Law woke up the next morning feeling surprisingly refreshed. After all, he had actually woken up, which meant he had successfully been able to catch a few hours of dreamless sleep. He checked his phone which read 6am. He had a few hours before he had to make his way back to the gauntlet that was the hospital.
Raising himself from bed, he changed into a t-shirt and shorts and grabbed a pair of headphones. A run would do his body well. Slamming back an espresso, he ventured out into the quiet streets of Dressrosa.
It was a Sunday morning and the sun had just begun its ascent, casting a gentle warmth over the cobblestone streets. There was a brief respite from the scorching day that would inevitably be ahead of them. Law liked running and working out in general. It kept him in good shape and he took the opportunity to do it whenever he was free of the confines of the hospital. The high he got when he worked out was one of the few things stopping him from losing it.
Law's rhythmic footsteps echoed against the quiet surroundings as he navigated the charming alleys and boulevards. The city was still waking up, with only a few early risers dotting the landscape. Shop shutters were half-open, and the aroma of freshly baked goods wafted from a nearby bakery, tempting Law's senses.
As he jogged, Law took in the architectural beauty of Dressrosa. The pastel-colored buildings with the occasionally checkerboard roof stood as silent witnesses to the city's rich history. Flower boxes adorned window sills, adding a burst of color to the stone facades.
Occasionally, Law passed by locals setting up their market stalls, preparing for the day ahead. Their greetings and nods acknowledged the shared quietude of the morning. The city's iconic clock tower loomed overhead, its ticking marking the passing minutes with a reassuring cadence.
Law's run took him through parks and squares, where the early sunlight dappled the greenery. The sound of a distant fountain provided a soothing backdrop, enhancing the meditative quality of the run.
It was amazing how such a beautiful and tranquil place with seemingly calm and happy people was plagued by a treacherous crime syndicate. On mornings like this, Law could almost convince himself everything was fine. But he wasn't a fool and he had lived in this city long enough to know that wasn't the case and never would be until Doflamingo was gone.
Law returned home after a while and readied himself for work, enjoying the calm morning with another coffee with a book.
Surprisingly, as he left the house Law felt his phone buzz. He wasn't accustomed to getting texts but figured it may be Shachi or Bepo in the group chat ranting about some date they had on Friday. He was pleasantly surprised when he saw "Strawhat".
"Good Morning Torao! I hope you slept well. I had a lot of fun with you yesterday. When is your next day off? If you want to, we can do something together!"
Law started down at his phone. Luffy's presumptuous nature in spending his next day off with Law was amusing. Although he had agreed to see Luffy again, he did not expect him to reach out and make plans so soon. He recalled Luffy's initiative and the surprise he felt when he kissed him last night. Maybe that was just the way he was. Someone who decides they want to do something and just does it. That behavior was so unlike Law's own in so many ways. Well, besides the two times he spontaneously touched Luffy's face and grabbed his hand. That person who took over his body was definitely not him.
He began to feel an incoming internal struggle about if he should actually tell Luffy his next day off and plan to see him. It really wasn't safe for him to get involved with someone. Then he remembered the large anxious eyes that looked up at him when he asked Law to see him again and thought that maybe one time wouldn't hurt. He also had a feeling that if he didn't respond to Luffy, he would simply either call until he answered or show up at the hospital. Law did not need either of those things.
Sighing, he responded "I have off Wednesday if you're available." He responded.
Within moments, his phone buzzed again "Perfect, so am I! Do you like the beach? I haven't gone in so long. We should go!"
Law scoffed. Although he had mainly lived in Dressrosa for over 10 years, he had only been to the beach a handful of times. His home was quite literally on the beach but he barely spent time there and hardly ever ventured down to the shore. After all, what was he going to do, lament his miserable existence to the sea? If he wanted to see the ocean, he would just look out his window.
"Sure. Why don't you meet me at my place? The beach is nearby," He replied, typing out his address as well. The beaches at Law's place were private and devoid of any tourists or riff raff that tended to linger around on the north side.
Law slipped his phone into his pocket and made his way to the hospital. A part of him enjoyed the fact that he had plans to look forward to on his day off for once. But the thoughts were soon dragged away as the chaos ensued at the hospital and the days began to blur together, as they normally did for Law.
–
The days passed equally as fast for Luffy. Out of sheer self-indulgence, Luffy had texted Law and proposed a beach day on Law's next day off. The idea had come to him on his walk home when he passed the sea and realized it had been so long since he had just spent the day in the sun, enjoying the lapping waves and the cool waters.
Of course, the idea of seeing Law without a shirt definitely had nothing to do with it.
It didn't hit him until Tuesday that going to the beach meant that Law would also see him without a shirt, an idea that horrified Luffy. After all, Luffy had a horrific scar spanning the entirety of his chest.
Luffy lay on his living room floor, contemplating how to avoid this situation and came to a conclusion. He just wouldn't take off his shirt. Law probably wouldn't question it. The man didn't ask many questions and didn't seem like the type to press anyone to talk about something that would make them uncomfortable. Plus, it would be weird for him to demand Luffy to take his shirt off when they really didn't know each other all that well.
Luffy imagined Law's lips grazing his ear as he breathed "won't you take it off for me?" in his sultry voice. He flew up from his place on the floor and choked on his spit. There really must be something wrong with him.
Luffy pushed his degenerate thoughts aside and let the day pass uneventfully.
Wednesday arrived and Luffy made his way to Law's with his heart thrumming. He had brought a towel and a small bag of necessities including water and sunscreen. He wore red swim trunks with a black tank top and of course his straw hat which was perfect for a hot beach day.
Luffy's eyes widened as the surroundings transformed, and he found himself in the ritziest part of town. No surprise there, Law being a doctor and all who didn't seem to care much about money, even footing the bill on their last date without a second thought.
Approaching the given address, Luffy was immediately struck with amazement. In front of him stood an elegant white townhouse with expansive windows, a stark contrast to his shabby loft. Law must think he was some sort of poor loser after seeing his palace. What took him by surprise the most was its literal beachfront location. Law said the beach was nearby, not literally his backyard. Luffy mentally scolded himself; Law, with a house right on the beach, likely spent a ton of time by the ocean probably was bored by his suggestion. He wanted to just run away and give up. But he was already here so fuck it.
With a sigh, Luffy texted Law to let him know he had arrived. A few moments later, the breathtaking sight of Law stood before him.
Law sported a pair of blue swim trunks, and, to Luffy's awe, an unbuttoned yellow top. Luffy gawked in amazement, taking in the full view of Law's muscled torso. His eyes trailed down Law's chest and arms, adorned with black lines swirling across his chest, leading down to his toned abdominals. A smiling heart face tattooed on his midriff stared back at Luffy. Gear-shaped circles ran down his arms to his tattooed hands, a familiar sight to Luffy. Over Law's shoulders swung two blue beach chairs.
Law was undeniably attractive. Luffy had acknowledged this fact before, but now, with Law standing shirtless and displaying his tattoos, Luffy truly acknowledged it.
