Chapter 5: A Disappearing Act
A/N: Told you I would post soon! Also, in the anime, Pokémon know more then 4 moves, so yeah, these do too. Also, a change has been made to the last chapter. The Eevee that was staring at Akira had been from the egg, however, I’m changing that into a Snivy. If it was a Snivy when you read it, it means I already changed it.
Sky, you made me giggly and giddy. Ty so much for the very great well thought out review!

Akira was panting by the time he stopped his bike and arrived at the power plant. He threw his tied legs over the bike, letting it fall to the ground, before casting slightly med induced tired eyes around to make sure he wasn’t followed. Once satisfied, he continued onward into the large, darkened building. He supposed, idly, that if he was a normal 10 year old boy, he would have been scared at how haunted the building now looked from the outside.
He pushed the large double doors open, allowing what little light from the rising sun to spill into the dark, abandoned warehouse. Ignoring his shoulder’s protests, he was about to reach for a Pokémon to brighten his way, when the lights in the building suddenly switched on, and the doors closed behind him. A man stood opposite him in the large warehouse. He was smirking and clamping his hands slowly. “You must be the leader,” Akira said in a hazed voice.
The man shrugged. “Knew you would come here.” He said in an arrogant voice. Just like Akira predicted, he was an older man with slightly graying hair, about mid to late 30’s. He was handsome, in shape, with his hair slicked back against his head. “I’m going to take you out!” He called with conceded voice, reaching for a Pokémon from his belt.
Instantly, Akira reached for his own Pokémon, “Cerberus, go!”
An Arcanine appeared, already ready for battle. He was large for an Arcanine, standing almost seven feet tall. His fur shone bright with health, and his eyes glared with rage. He gave a roar and stomped a paw, shaking the foundation. Smirking, the man across from him released his Pokémon, and a very well raised Machamp appeared before them, flexing its taunt muscles.
Akira relaxed, hands in his pockets while surveying the area around him. Being a narcissist, his opponent didn’t think to invite any of the members here with him, thinking he could take the boy down on his own. “Cerberus, use fire fang!” Instantly, the giant dog was galloping across the warehouse, his mouth glowing as he conjured his flames.
“Earthquake.” Giving a battle cry, the Machamp enclosed it’s hands into fists and punched the ground as hard as it could. The concrete gave way and cracks appeared rapidly, spreading towards Cerberus, making the fire hound jump to the right to miss falling into the newly Poké-made gorge. The dog wasn’t lucky, however, as his paw landed on a piece of concrete jutting up from the ground. He whimpered in pain, but stood only a moment after.
“Flamethrower.” As soon as the word left his mouth, the flames appeared raging and roaring towards the Machamp.
Instead of dodging the attack, the Pokémon took it full force, only bringing it’s massive arms up to protect it’s torso and body. “Revenge!” The owner cried over the blazing inferno around his Pokémon. The Machamp forced itself through the flames, eyes glowing with power, and once it reached Cerberus, it brought an arm down. The Arcanine growled and tried to duck, but the Machamp guessed the move and used one of it’s under arms to side swipe the dog, knocking it back several feet.
Cerberus stood with difficulty, feeling the broken ribs in his side. Still, he did not back down. The dog Pokémon also noted with satisfaction the open burn wounds covering the Machamp’s arms, shoulders, and legs. They glowed bright read and oozed a black blood that Machamps were famous for.
“Use an Alpha maneuver!” As soon as the Arcanine heard the words spill from it’s trainers mouth, he sprang into action - literally. Akira was a smart boy, smarter then most. When Cerberus was just a Growlithe, he and Akira trained for days on 4 different series of maneuvers: Alpha, Beta, Phi, Omega. Each party Pokémon in the Legendary Team were taught a different series of maneuvers, using the same four names. In this case, Cerberus jumped forward, using his Extreme Speed (a new addition to the maneuver) and went into a Double team, surround the opponent faster then the eye could see. While the Machamp was busy trying to find him, Cerberus let out a massive fire blast from behind, hitting the fighting Pokémon in deadly, point blank blaze. The Machamp barreled over and flew forward a few feet, landing on it’s face. It’s back was completely charred and slit open, and black blood poured from the wound, spilling onto the broken concrete. The Pokémon tried to stand, but fell over, exhausted.
