Pairing: Main Ryuichi X Tohma. Others vary.
Recap: In order to escape from the press, Tohma gives everyone a week vacation until things die down a little bit. A manipulative Mika gets Tatsuha to fully go through with the plan even though she knew Ryuichi was in love with Tohma. At a safe house of Tohma’s, Ryuichi re-confirms that Tohma is happy with his choice and the two share a really sweet moment together.
Warnings: A mix of slight sadness, bitchiness, and... nothing else really in this chapter. Even that stuff you don't have to be worried about.
There was no song used in this chapter.
Two weeks and everyone was finally coming back to Tokyo. Tohma had to extend the leave for everyone when Noriko called saying she could still not return home due to a large amount of press outside of her house. It took a week for people to finally give up minus the one or two paparazzi that would usually hang around hoping to get the latest scoop. Tohma had informed everyone to stay where they were and hidden during the next week and he had to admit he was happy to spend that time with Ryuichi.
The long drive back made Tohma wonder if things were going to be ok. He was not going to leave Ryuichi, but he just hoped they didn’t have any more incidents. He had scheduled a press conference for both him and Ryuichi with Noriko, Eiri, Suguru, and Shuichi there just in case. He was sure someone was going to ask Noriko if she knew anything before the events transpired. He was sure that someone was going to ask Eiri, his former brother in law, how Mika was doing though he doubted they talked. They would ask Suguru if he saw any problems with the marriage since he was Tohma’s cousin and he knew they would ask who Tohma was getting vocal lessons from hence Shuichi.
Ryuichi looked over at the passenger seat and smiled softly at Tohma. “If you keep worrying so much, you will give yourself wrinkles.” he said lightly making a turn. “Seriously though Tohma stop worrying. The damage is already done and the only thing we can do is show that this wasn’t some malicious attempt on my part or an act of neglect on yours.”
“Neglect?” Tohma asked not quite expecting there to be that response. He thought about it for a moment and realized that it made quite a bit of sense. “It would be strange for them to pin the word or description on me. After all, doesn’t it take someone who feels such a way or similar in their relationship to look for what they aren’t getting from their partner?” he asked as they took an exit back into the city.
“It does, but that is the sad part of it all. The fact of the matter is there are those idiots that are going to believe you were being neglectful towards your wife. How much sense does that make? Not much considering the circumstances, but I am sure that it makes sense to someone. However, if she was being neglected you’d think she would just have an affair rather than happily wait for you to come home, so she could go out and spend your money.” Ryuichi said. He didn’t like Mika and he wasn’t going to act as though he did.
Tohma said nothing against that and just stared out the window for a while before getting confused. “Where? This isn’t the way to my house or your apartment, Ryuichi. So where are we going?” Tohma asked.
Ryuichi for a moment reverted back to his more childish public persona while keeping control of the car. “We are going to our house silly.” he said smiling at the almost deadpanned look Tohma gave him.
“Our house?” Tohma repeated both as a question and a statement with curiosity laced throughout his voice.
“Yes.”, Ryuichi said once again being his more serious self. “Going back to your old place would give you unwanted memories. My apartment will be constantly swarming with paparazzi regardless of whether or not there is security readily available. So, when you were sleeping I called K and asked him to find a nice place to live for us. It’s already furnished and everything though I am sure we can decorate it however we want later.”
A smile appeared on Tohma’s face. “Thank you.”
Ryuichi just smiled before taking a turn and driving into the garage of a rather nice house. It was nice with a blue paint finish on the outside, and a fence surrounding the property. It looked like an older style home, but Tohma had no doubt the builder was influenced by American design. It was simple and yet elegant making Tohma smile yet again. Yes, Ryuichi knew him so well. The inside of the house was decorated with darker colors, but not dark enough to block light from the room. It was stylish and yet not overly done in a different yet slightly reminiscent style that Tohma’s safe house. It was nice to know someone paid attention to him when it came to the small things.
“Well we have some time before the press conference this evening. How about we go and get some rest?” Ryuichi asked Tohma.
Tohma nodded. “That would be best. I don’t want to end up there not ready due to reasons of exhaustion.” he said and followed the singer to their bedroom.
The bedroom was large and Tohma had to admit the small, antique looking chandelier suited the room beautifully. It looked to be a mix of Gothic and Victorian styles with dark shades of blue and black for the bedding and a mix of dark blue and a deep cream color on the walls. The furniture was most certainly made of aged wood that had darkened considerably finished with a light wood wax.
“Do you like it?” Ryuichi asked. “It was something that I saw in a magazine while in America. It was different, but I liked it.”
Tohma turned to Ryuichi and gave him a kiss. “It is a bit different than what I am used to, but its nice.” he said going over to the bed and touching it lightly before taking off his heavier clothes and climbing in.
Ryuichi went over and joined him after setting the alarm before closing his eyes to take a light nap.
~At the hall used for the conference~
Shuichi was currently playing with Ryuichi and Kumaguro since the other was at the moment in full blast of his child-like persona. Eiri looked like he had a million other things he wanted to do Noriko was just casually talking to Tohma until Sakano came back to tell them that everyone was there.
Tohma took a deep breath and went out in front of the crowd of reporters. “Two weeks ago, there was an incident at the combined Nittle Grasper and Bad Luck concert. My former wife, Mika Uesugi and my current lover got into an argument concerning me on stage. I want to let you all know the truth right now. Mika and I were never happy. The marriage was arranged and I had barely seen my wife during that time.” he said looking at the crowd with a light, sad, very practiced smile that had all the reporters and some fans sighing with sadness.