Approaching Luffy with a small smile, Law spoke before Luffy could utter a word. "See something interesting?" The taller man inquired, clearly amused by the evident shock on Luffy's face. Blinking, Luffy composed himself, he had just been standing there like an idiot starting at Law. He blushed at being so blatantly caught staring longer than necessary for a second time.
"Your tattoos are really cool," Luffy replied, offering an idiotic yet sincere response.
"Thanks. I usually get a lot of weird looks when people see them," Law said.
He presented Luffy with a small cooler bag that the younger hadn't even realized he was holding.
"What's this?" Luffy asked, his curiosity piqued by the idea of food.
"I figured you would be hungry so I got you some sandwiches from a deli down the street. I heard they're pretty good." Luffy took the bag with a grin. He couldn't believe Law thought about him enough to bring him food. He must have realized Luffy's passion for food after their last meal together. His heart swelled with appreciation at the thoughtful gesture. It was something one of his friends, especially Sanji, would do.
"Wow, you're the best Torao! I didn't even think about bringing food, thanks!" and without a second thought, he wrapped his arms under his arms and around Law's waist, not caring about the fact that he was squished in between the two chairs Law was holding.
Law was tense in his arms as Luffy squeezed him lightly. He felt Law's muscles tense up but after a second, the tension dissipated and he felt an arm on his back. Luffy breathed in the deliciously musky scent of Law's body before quickly unraveling himself from Law.
"I had no idea you literally lived on the beach. Your house is really pretty too, you must think I live in a barn, huh?" Luffy's embarrassment lingered in his mind and the difference in their lifestyles was so evident now. What that meant, Luffy wasn't sure.
"Nah, it's nothing. The path is over here. Come on." At least Law was humble.
–
The two strolled down the beach path behind Law's house. For the second time, Luffy caught Law off guard with affection, this time in response to the simple gesture of buying sandwiches on a whim during his morning run. Law hadn't thought about food, especially something as shit as bread, but as he passed by a bakery that was putting out its bread for the day he found himself purchasing sandwiches without much thought. Despite his personal hatred for the yeasty medium, Law had a hunch that Luffy would appreciate the baguettes stuffed full of meats and cheeses.
As they walked, Law briefly pondered the sensation of Luffy's arms around his waist and the feeling of the smaller man pulling himself close. Maybe Luffy was just one of those people who really liked physical contact with others, not just him. After all, both when he hugged and kissed Law were for some sort of thanks. Yeah that was it. Just his way of saying thank you. Some people were just like that.
When was the last time he even got a hug? Law realized it was probably from Bepo after an especially shit day. While Law wasn't generally a touchy person, there were moments when Bepo's comforting hugs provided him a warmth that all humans needed from time to time. Law acknowledged that the warmth of human touch, even for someone as reserved as himself, could be surprisingly comforting.
The tree-lined beach path opened up, and Law glanced down at Luffy. He witnessed the younger man's eyes light up as he ran ahead, kicking off his sandals and throwing his arms up, twirling around. Not a person was in sight because it was not only a weekday, but also a private beach. Luffy probably didn't notice that fact of course.
"Wow, so nice!" Luffy exclaimed, his laughter filling the air as he spun. Law picked up the abandoned sandals and observed the scene. In that moment, Luffy resembled a carefree child, and Law felt an unexpected warmth in his chest, recalling his sister's similar reaction to the beach. He never imagined meeting someone who embraced the simple pleasures of life the way Luffy did. The sorrow he had momentarily glimpsed in Luffy's eyes before was overshadowed by the joyous expression displayed before him.
Luffy also discarded his bag, and Law grabbed it with a huff, feeling like a parent collecting their child's belongings as he made his way to the shoreline to set up their spot for the day.
After placing the chairs, Law gazed at the shoreline. Luffy stood in the water, waves lapping at his ankles, the straw hat resting on his back, and the wind playing with his dark locks. His eyes gazed toward the sea, and a solemn expression replaced the radiant laughter from moments ago. It was like he was looking at a totally different person.
Law was captivated by the sight as he moved to Luffy's side in silence. He peered down at Luffy and was met with a melancholy expression, the boy gazing ahead and not making eye contact.
"What are you thinking about?" Law asked, the words slipping from his lips. He made it a point not to pry in other's lives but the expression on Luffy's face sparked such an unusual curiosity in him.
"I grew up by the sea with my brothers. I was just thinking about how much I missed them." Luffy replied solemnly.
Law allowed a few seconds to pass before responding "Do you see them often?" Law asked. From the expression he saw before him, he had an aching feeling that Luffy's brothers were not just simply living their lives elsewhere.
"No. My one brother, Ace, died. The other, Sabo... He went missing and everyone says he's dead. But I know he must be out there somewhere staring at the same sea I am." Law was not surprised by Luffy's response but found himself feeling saddened by the weight that statement held. Law's gut was rarely wrong. He had expected that Luffy was hiding his own demons but he didn't want his assumption to be correct. Luffy should be able to experience the unadulterated joy he displayed earlier every day. Law had found that fate was a selfish lover. It often took, and rarely gave anything but despair in return. He knew the grief of losing family members all too well.
He brought the hand that was lingering at the small of Luffy's back around his shoulder, pulling Luffy's smaller frame to his side, and gave him a small squeeze. He didn't really know how to comfort someone properly. This would have to do.
"I'm sorry to hear that." He stated simply. He wasn't going to elaborate or tell Luffy it would be okay. Everyone dealt with their losses differently, Law was no stranger to that fact. Law's empathy would not change the harsh reality.
"Thank you, Torao. I'm glad to be here with you today." It was then Luffy finally met Law's eyes with a pensive gaze and they let the moment pass, the waves lapping at their feet.
"How about you go try those sandwiches out?" Law said after a moment, wanting to shift the gloomy aura that hung above both of them after that serious moment. With the mention of food, Luffy's eyes lit up and he dragged himself out of Law's grasp, running toward the chairs with a hungry expression. Law stood there bemused. The conflicted boy was so mysterious and yet so easy to figure out. He really was like a child sometimes.
Before Law could sit down, Luffy lounged in the adjacent chair with the sandwich already unwrapped and between his lips. The fresh baguette was filled with a variety of deli meats as well as cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
Luffy let out a muffled groan as he devoured the large sandwich. "Thi-ish is sooo goood Torao" He exclaimed between bites, his cheeks filled like a squirrel.
"Don't talk while you're eating, you're going to choke." Law grumpily replied. He would of course save Luffy if he choked but it was his day off and he really didn't want to have to think about providing medical attention.
"You want some?" Luffy offered him a piece of the second sandwich that he was now unwrapping, the first one demolished in the blind of an eye.
"I hate bread. I got both for you, I figured you would want more than one. You do eat a lot." Law started at the yeasty concoction with disgust. Luffy looked up at him with bewilderment.
"How do you hate bread? You're so weird Torao. Oh well, more for me." True to his word, Luffy shrugged and devoured the other baguette with pleasure.
–
Luffy polished off the delicious meat-filled sandwich with ease. Although Law didn't like bread, he certainly picked out an amazing sandwich for Luffy. Luffy hummed with pleasure and glanced at the man next to him. Law was so funny. He could be so thoughtful and kind while simultaneously being grumpy and demanding. Luffy liked interesting people and Law piqued his interest.
