A full month of just hanging out in the wild training.
Shade's physical appearance had not changed much, just a lot more toned muscle. She still even had the slight feminine curves she had stsrted to develope just last year. It looked like she wasn't going to get any curvier and her breasts seemed like they would stay their large A cup to small B cup, something she only knew about herself from trying on the bras she had decided not to buy.
Gertrude was now well adept at taking on opponents. Having insisted on doing the very exercises Shade was doing had led to the Ralts having a nice firm musculature under her soft skin as well.
Currently she happily skipped along beside Shade and munched on a frozen bunch of berries. Shade had surprised her greatly when she had done that and for the first time Gertrude had looked Shade dead in the eye and stated. "You aren't like other humans, are you."
This frozen treat was packed into an insulated cooler and that marked the official treck they were taking across the desert.
Go goggles be damned. Shade fixed up a pair of makeshift gogfles and they were working. Gertrude simply used her psychic powers for the time being, though she had her own makeshift goggles stashed in her own little bag.
Another development, before they entered their wild training regiment, was the brief stop at a shop where they had collected certain things Shade was certain they would need on their trip. Most of it was survival and hiking equipment, medicine, and stuff she could wear in the warmer climates.
Gertrude ended up picking out a few bracelets and an anklet as well as a ring.
Both wore hats. Gertrude's was big and floppy and had a maroon flower on the side. Shade's was a pith helmet with a cloth underneath that hung over the back of her neck. She wore a thin longsleeve khaki shirt with several pockets and a matching set of pants. Her shoes were old military issue boots from a surplus store.
Gertrude had a set of comfortable wraps that acted like her shoes and kept her feet from burning on the hot sand.
Her little backpack was pink and fuzzy and held a handful of items that were important. She felt important, even though Shade had the heavier load to bear and on several occasions had already given the happy pokemon a lift.
"You need water!" Gertrude said holding up the canteen.
"I need dark, and shad..." She took the canteen after getting a glare from Gertrude. "... and water." She took a small drink and closed it up.
"Berries?" Gertrude asked.
"No, sandstorm coming up." Shade had never ventured into the desert before, the tropics was bad enough, but at least in the forest you weren't being pelted with sand and baked alive in the sun. Worst yet, she knew from the movies and overhearing other trainers, that sand would get everywhere.

"Telekinesis!"
Gertrude sent the bug pokemon flying backwards with a blast of energy. The thing hid well in the sandstorm that raged for the past two days and when it suddenly lifted, the poor bug was no match for the Ralts.
Shade watched as the injured bug sulked off into the mirage and she flopped down next to her partner.
"Okay?"
Gertrude sucked in quick breaths. "Yes!" The fight had been a trying experience. No other opponent had used the environment or weather to hide before. Even when she could sense it was there, she had trouble focusing on the blurry shadow that kept attacking. "I have a lot to learn."
"We both do." Shade put her arm around Gertrude's shoulders and both imediately seperated.
"Too hot!" They both said.
"Water!" Gertrude shoved the third canteen into Shade's hands. "Drink it!" She ordered.
Shade ended up draining the whole container. It joined the other two empty ones and she stare at the last two full ones. "New plan. Travel at night. Maybe some in the morning and evening."
"But the..." She looked around. "Cacturn and Cacnea!" She said only loud enough for Shade to hear.
"When did I start understanding Ralts?" Shade asked choosing to ignore the dark pokemon problem for now.
"Not sure, stop trying to change the subject."
"I'll kick their asses!"
"Language!" Gertrude warned. "I'm just a kid."
"My kid, so talk how you like." Shade groaned out as she huddled closer to the thorny desert plant, seeking shade and yet trying not to get pricked.
In the shade, Shade stripped off her shirt and pants and dug into the sand to have a bit more shelter from any sudden sand storms. Plus, it was cooler in the deeper dirt. She set up a tarp over their hole and Gertrude snuggled up to her.
As night fell, Shade and Gertrude double checked their supplies. They had some jerky and their now thawed berries. Shade had split the flavored water with her partner for a nice little drink as they sat back before rushing the rest of the way to their destination. Wherever that was.