The man growled and returned the Pokémon. He then smirked arrogantly when he picked his next Pokéball. “Go, Poliwrath!”
The Pokémon appeared, looking just as smug as it’s owner. Akira looked to his Arcanine, who was bleeding crimson and sporting bruises on his rib cage. Akira knew with the amount of bruising and blood loss, that a few ribs had to have been broken. Giving a look of frustration, he called his dependable hound Pokémon back and reached for another Pokémon.
He also smirked wide as he threw out the Pokéball containing his Metagross. “Go Cobalt.” The Metagross’s metal exterior shone brightly in the lit building, the blue bouncing off the lights and walls that would make anyone stare in awe at it. It’s dark red eyes were already scanning the area for weaknesses, for any signs of advantages. The Pokémon stared each other down for a moment, as did the trainers. Being part psychic type, the Metagross had a huge advantage in this battle. However, Poliwrath had the ability to learn a few ground type moves, which was a risky move for Akira - but he knew this. He had already calculated the odds when the mysterious man had unleashed the Poliwrath. By his calculations, Cobalt was his best chance.
Instead of commanding his Pokémon, the man relaxed and asked, “Do you even want to know your killers name?”
With narrowed eyes, Akira spoke slowly, “I am not dead, and you will not kill me. However, if it will make you feel better I shall ask: what is your name?”
The man scoffed and shifted positions before replying in one word. “Shi.”
The ten year old noticed the anger flashing in the mans face. Shi was obviously upset that Akira thought so little of him. The name was clearly a gang name - something his followers called him. Shi was Japanese for death. Though, Akira couldn’t seem to pull anything from his mind about a man using this alias. This man was new to the game - very new. “Shi?” Akira rolled his eyes to further anger the man. “A name I will soon forget. You are merely nothing more then a criminal I will put behind bars.”
His tactic worked; Shi’s lips narrowed into a thin line, his eye brows knitted together, slanted towards his nose. Then, contempt flashed, and he held his head make, a snarling smirk adoring his face. “Poliwrath, use Hail.” The Poliwrath did a dance, then raised it’s now glowing arms. A could appeared and from said storm cloud, shards of ice began to beat down upon them.
The ice pelted Metagross, but the Pokémon could hardly feel it. His vision was more impaired then anything. “Stay focused!” Akira shouted. ‘Why use an ice move? Does he not know that Metagross is hardly affected by ice? Or does he have something else up his sleeve?’ The boy noted the fog that rolled in, making it hard to see. ‘That must be his plan. But why? Metagross isn’t a fast Pokémon. Why would he need to hinder it’s vision?’ He got the answer a second later when he heard the other man shout;
“Now, Focus Blast!”
Akira cursed his luck. He had not taught Cobalt protect. “Phi maneuver!” He shouted quickly to his Pokémon, trying to get his voice to raise over the storm. He could hardly make out the Metagross, but it appeared that the Pokémon heard him. First, it used Sunny Day, the X on it’s face glowed bright, then shot out up into the sky. Before the Hail had even cleared, the Metagross used light screen, covering it’s front from attack. It would have worked, if the Poliwrath ad been attacking from the front. Akira saw the blue Pokémon charging from Cobalt’s left, a glowing orb in it’s hands. “To the left!”
But the Metagross was not fast enough. Poliwrath fired the charged shot and it landed as the steel/psychic Pokémon was turning, catching it’s side. It’s clawed feet dug into the ground as it was pushed back and surrounded by the powerful charge. “Enough of this!” Akira cried. “Psychic, Cobalt!”