He had allowed himself to momentarily get caught up in the moment when he first saw the ocean and all that it meant to him and his brothers. The last time he had been at the shore was when he met Ivankov and contemplated ending his own life. But now he was here with Torao, who let him express his feelings without asking questions and providing him a small comfort that Luffy hadn't experienced since Ace's death. Law didn't apologize or ask questions. He just let Luffy share his thoughts aloud before pulling him back to reality with the mention of food. But he wasn't here to dwell on his emotions, he was here to spend time with Law.
Law was every person's dream guy, with his dark hair blowing in the sea breeze. His eyebrows were furrowed in frustration as usual, but his eyes were soft as he attentively observed Luffy with his face resting on his palm and a warning not to choke. Part of Luffy wanted to choke just so Law would give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He almost actually choked on his sandwich at that thought. Luffy finished his food and licked his fingers.
"Let's go swim!" Luffy abruptly decided, longing for the feeling of the water on his skin. He jumped up and grabbed Law by the hand that was resting on his cheek and jerking him forward out of his chair. Law's face showed his surprise as he stumbled forward.
"You just ate! Jesus Christ. Go sit back down for a few minutes," Law cursed as he was pulled along. Luffy, legs entering the water, turned to Law with a mischievous grin.
"Make me." He demanded, sticking out his tongue before turning around again and diving into the sea. He emerged and was greeted by a bewildered Law standing above him.
"If you drown, I'm not saving you." He replied simply, crossing his arms in irritation. Luffy chuckled and shook his hair like a wet dog. He knew Law would in fact save him.
Luffy flopped onto his back, letting the small waves lap his back. Dressrosa was in a tropical area and as such, the waves were very small and the waters were a beautiful shade of cerulean. The tropical trees waved in the welcome breeze and the birds chirped above them. Not a person was in sight and to Luffy it was the perfect day.
"Don't be so lame, Torao!" Luffy grinned, letting peace exist too long was not in his nature. And so, he jumped up from the water high enough to grab Law by the wrist, pulling him forward into the water. Law, once again caught off guard by the lack of stability, tumbled face first into Luffy.
Law fell into Luffy abruptly, his arms immediately reaching out to brace his fall on either side of Luffy. He raised his head, dark hair dripping with sea water.
"Are you stupid? You could have seriously injured both of us!" Law yelled at him. Luffy simply laughed. He knew he was being foolish by pulling down by his leg, but he couldn't resist the idea of making Law let go of his endless worries for a second. His surprised face was so funny.
He looked up in awe at the view before him. Law's arms barricaded him and he could feel his hurried breaths on his cheeks. Water droplets dripped down his perfectly shaped jawline through neat facial hair.
"Yep! I knew if I got hurt you would save me Dr. Torao" He purred out the syllables in -rao with a mischievous grin and pressed a kiss against Law's lips, supplying only a momentary tease before swimming backwards out from under him into the shallow waters. Law's gaze followed him and just by looking at him, Luffy knew he had won. Law just stared at him with his mouth open. Messing with Law was so fun when he got reactions like this.
With a sigh, Law stood up and removed himself to the shoreline, sitting down and watching Luffy with an expression that Luffy could only describe as what a cat looks like after you try to give it a bath. Luffy let him sulk as he hummed while flipping onto his back and floating around, savoring the quiet lull of the sea.
–
Law gazed at the sight before him with a strange combination of fondness and irritation. Luffy just did not listen to fucking anything. He just did whatever he wanted, whenever. He had realized this fact almost immediately and irked Law to no end. He was so used to the people surrounding him being obedient, complying with his demands both in and out of the surgical room. Luffy's carefree and irrational personality would never listen, he concluded.
He thought back to moments before when the younger leaped out of his chair, dragging Law with him, diving into the water, pulling him down with him. Luffy was like a fucking tornado and Law was just debris being torn apart as he passed by. If that wasn't enough, he once again caught Law by surprise with a kiss, before slipping away. He felt like a cat with one of those stupid feather toys. Law began to feel like he was being victimized here.
The brief ghost of Luffy's lips on his own made Law even more irritated. If he had it his way, he would have shown him what a proper fucking kiss looked like just out of pure spite. He didn't enjoy being toyed with and clearly Luffy was having fun doing so.
Law sighed as he reclined onto his elbows. Luffy was still wearing his now soaked red tank top in the water, which Law found slightly odd but didn't really question it. Luffy was all over the place and just probably didn't think about taking it off. After all, he leaped out of his chair without a second thought. Maybe he was insecure with his body. From what Law had seen of his clothed figure, Luffy was lean and definitely wasn't sporting a stomach or anything. Whatever, not his business.
This guy really might kill him, he concluded. But as he sat there, watching Luffy float on his back with his eyes shut, he realized that once he pushed aside his irritation, he felt content with his surroundings. The looming cloud of darkness that followed him for entire life had let up for a moment and it felt like the sun had finally come out after a long storm.
Of course, Law realized he was sorely mistaken when a thick drop of rain hit his shoulder. Are you fucking kidding me. The irony was too good. His eyes moved skyward as thick gray clouds began to quickly move in. Naturally, the second Law felt some form of contentment, the universe rained on his parade - literally.
"Luffy, it's raining." he called out to the floating one, hoping he could hear him. Luffy's eyes blinked open and he swam to shore and stood up, shaking off his wet hair like a dog.
"Aww, really? I didn't think it was going to rain today... That's so lame." His disappointed expression was clear and Law felt bad as it looked like he really was enjoying himself.
Before Law could reach their things to gather them with Luffy following close behind, the clouds began dropping harsh raindrops on both of their skin.
"Come on, let's go back to my place and get out of the rain." Law told Luffy and quickly grabbed their chairs. Luffy's straw hat hung on the back of the seat and Law grabbed it, pressing it onto Luffy's wet hair. Luffy stared up at him surprised, before affectionately grabbing the hat and pulling it down further with a smile.
A few minutes later and now soaked to the bone by both rain and sea, the duo arrived in Law's apartment. They stood dripping on the carpets in the foyer, which irritated him immensely. He made a mental note to clean that up later.
"You should shower and warm up. Let me grab you a towel." Law disappeared momentarily, returning with a large fluffy towel, guiding Luffy to the first floor guest bathroom he just emerged from.
"Use this one. There's soaps and shampoo inside. I'm going to go shower upstairs quickly, I'll be back before you're done." Law commanded, shutting the door before Luffy had a chance to respond and somehow find a way to not listen to Law.
Law let the warm water rush over his skin, appreciating the respite from the sudden rainstorm. He wasn't sure what exactly he was going to do with Luffy in his home, but he couldn't just allow him to go home right now in such a heavy storm. These sudden torrential downpours were commonplace in Dressrosa, with the tropical climate being often unpredictable. Even if he had checked the weather, which he had guessed Luffy did not, storms like this were often not even listed on the reports.
