Heartfelt Interference
Chapter Five
Age 13
Eevee was laid out on your lap, content and licking up the crumbs that you had dropped as you ate. You looked up at the clock as you licked your fingers. Your eyes went wide as you realized you were already five minutes late to head out for school. And you hadn't even gotten dressed or showered yet! You looked to your mom as you debated something. It wasn't that long of an internal debate as you quickly made up your mind.
"Hey, mom?"
"Hmm?" she murmured as she licked her fingers to get rid of the crumbs.
"Can I stay home today?
She didn't look at all surprised with your request. "Sure. I'll tell them you twisted your ankle yesterday when you went to stop those boys."
You smiled, the expression held a hint of guilt as she got up from her seat. You'd almost forgotten about the boys, almost. You did, entirely, forget to tell your parents about them. Considering that they were part of the breeding circle on this ranch it wasn't a surprise that they found out, however.
"Thanks," You murmured as you picked Eevee up and stood up.
You sat Eevee down on the ground, kneeling down and tapping his nose with your finger for a moment to make sure you had his undivided attention. He tilted his head, ears perked up and eyes alight with curiosity.
"I'm going to go talk to Rorsh now. So I need you to stay right here. Or you can go play outside and I'll find you in a bit. Okay?"
Eevee nodded and trotted off to the front door. You opened it for him, letting the door stay opened so the fresh breeze could come in. Once he found a Pidgey to chase you figured that he was good for at least an hour. You headed back to your room and closed the door behind you.
Rorsh had climbed up onto your window seal. He'd apparently pushed the window to the side to completely open it up too, which was why he had plenty of room. His ears flicked as he head you come in and his upper body almost seemed to twitch as he registered the sensation with his fur. But he didn't turn around to see you which meant that he was purposefully ignoring you.
"Rorsh...what are you so upset about?" You asked in a quiet voice.
He was still ignoring you. Biting your bottom lip you stepped in closer, slowly extending your hand. You brushed under his chin, twisting your fingers up and scratching ever so lightly. His head tilted towards you almost as though it were against his will. His tail turned around your arm when you went to pull back so you just started to bed down his chest instead.
'What's wrong?' You thought, pushing your thought like you had done yesterday.
It still felt strange. Like you were trying to hard for something to happen. Trying to push your own desires onto someone else or something. But at the same time it felt like the right thing to do. Like you were poking through a rubber bubble until it absorbed your finger somehow. And you knew that it went across to him, somehow, when he looked you straight in the eyes and his jewel started to glow with his psychic powers.
"Your mother wants you to replace me."
Your eyes widened as you stop petting him in shock. "What?"
"She gave you him."
"Because I did well with you, that's all. She's not trying to replace you."
His expression was dark and mutinous as he tilted his head ever so slightly, highlighting the angles of his face. His jewel flashed bright for a moment as a sense of possessive anger spread from him. But as he went to look back at the trees outside, the jewels glow died down. You slowly pulled your arm back so his tail could unwrap at a comfortable speed. It wrapped around his body and settled between his front feet. You moved around so you could catch his eye once more.
He looked at you once, then twice and yet he refused to give you his attention back once more. So with a huff you grabbed his face between your hand and made him look at you once more. He didn't try to fight when you turned his face, so you didn't have to use any force at all.
"No one will ever be able to replace you Rorsh. You'll always be my first and that's never going to change," you said in an affectionate tone, with a tender smile. "You know I love you. Having more pokemon will never change that."
You leaned down and rubbed his nose with yours. Before you completely pulled back his tongue flickered over your nose just like he used to do, what Eevee had just recently done as well. You laughed as you rubbed your nose with the back of your hand, sticking your tongue out at him. He had made that lick extra slobbery, you were sure of that.
"Come on lover boy, let's go find Eevee."
You knew exactly what that look he gave you translated to. It was a wholehearted 'no'. You shook your finger at his face and tsked him.
"He's just a baby. Like you were, remember? Besides, I took the day off from school so we can all get to know one another," you scolded him.
Rorsh bit down on your finger. Gently of course but you felt the pressure of his teeth as he held your finger between them. There was the ever present threat of him biting down harder and breaking your skin but you trusted him not to do that. So you slowly pulled your finger away from him and sighed.
"Fine, if you don't want to go, you don't have to. But I'm going to go find Eevee and play. You can stay here and pout."
As much as you loved Rorsh you weren't going to ignore someone else (even another Pokemon) because he didn't want to join. Especially considering that it was only going to get worse the older you and he got. If you let him be this possessive over all your time and gave in to it, you were never going to be able to be a breeder. So you turned around with a murmured 'see you later' to head out the door.
You found Eevee within a few minutes. He was playing with the same Pidgey you saw him chasing at the start. Slowly you crept up on him, catching the poor thing by surprise when your hands started to tickle his exposed tummy.
"EEE!" He yipped and rolled over quickly.
You laughed at the completely shocked look on his face. You sat back on your butt as the laughter rocked his body. He gave you an indignant look and barked something over to the wild Pidgey. You were pretty sure it was something like 'Let's get her!'. Which came true when both Pokemon toppled you over.