A lone Cacturn scout had literally bumped into them. Shade had several spines imbedded in her arm.
She fended the pokemon off once with a stick but it came back with a few reinforcements. It was hard tracking three opponents that were more intent on getting to Gertrude than dealing with Shade.
She finally felt well enough to exert some energy.
The look on the lead Cacturn's face when Shade blasted him with Icy Wind. The immediate cold damaging the grass type's skin.
The shock of being attacked this way, by a human no less, caused the scout leader to call off the attacks.
"Again. WOW!" Gertrude said a few minutes later as she pulled the barbs from Shade's arm amd stuck cartoon lucario bandaids over each small wound.
"Thank you." Shade said wearily. "No more deserts." She stated.
"But where's the fun in that?" Gertrude teased.

Apparently word got out about the Ralts and strange trainer. They spent an entire day going in circles.
Only when they helped a Sandshrew did they get back on course. And now here they were spread out in the shade and enjoying the cool breeze coming down from the mountains.
"So what moves do you know?" Gertrude asked.
"I have been known to bite. Icy wind. Ice punch. Counter." Shade listed off holding up a finger for each move. "What attacks do you know and what kind will you learn?"
"Growl. Teleport. Confusion. I learned Draining Kiss, but i don't want to kiss nobody."
"Huh, cool! Wait... you should be a Kirlia by now."
"My big sister waited until she learned psychic to evolve." Gertrude mentioned then got quiet. Shade pulled her into her lap and hugged her. They stayed like this for a while just sitting quietly.
After lunch they were once again on their way. Shade found trash on the side of the road and picked it up. Anything recyclable went into the empty food pouch. Then she saw it, a pokeball lying by the road, tape over the button with "broken" scrawled hurridly across it.
Shade picked it up and both knew then it was not a broken ball.
"Pokecenter." Gertrude said with some sadness and pain. "We need to get to a pokecenter."

Shade had managed to find a merchant with a cart. Drawn by a Tauros, Gertrude rode upon it's back and pretended to be a cow poke.
It was rather amusing.
After arriving at the town, Shade realised where they were. "Lava Ridge!" She was not so enthusiastic. The idea of a volcano just right there. Then again, it being in the center of Hoenn also unsettled her.
"Thank you Mister Kiro!" She said hopping from the cart and grabbing up Gertrude. She checked to see if she had the unknown pokeball and ran for the center. She had seen friends of Birch on the video chat visiting the city that she had no hard time finding the center. "It's bigger than the games make it seem." She had mentioned before going through the doors and up to the desk. She ignored the trainers there and luckily this Nurse Joy had recognized her from talks with Birch as well.
She apologised to the trainers Shade had pushed aside, explaining that it really had to be serious if this girl would act like that. Shade didn't catch the whole explanatioms, that was just the gist of it.
She and Gertrude retreated to a lone table and took a seat.
"Can I go in the hot springs?" Gertrude asked before long.
"Sure."
"Come with me?"
"Hot spring. HOT spring." Shade told her. then placed a hand on herself as she said. "Ice type."
"Right." Shade did follow Gertrude into the area. Keeping an eye on her friend was also important.
Gertrude gave her a look. "You're still my responsibility, child. I need to make sure you don't drown."
"I love you too!" Gertrude gave her a brief hug before entering the changing room. This part of the center was much more active, if the steam and heat weren't enough to take her breath away, the scantily clad and naked females were. The little Ralts smiled, waved, chirped happily and admired the bikinis the girls and women were putting on. As she did this she sent Shade mental images of them.
"No old ones!" Shade slipped and mentioned in thought. She clenched her thighs together and felt her embarrasment grow with her arrousal and each mental image the psychic sent her. "Stop it." But there wasn't any authority in the order.
"You like it!" Gertrude turned and gave Shade a sly smile and a wink. Along with Nurse Joy stripping bare, bending over to remove her panties.
"Natural pink..." Shade stood frozen in spot as Gertrude exited the changing room into the springs.
Joy stopped next to her, now clad in a towel. Shade blushed deeply and tried not to stare at Joy's half exposed breasts.
"The Machop you brought in is very lucky that you had found him." Joy said and Shade nodded. "His trainer's cruelty has been reported. I just thought that I would ask if you were keeping him or..." Shade was watching those soft, fleshy orbs bounce as Joy spoke. Apparently she had inadvertently agreed to keep the Machop, her mesmerized nodding mistaken for a nod of yes. Joy pulled Shade into a happy hug. Her face was right in between those soft pillows of flesh and they were silky smooth.
Shade nuzzled into them and only then did Joy catch on. She let go of Shade who stood back and mumbled an apology.
"It's um... FINE... it's fine." Joy was blushing as well. "But I have a... A uh... There is..."
"You're seeing someone." Shade chuckled. Joy nodded. "Can we keep this between us girls?" Joy nodded. "Thank you!" Shade fidgeted a moment. "Could I ask a favor?"
"Yes."
"Watch Gertrude, my little Ralts, for me, please? I don't do well in the heat and it is quite hot in here."
Shade watched from a second floor room as Joy and Gertrude swam in the hot springs. She felt her thoughts drifting back to all those images the wry little psychic had sent her. Her hand began to slip down her body when she was interrupted by an oblivious Chansey.
"Joy?"
"Hot springs." Shade said flatly.
"Thank you!"
Shade nodded and waited until the pokemon was gone. "I bet you're such a pussy blocker." She glared in the direction of the pink pokemon.
Later that night Shade could hear Joy and an unknown woman through the wall. Chansey sat on the end of the bed with Gertrude, the two making paper cutouts while Shade desperately wished she could touch herself.
Gertrude would use the excuse of showing off her string of snowflakes or pokeballs or whatever was new to poke fun at Shade's predicament. Shade had flipped Gertrude off once, but the little pokemon sent her a series of images of the naked girls in the spring, thus making Shade even more uncomfortable.