He had promised Luffy he would be done before him so he turned off the faucet and exited the shower. Law also wasn't in the mood to be alone with his thoughts. He had a feeling they would begin to wander needlessly. He made his way to his bedroom, pulling on the first pair of sweatpants he could find, foregoing looking for a shirt, he had already been shirtless for the entire day and Luffy seemed to enjoy that fact given his stares. He quickly grabbed clothes for Luffy (including a shirt) he guessed the boy didn't think far ahead enough to bring extras. His clothes would likely be big on Luffy but he would have to make do.
Law made his way down to the first floor guest bathroom. At the same time he approached, Luffy exited the door. His hair was dripping and a towel was draped around his waist. He turned to face Law.
"Umm, Torao, do you have any extra clothes? I forgot to bring some." Of course Law was right. Luffy's question hung in the air, and as Law observed the now-exposed frame before him, all the air seemed to vacate his lungs. There, Luffy stood dripping with a towel slung around his hips. But that was not what shocked Law. It was the fact that etched across Luffy's chest, was a large scar in the shape of an X.
Time felt suspended, and Law's mind whirled in a maelstrom of disbelief. It couldn't be. Despite the countless surgeries he had performed over life as a surgeon, there were few etched as vividly in his memory as the one conducted in Marineford. A young boy, shattered by the loss of his brother, had attempted suicide while under police watch.
"It's you..." Law breathed, his gaze fixed on the figure before him. Luffy stared back with wide eyes, clearly perplexed by Law's cryptic statement.
"What do you mean, Torao? Do we know each other from somewhere?" Luffy inquired, tilting his head with an observant gaze. Before Law could restrain himself, he moved closer to Luffy, lightly pressing his finger to the chest, tracing the X-shaped scar. He felt Luffy's body tense and shiver beneath his touch.
Fuck. It was still huge. Law was known for his exemplary handiwork but there were some cases where good stitching was for naught. The ex-patient that stood before him was one of those cases.
"This is my work. I did this." he breathed. Luffy's brow furrowed, his expression clearly confused. Calling Luffy's scar his work was definitely not the proper way to phrase it but Law was too dumbstruck to even think. It's not like he could say oh this is the scar from when you tried to kill yourself, right off the bat.
"Wh-what do you mean?" Luffy replied in confusion. He stepped back from Law against the wall and Law immediately felt guilty at touching the scar without permission.
"You were at Marineford." he explained and Luffy's eyes widened as his breath hitched.
Law's blood-stained, tarnished hands had been inside Luffy's body. He had demanded he stay in this world. He made the decision to force Luffy to live after he chose to end it and now here he was right in front of his eyes. The universe really fucking had it out for him.
Law was only working in the hospital at Marineford by sheer happenstance. He had been placed there on a job while working for the Joker Gang who wanted intel on the Marines who resided in the city. One night, a police officer carried the limp body of a boy into the emergency room. He remembered the man's pleas to save him.
Law was numb to blood and gore, he had been for pretty much his whole life, having practiced medicine as long as he could remember. But there was something about this young boy who dragged a knife so harshly across his own flesh that stuck with Law. At the time, he had tried to analyze just how the hell someone had inflicted such a wound on themselves. He concluded that the boy must have forced the knife in deep once on the right side before pulling it out and harshly slicing across the rest of their chest, his epidermal layer protecting most of his vital organs. He supposed Luffy may have not realized where his heart was at that moment. How such a small boy was lucid after the excruciating pain of the first entrance and exit continue, Law did not know. It must have been adrenaline.
Fortunately for Luffy, or unfortunately depending on how you looked at it, it was not a life-threatening wound. Part of that was due to the fact that he was found immediately and the police officer who brought him in was capable of immediate life-saving first aid. Although the external wound was extremely gruesome, the internal damage was not as bad as it could have been. If he recalled that the surgery was mostly liver laceration repairs with vascular trauma. Luffy's injuries were absolutely life-threatening but it could have been so, so much worse. Law knew better than anyone how much worse it could truly get. Of course, it must have taken multiple months to recover nonetheless. He wasn't discounting the seriousness of the injury, he was just too numb to these types of things.
Law had visited Luffy once after this surgery. This in itself was unusual, since he didn't generally attend to patients after they left the operating room. However, a few days later, Law found that his feet took him to the boy's room on their own. He stood in the doorway and wondering what the fuck happened to make this kid do such a thing. He knew that the road ahead would be rough for him. He had hoped that in time he would get through it and wouldn't end up back here. He quietly watched the boy's chest rise and fall, his body wrapped in bandages. He looked peaceful now, but who knew how he would feel once he realized he was still alive.
Although Law had never tried to end his own life, many times throughout his life he had contemplated the quickest way to make the pain end. The scalpel in his hand had just made it feel too easy. He guessed what he felt at that moment in the hospital was empathy, a deeper connection, one of someone who understood what it meant to stand on the edge, wanting to end it all.
Law snapped back to reality. Now was not the time to get lost in his flashbacks.
"How do you know about that?" Luffy was struggling to process which was understandable. He looked like a deer in headlights.
"I operated on you, Luffy. You... tried to kill yourself after your brother died." Once again, he did not have a way with words. He couldn't figure out a better way to put it so he just simply said the truth. It was best to be straightforward with Luffy so he understood properly.
Luffy fell to his knees, towel barely covering his waist, arms limp at his side. His eyes were as large as saucers as he stared up at Law.
"No... There's no way..." He replied. Law understood that must have been a terrible period of time in Luffy's life. Law had only visited Luffy that one time and he was unconscious. They had never truly interacted and of course Luffy would not remember him, in fact Luffy's identity was only unveiled when he saw his scar.
"I'm so sorry, Luffy." He couldn't articulate why he was apologizing. He was just sorry. Sorry Luffy had to go through the pain, sorry the world was so fucking cruel, sorry he played god and caused Luffy to live when maybe he didnt want to, sorry it had to be him who Luffy met again.
His emotions were swirling. He found himself feeling angry. He wanted to fucking destroy the person who killed Luffy's brother. The one who caused this pain. Fuck these cruel murderers who just took and took from everyone without care of the people who loved their victims. His fists were balled, his body was shaking in anger.
It was Luffy's sob that grounded him. He brought himself to his knees and wrapped his arms around the small frame of his newly discovered former patient. Luffy pulled himself closer, wrapping his arms around Law's back, the agonizing sobs leaving his body.
"It's okay. I'm here. You're not alone." He coddled Luffy and provided him with as much comfort as he could supply, rocking him back and forth slowly.
"I-just-it was so hard... I've just been so alone." Luffy sobbed. Law patted his back.
"Shh... I know. It's okay." Law whispered calmly. Luffy looked up at him and his heart broke.
Before he could comprehend what was happening, soft lips pressed against his arms harshly pushing him down onto the hardwood, his back and head hitting the floor with a bang. Ow. He tasted the salt of Luffy's tears on his tongue with a small gasp. What was Luffy doing? This was wrong. He needed to stop the man but he couldn't. His head hurt. He didn't know what the fuck was going on. He returned the kiss thrust upon him and it was electrifying. Luffy's tongue pressed against his lips, demanding more. He allowed it, parting his lips as Luffy's tongue began to explore his mouth. Fuck. This was their first kiss. A real kiss. Luffy's hands released him and grabbed him by the back of his head, pulling him closer. Law's arms, now freed, slithered up Luffy's back.