Eevee backed up quickly, pulling your shirt up with his mouth. Your hands tried to pull the shirt down between your laughter but you weren't quick enough to stop what the Pokemon teamed up to do. Pidgey's wing tips brushed around your stomach as she kept herself hovering right above the ground. Your legs started to kick as the laughter turned into shrieks as Eevee and Pidgey teamed up to tickle you. It was really no fair!
"Ch-che-cheats!" you finally got out as you found the strength to turn onto your side.
The smell of the grass was sweet. The grass pokemon took great care of this area and the lack of foot traffic kept it feeling so clean. Well, as clean as being outdoor could get. Maybe the better word to use was pure. It definitely wasn't one of the corals that much was sure.
Eevee stopped trying to pull your shirt up in favor of climbing up to nestle in the still developing dip of your ribs to hips. It felt like he was trying to work his way down into your insides from the way he was persistent in digging his nose into your side. Considering that he was already at a foot tall, which meant that he was easily twice that from tip of his tail to nose, Eevee ended up taking up the whole lot more room than he probably meant to.
Still, his fur was tickling you. not to mention that the Pidgey had started to perch on your legs. The flying pokemon acted like the way your legs twitched as a game; a game that you didn't know the rules to, if there were things as human as rules to this little Pokemon. Somehow you doubted it. More than likely the Pidgey was just trying to see who could move faster - you or she. Right as you started to get into the swing of things, a call from another Pidgey pulled this one's attention away from you and Eevee. With a flap of her wings, Pidgey was off into the sky. Or at least you would assume so because she could have just gone into the treetops and you'd have been known the wiser.
Finally you were able to pull Eevee off of your side. He dangled in your hands with his tail swishing underneath him ever so calmly. Happy and affectionate little thing. As you sat him back down on the ground, something caught your eye. From the bushes, a bright orange ball was flung. You smiled and caught it as Rorsh walked out, looking as though he had always intended to join the two of you. Which you knew wasn't the case but you didn't want to tease him. He probably had just gotten lonely sitting in your room.
"Well since you brought the ball, you get to pick. Soccer or fetch?" You asked as you stood up.
Rorsh lowered his front hunches to the ground, angling his back and stretching his tail up to the sky as he contemplated the question. Eevee sat beside your feet as he eyed the orange ball. It fit in one of your hands and had no distinguishing symbols other than the fact that you knew for sure it was a very durable ball. It could take a gyarados' bite and live to tell the tale.
"Soccer."
You smiled and started to set up three separate goal zones. It should be noted that the 'Soccer' you had played with Rorsh over the last three years was not actual Soccer. It didn't have all the foul rules or lines. It barely even had the same type of scoring. The most it had in common was that you, as the human, weren't allowed to use your hands. As a pokemon they weren't allowed to use their attacks or try and trip you up. The goal was to get into a 'goal zone' that wasn't your own. Usually it was just Rorsh's as it had been the two of you for three years, which was why it resembled Soccer a little bit, but now you needed to make three because Eevee was a new addition to the group.
So you quickly explained that Eevee needed to try to keep the ball out of his goal zone while simultaneously trying to get it into either yours or Rorsh's. Meanwhile the two of you would be doing something similar. You also made sure to explain that he couldn't tackle you or Rorsh or use any attack. He had to use all four of his feet, his head, his tail, or whatever other body part he could think of in order to maneuver the ball. And once that had been explained the game was on.
Normally Rorsh was so agile you had to work your hardest to keep up. He was still agile, it was true, but you knew that he was still dealing with all the extra sensory issues. Which meant that he was lagging behind the normal pace you were used to from him. It made stealing the ball out from under his front feet rather easy. Though as you got near his goal, you found that Eevee had rushed the ball out of your pass. The orange ball zig zagged towards your goal from the rather talented Eevee's attempts. Right up to the point where he'd gotten overconfident and the ball's direction was changed by a small rock jutting up from the dirt.
Eevee crashed and burned as the ball out from his control. Rorsh zoomed in and took control, scoring a goal in your goal zone. With a playful frown, you hurried to set the ball into play again and as soon as it was on the 'field' (the three of you were still in the forest) you made a dash for it. With a quick twirl around the determined Eevee, you got into his goal. Eevee headbutted the ball back into play and took his size difference to be a strength as he slid underneath Rorsh's high rising torso arc. Rorsh stood three feet tall from shoulders to ground, after all, and Eevee was only a foot tall. Which meant that he had plenty of room to dive under and push the ball away from Rorsh's feet.
It didn't mean that the little pokemon got the ball himself, nope. You stole it as it rolled away from the two of them. Though you didn't get to keep it very long as Rorsh was able to use his splitted tail to flick the ball off course. Before it could be recovered it ended up in his own goal zone and you had to stop and laugh.
He, however, didn't find it very funny as he had to put the ball back into play. But the mood quickly dissipated as the game continued on. It didn't stop until you had to lean against the tree as the sun set, trying to catch your breath. Even then Rorsh and Eevee (both exhausted you could tell) had to have one last sudden death match to see who was the victor.
The winner ended up being the female Pidgey from earlier who picked the ball up at the moment and flew around the goal zones like a hundred times before dropping the ball back off in the middle.
