are a century old, some perhaps even older. They tend
to be quite fragile." Walter instructed.
"I'll be very careful
with them Walter. You can count on me." Zoey said.
"Then I'll leave you to
your research. There is a small speaker attached to the table
here. Use this code when you are finished to summon me. I'll be
back for you when you're done."
"All right Walter."
#################################################
Two hours had passed as Zoey
continued looking through the archives. While she discovered many
interesting historical facts and cases about the Hellsing family,
she hadn't found anything out of the ordinary...at least where
the Hellsing Organization was concerned. A stack of old
manuscripts and files piled up where she'd been looking through
them. The oldest of the files she handled with the greatest of
care as they were indeed very fragile. She got up from the table
having become stiff from sitting still for so long.
She stretched her arms upward
trying to loosen up her muscles. The intercom buzzed just as she
was done stretching and yawning. She pushed the button down to
answer the summons.
"Have you found anything
yet Zoey?" Asked Integra's voice over the speaker.
"Not yet sir. I've still
quite a few manuscripts to go through so I may yet find
something." Zoey answered.
"Very well. I'll have
Walter bring you some food and something to drink." Integra
replied.
"Thank you Sir
Integra."
#################################################
Pickman stood at the entrance
to the mansion. He saluted as Commander Ferguson approached.
"At ease Captain. The new recruits should be here within the
hour. You'll be responcible for getting them settled in and then
briefing them on their duties in the Hellsing Organization. I
hear they're a good batch of soldiers. You'll begin their
training tomorrow morning."
"Yes sir Commander."
Pickman answered.
#################################################
The armored vehicle carrying
the new recruits sped on its way toward the Hellsing compound. A
man stood in the distance but out of sight observing the
vehicle's direction.
"She said the vampire
guarded the ground they met upon jealously. She could sense a
building near where they squared off. I want you to watch the
area and report back to me anything you learn. Do not let
yourself get caught."
The man watched as the armored
van continued on its way. He followed on foot keeping enough
distance to make sure he wasn't seen. He followed until he came
upon the heavily guarded gates of the Hellsing mansion. Hiding
amongst the trees and brush he watched the men exit the vehicle
as it came to a stop. Ferguson waited to check the identification
of each man as he exited the van.
"All right men. You are
the newest recruits to her majesty's honerable and sacred
Hellsing Organization. The duties you will be expected to perform
must be done with precision. There will be no room for error.
File back into the van. You're new captain and trainer will be
waiting for you in the training bunker. Dismissed."
As the men saluted and packed
back into the van, the man who'd been spying on them heard
something that caught his interest. "Hellsing? I must tell
him." The man said and retreated from the area before his
presence was detected.

After another hour and a half
Zoey had finally come upon something she felt Sir Integra would
need to see. She discovered a fragile document preserved in a
special plastisized coating to keep it from deterierating. She
looked over the document closely, but her eyes widened when she
saw some of the signitures at the end of the page.
"Walter, please inform
Sir Integra I've found something she will want to see." She
said with a hint of alarm in her voice.
Within five minutes Integra
and Walter entered the secret passage way to the private
archives.
"What have you found
Zoey?" Integra questioned.
"I don't know if it is
pertinent to this particular investigation, but it is a werewolf
case that is vastly different from the other missions concerning
this type of creature." Zoey answered.
Integra carefully took the
document and adjusted her glasses so she could read it clearly.
Holding it under a specially designed light she began to read the
document.
"I do record upon this
date, November the seventeenth in the year of our lord sixteen
hundred and seven that a most vile and wicked soul, Douglas of
Salsbury stood trial for most heinous and unspeakable crimes.
Before a jury and honorable judge, Douglas of Salsbury was found
guilty of the crimes of murder, acts of perversion, and most
disturbing of all, consuming the flesh of both beasts and humans.
He has also confessed to assualting and violating many innocents
as well as torturing them before death. This was a most foul
individual, as I cannot truly use the term human in good
concious.
After conviction, the guilty
was taken to a secret place and beheaded for his crimes. After
which the body of the condemned was burned completely and the
ashes placed in a container blessed by the village reverend. To
keep the location secret, only the judge and executioner along
with the condemned man knew the destination. Myself, and my
comrades were blindfolded before being taken to the location.
While we are just and righteous men, no one could take any
chances.
When we arrived the urn
containing the ashes was buried deep within the Earth. We asked
the Lord's forgiveness for putting such abomnible remains in the
ground of his creation. And though we plead for God to have mercy
upon the soul of Douglas, I doubt that any will be given. We
demanded from the condemned the location of the accursed device
which he used to commit his perverse and unholy acts. But that
secret he took with him to the lake of fire. A search party was
devised after Douglas's capture, but the thing was never found.
Perhaps it is the devil now having no use for his willing pawn
took it back to the depths of Hell. Hopefully he will keep it
there.