"Chop."
"He says it doesn't hurt. He just can't see." Gertrude relayed.
"I actually know Machop." Joy informed.
"Oh."
"The bandages are still on." Joy patted Machop's head and he started speaking again.
"He says he..."
"Gertrude, he can speak for himself." Shade gave the Ralts a stern stare.
"Okay." Gertrude huffed.
"She's just excited to have a new addition to our team." Shade told the fighting type pokemon.
"I'm afraid I won't be of any use. I've never won a battle." He looked away from the voices he heard.
"We lost more than we won when we started too." Gertrude said. "Now we beat a bunch of wild pokemon and several trainers, of course they had just started too."
As Gertrude spoke, Joy was removing the bandages and Machop was slowly watching the psychic come into view.
"Practice, practice, practice!" Gertrude stopped talking when Machop's eyes were finally uncovered.
He looked around nervously.
"Sooo pretty!" Gertrude leaned in to get a good look at the vibrant green eyes the Machop was gifted with.
He leaned back away from her and looked at Shade. "What did he trade me for?"
"We found you ball." Gertrude informed.
Machop hung his head. "I didn't think he would really do it." He picked up his ball. "What's that say?" He held it up for the others to see.
"Broken." Gertrude surprised him. "Don't worry, Shade and I will teach you to read."
"Gee, thank's." He stare at the ball, remembering the look of this word.
"What would you like to be called?" Shade asked.
He sighed and ran his thumb over the taped down word. "Why change this now." He tossed Shade his pokeball. "Broken." He said with self depreciation.
Shade thought about it for a bit but was brought out of the thought.
"Aren't you going to recall me? I'd like to be alone right now." He said.
"Ah... okay." Shade felt weird. Gertrude got in and out of her ball whenever she liked. Four times so far. "B-bro... Broken, return."
A red beam drew him in and Shade and Gertrude stare at eachother for a bit.
Then they left the center.
Nurse Joy hugged Chansey. "That's sad."
Chansey nodded in agreement.