Luffy teeth bit down on Law's lip and Law groaned as their tongues continued their heated battle. Luffy's thighs squeezed against his own. Law's nails dragged down Luffy's back and Luffy moaned, vibrating into Law's mouth as he perched on top of him. Everything felt hot and he could barely breathe. He was hard. He couldn't help himself given the situation. He felt like he was losing his mind. Luffy was devouring him and damn did it feel good. Luffy was hard too, Law could feel it through the thin material of his sweatpants, Luffy's towel pushed aside somewhere. It wasn't until he felt Luffy's hips, grinding down against his length, that the reality of the situation crashed over him.
"Luffy... Stop. We need to talk about this" He wrapped his arms around Luffy's hips and pulled them back up into a seated position. Both gasped for air. Law looked at Luffy and it was as if he was seeing him for the first time. Luffy's chest rose and fell harshly, his eyes were bloodshot, tears streaking down his red cheeks. How could something so wrong feel so fucking good? Stop. Stop. Stop. His mind screamed, but his body wanted nothing more than to throw Luffy to the floor and fuck him senseless.
"Law..." Law's heart leaped in his chest as Luffy said his name between heaved breaths. "Help me. I... I need to feel something. I need you."
Fuck.
It was as if Luffy read his mind. He knew what he wanted and wanted the same. Even through his swirling mind and lust-filled goggles, Law knew that this situation was fucked up. He had just told Luffy that he saved his life after he fucking tried to kill himself. There was nothing more insane than this.
But Luffy wanted him. He needed him to provide him with pleasure. So Law threw his logic out the window. He wanted to tear the demons out of Luffy. To slice them to pieces and burn their corpses until there was nothing left. To take away the pain. And he wanted to feel too. It had been so long since he fucking felt something, anything. The battle of reason and desire raged within him, the beautiful, erotic sight before him cracking open the restraints he had placed on himself his entire life.
And like that, Law's mind was made up. It was now or never. He could regret his decision later.
"Okay, I'll make you feel good." Law breathed and grabbed the back of Luffy's head hard, pulling him into another heated kiss. He wrapped Luffy's arms around his neck and grabbed Luffy's ass in one swift motion standing up. Luffy's legs instinctually wrapped around his waist to prevent himself from falling and his grip tightened. Their lips battled for supremacy as Law pressed Luffy's back into the wall, Luffy's bare length grinding against his chest. Luffy groaned at the contact and Law grinned into his lips
"You like that?" He breathed.
"Yes...Torao." Luffy hummed into his lips, intensifying the kiss further, running his tongue across the top of Law's mouth. He needed more. He wrapped his arms tighter around the lithe frame of the other, carrying them to the living room and pressing Luffy's back onto the plush couch, Luffy's wet hair droplets glistened in the light as he broke the kiss and stared at the sight before him.
"Fuck, you're so hot," Law growled. The sight before him was like a painting. The raven-haired man was on full display, completely naked, his throbbing cock pressed against his stomach. His eyes were clouded with need and he breathed hard, lips parted.
He was in a situation unlike anything he had encountered before. In his grasp was Luffy, half-crying, lustfully throwing himself into Law's arms asking to make him feel. And damn it if Law himself didn't feel something at that moment.
Law was still conflicted. The angelic logical part of his brain made him comprehend that he was dealing with a trauma patient of his own who was extremely confused and going through an emotional breakdown.
The other half of Law's brain, the lustful devilish side, acknowledged the request of the beautiful man who had begun to worm his way into Law's heart so quickly and easily that it scared him. The one who did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. The one who caught Law off guard with his kisses, and astounded him at every turn. The one who begged him to take him right then and there.
And so, Law gave into the devil and dove off the deep end. He grabbed Luffy's shoulders and held him firmly, pressing his lips to Luffy's neck. He licked the sensitive skin delicately before running his teeth across it, biting hard and earning a low moan from Luffy that permeated his entire being. His mouth continued down and he pressed suckling kisses and bites down to Luffy's collarbone where he pressed his face and breathed the scent of his own soap.
Although Law gave into his demons, he was still Law and still a logical, sane person. He lifted his head to look down at Luffy who was panting with wide eyes. The sight was enough to not wait for permission.
"Do you want me to keep going?" He questioned Luffy who took in a gulp of air before saying exactly what Law wanted to hear "Don't stop."
Law compiled, his tongue dragging down further, to the sensitive peak of Luffy's nipple. He brushed his tongue over the lump twirling around it before slowly sucking. Luffy let out a stifled cry, bringing a hand to his lips and attempted to stifle it. Law grabbed his wrist hard, stopping him.
"Don't cover your mouth. I want to hear you moan for me." He commanded and bit down on Luffy's nipple and Luffy complied, moaning loudly into his mouth. He felt his cock twitch as the sound rang through his ears.
Luffy was so incredibly sensitive and his reactions aroused a sense of desire that Law had never experienced before. He rocked his hips against Luffy's, the contact driving him crazy.
"Torao... More... Please" Luffy panted as Law looked up at him once again. Fuck he thought. He felt like he would unravel here and now under Luffy's aroused gaze. He needed to feel him around his cock and give him what he was begging for.
Law pulled himself out from Luffy's arms and thighs and immediately felt Luffy tense up at the lack of contact.
"Toaro? Where are you going? Don't leave me, please." Luffy begged. The fear mixed with desire made Law want to pounce on him then and there, take him raw and quick. Although drunk with lust, he wasn't a savage.
"Only for a second, I promise I'll be back. Need lube." He promised with a quick kiss to Luffy's lips.
Law made his way up his steps to his room, skipping stairs as he went when and grabbed a bottle of long-forgotten lube and condoms out of his bedside table. Dazed, he returned as fast as he could to his living room. He didn't necessarily want to do this on his fucking couch but as he peered down at Luffy, gasping for breath and still erect, he realized that he didn't have the patience to go anywhere else. He needed to touch Luffy, now. Needed to make him feel good and take the pain away.
Law pressed down against Luffy against Luffy, capturing his lips. "Told you I'd be back" he murmured.
He snaked a hand between their bodies and grasped Luffy's cock, tracing a finger down its length. Luffy groaned into Law's mouth as Law massaged into the tip, precum forming. He felt Luffy twitching, begging for more. So he complied, his hands wrapping around the base as gave him a few slow pumps. Luffy's head fell back and he let out a low groan.
"That feel good?" a fox-like grin spread over Law's lips but Luffy couldn't see it, his eyes lulled shut, biting his lip. He looked so fucking vulnerable before Law, legs spread open and cock leaking just for him.
"Fuck... Torao..." Luffy moaned as he jerked him off, his strokes speeding up ever so slightly, turning into a rhythm that had Luffy's hips bucking against Law's hand. Law removed his hand and Luffy whined.
