“So,” Naneko said as she delicately placed down the cup of tea presented to her, “what I’M saying is: if you’re gonna break it, you’re gonna buy it.” She held up a golden credit card between two fingers, which she had swiped from the blond haired monk before making her escape. Sitting across the table, the Merciful Goddess let out a laugh in agreement with the succubus.
“I don’t blame you. That nightie was certainly an exquisite masterpiece.”
“Merciful Goddess,” Jiroushin exclaimed, “how could you be so casual, allowing a demon within these walls?” The Merciful Goddess looked to him over her shoulder.
“Don’t be such a stiff,” she replied, “sometimes I just need a little girl time.”
“Yeah, Jin,” Naneko winked. Jiroushin choked back his shock, flustered by her bold advances and turned away from the two.
“I must say,” the Merciful Goddess began, “You did cut it a bit close with the aftermath of your little desert incident.”
Naneko cackled at the comment. “Oh yes,” she replied, “I was just so disappointed your nephew didn’t nip that in the bud when I practically handed the monkey over on a silver platter.”
“You didn’t wear him down enough!”
“Unfortunately,” Naneko commented, “but luckily Tsuki’s little desert in the oasis procured amazing results to get that wild beast corralled back into his little cage. But I’m curious,” she continued, “you mentioned Homura wasn’t always the War Prince.”
“That is correct,” the Merciful Goddess replied.
“Being that Tsuki is a dear friend and supplier of mine,” the succubus continued, “I am concerned about their relationship. What happened with the previous War Prince that Homura was forced to take on such a title?”
The Merciful Goddess nodded, bringing her own tea to her lips. “Being that we are both concerned for her well-being, and you have been a great source of entertainment, I will give you a small tidbit of what I know.”
“Is that wise, Merciful Goddess,” Jiroushin asked, concerned about her sharing such sensitive information regarding someone else’s past.
The Merciful Goddess turned to her assistant. “It’s not like what happened with Nataku is a hard kept secret, Jiroushin. She deserves to know just as much as anyone being that she did make waves taming an untamable beast.” She could feel Jiroushin’s unease with her comment.
The Merciful Goddess turned back to Naneko and sighed. “I understand your concerns, Jiroushin. The problem right now is that we need to have as many eyes on Homura as we can. It’s obvious no one from Heaven will do it. I trust Naneko more than some of the other higher ups around here that would prefer to push papers than take action.”
Jiroushin straightened his stance and, with his hands folded behind his back, knew he couldn’t stop her from talking. Taking in a deep breath and finishing her tea, the Merciful Goddess turned her attention back to Naneko’s query.
“500 years ago, when Nataku had taken too much damage during the battle against Gyumaoh, that’s when Tsuki’s world drastically changed..."

“Tsuki,” her uncle shouted. Tsuki hurried down the halls of the home, rushing to his side. He bellowed out her name again, almost shaking the columns throughout the household. When Tsuki thrust open the doors to the room where his voice boomed, she saw her uncle leaning over the occupant in a high-backed chair, appearing dejected.
“Yes, uncle,” she replied. He snapped his head in her direction, there was a deranged look in his eyes. Over his shoulder, she spotted a familiar frame sitting in the chair. Tsuki squinted her eyes; was that — War Prince Nataku? She had only seen him from afar, but he was well known throughout Heaven as being the only one permitted within the armies of the Heavenly Palace to kill in the Lower World.
His skills were legendary, but word had spread that he had been struggling during the most recent war with a high-level demon known as Gyumaoh. Heaven had forbade any of the armies or anyone else in Heaven to aid him during the fights. Today, he appeared to be extremely worn down.
Suddenly, Tsuki was thrown to the floor, the sound of her uncle’s hand connecting with her cheek rang throughout the room. “Stupid girl,” he barked, “I did not tell you to enter!”
Tsuki picked herself up and lowered her head. “I beg your forgiveness, uncle, I meant no disrespect. I heard the urgency in your voice and came as swiftly as I could.”