The light from the blast still surrounded Cobalt, but Akira knew he could not have fainted yet. Sure enough, a pink/purplish shot was first from the glowing white spot and smashed into Poliwrath, making the Pokémon cry out in pain and take to a knee. The psyonic energy infiltrated the Pokémon’s body, and it held it’s head while it’s nose and eyes started to bleed. Finally, it stopped screaming, it’s eyes closed, as the energy left it.
“Get up, you worthless Pokémon! Use Mud-bomb!” Shi cried, Making Akira glare at him. Being part fighting Pokémon, the attack had severely wounded the Poliwrath, but Shi seemed to not care. The Poliwrath stood on shaky feet, then opened it’s mouth, firing several balls of mud at the now visible Cobalt.
“Dodge, then use Thunder Punch.”
With the Poliwrath hurt and slow, it was easy to dodge the attack. The Metagross moved around the mud balls, dodging each one while advancing. Once close enough, it drew back a front leg and it’s claws glowed with electricity before it landed hard in the gut of the Poliwrath. This time, the water Pokémon did not get up.
Snarling, Shi returned the Pokémon. “Go Blaziken! Use Fire Blast!” Swiftly, the Pokémon appeared, his mouth already glowing with the attack, leaving Metagross no time to counter.
“Return Cobalt!” Just as the Pokémon disappeared, the blast piled through the spot it once stood. It was illegal to do what Shi just did, but Akira knew the man didn’t care. “Go, Panzer!” The Pokémon that appeared stood almost 8 feet tall. Traditional for a Rhyperior, you could tell how strong it was by the color of it’s red plates. Panzer’s plates were crimson; very powerful indeed.
Something flashed in Shi’s eyes, alarming Akira. The sunlight still shone brightly in the building, making both men sweat slightly. “Solar beam.”
With wide eyes, Akira could only watch in horror as a beam of bright light shot forth from the Blaziken’s mouth. It was extremely rare for the fire/fighting Pokémon to be able to use this move - Akira himself had never seen a Blaziken be able to pull it off. But this one did; Panzer tried to dodge that extra charged, powerful grass attack, but he was too slow, making it hit full force, sending him flying. The Rhyperior hit the wall hard and cried out in pain. His trainer ran over to him, bending down and placing a hand on his chest. It opened pain filled eyes, but Akira turned his own away. The boy was angry at himself - he should have known. Should have used his water Pokémon. With tear/hatred filled eyes, he turned his face towards Shi, who was smirking. Akira snarled and reached for his Garchomp’s Pokéball. “You will pay for that!” She cried, throwing the ball. “Go, Seiryu!”
Time stopped as the Pokéball opened. At least, for Akira it did. A glowing Electrode sprang forth, unleashing a mighty explosion. His opponent’s eyes went wide before the ten year old couldn’t see anymore. Suddenly, he was glowing, green, but the Protect did little to help. Akira and his Pokémon were still slammed against their backs with immense force against the wall the had been by. It was pushing the air from his lungs, he couldn’t breath. Debris was flying at them, bouncing off the green shield before them.
He was dropped doggedly, his skull smashing onto the ground, his shoulder throbbing as it was e-opened. With shallow breath, he tried to stand, but fell back down. His vision blurred and he blinked his eyes rapidly. Someone had betrayed him. Only Jenny, his mother, and Richard could have exchanged those Pokéballs. He heard footsteps over the ringing of his ears, and someone’s voice, talking.
“Hello, my name is Mai Tesieh Geltrea, I‘m a reporter. I’d like to report an explosion.” It sounded as if the woman was talking into a phone. “Where? The power plant that was shut down. One of the people is still alive.” She paused. “His name? Akira Edogawa. Send Police Chief Jenny.” She was saying something else, but Akira could no longer hear her. He closed his eyes, knowing help was on the way, and for the second time in 24 hours, he passed out, to hurt to stay awake.