"Don't worry, I'll make you feel even better." He promised, reaching for the lube and clicking the cap open, letting the cold substance run down his hand. He pressed his lips to Luffy's as he spread his legs further. He pressed his index finger against Luffy's tight entrance. Luffy groaned and his eyes flew open, his gaze permeating right into Law's soul.
Law began thrusting his finger, loosening as Luffy twitched under his touch. He added another tattooed finger into place "EA'' appearing as he continued pressing into Luffy. Fuck he was so tight. Law wanted so much to pull his fingers out and thrust into him right then and there. But Law knew he was big and he didn't want to hurt Luffy, as much as he might enjoy the pain in his currently unstable mental state. He would do it right and would make it good.
He kept up his movement, adding a third finger. Luffy whined. Law grabbed his cock and stroked it to distract him from the pain. It worked as Luffy's hole loosened around his fingers.
Luffy unraveled below him, his head lolling back in pleasure and his lips open and gasping. fingernails dragging hard down the entirety of Law's back. He removed the hand that was stroking his length and made sure he didn't hit Luffy's prostate, he didn't want him to come yet.
"If you want to stop, you tell me now." Law growled, his body throbbing with need as he pulled his fingers out of Luffy's twitching hole. If Luffy wanted to take back his request, he would have to do it at this moment. His cock had been abandoned and aching while gave Luffy his full attention. Law couldn't hold back much longer but he wasn't going to do this without consent.
"Keep going... I need you." Luffy moaned, music to his ears.
"Are you ready?" Law breathed into Luffy's mouth.
"Please... Fuck me, Torao." Luffy begged. Law grabbed him harshly by the chin, forcing him to look him straight in the eye.
"When I fuck you, you call me by my name, got it?" He commanded hard. He didn't necessarily mind Luffy's stupid nickname for him but he needed to hear Luffy moaning for him and him alone. Hearing him call him Torao was pissing him off.
"Okay." Luffy squeaked.
Law placed one hand on Luffy's hip and guided himself towards his entrance. He pushed himself in slowly and felt the warmth envelop him.
"Shit, you're so tight." He groaned. He allowed Luffy to adjust to the new feeling before he slowly pushed deeper. Luffy whined.
"It's okay, it'll feel good in a second" Law purred, nibbling on Luffy's ear.
Luffy felt so fucking good around him. He held back for a second, not wanting Luffy to rip before he even got started. He felt the tension in his body dissipate slightly, and began slowly pushing deeper into Luffy until he was fully inside. He gasped at the pleasure of being sheathed to the hilt.
"Are you okay? I'm going to move now." Law advised Luffy who only nodded, mouth agape. Law bucked his hips. Fuck. Luffy felt so tight and so unexpectedly right. This new feeling was addicting and Law needed more. He began thrusting, allowing the pleasure to flow through his body.
Law brought his hands to Luffy's back as he lifted him and into a seated position, bringing his face parallel to Law's as he pushed even deeper into him. Luffy moaned in unadulterated pleasure as Law gave himself better access and kept going.
"You're so fucking perfect," Law praised as he brought his lips up to meet Luffy's neck again, switching the pace and giving him a few agonizingly slow and deep thrusts. Luffy moaned and Law sped up again, finding Luffy's hips surprisingly meeting his own as his thighs squeezed Law like a vice. Luffy breathed heavily into his mouth, soft moans escaping his lips.
"Laww..." He groaned his name, drawling the -aw just as he had done the first time he had called him by his real name and Law felt his himself twitch inside Luffy. Finally he fucking listened to something Law told him. This Luffy was his favorite yet, submissive and panting as he writhed on his cock.
"Tell me what you want, baby." He grabbed Luffy by the back of his neck and his hips bucked up into Luffy.
"More please Law, more." Luffy begged. Any thoughts Law had in his mind were gone. He unhooked his arm from Luffy's waist and pulled out fast, the cold air hitting Law's cock, which yearned for Luffy. He flipped the younger man onto his stomach with ease, pressing Luffy's down as he pulled his hips up. He thrust back into Luffy deep and hard, and Luffy let out a dry scream. There we go. Law grinned. He found Luffy's prostate.
"Did I find your spot? Be a good boy and I'll make you cum with just my cock." Luffy groaned and arched his back more, giving Law even better access to his sweet spot.
Law did as he promised and increased his pace, fingers digging deep into Luffy's hip and he struck Luffy's prostate over and over. His ears rang with Luffy's rhythmic cries which were like the best song he had ever heard as he thrust into him hard and deep as Luffy tightened around him. Luffy was close and so was he.
"I'm gonna cum." He alerted Luffy as he continued their fast and loud pace, the slapping of their skin echoing through the room. The reality hit him that although he had brought condoms, they lay unused on the floor. He was an idiot. As a doctor he should have known better.
"Fill me up." Luffy moaned and those words sent him over the edge, too far gone to do anything but comply with his demand. With one more deep thrust, his mind turned to mush as he came hard. Luffy tightened around his twitching cock as he moaned out Law's name and released himself under Law while he rode out his own orgasm.
Luffy collapsed into the couch and Law went with him, pressing his face into Luffy's neck, breathing in the scent of sweat and his still-wet hair and they both tried to catch their breath.
Law sat up and turned Luffy to face him. He was not prepared for the sight before him. He had thought Luffy looked beautiful before, but it was nothing like he looked now. His face was streaked with tears, this time from pleasure instead of pain, his eyes lulled with a pleasure only experienced post orgasm.
"Is that better?" Law wrapped his arms around the trembling figure and kissed his forehead.
"Yeah, so much. Thank you." Luffy breathed into Law's chest. An overwhelming feeling of guilt sweeped over Law. He wanted so much to remain in his blissful state but the reality of the situation weighed heavily on his shoulders. He had slept with Luffy and it was amazing. Now he had to figure out what the hell he was going to do about it.
–
Luffy's mind raced a thousand miles an hour. He lay in Law's arms, his face pressing against the tattooed chest. What the fuck did he just do. His emotions were clouded, a mix of euphoria, anxiety, and confusion.
He listened to the sound of their shared labored breathing as Law held him close. The vibration of his voice broke him away from his spinning head a few seconds later.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Law questioned softly, the kindness in his voice so unlike the harsh tone he had only a few minutes ago as he was commanding Luffy to say his name while he fucked him. He knew he had to explain himself. They had to talk about this. But he needed to compose himself before he could even fathom talking to Law.
"Can... Can I have a few minutes by myself to think?" He asked Law. Law nodded, sitting up and unraveling himself from Luffy's embrace and eyeing him with an undeniably concerned expression. He felt guilty pushing Law away but he needed to organize his thoughts and figure out what the hell was going on with him.
"If that's what you need. I'll be upstairs. Call if you need me. I'll come back in a few minutes" Law pressed a tender kiss to Luffy's forehead and his chest tightened. He felt a soft blanket float over his body, covering him from the cold. Law was too kind, knowing just what Luffy wanted without him saying a word. Luffy really didn't deserve that right now.