“Get out,” he screamed. Taking both hands to her shoulders, he shoved Tsuki until she was thrown out of the room, the doors slamming in her face. “Officials from the Jade Palace are coming! Slaughter anyone that trespasses!”
Tsuki was confused, her uncle was clearly detached. Why would he order her to kill officials? She had done so before, but always in the Lower World, and never someone from the Jade Palace. Tsuki questioned her uncle’s orders; something she had never done before.
Why was War Prince Nataku in their home? Why was her uncle so frantic about the War Prince being in such disarray? Something was not adding up. Tsuki ran from the property, scaling nearby residences and peering from rooftops.
Heaven was certainly abuzz today. Rumors quickly spread of Prince Nataku’s condition and questions were raised about his recovery. Amidst the panic, in the outer circle of the city, whispers spread that Rinrei had disappeared. Tsuki felt her mind collapsing. First she discovered the War Prince in her uncle’s home, her uncle seemed to have taken on another personality she had never witnessed before and now Rinrei was missing? It was a lot of information to process all at once.
Panic and confusion began to set in. Tsuki ran throughout the grounds seeking out Homura to ask what was going on with Rinrei and to tell him about her uncle, but found Homura was difficult to locate. Tsuki made her way back into the upper ring of the city and snuck into the Jade Palace. Finally, she had spotted Homura who was being heavily escorted to the Jade Emperor’s main chamber.
There was something wrong. It was like her entire world was collapsing, or perhaps a veil had been lifted. Either there was something else going on within Heaven that she was unaware of, or her eyes were being forced open to the reality she had been living with this whole time.
Tsuki was startled as she was firmly grasped by numerous palace guards and arrested for trespassing without so much as an explanation or an answer to her pleas regarding Homura.

Days turned into weeks, Tsuki’s uncle had been under investigation for performing illegal experiments, mixing magic and science as well as manipulating the officials. Tsuki was overwhelmed with the events as she finally received word about Rinrei. The intimate relationship between her and Homura had been exposed. As punishment, the Jade Emperor cast Rinrei to the Lower World, reincarnated as a human without her memories of Heaven.
Thanks to the damage done during the battle against Gyumaoh, Prince Nataku had become a motionless corpse, trapped within the confines of his own mind. No one knew if he’d ever recover. In his absence, the Jade Emperor declared Homura the new War Prince. This meant he would be forbidden from seeing Rinrei in the Lower World.
Tsuki’s relationship with the two was also exposed. Combined with her uncle’s illicit activities, deceiving members of the hierarchy, and the fact that she was a heretic was all the officials needed to accuse Tsuki of conspiring against Heaven.
Heavy cuffs were strapped to each forearm over her own power limiters. They were the strongest of chains crafted by the gods, enchanted to weigh her down and restrict her from her full potential; a death sentence should she ever end up on the front lines of a battlefield. Tsuki could feel her body changing, almost as if she were human. The double dose of power limiters drained her of her strength from both her mother and father’s bloodlines.
With so many chaotic events occurring within a short period of time, fear clawed its way into her mind. Tsuki truly began to realize she had been assisting to cultivate all sorts of corruption within Heaven and if she didn’t escape to the Lower World, she could very well die.
Despite the cuffs, Tsuki was not heavily supervised and allowed her to walk within the palace grounds. Officials must have thought the restraints would deter her from escape. Though she was successful in escaping watchful eyes, she needed to hurry and locate Homura to flee together to the Lower World.
Tsuki took one last look at the Jade Palace, debating about whether or not to break out her uncle from his own cell, but she knew he had no desire to see her if she had no way of reawakening the former War Prince and restoring his glory. With that, Tsuki made her way to the portal down to the Lower World.
As Tsuki got closer to the portal, she spotted Homura. There was no time for small talk. They both accepted the fact that this defiance would label them as fugitives of Heaven, and neither of them cared. Despite their limitations, they were both still powerful enough to hold their own against any one of Heaven’s armies should they be ambushed. However, to increase their chances of survival, to avoid being thrown into a cell for centuries, they both knew it was better to split up.
With one last look at Homura, Tsuki ran ahead of him and burst through the portal and journeyed down to the Lower World.