“It will never amaze me what these idiots believe.” Eiri mumbled to Shuichi backstage knowing only the singer would hear him. Shuichi nudged Eiri with his elbow and continued to watch what was going on.
“I believe I perhaps handled the situation the wrong way, but is it really wrong to want to find love when you don’t feel it with the one you are with?”, Tohma asked them. “I wanted to be happy with my wife, but she was never happy with me. I spent nights at the office just because she didn’t want me home. It was one of these times that I noticed Ryuichi had been paying attention more than usual to me. He confessed to me and I thought about it and said why not. He would know me better than anyone and has yet to show any differently. Is it wrong to be with someone you connect so completely with?”
“And I thought I was good at raising the ol’ bullshit meter.” Eiri mumbled only to get elbowed by Shuichi again.
Shuichi rolled his eyes. “At least half… err… a quarter of that isn’t bullshit. He never saw Mika and he does love Ryuichi. The filler of it at least sounded nice. Be more romantic Yuki.” Shuichi said with a pout as Ryuichi was asked to come out on stage.
The press conference lasted for the next two hours with everyone having to answer a variety of questions. Ryuichi had to feel the most for Noriko since she hadn’t known how long they were together or anything. They hadn’t told her and the press was asking her question after question. Suguru had handled the questions with almost as much practiced ease as Tohma did. Eiri was hardly fazed by the line of questioning and Shuichi easily slipped into the bubbly overly romantic singer that most people thought he was. It was things like this that made Ryuichi wonder if the press truly thought there was no more depth to them than who they play.
Once the reporters cleared out and Tohma made sure everything was in order, he looked at the others. “Considering the length of the conference and the time, how about I treat everyone to dinner. Noriko, if you want to bring your husband feel free to call him. Suguru if yo-”, he started but Suguru shook his head.
“I have someone special, but this is not the time to think about that. I will talk to them when I see them next, but I do believe the best way to start the relationship is to build up the friendship even more.” he said to them. “I would suggest perhaps inviting Hiro and K to dinner, but I don’t think they are free at the moment.”
No one needed nor asked for clarification on what Suguru meant. It was quite obvious what the younger male was implying and to be honest it was not a shock to anyone what was going on. Instead, Tohma just nodded and picked a restaurant for them all to meet at. One phone call ensured that they would be placed in a nice private VIP room with no disturbances from fans, paparazzi or anyone else who may come to interrupt their dinner.
~At the restaurant~
The dinner would have been uneventful if it hadn’t been for the waitress being a fan girl of the famous romance novelist, Eiri Yuki. Apparently, she was a new waitress at the restaurant and not yet ready to handle meeting famous clientele. It had taken a long time just to get their order and when she had come back into the room you could see paparazzi and fans taking pictures the moment the door opened. It was annoying and throughout the meal, they had to deal with that each time they wanted something.
If that hadn’t been annoying enough, the fan girl had decided that she was better for Eiri than Shuichi was. That of course would have easily meant a large fight and spectacle in which Tohma would have to clear up as soon as possible or risk one of his top selling artists going to jail. However, everyone but Eiri and Suguru were shocked when Shuichi looked at the waitress and gave her the most charming smile, a phone number, before sweetly telling the girl if she ever called she’d regret it and giving her a peck on the cheek.
The waitress had looked wide-eyed and the next time she came back to give them their desserts and all of the paparazzi and fans were gone from the outside of the door. Ryuichi waited until she left and congratulated Shuichi, stating that he didn’t think the pink haired singer had it in him. Suguru snorted at that one commenting on the fact that no one expected Ryuichi to be all dominate over Tohma at that concert causing everyone to laugh including Ryuichi himself.
Once the dinner was over, Tohma told them all about the new place Ryuichi had gotten and they would need a few days to completely move and settle in. Therefore, he told them that everyone had to report to work in a couple of days, however if Bad Luck wanting to go in for half days he would prefer it since Shuichi takes a while to write lyrics anyway.
Ryuichi looked at Tohma yawning a little bit and asking him if he was ready to go home. Tohma said yes while assessing Ryuichi’s current state and saying that he would drive instead.
~On the way home~
Tohma was driving home smiling at the fact that slowly, but surely his life was going to start getting on track once again. He was in a good relationship. He had friends and had found them unexpectedly at that. He had a new place with no memories of Mika and that would be helpful as he could concentrate more on not allowing another relationship to fail as spectacularly as that one did, but this one was different. He couldn’t mess up this time. He knew if he did that he would lose Ryuichi for good and no song would make him change his mind.
A beeping noise sounded and Tohma took out his phone as he continued to drive. He had his phone in his hand with both hands still on the steering wheel. A text message?, he thought a little curious as to who sent him a text this late. He opened it up and glanced at it. In that instant Tohma felt his life slow down and speed up all at once. He didn’t realize that he was speeding towards a railroad crossing in which a train was coming closer and closer.
He didn’t hear Ryuichi calling his name over and over again as the message ran through his mind. ‘Tohma, I just wanted you to know. I’m pregnant with our child. Love Mika’
The sound of the train seemed to scream in his ears as a white light filled his vision and some screeching was heard of the train wheels against the metal railroad.
‘What do I do now…?’
And there you have it folks. Chapter 5. Don’t you just love minor cliffhangers? I do. Lol.