He heard Law's footsteps dissipate up the stairs as he curled into the softness, watching as the harsh raindrops pelted the windows which framed the darkened sky. He breathed in through his nose and out through his mouth, trying to calm his pacing heart and began to collect his thoughts.
Law knew everything. He knew about Ace. He knew about his attempt to end his own life. He knew. In that moment that they locked eyes, Law became the only person in the world besides Officer Jinbe who actually understood what Luffy had gone through. And that fucking terrified Luffy. He was so consigned to the fact that he would deal with his emotions alone until if or when he met Sabo again. His plan to just bottle his grief up and keep it to himself was shattered.
He now had a choice to make. Would he share more with Law and let him into the abyss? Law himself confused Luffy more than ever. His gentle touches as he consoled him turned so demanding and harsh but shit, Luffy loved it. He had never experienced anything close to the pleasure that Law gave him and he found himself feeling empty without Law's presence, even as the warmth inside him dripped down his thigh. Luffy didn't even know that sex could feel like that. In his shattered mental state, he asked Law to make him feel and he knew what that entailed but he couldn't have predicted that Law would have him writhing underneath him, coming from just his cock like a depraved animal.
But maybe he just felt bad for him. Pity was also motivator for people and Luffy quite literally threw himself into Law's arms and begged him to fuck him. After all, Law had literally seen Luffy half-dead. He was the one who brought him back in the first place. Luffy wondered what he thought of him. Did he think Luffy was a fool for doing something as selfish as trying to take his own life?
Luffy observed the violent sea before him that was so gentle and peaceful earlier. He related to it, it felt like his day had gone the same way. A picturesque scene of him and Law spending the day on the beach had somehow turned into a dark realization followed by harsh yet passionate sex.
Luffy momentarily contemplated the fact that he did in fact basically force himself upon the doctor in a moment of despair. Had Law even wanted him like that? Although Law had initiated a few gentle touches in the brief times they had met, Luffy was the one to initiate their brief embraces and kisses.
He wanted you just as bad as you wanted him. Luffy's mind assured him. Law had asserted himself, demanded, and dominated Luffy. He recalled his lusty expressions and his awe-struck face as he stared down at Luffy, telling him how perfect he was. Law had given him everything he asked for and demanded so little in return. He pampered Luffy, kissing and suckling him, fingering and fucking him without Luffy doing so much as touch him in return. Luffy realized that perhaps he was the selfish one here.
Law broke him out of his train of thought, his form appearing before him in the darkness. They were clearly distracted when they entered the living room and hadn't bothered to turn on the lights. Luffy was unaware of the time and the gloomy gray skies didn't reflect how long it had been.
"Do you need more time?" Law asked quietly as he stood over him.
"No." Luffy murmured.
"Come here." Law commanded, kneeling down as he reached and placed his arms under Luffy, now carrying him bridal style. "We're going upstairs." he advised as he carried Luffy up a flight of stairs he hadn't noticed earlier.
Luffy, though initially caught off guard, was not surprised at the ease with which Law picked him up. He had lifted him against the wall and he had manipulated Luffy with such ease earlier. Law was pretty strong. Luffy wrapped his arms around his neck and snuggled into Law's pectoral muscles. He noticed that Law didn't quite meet his gaze. Maybe he was mad at him. He had a right to be.
Law carried him into what appeared to be his bedroom before entering a connecting bathroom. A steaming bath lay in the middle of the large marbled room. Law placed him down on his feet, and Luffy wobbled, surprisingly unsteady as pain ran through his body. Law grounded him with a hand.
"Get in." Law again demanded and Luffy complied wordlessly, letting himself sink into the blissfully hot water with a quiet hiss as it burned his body ever so slightly. To his surprise, Law nudged him forward and slid in behind him, wrapping his tattooed arms around Luffy's midsection. Luffy leaned back into the comforting embrace, happy to be held by Law again.
"Smells good..." Luffy breathed in the scents that drifted around him.
"It's a combination of epsom salt and lavender. Epsom salt is good for muscles and lavender helps calm the nervous system. Seemed like you might need both." Law explained, almost robotically. Luffy lay there for a moment, letting his eyes fall shut. He was tired and Law's voice was soothing.
"Do you want to talk now?" Law questioned, bringing a hand up run along the tips of his wet hair.
Luffy opened his eyes. He had to make a decision that would likely change the trajectory of Luffy's life and his relationship with Law. Would he run away and continue with his solitude, dealing with his pain alone, or would he confide in Law, someone who already knew what he had gone through and showed him such genuine compassion?
"Yeah... I just don't know where to start. What do you want to know?" Luffy took the leap of faith. His life since he had come to Dressrosa had been filled with him telling himself he had nothing to lose. Now he would find out if that was true.
"Why did you do it?" Law asked, the question bringing goosebumps to Luffy's skin. He didn't think that he would ask him so deep right out of the gate, but Law didn't seem to mince words.
He contemplated. Why did he do it? After months of dealing with grief, he never truly thought about why he felt the need to end his own life. Did he want to join Ace? As much as he wanted to be with his brother, he didn't feel that he needed to die to join him. He knew the real reason was guilt and self-blame.
"My brother was murdered. He died protecting me. I guess I just felt like I didn't deserve to live anymore... that the value of my life was worthless compared to his." He pieced together the true feeling in his heart into a statement. He said the words not only aloud but also to himself for the first time. Silence filled the air between the two men.
"Someone died protecting me too." Law replied and Luffy's heart stopped.
"W-what?" Luffy's body shot forward as he turned himself to face Law, holding himself up using Law's arms, on his knees between the taller man's legs. What the hell? Had Law really gone through the crazy fucked up situation that Luffy had? Law's face was dark and his eyes clouded and Luffy knew he couldn't and wouldn't make up something like that.
"This is not about me right now, this is about you. I just wanted you to know that you weren't alone I guess... That you're not the only one who feels guilty." Luffy's mind raced. He couldn't comprehend the bombs of information Law was dropping on him today. He desired to know more but accepted Law's request to not provide more details. He had to respect Law's privacy just as Law had respected his own when he asked him for time to think.
A feeling of warmth flowed through his body. I'm not alone. This realization felt like the entire trajectory of his life had changed over the course of a single day. Most people experience death and loss of loved ones and they lingered with them forever, Luffy understood this. But never in his life had he met someone else whose life had been saved through the sacrifice of another. It wasn't everyday that you found the loved one of a murder victim, especially one who watched it all unfold.
When Luffy had first asked him about his past, Law changed the subject immediately. He just assumed he didn't want to talk about it. Luffy understood why now. Law undid the white-knuckled grip Luffy didn't realize he had on the man's wrists and turned Luffy back around to rest against his chest.
"Do you still feel that way?" Law continued his previous line of questioning, moving the conversation away from his sudden confession.
Did Luffy want to die still? He recalled the day at the beach where he first met Iva. Back then, he had thought about ending it all and letting the sea overtake him. Truthfully, the only thing that stopped him was his promise to himself to make Ace's sacrifice worth it and live a life that his brother would be proud of.
