Part 2
Chapter 5: Alive
Tyki watched his reflection in the water of the pond, the ripples obscuring the handsome features of his face. How many times had he let his mind wander like this? Thinking of useless things, like pale skin stained with blood and sweat, and his own shadowy fingers tightly wound around silver locks of hair.
The button he always kept was feeling rather heavy today. He pulled it out, gazing at the words engraved into the silver. “Allen Walker.” It had become a habit of his to absently play with the button, flipping it into the air, only to catch it tightly in his palm.
The Noah frowned, letting the fish bone clenched between his teeth to shift around, serving the same purpose his cigarettes usually did, and satisfy his fixation. He didn’t like dwelling on things, let alone something like this. He couldn’t have done anything differently, wouldn’t have. He didn’t understand why he had been so captivated by the exorcist in the first place, why the desire to conquer and tame him had been so strong. In the end, he had no choice but to kill him. Those had been his orders. And yet, he had not ripped out the boy’s heart like he had with the others. He had let Allen Walker linger longer, had he hopped for something? He shoved the bit of silver back in his waistcoat pocket.
Tyki’s hands suddenly flew into the pond, grasping another Koi fish around the gills. It was the fourth one that day, there in Edo. Since there were almost no humans left here, that meant that there was no food either. He pulled the flailing fish from the cool depths of the water, hands encircling its golden-scaled belly.
Then, the sickly voice of the jailed card who kept his assassination list, uttered the words that made his heart skip a beat and his grip unconsciously tighten. Eyes wide, with tiny droplets of water plashing across his face from the thrashing fish in his hand, Tyki’s expression was of complete shock.
“Huh? What’d you just say?” His expression shifted from disbelief to anger as he glared at the card-face, the caged keeper desperately scrubbing at Allen’s name that marked the wall of his cage- his list.
“It’s… not…disappearing…” It wailed. “ No matter…How much…I rub…and rub…”
“No No No! That’s impossible!” Tyki seethed. He still couldn’t believe it. Was this little freak in a cage messing with him?
“He’s… still… alive…” It cried.
Tyki stopped, letting the fish slip from his hands. It flapped helplessly in the dirt, drowning in the very air. The Noah watched the dying fish with cold amber eyes. It just wasn’t possible. He watched him die. There was no way anyone could survive the Tease.
The Noah felt his heart speed up at the prospect. It was hammering in his chest so loudly, he couldn’t think properly.
Suddenly, a familiar voice penetrated the air, and his concentration. Tyki cringed at the sound. Looking up, he saw Jasdevi. The two punks were making fun of him again. Shit! He didn’t want to have to deal with those two right now. He had to think!
After a few moments, Tyki sighed. There really was no time for him to waste trying to figure out how the boy had managed to survive, or even why his heart seemed lighter than usual after hearing the news. He had to go to the Earl now. His plans were being put into motion, and he needed to be there.
As the three of them made their way towards the Arc and the Earl, Tyki couldn’t help but think of the beautiful exorcist, and how lovely he looked painted in blood. How the sounds of his screams of pain, and moans of ecstasy had stirred his base instinct for carnal pleasure. He felt his pants becoming uncomfortably tight as he thought about seeing Allen Walker again- He had to find him!