I could go further with the
account of this night, but I dare not linger upon the morbid
details of it. I wish only to leave this dreadful place and never
think upon this night ever again. My comrades will do their best
to return to whatever normalcy of life they can. For the sake of
their famlies, they must. We can at least take comfort that such
evil has been banished from this world never to return. At least,
so long as the remains are undisturbed. For the wicked deciple of
Satan vowed revenge upon us. He vowed to return from the darkness
of Hell to unleash his wrath upon those who captured and executed
him. David and Daniel, and myself as well as the judge and
executioner. I can still hear his words ringing in my ears. He
would come back to exact vengaence, if not on us, then on our
descendents. He vowed that innocent blood would spill and bring
him back from the depths of darkness.
If his vow should come to
reality, then there will be great suffering rendered upon the
human race. And the monster will start with my family and I. It
was I who helped capture the beast and procure his confession. I
pray to the Lord Christ that these ashes will never be found or
dug up. God help us all, if they are."
As Integra finished reading
the document, her eyes widened. Her face suddenly went pale and
she felt her blood run cold.
"Sir Integra, what is
it?" Walter asked.
"The names of three men,
the men who witnessed the events of that night. Daniel Winson
Victoria, David William Dolnase, and the last name...Andre Van
Helsing."
###################################################
Integra, Walter and Zoey left
the private archives and returned to her office. It was getting
close to sundown. Integra sat behind her desk staring at the
paper in her hand. Since reading it she hadn't been able to let
it go.
"Three hundred years
before Abraham Van Helsing, my great great grandfather came to
London to deal with the vampire known as Dracula, the Van Helsing
family was already doing battle against the creatures of the
night. Andre helped capture a werewolf and see him convicted and
executed. And the other two, David William Dolnase and Daniel
Winson Victoria...they would have been targeted as well."
"He swore if he could not
bring retribution upon those who captured him, he would return
and pay it upon the decendants." Walter replied feeling a
sense of shock.
"One of my ancestors was
there that night. And so was one of Miss Victoria." He
continued.
"Seras Victoria. She's a
decendant as well. The werewolf attack that happened recently
didn't happen by the light of a full moon." Integra stated.
She sat for a moment silently
with her hands folded underneath her chin. "We need to
obtain information concerning any crimes committed before the
werewolf attacks began. They will be vital to this assignment.
Zoey, I'm going to need you to do some more researching. Find out
if there have been any particularly strange or disturbing murders
in the past few weeks. The internet would be the best place to
search. I will also be in contact with MI-5 to inquire about any
unsual killings asd well." Integra said.
"Sir Integra, what do you
think this all means?" Walter asked.
"I want to think the
conclusion I'm coming to is wrong, but if I'm not, then this is
not a mere account of history. This is a hit list, and we're at
the very top of it.
##########################################################
When evening came, Integra
summoned Alucard to her office. The red clad vampire phazed
through the bookshelf and sauntered up to Integra in his usual
fashion.
"What a beautiful moonlit
night. I do hope I will have a chance to enjoy it." He said
smoothly as he gazed out the huge picture window behind Integra's
desk.
"That's not why I
summoned you here Alucard. I have discovered some disturbing
details about something in the history of the Hellsing family.
Something that may be connected to the sudden rash of werewolf
attacks lately." Integra replied.
"Really? I'm curious as
to what you've learned." Alucard said in a near flippant
manner.
"You should be
concerned." Integra stated in a serious tone.
"And why would that be
master?" Alucard questioned.
"In 1607, a little over
four hundred years ago England suffered a very similar rash of
werewolf killings. A man known as Douglas from the province of
Salsbury was captured and tried for being a werewolf. He
confessed to the deeds for which he was accused and he was
executed soon after. Zoey came across a historical account of the
events of the night Douglas was convicted and executed. There
were three men there that night. David William Dolnase, Daniel
Winson Victoria, and Andre Van Helsing. All are ancestors of
myself, Walter and Seras." Integra explained.
"And what does this have
to do with my being concerned?" Alucard asked.
"The night Douglas was
executed, he vowed he would return from Hell to exact revenge
upon those who captured, tried and executed him. It was
discovered he had a device said to be made by the devil himself
that allowed him to change from a human into a wolf. The device
was never found. And the fact that one of the werewolf attacks
happened on a night when there was no full moon is also
disturbingly similar to the attacks that happened four hundred
years ago. Also the fact that I, Walter and Seras are all
descendents of men who captured and killed the creature. He vowed
that if he could not seek retribution against his captors, he
would return to do so against their decendants." Integra
explained.
"Can you hear it
vampire! Can you hear the howl of the beast! Soon the feast shall
begin!" The words echoed through Alucard's mind as he
thought back to the night he squared off with the female vampire.
"Have you even heard a
word I've said Alucard?" Integra demanded.
"That night, the night I
fought with a female vampire intruding upon the grounds...she
said something. She said something about the howl of the beast.
That soon the feast would begin." Alucard answered.
"The female vampire
intruding near Hellsing grounds...she's involved with the
creature. But I don't think she's controlling him. I think
she's...working along side of him." He said.
"A vampire and a werewolf
working together...this is going to be more difficult than I once
anticipated. I can't be absolutely sure, but if it is Douglas of
Salsbury who has returned to wreck havoc on this country, then
Walter, Seras and myself are all in danger. But we are not the
only decendents in peril's way."
"My son Henry and your
daughter Mariah are both in danger as well."
Alucards eyes narrowed with
subdued rage. "I'll send him back to hell first."
to be continued...