"I don't think I want to die anymore. I promised myself I would live a life that would make my brother proud. That would make it worth it to have died in my place. But I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have anything to be proud of. I'm just lost." he confessed, a singular tear running down his cheek. These deep internal struggles had never left his lips before. And although admitting them made them real, he felt safe in Law's warm embrace.
"I can't tell you how to find meaning in life. I can't even find it myself. I'm sorry." Law admitted, his head falling back draping over the lip of the tub.
Unexpectedly, Luffy laughed. He probably sounded like an insane person, laughing at their joint confessions that their lives were meaningless. But nonetheless, he allowed the laughter to take over his body.
"We're pretty fucked up, huh Law?" he breathed, letting his laughter cease.
"Yeah, we are, Luffy." Law stated simply. There was nothing else to be said as they sat against each other, two sides of the same shitty coin. Luffy smiled softly to himself. For the first day in months, he truly felt and he had Law to thank for that.
-
Unbeknownst to Luffy, Law smiled softly to himself. Never in a million years would have expected that the first person he ever told about Corazon would be the irrational, emotional disaster that was the man who wandered to his table because he couldn't see.
The idea of sharing his past with anyone had always been absolutely out of the question for Law. Even Bepo didn't know about Cora and he was Law's closest companion. Luffy was fucking him up. He let this boy unravel him in every possible way. Every fiber in Law's being was telling him to push Luffy away, to make him leave, to stop talking about his miserable fucking life.
And he would. He needed to. But not today. He felt some fucked up sense of responsibility for Luffy today. They had already gone past the point of no return. Tomorrow Law would return to his normal, stoic, lone existence. He promised himself that. He had to. His world and Luffy's world were not meant to exist on the same plane. Luffy had seen enough violence and Law's life would only bring more.
Then Luffy laughed and Law couldn't believe his ears. He laughed at himself. He laughed at Law. He called them fucked up. Law couldn't deny it. They were both fucked up. So Law just gave up and let himself enjoy the comfortable silence and warmth of another body in his arms.
Minutes passed before he spoke again. "Do you want to stay here tonight? The weather is pretty bad." He extended the offer to Luffy. Luffy didn't really had a choice unless he wanted to walk all the way across town in a thunderstorm. He hoped Luffy would say yes, regardless. He wasn't ready for it to end quite yet.
"Okay." Luffy simply agreed. Law felt relief stream over him and unraveled himself from Luffy, standing up. He grabbed a towel from the closet and dried himself off before wrapping it around his midsection. He grabbed another for Luffy and brought it to the tub.
"Come on, let's go to bed then, it's late." Law felt emotionally exhausted and he was sure Luffy felt the same, and probably physically exhausted too, honestly. Time had slipped by so fast and it was already late evening. Neither of them had eaten dinner but Law was too tired to think about food and Luffy didn't demand it.
Luffy stepped out of the bath and wobbled. Law made sure he was steady before he wrapped a large towel around the smaller body. He grabbed another as Luffy pulled Luffy close, pressing the towel to his head, rubbing his hands as he dried off Luffy's hair.
Luffy met his gaze with silent appreciation. Law pressed a hand to the small of his back and guided Luffy into his closet, scouring for some clothes for both of them, their previous ones lay abandoned somewhere in Law's downstairs.
"You seriously have a color coordinated closet?" Luffy scoffed, dumbfounded. Law's closet was color coordinated and organized by style, everything was hung neatly on matching hangers.
"Shut up and put these on." Law growled. He wasn't in the mood to be teased about his organizational habits as he thrust a shirt and shorts into Luffy's hands. He dropped his towel and slipped on a pair of sweatpants. Luffy eyed him nervously.
"You can't seriously be shy right now, you've been naked for hours now, I literally fucked you, Luffy." Law rolled his eyes and Luffy blushed before dropping his towel and pulling on his own clothes. Law's breath hitched as he was exposed to the full frontal view of Luffy.
He really was fucking perfect. Luffy was shorter than him, Law estimated he couldn't be taller than 5 '9 based on where he came up to but it was a perfect height. Luffy wasn't muscular but he wasn't extremely skinny either. He could see the bruises beginning to bloom on Luffy's neck and wrists and his cock twitched at the feeling of ownership over those marks. He didn't realize his grip was so harsh in the moment. Luffy would probably not be happy about those tomorrow.
Before Luffy could slip his shirt over his head, Law took a step toward Luffy and brushed his fingers against the x-shaped scar.
"I'm sorry the scar was so big. I did the best I could but..." Law stopped himself. He didn't need to say more. Luffy knew exactly how much damage he had done. He met Luffy's gaze "It doesn't matter. You're still beautiful."
Luffy stared at him, wide-eyed and frozen. Law knew he should shut up. But he was in his honesty hour and he wanted Luffy to know that he had nothing to be conscientious about. Law felt some sort of weird guilt of Luffy's scar, a permanent mark on the boy's body that wouldn't exist without him.
Law didn't want to hear Luffy's reply to his statement. He said what he said and it was done. Law grabbed him by the hand and pulled him toward the bed. He flipped off the lights and pulled Luffy into bed. Wordlessly, Luffy got under the covers snuggled into his chest. Law wrapped his arms around him and pressed his face into his shoulder.
"What did you think when you saw me that day?" Luffy breathed into his chest.
Law contemplated the question briefly. "When I first saw you, you were limp and lifeless and there was blood everywhere. And it broke my heart to know that someone could do that to themselves. And every minute of that surgery I thought that you might hate me for forcing you to live."
Law felt Luffy's breath hitch against him as he pressed closer to Law.
"Thank you. I'm glad you saved me and I was able to meet you." An indescribable feeling filled Law as Luffy's words echoed in his ears. There weren't many times that Law had felt a sense of accomplishment as a doctor. Patient's had thanked him many times throughout the years but this was different. Law's hands were covered in blood both figuratively and literally, but for the first time he felt like perhaps he had truly saved someone.
Overwhelmed with emotion and too far gone to consider his actions, Law pulled Luffy away from his chest and was met with a confused gaze. He gently placed a hand under his chin, and for the first time, Law initiated a kiss with Luffy that wasn't involved with sex.
Luffy's eyes widened and his body stiffened as Law pressed his lips against the dark-haired's own. It only took a second for him to relax and wrap his arms around Law's neck, pressing back into the kiss. The kiss was lazy as Law's tongue pressed against Luffy's lips, begging for entrance. Luffy complied and their breath entangled, Luffy's body melting into Law's own.
Law could have let his self indulgence lead elsewhere but he chose to leave things where they stood. He had already experienced more emotions in one day than he had possibly ever. Sorrow, guilt, compassion, anger, grief, lust, satisfaction, confusion, desire, and others he couldn't even find words for raced through his head. It was enough. It would have to be enough.
He pulled away and pressed a kiss to Luffy's forehead. It was time for this day to draw to a close. Law would deal with the consequences of his actions tomorrow. For tonight, he would hold Luffy close and allow himself to feel whole again.
"Good night, Luffy." he breathed into Luffy's hair.
"Good night, Law." Luffy replied.
Sleep took over Law quickly as he listened to Luffy's slow breaths and felt his heartbeat against his chest.
